It had been a few weeks after Kuvira's attack. Republic City being rebuild and the arrangements for Varricks wedding with Zhu Li, his former assistant.

Asami was working overtime at her office from home, something that wasn't unusual. Especially after her father's funeral, Asami buried herself in work to keep her mind from wandering. She didn't sleep much either, if she did, all she had was nightmares about her father's death.

Today wasn't much different, she leaned on one hand, while adjusting the blueprints before her with the other. Slowly but surely, her eyes drifted shut and the young woman fell asleep right at her desk.

She was right back where it all happened. The moment that she became an orphan when Kuvira's machine crushed the suit her father was in. There was nothing she could've done. All she could do was watch, as the crushed suit fell down onto the ground while she reached out to it from a distance. She remembered his last words towards her, right before she had been ejected from the machine.

Goodbye, Asami.. I love you.

She woke up gasping for air, throwing herself backwards in her seat and tumbling onto the floor of her office. She let out a groan, holding her head with one hand while pushing herself off of the floor. "Spirits.." She sighed, letting herself slide back down on the floor while the tears came.

Goodbye, Asami. I love you.

Those were the last words her father had said to her and now, now she was all alone.

"Asami..?" A voice called out softly, followed by footsteps. The young CEO was still dazed from her dream, unable to give a response or even recognize the voice. Although she heard it many times before.

Before she managed to wipe her tears, gentle hands pulled her back on her feet. Once she was back up, one of those hands cupped her cheek. Worried eyes, blue as the sky on a bright summer morning, looked at her. "Korra..?" She finally managed to push a single word passed her lips, the shock from the dream finally fading.

Korra smiled faintly at her friend and nodded. "Hey, yeah, it's me."

Her blurred vision became clearer when the Avatar wiped away some of the tears. "I.. how did.." Asami paused for a moment, closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Words, Asami, use them. When she opened her eyes again, Korra still looked at her with concern. "I was working late." She swallowed hard but didn't turn away her gaze from the Southerner. "I guess I fell asleep."

Korra nodded slowly and looked at Asami's desk for a moment. She saw the blueprints and the empty glass with a bottle of whiskey right next to it. She looked back at Asami, now both her hands cupped the CEO's face. "How long have you had these nightmares?" She asked, the tone of her voice still low, as if she was scared something might break if she spoke to loudly.

Asami's heart started pounding when Korra cupped her face, it only increased when her friend asked her the question and she tried to break eye contact. "I… I don't know what you..-"

"Don't lie to me, Asami." Korra started, her tone stricter now. "I recognize this behaviour, as I should. I suffered from the exact same symptoms after I nearly died.." Her voice became softer again, the more she spoke. "I was to stubborn then, to accept help, so I suffered alone." Her thumbs gently stroke Asami's pale cheeks. "I won't let you go through this, all alone.."

The young CEO looked back at her friend, looked right into those ocean blue orbs and saw nothing but genuine concern. She felt the tears burn in her own eyes and when she closed them, they spilled down her face. She let her forehead rest against Korra's as she finally let it out, all of it. They ended sitting on the floor, Asami held by Korra while she hid her face in the crook of Korra's neck. A tan hand at the back of her head, stroking her black hair affectionately.

Eventually, after Asami's heartbreaking sobs slowly died down in an occasional sniffle, she pulled back to look at her friend. Her voice trembled slightly as she spoke, explaining the way she felt and her nightmares. Korra listened and held both of Asami's hands, her thumbs caressing the soft skin.

"I'm.. all alone now." Asami whispered and let out a deep sigh.

"That's not true." Korra quickly said. "You have Mako, Bolin, Opal." She paused for a moment and a faint smile played on her lips. "And, you have me. I'm your… friend. I'll always be there for you, for whatever you need. Whenever you need it. I…" she paused for a moment and swallowed hard. "I care about you, Asami."

Asami smiled sadly and looked at their joined hands. "I care about you too…" Slowly, she looked up at the Avatar, their eyes locked. "When that ray of energy hit both you and Kuvira… I thought I had lost you too. I don't think.. I wouldn't have been able to handle losing both you and my father in one day. I felt so.." She sighed in frustration. "Spirits, I can't even give it a name. How I'd feel if I had lost you." She couldn't look up at her friend so she looked at their hands instead which were now shaking along with the rest of her body. "When my father died… I felt like a piece was ripped away from me. If… you had died… I think I would have died as well." It was all but a complete confession but Korra understood.

She let go of one of Asami's hands and cupped the pale woman's face instead. Gently forcing her to look back up, to look back at her instead of their hands. Her gaze switched between Asami's eyes and her lips and without truly thinking about it, she closed the gap between them. Pressing her own lips against Asami's in a slow and tender kiss.

The feeling that followed was overwhelming for them both. The feeling of belonging somewhere, the feeling of finding the person you were meant to be with. To find your soulmate. Asami returned the kiss and both women closed their eyes as it continued. Pale hands now cupped Korra's face while Korra's hands held firmly onto Asami's body. Holding onto her like a lifeline, afraid to drift away.

The kiss was eventually broken and they were both out of breath. Cheeks reddened by this new feeling, this new experience. It was new to them both, although the feelings had been there for a while, it was a different matter to be able to give into them.

Asami looked at her friend, smiling. A hand still rested on a tan cheek while the other rested on Korra's neck. She could feel her increased heartbeat. "I love you, Asami." Those words, Spirits those words, they made her heart skip a beat or two. She couldn't answer them right away, so instead she kissed Korra again, more passionate this time. The Southerner returned it, step by step, with equal passion.

After some seconds, it was Asami who broke the kiss and rested her forehead against Korra's with closed eyes. "I love you too, Korra." Her voice cracked and more tears followed but from happiness this time.

They continued for a few minutes more before once again, Asami broke the kiss and looked lovingly into Korra's eyes. "Can… will you stay? I need you.." She whispered the last few words, as if she was ashamed to give in to something she had been fighting for a long time.

Korra nodded. "Of course. I need you too." She admitted, her heart was slowly healing now too.

Both women got up and held each other's hand as they walked through the hallway, towards Asami's bedroom. Once there, they gave in to their feelings although both fearful of the unknown. They shared their fears and thoughts with one another as they went on this new journey of discovery. In the end, after their love making, they slept in eachothers arms. Soundly, for the first in a long time.

When Korra woke up, the sun was already up for several hours. She looked at the silhouette before her and smiled. Asami was still asleep, looking more peaceful than she had seen her in a long time. The pale beauty was resting on one of Korra's arms while tenderly stroke Asami's face with her free hand. The gesture caused Asami to stir in her sleep, slowly but surely, she woke up. Her sleepy gaze found Korra's, realization struck her of what had happened last night and she gently pushed herself up in a sitting position. Using her blanket to cover her chest. Korra did the same, leaning with her back against the headboard. "Morning." She said, her voice a bit hoarse. She cleared her throat before speaking again. "How you feeling?"

Asami smiled shyly. "Morning to you too, and I'm feeling pleasantly sore." She said with a dry chuckle that Korra answered with one of her own.

"Heh.. yeah, same here." She paused for a moment while she watched her friend. "Do you, have any regrets?" She asked carefully, bracing herself for the the worst.

Asami shook her head, much to Korra's relief. "No, absolutely not. No regrets. I just, it's kinda new.. All this." She admitted.

Korra nodded. "My thoughts exactly." Her eyes shot open wide. "Oh shit.. I didn't hurt you, did I?!"

"What? No! No, Korra, you didn't hurt me." She said and moved closer to the Southerner to prove her point. "Everything you did, I.. liked it. Although seeing you slip into the Avatar state was a surprise."

Korra frowned, trying to remember. "I did..? When?"

Asami bit her lower lip. "Uhm.. like, at the end.. When you.. You know." There was a dark crimson showing on her cheeks, one that probably matched Korra's own.

"Oh, holy shit.. I never.. I mean, I've never done this. With anyone, I didn't know that could happen." She admitted, holding onto Asami's hand.

"Well, I'm glad I was your first.." She whispered. "You were mine too."

This surprised Korra. "Really? You and Mako never…" She paused, letting her own words sink in. "Eh.. that's not my business, sorry."

Asami chuckled and brought Korra's hand to her lips, kissing the back of it before putting it back down. "No, never. He was nice, but I never felt that connection with him that I have with you." She explained and leaned in to kiss Korra's lips affectionately, before pulling back.

Korra smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of her head. "Heh.. wow… so, what now?"

"Now? Well… it's Sunday… how about we enjoy the day like any other couple? We can stay in bed, enjoy breakfast, go for a walk or a ride." She paused for a moment and moved to straddle the Avatar's hips. Her bare chest and everything else, now in full view for Korra to see. Asami's hands resting on Korra's shoulders. "Or.."

Korra swallowed hard and felt her face heat up again when she saw Asami like this in broad daylight. The words spoken hardly registered in Korra's brain. Up until she heard the 'or' part. She tore her eyes reluctantly away from Asami's beautiful body and looked her in the eyes instead. "Or?"

Asami smiled and leaned in and kissed Korra just below her ear before she whispered. "Or, we can see if we can get you to control your Avatar state… while we do… another fun activity."

She felt Asami's hot breath on her ear and by Raava, it ignited a fire inside her. Korra's hands moved to Asami's hips and she pulled the pale beauty closer. Feeling Asami's breasts against her own made her breath hitch for a moment. It took her a few seconds to regain her composure and nipped Asami's earlobe teasingly which earned her a soft, whimpering moan. Her fingertips digging into Asami's slim hips to keep her as close as humanly possible. "I go for option two…" She whispered right back.

Asami leaned back enough to look at the other woman, her hands now resting on Korra's jaw as she closed the gap between them. "Sounds perfect.." she whispered, before their lips locked in a passionate kiss.
