If you thought that giving a bunch of land to people who turned on each other and God when the wind blew sideways sounded like trouble you would be correct.

As it so happened the fool Micah decided to commit idolatry and defile history and culture. Death had time before the sunset that day. The Danites settled in Lasih and took these idols. Death found the whole thing rather unamusing. Classic humans performing classic human stupidity.

A concubine left her husband and then was welcomed into her family's home only to be deranged. Literally. She belonged to a Levie. Once again nothing Death had not seen before. He knew it was going to happen. It was ineffable. Written in the book of life before she even got her first breath in on Earth.

The Israelites then turned their attention to the Benjamites and defeated them with ease. The Israelites were fond of them and even helped them all get wives. Once again Death watched Azreal by his side without so much as a turn of his skeleton head.

Without so much as missing a beat they went to be victorious against Jerusalem and Hebron. Once again. Nothing too impresive for War or Scarlet as she called herself now to have been in charge of orchestrating.

But like the tale as old as time, Isreal turned back to their old sinful ways and were rebuked and punished once more. Once again the cycle of the human race. Do awful things. Feel bad for it. Promise to never do it again. Do it again within the next ten years. Repeat. Try telling Death he was wrong. He had seen it all before. He even knew his own fate. Or what others thought would be his faith. For all their evilness and Holiness, the demons and angels had no imagination. They couldn't think outside their little boxes. They thought the knew the Ineffable Plan. Boy were they all in for a lesson for the Almighty.

Isreal once again went into servitude. From this Othniel was there. The first judge. The first leader. They didn't serve as kings really. More as advisors. God knew it was not wise to give people too much power. It had to be balanced. This is why She designed courts in everything and anything She did. But the people demanded a king.

Then came Eglon who took over Isreal when they decided to try and kill each other again. They said sorry and made up for it with good deeds and worship and were given another chance. Ehud came to save the people and deliver them from their suffering.

They, of course, failed miserably giving in to the lust of War, the waste of Pollution, the foolishness of Pestilence, the greed of Famine and the security of Death as soon as Ehud passed onto the next life and Death laid his finger upon his beating heart.

Still, two new leaders came after. There was Deborah a female of strength and leadership. She had a stamina that one would find impressive to combat the sexist comments thrown her way about a woman who dared to try and tell men what to do. She wrote poetry as well and was kind and gentle as well as firm and steadfast in upholding the law. When she came to Death was still not impressed. She wasn't the only female leader.

Next was Barak. He was exactly like Deborah except he had a penis. He was a good leader. He always made sure to make the people feel included in community discussions. He made great work of making sure everyone was on time for all the festivals and made sure everyone had offerings. Like Deborah, he also liked to write out his feelings and prayers on paper in songs. Aziraphale had helped with that one. Little principality sparkle fo creativity. When Death came to collect he found himself not impressed once more. A leader who cared about his people. Very uncommon. But not non-existent. Once again it took a lot to impress Death. Many knew for many had met him.

Once again the people became evil and corrupt. Killing and enslaving each other. Usual stuff. They were turned over to the Midians who were known for their cruel and oppressive taktets on their enslaved people groups they took over. The Israelites made shelters for themselves in the mountain tops thanks to a particular stranger who always seemed to be there. He had soft blonde curls and gentle blue eyes.

Famine had a ball as the Midianites, Amalekites and other eastern peoples invaded and destroyed their lands whenever they tried and plant crops and attempted to raise livestock. They took everything. Children starved to Death. Grown men reduced to skeletons. All poetic. Of course, poetry could never outdo an angel's lullaby. The children died painlessly. Now this impressed Death. An angel who loved humanity more than he loved himself. He was gentle unlike the other angels Death had seen before. Now this impressed Death. But turns out he wasn't the only one with eyes for the angel. Without fault, there was a demon watching from the shadows. Perhaps he was as impressed as Death was. Only time would tell.

As the story goes a man named Gideon who was pure of heart, mind, and soul was able to reach out to God and help bring back the faith the people had lost so long ago. He did sacrifices and the old dew faith test. Hope was restored once more. The innocent would no longer have to suffer for the crimes of the guilty who came before them. But yet some faltered in their faith.

And Death would smile as he knew the paths of his favorite mystery were about to cross yet again.
