AN: Angst, drama, more angst and drama! Hope you'll enjoy it!
btw, sorry for not writing as much, things are going on in life that I can't really talk to you all about for now.
Trust me when I say I'll tell you all one day, just not now. And yeah, its bad enough for me to prevent me from being online and doing my thing.
Trust me as well when I say I haven't forgotten about any of my stories, Slavery, Homeless and Change.
I -WILL- finish them, but due to these things happening in life, I can't muster the will to write, for now.
I am however taking notes on ideas for Slavery here and there. Small things that are still going to happen between Korra and Asami.
ANYWAY! Enough depressing shit, enjoy da Korrasami angst and fluffs.
It had been a day like any other, warm and sunny. Korra had never been a fan of warm weather. She preferred the cold above anything else, but she had to accept that she couldn't change the weather. Not even the Avatar could do that.
She was on her way to her friend, Asami Sato. Owner of Future industries and inventor of the most amazing items available in this day and age.
Ever since Kuvira's defeat, her friend had been busy with rebuilding the city. Again. The two had hardly spent any time together after Varrick and Zhu Li's wedding. Their little vacation had to be put on hold. At least for a little while.
Korra felt her stomach flutter each time she thought of Asami. Was she in love? With another girl? Yes, she sure was. She had been aware of these feelings for a while now and it was slowly eating her away from the inside. Should she tell Asami? Risk losing one of the few friends she had?
She let out a deep sigh when she landed in front of Asami's office. Korra looked to the horizon where the sun was slowly setting before entering the building. Her folded glider in hand. No one was here anymore, it had been passed working hours after all. She chuckled lightly while walking up to the elevator. The two metal doors opened after a soft ping, letting the Avatar in. A short ride later, and she stood just outside of Asami's office. She decided to knock first.
There was no sound. She knocked again, a bit louder this time. Still nothing. Strange… She opened the door and walked in. There was a single light on Asami's desk that illuminated the room. Some documents and blueprints scattered on the desk's surface and the floor around it. "That's odd… why'd she ask me to come here if she's not here." She thought out loud and let out another deep sigh. I guess I'll find her in her workshop. And with that thought, she turned around to leave.
"K... " Whatever it was, it caught Korra's attention and forced her to turn back around. "Asami?" Her voice was unsure and a feeling of dread started in the pit of her stomach. Slowly, she walked over to the desk and around it. Her eyes widened, her blood froze and for a moment the world stopped spinning.
Asami's emerald eyes looked fearfully up at her. She was almost curled up completely, her arms clenching her chest. "K-Korra… Korra… help… i-it h-hurts…" She sobbed and the sound of her voice, or more like the tone of her voice was enough to snap Korra out of her state.
She was down on one knee and next her friend in less than a second. She didn't know what to do, her hands hovering just over Asami's body. Scared to hurt her. "Asami… Asami I don't… I don't know what to do." Desperation and fear was overwhelming the Southerner, not knowing what to do. Usually she could fight her way out of any situation, but this was something she knew nothing about. She was helpless and it scared her more than anything else.
"M-my… chest…" Asami managed to utter, her voice hardly above a whisper.
Korra nodded and gently pulled Asami's hand away from her chest, replacing it with one of her own. Her palm flat on Asami's pale and cold skin. She swallowed hard and closed her eyes, listening.
Something was wrong. She couldn't tell what it was exactly and she wished she had paid more attention during healing lessons right now. But right now, all she knew for sure was that Asami needed help. That was all she needed to know.
Korra needed to get her friend to a hospital right now. Every second was counting and while she picked up her friend from the cold floor, an idea formed in her head. "I'm sorry, Asami. I know you're not exactly a fan of flying, unless you're doing the flying yourself… but I have no choice." She used her bending to shatter one of the office windows. She ripped down one of the curtains and wrapped it around the two of them. She had no idea if this was going to work but she'd try anything.
Korra stood at the edge with Asami firmly tied against her own body. With a simple gesture she opened her glider. "You'll be okay Asami… I swear… close your eyes." And with that, she jumped.
It took her a few seconds but she managed to fly down to the city. Her heart pounding in her chest. Asami can't die… I won't allow it… I will not let her die! She wasn't sure what it was that activated it. Perhaps her emotional state, her fear that there was a real chance she'd lose the person who mattered most in her life. It didn't matter. The Avatar state made her journey smoother and within minutes, she arrived at Republic City General hospital.
She ran inside, screaming for help and in a complete state of panic. Asami had lost consciousness somewhere on the way here. Medical personnel came rushing to the pair and took over. Taking Asami away on a stretcher to where Korra could no longer see her. One of the nurses asked her to wait in the waiting area but all she wanted to do was go to the woman she was madly in love with.
"Are… are you sure I can't do anything?" She asked the nurse who just nodded faintly.
"I'm sorry, Avatar. Sometimes you have to let others do the work for you." She said with a gentle smile. "She's in capable hands, it's good you brought her here so quickly." She said, her tone soft and comforting as she guided Korra to the waiting area.
"I just… I didn't know what to do. She was in so much pain! I…-" She was gently pushed in a chair, the nurse holding one of her hands. "I just… I love her…" She suddenly said through a choked sob. Tears now sliding down her cheeks as she looked straight into the nurse's eyes who didn't seem surprised at all.
"I see how much you care about her." She said and gave Korra's hand a gentle squeeze in reassurance. "I have to go now, but I will make sure to keep you informed." She assured Korra who reluctantly let go of the woman's hand. She watched the woman disappear behind the same doors as Asami.
The wait began and hours passed by without any scrap of news whatsoever. It was driving her insane and just when she was about to go look for answers herself, the nurse came out. Dressed in bloody scrubs, she looked around the area and smiled gently when she locked eyes with the Avatar.
Korra quickly rushed over to the nurse. "Is… is she?"
The woman smiled and put her hands on Korra's shoulders. "She made it through surgery, yes. She's brought to her room where she can wake up and recover. We are not sure when exactly she will wake up but you can keep her company until she does."
Korra just stared at the woman for a good few seconds before she embraced her in a near bone rushing hug. "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Asami was going to be alright. She was going to live.
"Oof!" The nurse let out a chuckle and was quickly released once Korra realized what she was doing. "I'm sorry I couldn't send someone sooner, your friend kept us quite busy and we needed all the hands that we could get."
"That's fine, I'm just…" She took a deep breath before releasing it slowly. "I'm just happy she's okay now…" The woman nodded understandingly.
"Well, let's go. I'll take you to her room." She said and Korra followed without thought. After a short walk, they stopped and stood in front of Asami's room.
The woman turned to face Korra. "Don't be alarmed by what you're about to see. We had to operate on her and she's attached to some machines that allows us to keep an eye on her heart rate." Korra wasn't sure what the nurse meant and her confusion must have been clear on her face. A gentle smile spread on the nurse's face as she shook her head. "Pay no attention to whatever you might see in there. It's all for her own good. Alright?" To this, Korra nodded and the nurse opened the door to let her in. Closing it softly once again afterwards.
Korra saw her friend laying in bed. Her body attached to all kinds of machines, just like the nurse said. A machine showing all kinds of numbers stood closest to Asami and every so often it beeped. She took a deep breath before taking the single chair in the room and placing it next to the bed. Once she sat down, she looked at Asami's hand that laid right next her body on the mattress. She swallowed hard, pondering if she should hold it. Screw it… And with the utter most gentleness she could muster, she took Asami's hand in her own.
Cold hand… heh… nothing new there… she chuckled to herself. Her eyes sliding over Asami's pale face. There was a thin oxygen tube just below her nose. It reminded Korra of a straw of some sort. A very long, thing and see through looking straw. She now noticed the dark rings under Asami's eyes and how thin she looked. I don't think she got much sleep or much to eat ever since we defeated Kuvira… Her free hand moved to Asami's face and cupped her cheek. Her thumb tenderly brushing over pale skin. Even her face is cold...
Her eyes absentmindedly moved to Asami's pink lips and so did her thumb. Her heart skipped a beat while her mind raced. Soft… no! What am I doing!? She pulled her hand back. She's hurt for crying out loud! How can I even think…! She shook her head. Ugh, this is not the time nor the place to have such thoughts. When she wakes up, she's going to need my help. She nodded at her own inner dialogue. Her hand still holding onto Asami's. "You were there for me when I needed you… it's time I returned your kindness…" Her words were hardly above a whisper as if she was scared they might hurt Asami somehow.
She had no idea how long she stayed there. Watching Asami sleep. Listening to the strange machine and it's beeps. She didn't care really how long she was there or what time it was. In the end, she put her head on the mattress. I'll just close my eyes for a few seconds… yeah… She yawned and closed her eyes as her body relaxed. Her hand still holding onto her friend's.
She wasn't sure what woke her back up. Perhaps the chatter of people in the room or the gentle buzzing of a busy hospital. Or, perhaps it was the gentle hand that stroke and played with her hair. She let out a soft groan. Oh Spirits… my neck is killing me… wait… I hear voices… Korra slowly sat up and the hand that had touched her moved back to her own that laid on the bed. She couldn't keep her eyes off of the hand that now covered her own. Slowly, her eyes moved up the pale arm and eventually locked with tired looking green ones.
Tears once again welled up in her eyes as relief washed over her. Her mouth moved but no sound came out. She looked more like a fish on shore than anything else. Asami just smiled weakly at her and her hand weakly cupped Korra's face. This gentle gesture snapped the Avatar out of her fish like state and everything reconnected back in her head. Giving back her ability to speak.
"Asami…" She whispered. "You… you're… I'm… and then…" She was silenced by a single pale finger on her lips.
"I… am… okay." She whispered and speaking caused her energy which she didn't have to spare. Her eyes turned to something next or behind Korra and the Avatar turned around to see a man standing there with a white doctor's coat on.
Immediately she got up from her seat. "Oh! Hello." She tried to remove her tears as quickly as possible. "S-sorry, I uh…" She cleared her throat, unable to come up with any excuse.
"It's quite alright, Avatar Korra. Your friend here, Miss Sato, woke up not long ago. I was informing her about her status. But, I can see that you two could use some time alone." He put her chart in a special holder which was attached to the bed. "I'll come back later." He said and left the room, leaving the two women alone.
Korra then turned back around to face Asami who looked nothing but happy to see her friend again. She opened her arms as best she could and it was all Korra needed. Korra leaned down, mindful of Asami's state and hugged her as best she could. "I was so afraid…" She swallowed hard and tightened her embrace slightly. Her face buried in the crook of Asami's pale neck. She let out a trembling sigh.
"Me too…" Asami whispered and held onto her best friend as best she could. Her cheek brushed against Korra's. "So… warm…" Reluctantly, she let go when Korra pulled back, missing the Avatar's warmth.
"What happened? Did the doctor tell you?" Korra asked while sitting down on the edge of the bed. Taking one of Asami's hands in her own, not wanting to let go or break the contact. The pale beauty nodded at the question.
"Yes…" She took a deep breath before releasing it again. "He explained… a very long… and, truthfully… boring… explanation." She smiled when she saw the smile on Korra's face and felt her heart flutter in her chest. "Something I might… tell you later…" the Avatar nodded in understanding.
"I understand. You just rest, I'll take care of everything you need. Whatever that might be."
"Thank you, Korra…" She was indeed tired but there was something she needed to say first. "But I… I can't rest yet… there… there is something I… I need to… tell you…" She almost sounded out of breath, like every word was hurting her.
"Asami… please. Don't push yourself. You're hurting. Whatever it is, you can tell me later." The pale beauty shook her head weakly. "Can… you show me instead?" Korra suggested.
This caused Asami's cheeks to redden slightly but she did stop her attempts to try and speak. She pondered Korra's question and her eyes went from Korra's to tan lips for a short second, before they settled back on brilliant sapphires. With a simple nod, she agreed and gestured Korra to come closer.
Korra didn't dream of refusing whatever it was that Asami so desperately wanted her to know or see. So she leaned in, turning her head just slightly in case Asami wanted to whisper it in her ear just in case. She was so close that she could feel her friend's hot breath on her ear. It wasn't what Asami had in mind and with her free hand, she turned Korra's face slightly. Enough for the two of them to look at each other. Her pale hand slowly moved behind Korra's back, taking a weak hold onto her hair.
Korra's heart was hammering in her chest, they were not even half an inch apart and it would be the easiest thing in the world to lean in. To feel those pink lips on her own. She forced the thought from her head and focussed on Asami's eyes instead. She saw tears well in them but before she could ask what was wrong, the gap between the two of them was closed with the little strength Asami still possessed.
At first, Korra's brain needed to reboot. The faint feeling of a hand at the back of her head slowly pulled her back from her stoic state. The sensation of soft lips slowly moving against her own caused her to breathe in deeply through her nose. Her eyes slowly closing, savoring this blissful feeling.
She's kissing me… Spirits she's kissing me! What should I do!
Kiss her back…?
I'm already kissing her back!
Than don't do anything and enjoy…?
… I can do that…
Korra slowly relaxed and answered the kiss by pressing her own lips firmer against Asami's. Savoring the feeling and taste of this new experience.
Neither of them knew how long they kissed but Korra slowly pulled back. Not much but enough to give Asami some space. Her pale cheeks still flushed in a darker shade of pink. Tears slowly slid down said cheeks and Korra used her free hand to remove them.
"I… love you… Korra…" Asami whispered with a trembling voice. She grabbed Korra's hand and nuzzled against it for comfort.
Korra gently pulled her hands back and a shadow of fear appeared in Asami's emerald eyes, scared that even now, Korra would turn her back on her. The opposite was true. Korra cupped her pale cheeks and leaned forward, resting her forehead against her own. Pale hands covered tan ones and Asami let out a sob of relief.
"I love you too, Asami. I have, for a long, long time." She whispered, looking straight into a pair of worried eyes. Asami's fear was replaced by happiness and the pale beauty smiled up at the Avatar. Her hands moved from Korra's to her cheeks, pulling her closer and kissing her tenderly.
Eventually, Korra leaned back and winked at the other woman. Asami couldn't stop smiling and let out another happy sigh. "I wanted… to tell you… when I asked you to… come over." She let her eyes slide around the room. "Then, this happened."
"Heh… fate is a funny thing…" She said and brought both of Asami's hands to her mouth, kissing the back tenderly before placing them back.
"It sure is, yes…" Asami's blush deepened and the young woman couldn't stop smiling. "The… doctor said I have to stay here… for a while…" She bit her lower lip. "Will you… I mean… I…"
"I'll stay here, right here. By your side." A faint blush appeared on Korra's cheeks. "The only place I want to be and the place where I belong."
Asami looked up at her girlfriend, her hands still being held by Korra's and she squeezed them gently. "Sounds perfect…"

I don't always reply but I read each and every one of them! They made me smile and are one of the few reasons I'm still smiling.
