A/N this fic was inspired by Luki's Step To The Left where Tsuna owns a magikarp thinking it was the most normal and harmless pokemon. I really wanted a sort of continuation and I guess this is it for me.

Do not own pokemon or KHR.

Enjoy!

Being a pokemon master was everything a child will ever want to be in the sleepy town of Namimori. As town wakes at the wee hours of the morning, its residents starts their daily hustle with their trusty pokemon at their sides. It was almost like propaganda, really, as pokemon was part of their daily lives it led every child astray with the thought that becoming a pokemon trainer is the only career available in life. Every child except a child named Sawada Tsunayoshi.

Growing up in a modest house at a typical housing district with his mother and his father, who had apparently became a star, Tsunayoshi or Tsuna for short was as average as average could be. With adorable large doe eyes and a shy demure, nobody thought Tsuna was anything different from them but Tsuna knew better. He was different from the rest of the residents.

He knew that he had to be because the rest of them were INSANE.

How could anyone possibly feel safe when an element bending, fighting crazed animal is lapping at your feet and demanding belly rubs?! Did no one else see how DANGEROUS it was to keep pokemon by your sides and trust them not to trash your house as you leave on an errand?! Fighting and aggression was in their blood for crying out loud! Furthermore, how are people who claim to love pokemon so much able to stomach the thought of eating meat?! Where did they think the meat came from? Normal animals evolved a long time ago to become pokemon and so that was why many pokemons looked like a distinct animal that was equipped with weird appendages.

It was sheer insanity and hypocrisy of the highest level.

Due to this, Tsuna, unlike every one in the town refused to become a pokemon trainer or even have anything to do with pokemons. The only pokemon he had contact with was his mother's Ditto but Ditto was more of a slime instead of an animal with obvious aggressive tendencies. Plus, his mother's Ditto managed to get infected with the famous "airhead, ditzy Nana Syndrome" where anyone infected with it will become the most harmless, cheerful but absolutely oblivious being in the entire universe. There was once when Tsuna was five that his neighbor's houndoom pounced onto the unsuspecting Tsuna with embers shooting off its mouth. He was clearly attacked by that hound from hell and yet Nana took one look and cooed.

"Awwww, he just wants to play with you Tsu-kun!"

Yeah, play the "lets try to burn Tsu-kun alive" game apparently.

That incident only solidified his thoughts on pokemon and the dangers they posed to humankind.

As such, Tsuna refused to undergo any sort of pokemon education with the philosophy of 'if I know less about them, the less I have to fear for my life and sanity in this mad world. Ignorance is a bliss and I am going to abuse it to the limit.' Everyone in town teased him, bullied him and even tried to force a pokemon onto him but he vehemently refused and gladly accepted his position as the town's resident weirdo. But despite his loud protest against pokemon and very deliberate distancing from any whenever possible, Tsuna had a bleeding heart of gold that could never let anyone suffer in front of him. It was thanks to this that when he found a magikarp, splashing futilely against other pokemon that were trying to attack it that Tsuna mustered all the courage he could and stood in front of the magikarp, defending it with all his might. The attacks hurt like hell but they were comparable to the punches and kicks from his bullies. While withstanding the attacks, Tsuna could not help but smile mirthlessly, maybe humans and pokemons were not that different after all.

Eventually the pokemon got bored of Tsuna and stalked off to find its next victim. Sighing with relief and exhaustion flooding his entire body, Tsuna scooped up the wounded magikarp and lugged his way home to treat its wounds. While trudging back home, Tsuna missed the sparkles in the magikarp's eyes as it stared at Tsuna the entire way home.

Seeing her son bring home his first pokemon, Nana was excited beyond belief! Finally! Her son was starting to warm up to these lovable creatures and so she proceeded to cook a feast fit for kings. Usually, Tsuna would be ecstatic that there was his favourite sashimi for dinner but looking at his plate and looking back at the tank where the wounded magikarp laid asleep, from that day on Tsuna swore off fish.

When magikarp was healed, Tsuna wanted to release her (he found out) back into the wild but it stubbornly refused, even going to the length of trying to splash its way back to Tsuna's house. With an exasperated sigh, it was how Tsuna finally owned his first pokemon. It helped with how all magikarp, which looked like a proper animal, could only splash to low heights and was content with food and affection. It was slightly upsetting that he could not stomach any fish after owning magikarp but out of all the crazy pokemon out there he could have been saddled with, a normal and harmless magikarp was definitely the one he would pick – just for his sanity's sake.

Soon they fell into routine and it was as if Tsuna had owned magikarp his whole life. Tsuna would usually pet its scales and feed it as he rambled on about his day and magikarp would preen at the attention she was getting from her favourite(only) trainer. On days when Tsuna did not have anything to do, he would carry her tank and release her into the nearby lake to swim about and stretch her fins while he would bring a book to keep himself occupied. It was on one of those days at the lake where all the duo wanted to do was relax that his usual bullies found him.

"Oh look here, weirdo Tsuna finally has a pokemon! Of course, out of all the pokemon he would choose a rubbish pokemon like magikarp. It suits him! Both are equally weird and useless to this society! Let us generously help that magikarp evolve, at least one of them will be worth something." With that, the boys started hurling rocks at the defenseless magikarp, snickering to motion for a bigger rock.

Fury welled up from his belly and engulfed his entire being, how dare they say such things about his magikarp?! With amber eyes raging with anger, Tsuna threw his book at the boys and marched up towards them to give them a piece of his mind.

"Who are you to say anything about my magikarp! If anything, you guys who pick on the weak are the real trash in society! I don't need my magikarp to be strong or fierce, I don't need her to be anything she is not because she is perfect(normal) in every way and I love her for it."

By the end of speech Tsuna was left huffing and puffing as his stunned bullies silently retreated. Alas, while he was defending her yet again, Tsuna failed to notice that when previously, magikarp's eyes would be stars shining as she looked at him, it was now a supernova blazing with the intensity of a thousand suns.

Turning back to check if magikarp was hurt, he was just in time to see a blue light encasing magikarp and it morphed its entire being into becoming something much bigger and wider. When the glow ended, Tsuna was greeted to the sight of a fierce gyarados that started nuzzling its head against Tsuna.

Tsuna's brain was whirring and running at full engine but he could not process what was going on. His magikarp…his perfect, normal, sane, magikarp…was now a gyarados?!

And so, in typical Tsuna fashion with how he deals with the insane world, he screeched out a "HIEEEE" and promptly fainted on the spot.

Hope you enjoyed it!
