That afternoon, Giggles decided to go to Big Momma's to meet up with her "date" to see how on earth the two of them had been paired together as a couple for Struts and Lugnut's date. The two had nothing in common that they knew of; they had never really spent any amount of time together without Mick or Butchy being around as well. She had no idea why Lugnut decided to invite them along.
Lugnut was a good friend of hers. Even though she wasn't particularly close with the other bikers since she wasn't spending much time with anyone other than maybe a handful of the surfers, Lugnut always took the time to stop by and check in or her, maybe bringing her a soda or a sandwich just to make sure she had something for lunch. He had been that way since he found out that she was a loner like him.
She had never been truly social, despite what people assumed. She had a small group of friends growing up, consisting of Butchy, Lela, Tanner, Seacat and Kiki, so her group had slowly started to expand once Butchy's and Tanner's friend groups grew and that made her seem more popular than she actually was. Now that she and Lela were about to graduate high school, she was actually hanging around with the more popular people like Lela, Caitlynn and their boyfriends.
People expected her to be in a relationship with someone (most likely a biker) at this point, but she wasn't and honestly had no plans for it either.
Upon entering the restaurant, Giggles noticed that the room was decorated with the wedding reception decorations that Mick had decided on a few months prior. Thankfully, they had decided on a fairly simple theme, blue for Butchy's favorite color and red for Mick's. The ceiling was decorated with colorful streamers and a small group of people were gathered on the floor, decorating what looked like a banner that said "WELCOME HOME" in big, bubbly letters. The group had, very obviously written the words too large in order for them to fit all the words they had wanted to write as Butchy's name was in smaller handwriting underneath the bubbly letters.
Giggles chuckled slightly before scanning the room. Her eyes landed a certain brown-haired biker boy with a blue and red paisley bandana tied around his wrist. Miles had gotten the bandana from Mick and it had slowly become integrated into his everyday clothes. He hardly ever took it off nowadays, so the accessory made it that much easier to spot him in a crowd. The young adult was sitting across from Kiki, probably flirting up a storm (not that Kiki minded all that much as Giggles knew she reciprocated the feeling).
Giggles hurried across the room and flung herself into the seat next to Kiki. Startled, the pair looked to Giggles with confusion evident on their faces, waiting for the blonde to begin a conversation. Giggles took a breath before relaxing into her chair with a huff.
"We need to talk," she explained shortly, her eyes steadily trained on Miles.
Kiki glanced between the two, realizing she probably wasn't needed for the conversation. Clearing her throat, Kiki rose from her seat and walked around to Miles. "Find me later and we'll keep going, alright?"
"'Course, doll," Miles agreed, watching the brunette saunter off to join the group that was decorating the banner still. Finally, he turned his attention to the blonde across from him and sighed. "Lemme guess, yer here 'cause o' that date thing with Lugnut?"
Slightly impressed, Giggles began, "How…?"
Miles crossed his arms and leaned on the tabletop with a smirk. "Kid, I ain't stupid. I happen to be one o' Lugnut's closest pals an' he couldn't ask Butch to do it, so he asked me. I ain't in it fer the date wit' yous. Yer not really my type, no offense."
Giggles huffed a sigh of relief, relaxing in her chair and allowing her mind to settle. "None taken. In return, no offense, but you're not my type either."
"I know," Miles acknowledged, "yer more into guys like Butchy, right?"
Giggles snapped her gaze back to Miles, watching the slightly smug biker with careful eyes. "What are you talking about?" Giggles snapped immediately.
Miles scoffed, leaning against the back of his chair as he gave Giggles a disbelieving look. "Like I already said, I ain't stupid. Honestly, it's a wonder you've made any o' these fish bite that line. Yer not exactly a silver screen actress, kid; yer face gives ya away almost every time."
Giggles felt her cheeks turn slightly pink, yet guarded her gaze. "I-I'm not sure what you're-"
"Cut the crap, Gianna," Miles interrupted quietly, yet firmly, leaning back over the table once again. "I've known you since Butch and I were thirteen; you had a crush on him then and, let's face the facts, G, you still do. You may be able to fool all of them," Miles subtly jerked his thumb in the direction of the clustered group before continuing, "but not me."
Giggles jaw felt like it was ready to sink into the sand underneath the building. Was she really that obvious? She watched Miles as he reclined once again, trying to pass the conversation off as simple once more. For her dignity's sake, Giggles resigned to her fate. "Fine, so what if I liked him before? He and Mick are getting married soon and I'm happy for them."
Miles gave the blonde another incredulous look before shaking his head. "Agree to disagree, kid. I've seen the longing looks you give and I know it's gotta be painful for you to know what there could've been between the two of you."
"Regardless," Giggles stated, "I'm happy for them. Mick is like the sister I never had and she deserves the best. But, I'm not here to talk about all of this with you; I only came to see why we were paired for the double date."
"Lugnut thought I'd be the best for the guy and Struts chose you for some reason or another." With that being said, Miles rose from his seat, taking just a couple steps toward Giggles until he was right next to her. "Either way, I'd sort through whatever it is yer feeling before the wedding comes 'round. You'll wanna be able to look them both in the eye and say the truth when you tell them that yer happy for them. If yer not, well, let's just say that the truth will come out eventually, whether you like it or not."
Done with the conversation, Miles walked off, finding Kiki once more and guiding her out of the restaurant and, most likely offering her a ride somewhere. Pondering over everything that had just been thrust upon her by the usually laid back biker, Giggles remained in her seat for a long while in order for her mind to absorb the information. Once she felt that she was ready to continue with her day, Giggles slowly stood and bought a soda from Big Momma before joining the group that was now writing and signing small messages onto the banner for Butchy's welcome home party.
After deciding that they should go home and get everything settled back in, Butchy and Mick ended their walk and headed just down the beach until the red building was in sight. Mick ran ahead of Butchy to open the door for him as he hobbled his way into the house. Butchy sighed deeply at the familiar sight of his living room, happy to finally get out of the white-walled hospital. He made his way over to the couch, relaxing down into the soft cushions and letting his muscles relax.
Mick watched with a smile as she made her way into their shared bedroom to put things away. She stored the papers Antonio had given her for both hers and Butchy's prescriptions in the bedside table as they had already stopped by the pharmacy and only needed the papers for the dosage and name of the medicines just in case they needed to refill them. The bag of Butchy's personal items – such as his wallet, keys, and a few pictures that he had kept in his pocket at the time of the crash - had been tossed onto the bed to be gone through later on. They weren't in any hurry to do anything at the moment.
She left the bedroom after a moment of contemplation. Upon her return to the room, she found Butchy resting on the couch with his arms sprawled to his sides and his head lulled against the back. He looked almost asleep and, if it weren't for his fingers tapping out the tune of some song or another, Mick would've believed he actually was asleep.
Not wanting to disturb his relaxation, Mick moved to the back of the couch and gently placed her fingers on her fiance's forehead before dragging them across his hairline and tracing her nails softly through his hair until the back of the couch got in the way. Her fingers shifted so she could use the pads of her fingers to massage the pressure points on his scalp. Butchy let out a soft sigh and seemed to relax even further into the couch as Mick smiled and moved her fingers back to his forehead. She traced small, light circles across his forehead, using her middle and ring fingers to rub over Butchy's high cheekbones along the way. Once her fingers reached his neck, Mick stopped and brought her fingers back the way they had come, resting her fingertips against her fiance's hairline once again.
Butchy's eyes peeled open slowly admiring the gentle smirk on his future wife's, now upside-down, face. "Hey, gorgeous."
"Hey to you too, mister." Mick smiled down at him before leaning down and pressing a kiss to his forehead. "Would you like something for lunch? I'm pretty sure we still have some of the sweet and sour kielbasa that Lela and I made for when your boys came over the other day."
Butchy thought for a moment before agreeing to having some food that wasn't from the hospital. "Would you mind getting it for me, babe? My arms are a little sore from those damned crutches."
Mick poked Butchy's forehead before moving away and over toward the kitchen. "Those crutches are keeping you from hurting yourself even more, Biagio, you know that."
"I know, but they're so clunky and awkward and I can't even ride my bike because of them," Butchy argued weakly, not attempting an argument, but just stating his point of view.
Mick shook her head as she reached into the fridge and pulled out the leftovers Butchy had wanted. She placed them in the microwave and waited for them to be finished before continuing the conversation, "I know it's frustrating, but you have to let it heal on its own. If that healing thing that Uncle Tony was telling us about is an actual thing, you should be better in no time at all."
"I guess so," Butchy agreed, shifting his arm so Mick could sit next to him. "It worked on the stitches, why not this too?"
"Exactly," Mick agreed happily as she bent one leg on the couch and let the other remain on the floor. She handed Butchy the food and let him go about his meal as she relaxed against the armrest of the couch. "I wonder if what happened on the beach was something to do with our heartbeats or the healing progress."
Butchy hummed with a nod. "I was thinking about that as well. I don't think it was to do with me healing since it would probably only bother me if it had been the healing. My guess is that it's something to do with our hearts since we both felt it and it was in that general area as well."
Mick nodded before sitting back up and moving to sit criss-cross. "Babe, I want you to be totally honest with me right now, okay? Are you worried about this whole thing?"
Butchy swallowed some of his food before meeting Mick's gaze. "The whole heartbeat matching thing?" At Mick's nod, Butchy shrugged. "I'm not worried. I love you with my whole heart and, at this point, I can only hope you love me just as much."
"You know I do!" Mick claimed immediately, shocked at the small accusation.
"I know, Mickie, I was teasing you." Butchy laced his fingers through Mick's hair briefly before continuing. "The only reason I'm not scared is because having our heartbeats match is just another way of showing the world that our love is a force to be reckoned with."
Mick smiled thoughtfully before leaning onto Butchy's shoulder. "I hadn't thought of it like that. I have to say, though, I'm still nervous about the whole situation."
Butchy took hold of Mick's hand and squeezed it, pressing a kiss to her head in the process. "How come?"
Mick let her eyes close, trying to keep calm as she thought over how to explain her worries. "Well, what if something happens and I can't go home ever again? I mean, I don't want to lose my family, but I certainly don't want to have to stay away from you either. I'm just scared."
"Mickie, if it bothers you that much, we'll go back and forth between our worlds until we feel like they might be close enough. We could even get it checked by Uncle Tony if it makes you feel any better. Either that, or we can stay in your world until they match and, if nothing changes, we'll be fine."
Mick shook her head and straightened again. "That's too much strain on you, Biagio and you know it. Being away from your home and your life for too long would be too much for me to ask of you. It's just me overthinking everything and I know it is, but I can't stop thinking about it."
"How about we go visit your parents for a while instead?" Butchy asked simply. "We haven't stayed over there in a long time and it's about time we paid them a visit. Maybe we could stay at their place for a couple of days just to relax and then we can come back and get focused on the wedding again."
Mick smiled, leaning over and pressing a kiss to Butchy's cheek before letting him finish his food. "I would love that. However, we do have something to do before we go." Mick rose from the couch and took a couple steps back.
After setting the empty food container down on the coffee table, Butchy turned to Mick with an eyebrow raised in confusion. "We do? But we just got home, do we really have to go right now?"
Mick glanced at the clock before shaking her head and shrugging. "No, but if we're going to have some fun, we better leave before two."
"What kind of fun are we having, exactly?" Butchy offered, shifting toward the end of the couch and wiggling his eyebrows in a playfully flirtatious manner.
In retaliation, Mick grabbed one of the throw pillows and started hitting her fiancé in the face with it, smacking his side once he turned away from her attack. "Not that kind of fun, you gutter-brain!"
Butchy chuckled, taking the pillow in his fist and using it to pull Mick closer to him. Her nose was just barely brushing his, giving a slightly electric feel to the conversation. "And why not?"
Her face was probably the same shade as a fire hydrant at this point, not that either one minded. "Well, we, uh… and you-"
Eloquence at its' finest.
"Mmnuh" Mick groaned, dropping her head down to Butchy's shoulder and listening to him laugh. Butchy rubbed Mick's back for a moment before resting his palm at her hip. "I swear, if you don't stop this right now, I'm having your Uncle Tony put you in a straitjacket and lock you in a room for the rest of your life."
With a scoff, Butchy watched Mick pull away and pick up his crutches. "Like you could stay away for that long."
"I believe I could manage with simple visitation," Mick teased, helping her fiancé stand and adjust his arms over the crutches.
"Somehow, I doubt that very much."
Mick rolled her eyes as she turned to walk toward the front of the house. "Don't test me and find out."
While walking alongside his fiancée, Butchy found himself wanting to find out what Mick would do if he decided to keep messing with her. With a moment of thought back to movies they had watched in the past at her house back in California, Butchy smirked. Mick had always gotten slightly riled about scenes from movies that all had the type of thing going on. With that in mind, his train of thought arrived at the only station that seemed likely to get a reaction out of Mick.
Without a beat, Butchy waited for Mick to stop and grab her keys from the counter before reaching a hand behind her, lightly tapping her backside with the back of his hand before sliding his hand into the back pocket of her jean shorts.
Mick let out a small shriek, her body reflexively moving down and away, out of Butchy's grasp. "What on earth?! Butchy, what the hell?!"
Butchy would've doubled over in laughter if his crutches weren't keeping him upright. Mick watched him get out his laughter before brushing a hand over her pocket where he had put his hand and realizing that he had done it to get a rise out of her. Mick huffed in frustration, turning to the door and swinging it open. She wasn't going to let him play and not have any revenge of her own.
Butchy headed to the door, leaning his crutches out of the doorway. Mick saw her opportunity and took it. As he prepared to swing himself down the step, Butchy felt a pinch on his backside, making him let out a high-pitched noise. Butchy moved down the step as Mick giggled and left the house behind him, locking it as they left.
"How's that little slice of revenge, Babe?" Mick asked cheerfully as she headed down the steps.
"Well, from this angle, it's lookin' pretty dang tasty," Butchy claimed candidly as he followed Mick at a small distance.
Mick clicked her tongue back at Butchy, noting to herself that he was, most likely, watching her. "Closet perv."
Once they had arrived at the party, the fun seemed to begin. Big Momma had let the groups rent out the restaurant so long as her head manager was there to supervise and, so far, everything was going well. Everyone had helped to decorate the place using the wedding reception décor and the jukebox was playing at full volume. A bunch of the two gangs had gotten gifts for Butchy, but they had decided to let the injured male celebrate for a little while before letting him open gifts.
Tanner and Butchy had actually sat and talked for a long while, going over the fact that Tanner had witnessed the accident and felt a fair bit of responsibility for allowing his new friend to race. Lela had been very stressed about the whole incident and Tanner had felt responsible for that as well. After almost 20 minutes of talking, Butchy had convinced Tanner that it wasn't the surfer's fault, but Xander's. Butchy would've won the race unscathed if Xander hadn't pulled what he did, so it was nobody else's fault.
After mostly everyone had their time conversing with Butchy and telling him what had happened during his time in the hospital, the brunette finally had the time to relax and listen to the conversation around him. Before someone else had the opportunity to strike up another long-winded conversation, Giggles made her way over to the injured biker and his girlfriend.
"Hey, you two," Giggles chirped happily. "I'm only stopping by for a minute, so don't worry about having to play another round of Twenty Questions."
Butchy's lopsided smile seemed to grow a little at the blonde's joke before he took another swig of his drink and spoke up. "We wouldn' mind if yous stuck around, Gigs."
"Yeah," Mick agreed, standing to give her best surfer friend a hug. "You're like a sister to me and I haven't had the chance to hang out with you in ages."
Giggles smiled sadly into Mick's shoulder before correcting herself and leaning out of the hug slightly. "I know. We should have a Girl's Day again soon."
"We should!" Mick agreed excitedly. "Maybe when Butchy and I get back from visiting my parents' house."
"I didn't know you both were leaving," Giggles said in slight confusion. "Well, anyway, I wanted to give you both this as a small gift before I head out."
Giggles held out the rectangle object before placing it on the table Butchy and Mick had been sitting at. The gift wasn't wrapped in paper, but there was a thick string wrapped around it with a purple bow tying it to the front. Once Mick sat down, Butchy took off the bow and placed it on the top of Mick's head to make her giggle.
With that accomplished, Butchy unwrapped the rest of the string and opened the top cover of the object. The inside of the object was filled with photographs of the couple and their friends. Different words had been glued or written in the spaced between the pictures. As Butchy flipped through the pages, he noticed that almost, if not, everyone at the party had written a message to him and Mick in the margins that surrounded the photographs. After going through multiple pages, he ended up finding some blank pages along with a few clear plastic slips.
Upon noticing the confusion on Butchy's face, Giggles spoke up, "I've been working on it for a little while now. It's a scrapbook for you both to keep important pictures and memories in. Those empties are for you two to create your own memories."
Butchy set down the book, taking a glance at Mick before standing to the best of his abilities and reaching his arms around the blonde surfer. "Thanks, Gia. The fact that you put so much thought into it means a lot."
Giggles swallowed thickly, keeping a smile on her face as she patted the tall biker on the back. "Of course. You both are so photogenic and I thought you'd like it."
Mick stood from her seat and moved to join Giggles and Butchy's little hug. "We love it, Giggles," Mick agreed. "Thank you so much."
Giggles gave the pair a last squeeze before moving away. "I'm glad." Giggles took a deep breath before pretending to glance over the bar at the clock that hung over it. "Well, I hate to say it, but I have to go. My folks are coming back from their little vacation and I promised to make them dinner so they wouldn't have to eat airplane food."
"Oh," Mick sighed. "Well, give them our best and have a good time with them, okay?"
"I will," Giggles insisted, giving the couple another bright smile before leaving the restaurant.
"Tch," Giggles heard from the edge of the restaurant's porch.
'Miles,' Giggles thought to herself. "What?" she asked as calmly as she could.
"You know," Miles drawled, taking his feet down from the top of the table and setting them on the ground, "that little book you gave them looks a lot like the one Cheech gave to you and Butch for your anniversary."
Giggles stared in bewilderment at the brunette as he rose from his seat to lean against the top of the stair railing. "Y-you remember?"
Miles shrugged nonchalantly. "Bits and pieces. I know that if Mick 'and't come when she did, it would prob'ly be you and Butch getting' ready for a weddin' and not them."
"It doesn't matter now, does it?" she asked rhetorically. She knew that her chanced with him were long gone, but she still felt the connection they'd had all that time ago. It still burned.
Miles tipped his head to each side as though in thought. "Probably not seein' as he doesn' remember anythin'. Far as he knows, Mick showed up and has been his love ever since. Anythin' from the past is gone as far as 'm aware."
Giggles nodded sadly. "I thought as much."
"That doesn' mean yous gotta give up too, y'know," Miles stated as the wind blew gently across them both. "Mick loves havin' you 'round, Butch likes talkin' with a surfer chick who'll actually argue back, I don' mind havin' you round either, if that means anythin' to ya."
"I know and thank you," Giggles acknowledged, giving a half smile in gratitude. "I'm not giving up, rather I'm stepping back from what used to be and moving on. I just need time and the right mentality."
Miles nodded in understanding before shifting away from the railing and toward the front of the restaurant. "Well, if it matters, you've got both bikers and surfers here for you; Mick and Butchy included."
Giggles inhaled slowly and accepting the comment before making her way down the beach, toward her home. Once she heard the front door of Big Momma's swinging as Miles went inside to probably talk with Mick again. Looking back over her shoulder just to make sure she was alone, Giggles sighed and continued her trek, beginning to sing aloud a song that she had learned while visiting Mack and Brady.
{Giggles}
I see that you're settled down. That you found a girl and you're almost married now. I heard that your dreams came true. Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you.
Old friend, why are you so shy? Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light.
I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited, but I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it. I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded that for me it isn't over.
Never mind, I'll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you, too. Don't forget me, I beg. I'll remember you said, "Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead. Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"
You know how the time flies. Only yesterday was the time of our lives. We were born and raised in a summer haze, bound by the surprise of our glory days.
I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited, but I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it. I'd hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded that for me it isn't over.
Never mind, I'll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you, too. Don't forget me, I beg. I'll remember you said, "Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."
Nothing compares; no worries or cares, regrets and mistakes, they are memories made.
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?
Never mind, I'll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you. Don't forget me, I beg. I'll remember you said, "Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead".
Never mind, I'll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you, too. Don't forget me, I beg. I'll remember you said, "Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead. Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead..."
As Giggles approached the front door of her house, she stopped, her thoughts finally catching up with her as she realized that those times would never come back. All she was left with, were the memories of better days and what used to be. Mick had Butchy, they were happy together. Giggles was happy for them. She really was.
Sometimes, however, she wished she could forget how it felt to be forgotten.
