There was one thing that many world leaders who tried to oppress and divide people all throughout history forget. One simple thing that is far more complex than their wildest dreams.
Lucifer was no exception to this. He wanted the power of the Almighty much like the great failures of history also sought Almighty like power. Many say the lust of man was a woman of fine beauty. But they would be incorrect for thinking so. The biggest lust and downfall of men and women who were yet to come on the sixth day of creation and multiply in mass numbers was power. Always seeking. Always taking. Never giving. A lonely life. Humans, angels and those angels who would soon become fallen all need love and companionship whether they want to admit it or not.
Azrael was not a being of evil nor of good. She was driven by the weapon of choice that destroys wars and saves lives and keeps families together. It has been a driving force behind every single civil movement, every funeral, every birthday, every holiday and within every time period of history since the beginning of eternity or in other words the one of the Almighty.
This force was love. Selfless, passionate, burning love. Family love. The love that binds friendships. The love that saves people on the streets. The love of two people smitten with each other.
To say Azrael would have walked through coals for her love was an understatement because she had. Azrael was a smart angel. One who did not put blind faith within those around her and instead looked for the truth in all things and people.
She wanted true relationships and the angels were no different. If she even felt a spark of longing for someone else she would get to the bottom of her feelings and find a reciprocation or lack thereof from the person in hindsight. But there was a different love. Incredible as she had only been alive for a few days and yet was capable of doing all that. And even more so to her delicate when she realized the feelings were more than mutual in the person she adores.
Many say Adam and Eve were the first lovers and you would be correct of the retrospect was human love. But what about angelic romance? Now that is a big complicated mess.
However, love is powerful and when you are in the how humans say it the honeymoon phase a person would walk 500 miles and walk 500 more just for the one they adore. A personal favorite of mine. Behind The Sound of Music of course.
But both have a similar message to them. Doing crazy things for a wonderful person who loves you and whom you love and Azrael was no different.
For you see it was not her hand that she would have lost to the new demonic weapon of pure evil Lucifer had crafted but the one she adores more than anything.
Sure the two may have been from different classes of angelic hierarchy but at the same time, I never cared for those much anyway as I had never cared for kings or queens but free will are words to live by when bringing beings with brains in their head into being.
Lucifer or Satan as he prefers to be called now could never get one thing right. You don't need to own the universe. Just see it. Power isn't everything and giving instead of taking would have stopped him from becoming so blinded by anger and hatred of all those around him so long ago. He is a manipulator and abuser and has been tricking and manipulating and using people for his own evil deeds almost since his creation.
But with this comes cockiness and a belief of one's own superiority and that they can never fail. And that is why falling in love with success and power is so dangerous. It blinds you to the flaws and shortcomings you can have. And Satan is the biggest victim to his own evils and the saddest part is he can't even see it.
For you see a certain archangel was to be burned in the fires that night but Azreal with all her powers in judgment saw right through the facade.
Yes she helped create hellfire and yes she did join Lucifer's cause at first but because she used her imaginative and creative brain she was able to break free from the iron grasps of groupthink. She offered her hand up knowing she could never get it back as she knew it would save the archangel whom she loved and who loved her back in the same way.
She came to the Almighty the morning of the fifth day of creation and repented. When the humans were to fall her punishment for planning to destroy the Almighty, her fellow angels and helping create a weapon that could destroy the entire universe was to walk the Earth taking the dead to their final resting place whether that be heaven or what was soon to be Hell.
The reason she did not fall however like the other demons are because she had turned back and done the right thing. The Almighty knew what the wayward angels were planning. Free choice meant waiting for the correct time to protect those around them.
She also would go on to create holy water and sacred ground which would help the demons fall from heaven and deflect and protect the angels against hellfire and humans against demonic influences. All because silly Lucifer had let someone whom he had threaten the love of their life be a part of the creation of his weapon.
In fact to move the process along God even suggested Azreal and her lover work together in order to create these sacred objects. After all, if her lover truly did love her as God knew she did then she would find it in her heart to forgive Azreal. And she did so without hesitation. The entire exchange was rather sweet.
What can the Almighty say? I am the original shipper after all.
