Banish The World!
Howdy, folks! This is me with another story that I've been imagining for a while, from Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shittai! Enjoy!
Prologue
Sometimes, when you encountered children and pre-teenagers acting like someone else - believing that they were some kind of character of stories beyond the wildest imagination - heroes, villains, wizards, princess, warlocks, even gods and demons in human skin, for example; interacting with objects that were not even there, as if they were inside an entirely different reality; what went through your mind?
Freaked out? Confused? Amused? The reaction was varied from person to person. Nonetheless, all of them eventually arrived at one conclusion - those children were going through a phase known as 'Eighth-Grade Syndrome'. It was a phase the might or might not go together with puberty, but the main point was that the syndrome was the phase when the children's imaginations were at their peak, to the point they were caught in their own fantasies, causing their behaviour to live in their own little world.
However, what if the syndrome was not merely a phase? What if the so-called syndrome was… something more, something that went beyond human comprehension and reality themselves? The truth behind the Eighth-Grade Syndrome was revealed to a group of teenagers who were, more or less, still struggling with this dilemma.
Yuuta Togashi had no idea how he got to where he was standing at the moment.. He could barely see his limbs, but he knew that he was standing, but strangely, he could not feel the footing beneath him, as if he was floating, yet not at the same time. His surroundings were dark, or more like, blurry while covered in black clouds.
"Where am I…?" Yuuta could not remember how he came to where he was, as he tried to move forward. He could not feel the ground he was standing on, but he found he could walk just fine. A few steps later, the black clouds began to dissipate and he found himself on a barren wasteland.
He blinked his eyes as he tried to make out of his surroundings. Cracked and dry ground beneath his feet, ruins of civilization and dead plantations were around him, as far as he looked. Above him were dark clouds with no sign of sun shining through. "What happened here…?" Yuuta asked in mild horror as he might or might not recognize some of the buildings.
Suddenly, an earth-shaking roar echoed across the place, causing Yuuta to immediately duck to the ground and cover his ears in fear. The roar lasted for a few seconds, and even after it subsided, Yuuta was still shaken as he looked around frantically with his ears still ringing. "What was that?!" He asked nobody in particular as he barely managed to get back on his feet.
When he stood up and was about to regain his bearing, however, the spectacle in front of him caused him to freeze.
A massive, flying serpentine visage was dancing in the darkened sky. At first Yuuta thought it was some kind of phantom or hallucination, but his fear re-emerged when the creature's glowing pair of red orbs were seemingly directed at him. A dragon - was the first thing that somehow came first to Yuuta's mind, as his eyes were enraptured at the majestic yet terrifying sight.
Then, without warning, the dragon, with its jet black scales suddenly dived towards him with an open maw filled with razor-sharp fangs, ready to swallow him whole. At the sight of the gaping maw of his doom, Yuuta instinctively shielded himself in futility.
oXo
Rikka Takanashi had no idea how she got to where she was standing at the moment. She looked around and found she was standing in the middle of the city where she lived, in front of a crossroad to be precise. She blinked and looked around, there were people around her waiting for their green light to show up. She looked ahead and saw her friends from school, or more like her club, were waiting for her, waving at her with smiles on their faces, beckoning her to catch up with them.
Rikka found herself smiling at the sight of them, and when the green light flashed, and she took a step forward, her right eye - covered with her medical eye-patch as the part of her identity of Tyrant's Eyes, suddenly tingled.
It only took a second when the tickle suddenly began too intense, causing her to shut her eyes and buckled down to the ground in sheer pain. "Yuuta…!" She wheezed out, expecting her friends and boyfriend to immediately come to her help only to find something that caused her eyes to bulge out, the pain momentarily forgotten.
She slowly took her eye-patch off with her trembling eyes, as everything around her was in flames and ruin. She looked around in shock, fear and confusion; everything went wrong way too fast. "Yuuta…?" she croaked, hoping to find her lover among the charred corpses. "...Yuuta?" When she could not find any sign of the boy, she stood up with wobbly legs and tried to find the others.
"Dekomori!" She cried louder.
"Nibutani!" she walked around to see more flames around her.
"Kumin!" She cried before she went into a coughing fit; it was getting hard to breath as smoke and dust mixed with rotten smell went to her nose. She was about to cry for her sister, her parents, but she was too shocked and mentally overwhelmed to even shout anymore.
Dropping on her knees, her already dropping tears began to flow more like a river, as she sobbed in despair. "Yuuta…." She whispered the name like a prayer, hoping for her hero to come and save her.
The air shifted slightly, and Rikka found herself looking up to see the scorching sun hovering right above her. The heat from the sun and the fire around her was suffocating as she began to lose consciousness herself. Then, when she was about to collapse, her hazy eyes caught something in the distance.
It was a silhouette of a tall figure, hidden behind the smoke and dust-cloud. However, Rikka could vaguely make out of a man wielding a spear, riding on a horse. Still, while it was not humongous, the size of the man and his ride was rather big from what Rikka knew. Her vision was blurry from the pain and exhaustion, but she could have sworn that the horse had way too many legs that it should have. Then, Rikka heard some murmuring.
#### and ##### travelled to the forest.
Rikka looked around to see the source of the voice, but found that the voice came from everywhere, she could even hear the voice coming from above. However, it was not loud, only barely enough for her to make out some of the words.
Then was four ######'s foal its foot wrenched.
The words sounded Japanese, but for the life of her, Rikka could not grasp what they were talking about. Moreover, she could not make out some of the words.
Then encharmed it ####### and #####, her sister...
This time, it was her left eye that acted weird. It was painful enough that she had to shut her eyes again, but the pain was not as much as her earlier episode with her right eye, but she still could tell that something else was happening.
Then encharmed it ##### and ##### her sister, then encharmed it #####, as he the best could.
Rikka then saw the visage behind the smoke slowly vanishing away. She wanted to give chase, but once again exhaustion robbed the consciousness out of her mind. The one last thing she heard before she knew no more was one particular sentence.
...Bone to bone, blood to blood, limb to limb, so be glued.
Yuuta gasped as he jolted up from his bed. His heart was beating against his rib-cage, his T-shirt for sleepwear was caked in sweat pouring on his skin. He took a glance around to find himself in the bedroom of his apartment. It was morning and the sun was shining through the blinds of his window. Taking a breath, he opened the blinds to see it was just another normal day in Japan.
He downed the glass of water that had been placed next to his bed, hydrating his parched throat. He then got off the bed and walked towards the sliding entrance to his balcony - he could definitely use some fresh air after going through that kind of dream.
The morning air was refreshing, but what caught him off-guard next was he noticed the rope dangling from the floor above him was moving, which meant she was coming down. Preparing himself to help her landed safely on his balcony, Yuuta did not expect to see Rikka quickly slid down without his help, and as soon as her eyes saw him and her feet planted themselves on the edge of the railing, she immediately threw herself at him and wrapped her arms around his torso.
"Whoa!" Yuuta was startled at the sudden gesture and he fell to the floor from losing balance. He rubbed his bottom as he hissed in mild pain. "Ow…. Rikka, what are-!?"
However, his words of admonition died in his mouth when he noticed that Rikka was trembling, she was holding him so tight like a life-line, while burying her face into his chest. Moreover, judging from the dampness he felt on his shirt, his girlfriend was crying.
"Rikka…?" Yuuta called to her softly as he gently wrapped his arms around her petite frame to calm her down. "What's wrong?"
"Yuuta…" Rikka sobbed as she tried to dig her face even deeper into his chest.
The girl was scared, perhaps even terrified; that much Yuuta could tell. Then again, he himself was scared when he woke up this morning. He did not like seeing Rikka miserable like this, but he found himself calming down as they sat there in each other's arms. Thus, Yuuta said no more as he reaffirmed his hold on her, letting her and himself to bask in each other's arms until they could get themselves back together, under the morning sun.
Nonetheless, even with their mind steadily becoming calmer by seconds, neither Yuuta or Rikka could completely rid of the nightmare they had last night.
What the hell was that all about?
Outside of Japan, somewhere in the middle of Europe, a young man - clad in a white T-shirt and jersey pants that hugged his toned form, was woken up from his sleep. Drowsily, he looked around and found the cause of his current state - a cellphone that had been ringing with a moderate volume tune. He looked at the call ID, and he could not help but silently groan since he had to answer the caller. "...Bitte sagen Sie mir, dass dies ein wichtiger Anruf ist." He answered in a slightly-accented German. His words were polite, but he honestly was not amused being disturbed in the middle of the night.
[Bitte verzeihen Sie mir, dass ich Ihren Schlaf gestört habe, Sir. Dies ist jedoch ein wichtiger Aufruf. Unser Orakel System hat neue Signale aufgenommen, zwei davon.]
At the feminine voice replying from the other end, the man's eyes became more awake as they glanced at the phone by his ear. "Woher kommen die? Haben Sie weitere Informationen erhalten?"
When the woman from the other end of transmission gave her answer, the man took a deep breath and his expression hardened. "Bereiten Sie alles innerhalb der Woche vor. Ich werde mich mit meiner Schwester in Verbindung setzen."
He then ended the call and his back slumped back to the bed with a heavy sigh - I might need something to drink. Things were going to get hectic again, supernaturally speaking, at least.
Ta-da~ I gotta admit, I was kind of shit-faced when I wrote this story, so what do you think of the premise so far? Constructive reviews only, please!
