Typed Kisses

Ahsoka had been walking through the halls of the Jedi Temple for almost an hour, bored beyond belief. Anakin was off on a solo recon mission, so that left Ahsoka to entertain herself until he got back and roped her into pulling some prank or going on some unexpected mission. The last person she expected to run into on this floor was Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, who turned the corner and startled her.

"My apologies, Ahsoka. I was a bit lost in my thoughts."

She had come to think of Obi-Wan as a sort of father figure. While she wasn't as close to him as Anakin was, he was always good for advice. Especially when she was feeling conflicted by something and couldn't go to Anakin about it, Obi-Wan was always there to help her think logically with her head and not emotionally with her heart.

The envelope in his hand had fluttered to the ground, and she scooped it up, turning it over in her hand before handing it to him.

"It's okay, Master. Where are you off to? What's that?" She didn't mean to pester him as she walked alongside him, but she was still so bored that even the long journey down to the mailroom was better than wandering around alone.

"Oh um… It's a report I was to deliver to Master Fisto. Communications are spotty where he is so I… I'm sending it this way."

"Hm. Sounds...slow."

Obi-Wan didn't have a response for that. They walked along in silence for a while, Obi-Wan silently hoping that Ahsoka would grow bored and leave him. If she came with him to the mailroom and saw the planet he was actually sending the envelope to…

"So how is Master Fisto?"

"He is doing well."

More silence. Ahsoka wasn't stupid, she could tell that Obi-Wan was hiding something. It didn't take a special connection to the Force to figure that out. His steps were slow and deliberate, as if he was trying to convince her to get bored and find something else to do. Little did he know, Ahsoka Tano did not give up easily when there were secrets to be discovered.

"What is the report on? Which battle?"

"Um…" Obi-Wan mentaly cursed his sudden inability to lie to Anakin's padawan. He wasn't sure if it was just because he knew she could be trusted, or because he was nervous that Ahsoka would find out the truth. Everyone in the Order knew that if you told Ahsoka something, you might as well have told Anakin as well. He let out a deep sigh, halting their rather casual stroll. "If I show you the contents of this envelope, you cannot tell anyone. Not even Anakin. Understand?"

"I won't tell a soul." She grinned as she faced him, eager to know something that even Anakin didn't.

Obi-Wan let out a heavy sigh, breaking the seal on the envelope and handing it to her. He watched her face as she tried to read the typed letter inside, and Obi-Wan couldn't help but chuckle when she huffed and frowned at him.

"I can't read it."

"I didn't think you could." He chuckled, a bit of relief in his voice as he spoke. He was beyond relieved to find that the Jedi Order still didn't teach this particular language to its younglings.

"What language is it?" Ahsoka asked, her eyes scanning the letter again. "It doesn't look remotely like anything I would know."

"It's Mando'a." he said, rubbing a hand over his beard in an attempt to distract himself from the heat crawling up his neck as they resumed their walk.

"Isn't that a dead language from Mandalore?" she raised an eyebrow as she continued to stare at the letter. "I thought all Mandalorians speak English now."

"There are some who still speak Mando'a, but they are few."

"How did you learn it? We get taught multiple languages as younglings but… Even we aren't fluent in them. Not to this extent."

"The Duchess taught me." he said rather quietly, chuckling uneasily. "While we were hiding from insurgents, it kept our minds occupied. I'm sure Anakin told you about that."

"He mentioned it. A little." Ahsoka grinned. "So I'm assuming you're sending this letter to her?"

"...Yes. It's been some time since the Duchess and I last spoke, and with tensions running high in the Senate, I dare not try to visit Mandalore to see her in person." he saw the grin widening on Ahsoka's face out of his peripheral, and he rolled his eyes. "Sending physical letters is an outdated practice, I know."

"But you put your own spin on it. You're sending letters in a dead language that only you two speak." she shrugged, her eyes scanning over the letter again. "No one else around you will be able to read it. It's probably the smartest way to encrypt a message."

"Ah, thank you Ahsoka." Obi-Wan chuckled. "I suppose."

They walked towards the elevator and entered it, the letter still in Ahsoka's hand as she leaned against the wall and continued to try reading it.

"It looks like a beautiful language. Whatever it says."

"Mando'a has an ancient dialect that was used mostly for special occasions. Ceremonies and the like." he smiled to himself as his gaze shifted to the middle distance, memories of he and Satine sitting in a field repeating Mando'a phrases fluttered through his mind. "Satine's mother taught it to her, and she taught it to me. It is indeed a...beautiful language."

"Especially this part down here."

Obi-Wan looked over to see what she was pointing at, his cheeks burning a deep crimson as he recognized it immediately. The symbol was a stylized small spiral that ended with a diamond at its center, something that he'd practiced drawing by hand several times before he perfected it. It had taken him hours to convert it into the computer, but he was thoroughly convinced that it got the point across. It wasn't a part of traditional Mando'a, it was something he and Satine had created together. "Please don't ask what it-"

"What word does it stand for?"

Obi-Wan chuckled uneasily, his face flushing so much that he was sure he had broken out in a sweat. He glanced above the elevator doors, groaning inwardly when he saw they still had several floors to go. There was no avoiding this conversation, short of using the Force to pry the doors open and leaping onto whatever landing they were currently passing. But that would only serve to peak her interest further.

There was no point in trying to negotiate himself out of this one, it was best to simply be direct.

"It…" he cleared his throat when his voice cracked. "It's a kiss."

"A kiss?" Ahsoka blinked, her gaze whipping to Obi-Wan who was staring at the elevator doors so hard she thought he might be trying to will them open. She grinned wildly when she saw how red his face was, the urge to bounce on her toes almost too enticing to resist, but she kept her composure.

"Yes." he couldn't help but chuckle at the excitement written all over her face. "Mando'a often substitutes phrases and actions with symbols for written text. Satine and I… came up with that one on our own."

"That's adorable." she laughed, handing the envelope and letter back to him.

"Adorable. Right."

Obi-Wan raised an eyebrow at her as he tucked the letter back in its envelope. They turned to face the doors again, silence settling on them. The only sound was the hum of the elevator and the gentle dings that sounded as they descended. Obi-Wan could clearly sense the million questions buzzing around in her head, and wondered when they would flood from her. She surprised him when she only asked one.

"So are you two…?"

"That question has a very complicated answer that I'm not sure I'm ready to give."

She nodded but didn't ask him to elaborate.

They reached the mailroom floor what felt like an eternity later. When they disembarked, Ahsoka started walking down a separate hallway that didn't lead to the mailroom.

"Not a word of this to anyone, Ahsoka." Obi-Wan called after her, glad that no one else was around. "This stays between the two of us until I find a suitable time to tell Anakin."

His voice was stern, but that didn't stop her from grinning when she turned to face him.

"I don't even know what you're talking about, Master Kenobi."

His rather relieved chuckle echoed after her as she continued her walk away from him. She wanted to tell Anakin about this so badly, the two of them would have fun with this little development. But she had made a promise. Besides, if Master Kenobi and Duchess Satine were as obvious in person as Anakin said they were, it wouldn't be long before something as simple as a typed Mando'a kiss would be the least of Obi-Wan's worries.

A/N: Another hard one to write. Pretty much did my own thing for this one, wasn't sure what I wanted to do with this prompt XD I hope you enjoyed anyway! I wanted some interaction between Obi-Wan and Ahsoka. Review please!
