Author's Note: This is a companion piece to my other "Frozen 2" story posted a few months ago. Just a cute, fluffy story about an adorable Disney couple. Please leave a review!
Queen Anna of Arendelle sat up in her massive king-sized bed, half a dozen pillows propping her up as she sewed by candlelight. Her swollen ankles were resting on another pillow, the fire across her bedchamber warming her toes. She stuck her tongue out the corner of her mouth as she finished the arm to her latest baby nightgown. She had weeks left to finish as many clothes as possible for her children and she was terribly behind.
She leaned further back against the pillows, resting a hand on her huge belly. When Pabbie told her a few months ago he sensed "two souls" growing in her, she nearly fainted. Being pregnant in the first place had its ups and downs, but carrying twins? That was completely unexpected. After the initial shock wore off, Anna kicked preparations into high gear. She was not going to fail at being a mother. Not if she had anything to say about it.
The bedchamber door opened and her husband Kristoff stumbled inside. He shut the door and leaned back against it with a sigh. His blonde hair was dishevelled and his stubble was growing thicker. Anna smiled over at him. "Long day?"
"You have no idea," he groaned.
As king consort, Kristoff had his own duties to attend to throughout the day, but with the birth drawing nearer, Kristoff had stepped up to take over a large portion of Anna's duties as well. Elsa and Honeymaren had moved into the castle a week ago to help the rulers with whatever was needed. Anna felt safer having Elsa there, especially when the time came to welcome her twins into the world.
Kristoff kicked off his leather boots, shrugged off his green jacket, and stumbled towards the closet to pull out his nightshirt. She watched with a smirk as he fumbled with the buttons on his pants. She shook her head as he finally managed to get into his nightly attire and crawl into bed beside her. His side only had one pillow, but he laid his head beside her belly against one of the pillows. He rested his hand on her stomach, rubbing slow circles over the swollen skin covered in one of his shirts. Hardly anything fit her anymore, so Anna had taken a liking to stealing Kristoff's clothes—when not in public, of course.
Anna held up the nightgown. "What do you think?"
Kristoff glanced up. "It's great, if you think one of our kids will have three arms."
Anna stuck her tongue out at him. She put the sewing aside. "I'll fix it tomorrow." She placed one of her hands on Kristoff's head and ran her fingers through his hair, eliciting a content sigh from him.
"I can't believe it's almost time," she mused. "It feels like this has been going on forever."
"Mmf," Kristoff muttered, his eyes shut.
Anna stared at the fireplace as moonlight filled the room from the open window. Despite the temperatures dropping daily, Anna liked sleeping with the window open during her pregnancy. It helped with the constant hot flashes.
"Do you think we'll be good parents?"
Kristoff snuggled closer to his wife's side. "Of course we will. Why wouldn't we?"
Anna shrugged, worrying her lower lip between her teeth. "We don't exactly have much experience with babies, let alone two of them."
Kristoff kissed her stomach. "We'll figure it out. And if we need help, you know Auntie Elsa wouldn't say no to stayed here a little longer until we figure out a routine."
Yes, "Auntie Elsa" had already insisted she would stay at least a week after the babies were born. Anna had no doubt if she asked, her sister would eagerly extend her stay.
Anna leaned back against the pillows, tilting her head up to the ceiling. "I was my mother was here."
Since she found out she was pregnant, Anna had been thinking a lot about Queen Iduna. What had her experience with her two pregnancies been like? Was she scared? Excited? Nervous? Anna wished there was a way to ask her.
Kristoff reached over and took one of her hands in his. "She's here with you. Even if you can't see her."
Anna nodded. "Do you ever think about your birth parents?"
Over the years, they hadn't talked about Kristoff's past a great deal. It wasn't that he didn't want to share, but there wasn't much to tell. He barely remembered anything before being taken in by the rock trolls, and even less before he joined up with the Arendellian ice gatherers. As far as he was concerned, the rock trolls were his family.
Kristoff ran his thumb along Anna's knuckles. "Sometimes. I wonder what they were like, if they missed me when I disappeared, or if I disappeared at all. Perhaps I was abandoned." He shrugged then sat up beside Anna. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, drawing her closer to lean against him. "We may not know exactly what we're doing, but our children will always be loved. They'll always feel safe with us. And that's what matters." He kissed her forehead. "We should get some rest. Tomorrow you promised you would join me at the Harvest Festival."
Anna groaned as she settled in beside her husband. "I did, didn't I? Do you think the foreign dignitaries would mind if I wore one of your shirts and a pair of your pants?" She couldn't imagine stuffing herself into a dress for several hours.
Kristoff chuckled as he tucked Anna in. "I'll let you take that up with Elsa." His sister-in-law might have a different opinion on Anna's clothing choice than him.
