The girl stretched and put her hand to her mouth to let out a small yawn. "Isabella!" A shrill voice called out. The girl turned around and pushed herself onto her feet, the grass was damp with morning dew, songbirds peacefully singing soft melodies. There are stories that people would fall asleep hearing them and then be murdered by the Elder. Creatures of the mist and shadows that can live for centuries.
"Coming!" The girl yelled back. She sighed and ran to the small wooden cottage near a river. She flung the door open and stomped inside.
"You got your dress dirty!" Her mother, a blonde-haired woman snapped at her, "Again.". The girl stuck out her tongue in an offensive way and walked into a small room with two twin-sized beds. She slipped off her dress to reveal white garments. Isabella pulled open a beaten up drawer and took out a light baby blue dress and pulled it over her shoulders to her waist. She stormed back out into the room where her mother was,
"Sit down. Supper is almost served." Mother said. Isabella sat down in a wooden chair and slumped.
"Isabella! What are the Four Rules!" Mother grumbled.
"Rule number oneā¦" The woman started.
"You do not leave the house without a man to accompany you," Isabella mumbled with her, twirling her finger in the air.
"Rule number two! A girl must not become a Warrior," They said again, in union.
"Rule number three, Women must be elegant and gentle. And most importantly, Rule number four. A female must never, Ever, under any circumstances must any female enter the castle, or join the king's guard." The woman smiled at the end of the rules.
"Good. Now go fetch your sister." The woman turned back to her cooking.
Isabella groaned and stood. She walked toward another door and peeked her head inside.
"Delphine! It's time for supper, Mother will be mad if you don't come." She opened the door a little more and the daylight from the windows of the house consumed the room. A little girl with flowing red-brown hair jumped up and bounded over to Isabella.
"Okay Bella!" Isabella hated that nickname, she hated her name too, It was not Warrior-like. She shook her head and walked out of the room. She sighed as she slumped over to the window. She looked out and saw massive green trees. Isabella looked further and saw a group of boys, dressed in armor, fighting each other with wooden swords. Her sister skipped out of her room after putting on a bead necklace and she and Isabella sat down at the table.
"Is supper almost ready?" She asked happily. Mother came over with a black pot and set it down on the table. Delphine picked up the large wooden spoon and scooped up some soup with a few turnips. Soft, fluffy bread was also served. We said our prayers and started to dig in. The soup was hot and Isabella gave a shriek as she burned her tongue. She immediately set down her spoon and grabbed the cup to her right, small and no gems that royals and Warriors did. She downed the water in seconds. She sighed and wiped her mouth with her handkerchief. Straightening her back she bent to blow on her soup to cool it down. She didn't get to even take a breath in as a man burst through the door. We all quickly sat up, terrified. He was completely dressed in iron plates of armor, Delphine whimpered and Isabella hugged her from behind tightly.
"Marioth Wimarc. You are requested at the castle. The king is in need of a new maid." The guard announced.
"No. My work was finished years ago!" Mother cried out, her face contorted in fear.
"If you refuse to come we will have to take you by force." He said. Our mother crossed her arms even as she trembled, knowing the consequences and glared at him. He nodded and soldiers flooded in with torches lit in their hands.
"You chose the hard way." The man dipped his head and grabbed Mother by her arm fiercely. He dragged her outside and the men inside the house threw the torches down. She could hear her mother crying distraughtly. Isabella turned around as she tried to find a place to flee to, knowing she couldn't save her mother. Hearing a scream she whipped around as she saw Delphine being taken a hold of. As another one tried to grab her, Isabella raised her arm to try to hit the soldier. She saw red as she felt a searing pain in her stomach. She tried to breathe but collapsed. She heard men speaking if they should kill her, their leader saying no. She saw a sword being held above her but before she could shout stop everything went black.
