Here's the longer chapter I promised. Enjoy!
Two years after the Brightest Night…
Moonwave was what a lot of the SeaWings called, an "accident." She knee that she wasn't, though. Queen Cloudburst had planned it with her mother and a NightWing Prince, so that the SeaWings would have an animus. It had worked, plus they're animus could read minds and foretell the future. But that didn't seem to matter to the rest of the Tribe. But, it made sense. Moonwave could never fully blend into a crowd, with her too-dark scales and strange silver teardrops behind each eye. But what made it worse for her was that she could see inside the other SeaWings' minds.
According to her mother, this was because she was half NightWing. Moonwave absolutely hated being called "half NightWing." Instead, she called herself a StarWing. It seemed to fit her pretty well. She had the silver starscales of a NightWing, as well as the bioluminescent scales that SeaWings used to communicate. Yes. StarWing was perfect.
No one seemed to care that she was uncomfortable with being referred to as half NightWing, though. Just like with everything else she said or did, even the dragon who had fallen in love with her, Prince Finsplash.
Just as Moonwave thought this, the arrogant young Prince appeared from one of the hallways leading from the Throne Room, followed by his usual tidal wave of girl dragonets. It seemed that almost every girl in the entire Kingdom of the Sea had a "secret" crush on him, even though he had stated, over a million times, that he only had his sights set on one dragon. And the so-called "lucky" dragon was Moonwave.
Moonwave almost gagged, even at the sight of him. She DEFINITELY didn't like him back. Gross! To her, he was just another annoying little squid-brain, that followed her wherever she went.
Finsplash swam over to her, looking confident, like he had already won her over. Moonwave just kept heading toward the library. But she stopped dead in her tracks when he reached out a wing and wrapped it around her in a hug. As she turned a fierce glare on him, she saw that he had the biggest, cockiest grin she had ever seen planted firmly in his snout. She hated it so much that she wanted to claw it right off.
Go away! She flashed in Aquatic. Finsplash didn't listen and still kept his wing firmly around her back. Now this didn't go down so well. After a long pause, Moonwave freed her tail from his grasp and thwacked him as hard as she could, right on his nose. He let go, making sure that his face was still perfect, then chased after her as fast as he could, which wasn't very fast, compared to Moonwave. As she made a break for it, she saw that at least two thirds of the tidal wave of dragonets had either very offended, or very mad looks on their faces. It didn't matter. No one at school ever talked to her anyway. Once she was sure that she had lost Finsplash, she worked her way back to her room.
It'd probably take Finsplash a good three hours to find it, even if he could swim as fast as Moonwave. Her room was tucked away underneath the Deep Palace, directly under the Throne Room. The entrance to the tunnels was blocked by a massive boulder that could only be lifted with a tiny lever, hidden away in a patch off seaweed. Behind it, there were three tunnels, each if which looked exactly the same, so that even if Finsplash could find a way through the boulder, there was still a very big chance that he'd take a wrong turn and completely miss her room.
After she got past the boulder, she took the left tunnel, followed by a right, a left, another left, straight, right, and left again, where she found the beautifully decorated door of her bedroom. It wasn't a very big room, even though Moonwave was entitled to claim any bedroom in the Palace as her own. It was only just big enough for her bed, a mirror, and a desk. Moonwave was a scrollworm, and loved to write her own fantasies about cats growing wings, and suddenly having magical powers, like her own animus magic. She adored cats. She drew them, carved them, painted them, wrote about them, and much, much more. All the other dragons she had met had called her crazy, but she didn't care. Cats were her everything. She even had her own little pet panther, named Sunbeam. That was one of the perks of being the Tribe animus. Any pet you want, whenever you want. It was amazing.
I told you the next chapter would be longer! By the way, Finsplash is the SeaWing I mentioned earlier, so I really hope that whoever came up with him liked him. All the very best!!
