I am really sick right now (I am praying it isn't COVID-19) and so I had to take 2 cough reliefs 2 painkillers and 2 pamperin to even be able to pick up a phone without feeling excruciating pain. I tried my hardest and hope you Enjoy!
BANG BANG BANG
I wake up to the sound of Four hitting the railing. I am still holding Tabor's hand. "Wake up and get ready! Be in the training room by eight!" Six yells. They walk out of the room. "Hey give it back!" I hear Hemma yell behind me. Jax has stolen her sheets. "If you are comfortable enough around us to sleep in your underwear then you should be comfortable to get down and changed. He is holding the blanket away from Hemma. "Screw you!" She says as she gets down from the bunk bed. The other two Erudite boys whistle and her face goes bright red. She grabs a black tank-top and jeans. She pulls on the tight-fitting clothing and climbs onto her bed. I get up and change into the same thing. I walk over and sit on her bed with her. "You okay?"
"I will be fine."
"I can report him to Four."
"No, I chose the bravery faction. I have to be brave."
"Okay." I say jumping down. "You know this will get out of hand if you don't."
"I can handle myself." I roll my eyes and sit at the foot of Tabors bed. He still hasn't woken up yet. "Hey." I say shaking him.
"Morning." He says rubbing the sleepiness from his eyes. He gets up and puts on some jeans and a tight black shirt that outlines his muscles. "How long have you been planning on dauntless?" I ask.
"Not until the aptitude test, why?"
"You look like you have been training for a while now."
"I worked out, but only because I needed something to keep my mind off things."
"Like what?"
"Just... things."
"Okay." I say I don't want to force him to talk about things he feels uncomfortable talking about. "Come on." I say jumping down and walking out the door.
"It's only 7:30. We have time."
"I know! I just want to get there early." He laughs.
"You don't think they are going to drill us hard enough?"
"Oh, I do. I just want to see what is going on." I explain I grab his hand and pull him up "come on."
"Fine!" He says pushing himself off the bed.
We walk in the hallway to the training room. Six and Four are in there setting up. They are placing guns on the tables and setting up punching bags. "We shouldn't bother them." Tabor says. He is right. I lean against a wall and we wait. At 7:45 Six opens the doors. "I see you two are ready!" She says
"Yes ma'am" we say together
"Come on in and line up against the wall." We do as we are told. The next people to come in are Jax and Lola. They are followed by Asher and Rosie. Right at eight the rest of the group shows up. Hemma stands in between me and the Stiff. While the other Erudite boys stand on the side on Lola. "Welcome to your first day of training!" Four says "in the next ten weeks you will be pushed to the breaking point. There will be three stages. The first stage is physical. You will learn how to use weapons and disarm your opponents. The second stage is emotional. You will be put under a simulation and face your worst fears. The final stage is mental. You will go into your fear landscape and will have to go through all your fears one after another."
"Don't forget to mention rankings!" A voice comes from the doorway.
"What rankings?" The boy on the far Right asks
"Each stage you will be ranked with the dauntless born. The people with the lowest rankings will have to leave dauntless." Now I can see who it is. It is Eric. He walks next to Four and Six.
"How come we weren't told this?" Jax asks
"Why? If you were would you have chosen differently? Out of fear? If that is the case you don't belong here." Jax's face hardens and Eric moves back to the center. He turns to Four and Six. "I think you can handle it from here." He walks out of the room. "Alright! Everyone grab a gun and go to a target!" Six yells. Everyone scrambles around trying to grab a gun. When everyone is at a target Four walks over to the empty one. "This morning you are going to be shooting guns." He shows us the correct stance to use and how to reload. After a while we get to start shooting. I reach for the gun. My hands start to shake. They shake not because of fear of the gun, but fear of myself. I wrap my hand around the gun and put my finger on the trigger. I stand exactly like how Four stood. My feet are shoulder width apart and my arms are away from me holding the gun. I practice my breathing just like how we were told to. "Take a shot already!" I hear Jax say his target is covered in bullet holes. He scoffs at mine which hasn't been touched yet. "Come on this is easy!" He is holding the gun up shooting a smile over to Six. I see Six look over at Four. He nods and she grins. She walks over and pulls the gun out of his hand. She aims the gun at his head and clicks a bullet into place. Jax straightens up immediately. His smile turns into a dead straight face. "You are holding a loaded gun you idiot! Act like it!" She says. He nods. "Yes ma'am. I understand."
"Do you?" She pushes the gun to his chest and walks away. I practice my breaths again. At the fifth deep breath I hold it in and shoot. The bullet hits just outside of the middle. I let the breath out and smile. I look over to Jax to see his face in absolute shock. I take a deep breath in again and shoot. This time I land in the lowest part of the circle in the middle. "Third times a charm" I mutter to myself. I plant my feet firmly on the ground and Take a deep breath in. Bang! The bullet hits the exact middle of the target. My smile is so wide now I believe the whole world could see it. Six walks over to me and I straighten up even more. Fear that she might scold me for smiling comes to mind. Instead she pats my back and looks up at me "good job!" She says with a smile. I look at the clock. It reads 9:00 We have only been shooting for thirty minutes. This is going to be a long day. We shoot for another two hours. Hemma hasn't hit the target and Tabor hasn't hit the middle. I walk over to Hemma and help her stand. Her legs were too close together. She tries again and this time only lands a foot away from the target. I watch her hands. Every time she shoots she flinches. "You can't be afraid of the gun." I tell her "when did you become a gun expert?" She asks I laugh. Try holding your breath while you shoot. It should help with the flinching. She goes back into stance and holds her breath. This time she hits the very outside of the target. "Good job!"
"What are you doing over here?" Four asks as he walks over.
"I am just helping her with her shooting." I reply
"That is my job. Why don't you go back to shooting." I look him in the eye. He is maybe three inches taller than me at most. "I am going to finish helping my friend." He looks at me. His face softens a tiny bit. Not much, but enough that a Candor could notice. From a young age we are taught to read faces. "Okay." He says. All he says is okay? I turn back to Hemma.
"Alright, let's work on your aim!"
"Can you please not do that again?"
"Do what?"
"Try to get yourself killed that's what."
"When did I try to get myself killed?"
"When you stood up to Four! I don't know if you know this, but I want you alive!" I laugh and shake my head "Try to shoot the target again." She does as I ask. I take notice that all her shots are left of the middle. "Try aiming to the right a little bit." I say. This time she aims to the right and the bullet hits the rim of the circle in the middle. I pat her back and smile "There we go! You did it! Keep working on your aim and you could hit the middle!" I walk back to my target and Four walks over to Hemma. Hemma straightens up as he examines the targets. "Anyone who has hit the target may go!" He yells. Everyone except for Lola and Rosie leave for the dining hall. I stay back just so that I can keep working on my aim. "You know you can go right?" I hear six say. I nod and keep shooting. Hitting the middle almost every time. She laughs as she walks over to Lola. She shows her how to stand and breathing techniques. I turn my head to the left to see Rosie shooting. Every time she takes a shot she scrunches up. I watch as Four walks over to her. He takes the gun from her and shows her how to do it. She gets into position and he hands her the gun. She shoots and flinches. This time she was almost an inch away. I turn back to my target and shoot. I watch as bullet after bullet hit the target. I finally hear a squeal and turn to Rosie. She had hit it! She hit the target! Just barely, but she did it! I walk over and hug her. I drag her past Lola who still hasn't hit a target. She shoots us a glare. We run out the door and head towards the dining hall.
"Hey! Where were you?" Bentley asks
"We were shooting" I say
