As mentioned before it is far easier to destroy than it is to create. It is easier to kill a child than it is to raise a child.
When Azrael and Death came to Egypt the forces of Hell had worked spectacularly and all the firstborn boys of Egypt were being killed by orders of the Pharoah after he felt threatened by the growing number of slaves. She held the boy's hands and lead them on a path one by one up the stairway of Heaven.
But like with all power comes the overconfidence. When you sit on the throne of an ever-expanding empire with only the sky as your limit to what you can accomplish it often runs to their head. As when Satan rebelled against Heaven they always think of those below them weak and not able to ever outsmart their misplaced identities in cunningness and charisma.
Women were not targeted during this attack because throughout history women have been the weaker shadows of men. They have often been considered as half-human in comparison unable to think or act for themselves. Which is interesting as the people who always hid behind a mask of religion in defense of their misogyny seem to forget that the Almighty created woman beside man and not behind him.
Because of this lack in judgment, many boys were saved through various midwives, mothers, and daughters all forming groups and secretly helping many male children survive to the next generation. However many male children still died. In fact, almost all of them did. A sad time in history for certain.
However, where there is darkness there is also light and in this light was a young baby. The blood of Isreal still lived on.
His sister put him in a basket and thanks to some angelic miracles from the shore banks by Aziraphale the baby safely to where the Pharoah's daughter was taking a bath. She saw the baby and with some angelic persuasion took a liking to him and decided to raise him as her own.
In fact, the biological mother and sister got to have a hand in raising the child thanks to some angelic miracles.
He was raised in the palace as a prince and left Egypt when he killed a man who was beating a slave to Death. After the Almighty spoke to him within the burning bush he knew he was to go set the people of Egypt free. He did not do this alone as his brother was beside him. And of course, he had a certain angel and demon protecting him from the shadows.
His name was Moses.
