Even Playing Field - Part 2

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the teen wolf characters only my OC's and i'll take credit for this story. ENJOY :)

"Freshly made margarita's," Erica places the tray on the patio table, "Courtesy of my dad's liquor cabinet."

She hands each of the girls a glass and grabs one for herself. The gate slowly creaks open revealing a tall, muscular raven haired boy not much older than them.

"Um Erica, who is that?" Allison motions as the boy enters the shed to obtain the cleaning supplies.

A devious grin rises on Erica's face, "That my friends is my family's resident pool boy Derek Hale," she slides her sunglasses down the bridge of her nose to get a better view, "I've had the luxury of seeing him every Wednesday and Friday this entire summer."

"Oh my god he's so cute," Kira gawked.

Derek exits the shed carrying a hefty amount of equipment. He only made it a few feet before all of the items went tumbling to the ground.

Quickly Lydia downed her drink and ran over to help, "Here let me help-" as she went to reach for the long pole their hand softly collided sending a tingling sensation down her spine.

Instantly their eyes locked and it was as if the whole world around them had frozen.

"Thank you," the husky whisper fell from his lips bringing Lydia back to reality. She had a boyfriend and it was okay for her to be having "moments" with other guys.

"Sorry," she said while wrapping her hand around the pool stick, "Where did you want me to put this?"

A small smile arose on Derek's face as he noticed how uncomfortable Lydia had become. "You can sit it over there by the pool bar."

Awkwardly Lydia began in the direction of the pool bar. "Hey wait up," Derek rushed toward her holding out his hand, "I'm Derek by the way."

Lydia softly placed her hand in his, "I know…"

Without another word she slowly back away heading toward the pool bar once again. The small smile that had formed didn't leave her face until she was face to face with an irritated Erica Reyes.

"You three go, I need to talk to her alone."

Lydia swallowed hard as Kira, Malia and Allison walked away leaving the two of them alone.

"Listen closely alright, that boy over there is mine. If I ever catch you talking to him or even looking at him again so help me god I will end you, do you understand?"

"Loud and clear."

Lydia was frozen.

She had never seen Erica act like this and in all honesty she hoped to never see it again. Kira inched toward her with a concerning look in her eyes, "Hey are you okay? What just happened?"

"Nothing… absolutely nothing…"

...

The hallway leading up to the loft was damp and wreaked on mildew. There was no sign of anyone else living in the building and it was the perfect space for a serial killer to reside.

Lydia and Malia apprehensively approached the large industrial door leading to Derek's loft.

"Welp genius, got any ideas on how we're gonna get through a steel door," Malia questioned.

"Nope."

A puzzled look fell upon Lydia's face as she surveyed her surroundings. Suddenly she reaches into Malia's hair pulling out a bobby pin.

"Jesus, next time could you try not to pull my hair out," Malia watched as Lydia worked her magic on the lock, "I don't know why you're trying that because it's not gonna wor-"

A loud click rang in their ears as the lock opened, "When did you learn how to pick a lock?"

"At camp when I was ten," a devious smile fell upon Lydia's face as she gently twisted the knob opening the door.

Cautiously the girls stepped through the threshold of the loft leading to a dimly lit living room.

They were holding their breath afraid that if they made one wrong move all hell would break loose and their plan would go up in flames.

Lydia inched deeper into the house with Malia following closely behind, "Look for anything that seems out of the ordinary."

"Like what?"

"I don't know this is the first time I've ever broken into someone's house. You start looking over there and I'll look over here."

Malia did as she was told and headed toward the kitchen while Lydia scanned the living room. It was weird being at Derek's loft.

An aura of emptiness spread throughout the room sending shivers down their spines. Malia didn't know if it was her nerves, but she was shaken with fear.

Nothing really stood out in the kitchen, just a bunch of dirty dishes and a poorly stocked fridge. Malia turned around expecting to find Lydia snooping through the dining room, but she had vanished.

"Lydia…" she began to whisper, but there was no response. "Okay this isn't funny and I'm slightly terrified," she inched closer to what seemed to be Derek's bedroom only to find Lydia standing at his dresser.

"Malia look at this," Lydia ushered Malia over to look at the item laying in front of her.

In shock Malia gently ran her fingers across the photo of Derek holding Erica's stomach. She slowly picked up the photograph examining it closely. There was a small date printed in the corner of the photo and suddenly everything clicked.

"This was taken the weekend before Erica's disappearance," Malia glanced at Lydia, "This means that Derek was one of the last people to see Erica's besides us."

"And it means he's hiding something… something too important for anyone to know." a smile crept across Lydia's face. They had finally found something that could possibly link Derek to Erica's murder.

Malia proceeded to place the image in the pocket only to be stopped, "What are you doing," Lydia exclaimed.

"What do you mean, I'm taking the evidence so we have something against him."

"Yes, but if he finds out we snuck in here and took the picture he'll call the cops who we don't need them involved yet."

Malia rolled her eyes in frustration. She placed the picture on the dresser and took out her phone quickly snapping a picture of the evidence.

"Okay let's get the hell out of here before Derek comes back." Lydia nodded in agreement as they both rushed out of the front door. It wasn't until the door shut behind them that the girls glanced up noticing the camera on the was pointed at them.

They had been caught and there was nothing they could do.

As Kira inched closer to her destination her heart began to race. She was terrified of what would happen next but there was no turning back now.

Inhaling deeply, she pushed open the door. The stench of sweaty socks and desperation filled her nose as she nevigated herself through a sea of high school boys, "Sorry, excuse me, coming through."

Quickly she spotted the doe eyed boy from across the room, "Scott, can we talk?"

"You do know this is the guys locker room right?" Scott inched closer as a small smile fell on his lips.

A pained look caressed Kira's face causing an unsettling feeling to fall over Scott. "Guys could you give us a minute please."

The lacrosse player slowly began shuffling out of the locker room leaving Scott and Kira alone.

"What's up?"

"Scott we can't keep doing this."

"From what I recall we were not doing anything," he lifted his hand to softly caress Kira's cheek. Kira placed her hand on top of Scott's, "Scott stop."

"I care about you so much, but what this is we have going on has to stop," tears formed in Kira's eyes.

"Allison is my best friend and after what happened with us that summer-" her breath hitched, "My parents would never allow us to be together."

"We'll deal with you parents and Allison together, I love you Kira and all I want is for you to be happy."

Scott lifted Kira's chin so he had her full attention. He looked deeply into her eyes, "I'm never gonna stop fighting to make what we have work because I've never felt this way about anyone else."

"That's not the point Scott, we can't be selfish in this situation," Kira took one step back. "You have to understand that Allison is my sister, I lost her once and I can't let that happen again."

"At what point are you gonna start putting yourself first." Scott was right. Kira spends so much time trying to make everyone else happy, she tends to forget about her own happiness.

Scott sighed in frustration, "Us lying to Allison wont last long she's gonna find out sooner or later."

"Just please... can you please be patient with me."

Scott's hands cupped Kira's face as he pulled her in for a soft kiss. They pull apart slowly resetting their foreheads together.

"Kira I will wait for you no matter how long it takes."

Scott's lips brushed lightly against Kira's face, "See you out there on the field beautiful."

Kira couldn't stop the smile from falling on her lips. Scott made her happy and she wished for nothing more than to show that to the world, but she can't betray her best friend.

The girls mean the world to her and with everything going on now is not the time to be a divided group. Kira couldn't think about this any longer. She has a lacrosse game to focus on and right now that's all that matters.

...

"Thank you for coming down to the station with me Allison."

The room was dark and cold. The only people in there were Ally and Detective Stilinski, but she knew there were others behind the one way glass.

"I didn't have much of a choice sir," a nervous smile fell on her lips. "Excuse me if this comes off rude, but why am I here exactly."

There was a short silence. Allison knew this was hard for Stilinski and that only made things worse.

"Well sweetheart we've found some new evidence about Erica's case and it puts you in a difficult situation."

Allison's breath caught in her throat. She couldn't believe what was happening… her secret was finally about to come out.

"I… I was the last one of us girls to see Erica. I saw her slip out of the lake house that night, so I went after her."

There was a loud bang on the window that sent a chill up her spine.

"Allison, we know what weapon was used to kill Erica," Detective Stilinski was trying to get Allison to sweat and it worked.

"I didn't do anything."

Suddenly the door burst open revealing a very angry Chris Argent, "Allison you will not say another word until our lawyer gets here tomorrow."

She didn't know what to do… It felt like the walls were closing in on her and she couldn't find an escape. The police didn't know the whole story, she needed them to know the whole story.

"Allison, let's go," Chris demanded, pulling Allison from her seat.

Noah stood abruptly, "I'm sorry but you can't leave."

"Well by the looks of it you all don't have concrete evidence putting my daughter at the scene of the crime. Whatever the murder weapon may be, until you find it and test it for fingerprints I will be taking my daughter home."

Nothing else was said.

The Argents simply exited the interrogation room and headed for the parking lot. "Listen here Allison, when we get home you, your mother and I are going to sit down and have a long talk."

Victoria brushed Allison's tears away with her thumb, "You have to tell us everything sweetheart."

"Can we please not talk about it tonight, and plus it's the first lacrosse game tonight," Allison's eyes darted between her mom and dad, "Kira needs me to be there."

Chris was ready to object, but the look on Allison's face told him that tonight wasn't the right time to talk.

He opted to say nothing at all, just simply pulling his baby girl into a tight embrace. Wishing he could take all of her pain away.

...

Malia pulls into Beacon Hills High parking lot. Just as she begins making her way toward the lacrosse field, soft thumps of rain hitting the ground rang through her ears.

She locks eyes with Lydia who motions for her to come over. "What's going on? Why are we having a secret meeting in a not so secret place?"

"Well don't look at me, she hasn't said a word since I got here." Both Lydia and Malia look at Allison for answers.

The loud cheers of the crowd filled the stadium as the players began running onto the field.

"Shit the game's already started," Allison inhales deeply before finally speaking, " I guess I'll have to tell Kira everything later."

She pauses once more, "Detective Stilinski came to my house today to take me down to the station for questioning."

"What?" Lydia couldn't believe what Allison was saying.

Malia was shocked by what Allison just said but was confused as to why she was the only one questioned. The girls were soaking wet by the now heavy rainfall.

Allison took a deep breath before continuing, "They found new evidence in Erica's case the lead to a murder weapon."

A distraught look fell on Lydia's face, "This can't be happening, I just don't understand."

"Allison," none of what Allison said made sense to Malia, "Detectives don't just randomly take you down to the station for questioning."

There was an uncomfortable twist in energy among the girls. Malia knew Allison was hiding something from them, "There's something you're not telling us."

Inhaling deeply, Allison muscled up the courage to finally come clean about what happened that night.

"Fine I-"

A piercing scream echoes across the lacrosse field causing everyone to fall silent. The whisteles of the refs filled the girls ears as they immediately ran toward the field.

Coming to a halt Lydia, Malia and Allison couldn't believe their eyes. Laying in the middle of the lacrosse field unconscious was their best friend.

"Oh my god."
