Hello! I hope you enjoy this chapter. It is actually quite a long one to make up for it being such a long wait. Enjoy!
i wake up and dress in my usual outfit of a button down shirt and black skirt. The only difference is today I am wearing tennis shoes. I am very aware that Dauntless jump on and off the Moving train and that requires running. I help everyone else get ready and we leave the house to go to the choosing ceremony. As we approach the hub this all begins to feel real. I was going to betray my family. We walk through the door that an Abnegation man was holding and walk to the elevator. Man, am I glad that I am not Abnegation. If I was we would have to walk up that entire flight of stairs! The elevator dings when we arrive on our floor. Everyone who is choosing today lines up in backwards alphabetical order. I am second to last in line. There is only one boy behind me. He is Amity though he doesn't seem to fit The description. He has a high posture, but not in a bubbly walking on clouds way. His posture is heavy. His hair is pitch black, his bangs go over his eyes, His smile seems fake as though it didn't belong to him, and his eyes show darkness. The girl in front of me seems familiar. She is a small abnegation girl. This year was Erudite's turn to be in charge of the chooseing ceremony. Jeanine walks up her heels clicking with every step. Person after person go then they call a name I recognize. "Tabor Martin!" She yells. This moment will decide whether or not I go to dauntless. I agreed to go with him, but first he must choose. He walks up confidently and picks up the knife on the table. He slices his hand open and allows the blood to accumulate in his palm. Once he had enough he dropped it into the bowl of hot coals. "Dauntless!" Jeanine yells. His mother's shrieks fill the room, but are drowned out by the dauntless' cheers. More and more people choose some names I recognize while other names I don't. "Rosie Phoenix" I don't know why, but this girls name caught my attention. A small bubbly amity girl with blond hair comes up and chooses Dauntless. She walks over to sit with dauntless, people cheering all around her. "Hemma Torres!" Jeanine yells after another handful of people are called up. Hemma walks up there and slices her hand open. The blood that she collected in her hand drops onto The coals just like Tabor's. Instead of her mother being upset though she is happy. "Dauntless" the cheers again engulf the auditorium. The auditorium seems to spin when we get down to thirteen people in front of me. My legs shake as though there was an earthquake. Brice is called up and he chooses Amity. He runs over to the only dauntless so far that has joined Amity this year. He kisses her and everyone in Abnegation gasps. Ten people to go Five, four, three, two "Amy Richards!" Crap I knew there was something familiar about the girl in front of me. She walks up the steps. I expect her to trip over her long dress that she is wearing, but she didn't. She goes to the table and picks up the knife, cuts her hand, and, with my luck, chooses dauntless. Her parents look disappointed, but don't make a big deal about it "Dauntless" Jeanine shouts.
Cheers again come erupting from the dauntless as she walks toward them over to where Hemma and Tabor are. I hear my name Called. "Addison Gayle!" I walk each step seems harder to take than the last. I can hear my heart beat from my chest almost exploding out. I step up one stair then another. Then I stare at the table i am supposed to be walking over to. I finally get my legs to move one step, another, then another, inching my way closer to the table. When I reach the table I grab the knife. My fingers wrap around it feeling so much power. Just like in the simulation. A twinge if guilt builds up as I realize I am smiling and staring at the knife. My face goes red and I put the tip at the meeting between my thumb and my hand. I drag it across just deep enough to draw blood. I assume if I wasn't so pumped with adrenaline it would be painful. I squeeze my hand trying to draw the blood faster. As that one drop breaks through the skin I hold my hand over the bowl of burning Coals. I feel the heat radiating off of them. I hear a sizzle and I know that the one drop of blood has Decided my fate for the rest of my life. "Dauntless" I hear a laugh from my mother before dauntless drowns her out. I can't believe she actually laughed about this. I walk over to Hemma and Tabor "hey" I say to get their attention back from Amy. "Hey Abby! Oh this is," she turns to face Amy "what do you want to be called?" Amy timidly looks down at the floor. "Just call me stiff for now."
"Oookaay?" Hemma says confused
"Asher Pheonix" Jeanine says why does that name seem familiar.
The amity boy behind me comes up and Jeanine hands him the knife. He slices his hand open and drops it into the bowl of coals. A woman in Amity bursts into tears while he walks over to us people screaming around him. He completely ignores them and heads straight to a blonde amity girl to hug her. The Dauntless start to run out of the room with the new initiates straight behind them. We run out the door, the fresh air filling my lungs. We run for a minute or so till we get to the train platform. People start climbing it. we do the same. "It's coming!" I hear a dauntless born say. The train begins to get louder as it approaches us. We start running. I see Hemma and Tabor up ahead. I go into a full on sprint to catch up. When I get to the same car as them I throw myself to the side earning some bruises, but I am sure there are a lot more to come. Everyone else follows my lead. There are seven people that made it on this car; All seven are transfers. Asher is in the corner with the Amity girl comforting her as she cries. The stiff is against a wall sitting completely motionless. An Erudite boy is in the darkest corner just leaning against the wall, and we are sitting in the middle out of breath. "So what's up with her?" The erudite boy says. Motioning to the amity girl. His voice is deep. "I am fine" she says through sobs
"You sure?" I say
"She said she is fine, leave her alone" Asher snaps
"Asher don't be rude." She says "just a little nervous. Hi my name is Rosie."
"Addy," I say
"Nice to meet you! This is Asher-"
"Are you two a couple or something" the Erudite boy interrupts
"Oh God No! I would hope not after all he is my brother!" Rosie says giggling
"So your twins?"
"Yes, how did you know?"
"It would be very unlikely for you to be in the same year if you weren't"
"I don't understand you look nothing alike" I say
"Hey smart-mouth, have you ever heard of the word fraternal?" The erudite boy says. I go silent. We sit in silence for half an hour or so then we notice people are starting to jump to the building that is parallel to the tracks. "What are they doing" Hemma asks
"What does it look like, they are jumping." The Erudite boy says. "Get ready guys!" I say. Hemma, Tabor, the stiff, and I stand up and walk to the wall furthest from the building. We get a running jump and land on the building. I land on my shoulder. Gravel digging into my skin I get up and brush it off. Then I see Rosie, Asher and the erudite boy jump off. Asher lands still holding Rosies hand, but Rosie is off balence at the very edge. As the erudite boy lands his hand pushes her chest and she stumbles off the edge. Luckily Asher has her hand and was able to keep her from falling to her death. There were some very deserved screams before, finally, Asher pulls her up. She runs to the middle of the building and Asher walks over to the Erudite boy. "What the hell man!" He screams
"What did I do?" The boy asks innocently
"Oh I don't know! You Freaking pushed my sister over a ledge?!" He swings at the boy and hits him square in the jaw. The boy swings back with the same amount of force. This leads to a fight. The first, I assume of many. Asher pushes the boy to the ground and holds him down punching his face. "Learn how to actually fight first please!" A man says walking up the stairs. He pulls Asher off of the boy. "Wow you have a lot of fight in you for an Amity. And you," he says looking at the erudite boy who was on the floor in a ball. He looks up and straightens our. "two things, one learn how to take a hit. Two, learn how to freaking fight back!" He steps up on the ledge. "I am Eric, one of the leaders of your new faction. Several stories below us is the members' entrance to our compound. If you can't muster up the will to jump off, then you don't belong here. We will give the initiates the privilege of going first."
