CHAPTER 5:
SEEKING RESCUE
Pepper thought of the time that Tony almost proposed to her and then had to fly off. Then he called
her an hour later informing her to come home, to say that she was mad was an understatement. Once
she got home and open the door her anger disappeared, she dropped her bag to the ground and her
mouth dropped. Tony had change the entire living room and dinning room into the restaurant. With one
table sitting in the dinning room and a single light and a candle lighting the table. The theme was
valentines day in paris. Pepper just looked at how beautifuly lit and decorated everything was. She
couldn't stop smiling at everything and looking at Tony. Everytime pepper smiled at the scenery and
huim, her smile got bigger.
Pepper: Tony, oh my god! This is amazing
tony: (smirks and steps closer to her) no, your amazing. This is just a change of scenery.
Pepper: never the less, this took a lot of effort
He led her to the table and pulled out her seat to sit down, she sat down and they smiled at each other
for a long time. Tony went to get the food and Pepper hoped that it wasn't like last time. It was
thoughtful but not the kind of food that pepper liked. Tony sat the trays down and Pepper waited until
tony sat down and lifted his lid to lift hers. She smiled from ear to ear when she saw her food, it was
chicken with shrimp, diced red potatoes marinated in butter and cilantro and asparagus with tomatoes,
onions, marinated in alfredo sauce. Pepper put her try to the side of her plate and picked up a fork.
Pepper: you made this?!
Tony: yes! Why?
Pepper: it's so amazing!
Tony: (smirks at pepper) everything I do is amazing.
Pepper: last time was not great, I appreciate the thought but I did not like that.
Tony: I know that now and i'm sorry.
Pepper: don't be, you have more then made up for that.
Tony: well (tony points to her food) dig in.
Pepper: honestly tony this is too much, you didn't have to do all of this.
Tony: really? So when you walked through the door you weren't going to kill me?
Pepper: yes I was but I would have been ok tomorrow.
Tony: really?
Pepper: I wouldn't be that mad because I understand you have to do what you have to do but...
Tony: I know... (he looks down at his plate) you worry about me.
Pepper: always but lets not ruin the mood. Lets enjoy our dinner.
Tony (looks up and smiles) yeah, let's.
Pepper and tony start enjoying their food, once the finishe Tony talks for an hours and finish up their wine.
Pepper: why is tonight so important?
Tony: every night with you is important and special.
Pepper: but you've never done all of this.
Tony: look, I know i've been flying off a lot and apologizing a lot and we haven't really talked about
it. I can't say that it won't happen again but I will say this, you are the only happiness that I have in my
life. The sun rises and sets on you face, you make me smile when smiling didn't seem possible. You
believed in me when I didn't, you saw the best in me even when I didn't think that part of me existed.
You called me on my shit everytime and I love it and I needed it, to pull me out of this hole I was in
and you removed this facade that I was hiding behind. You knew that I didn't want to be that person
anyone. You helped me out of something that I was comfortable being and you helped me be ok with
being just me. I wasn't ok with that for a long time but you prfered that said of me. You see the best in
people and you make people feel good about themselves, you are so kind, smart, beautiful, you have
such a big heart and you are so special. You are perfection wrapped in everything I have ever wanted,
needed and that not even my dreams could touch. I know that I'm not good enough for you but I hope
to spend my entire life, trying to make it up to you by showing you how much you mean to me. Even
if I never do, the biggest achievement that I would have in my life would be spending it with you. If
you say no, I would understand... just being with you is enough.
Pepper: I don't know where a long the way you lost your self respect, I don't know if you had it. I don't
know where you got it in your head or who put it there but you are so much more than me. You have
made me smile so many times. You have made me laugh on my most darkest of days. I love you tony
and I wanna be with you. I wouldn't be with you, if I wasn't totally engulfed in your love. You have the
biggest, kindest, most ginuine, sweetest, most giving of hearts and you don't expect or want anything
in return. Our love is the most important loves that I have ever had, no one has loved me the way you
have and I could never be with anyone as loving and just everything you've been. You are my
everthing, you are my world, when the flame goes out there will be no one else. Your heart is pure and
when I look into your eyes, I know that everything will be ok. Of course I will marry you. You are
enough. You are worth it. I am not too good for you, we deserve each other because our hearts found
each other and we owe it to ourselves to never break that bond again. When I say I love you and I
wanna be with you, when I saw you are my everything, when I saw you are a good men, person,
friend, husband and I wanna marry you, I mean that. Never belittle yourself again because you don't
deserve that and you mean too much to talk so little of youself. So yes! Anthony Stark, I will be your
wife.
Tony gets a huge grin on his face and he takes out the ring box, opens it and its a huge ring. Tony gets on one knee, takes the ring out of the box and places it on Pepper. She smiles as he places it on her finger, he smiles back at her and then continues to put the ring on. Once it's on, he goes to the kitchen to get the dessert and to call Rhodey and Happy.
Rhodey: hey Tony, what's going on!
Tony: she said yes!
rhodey: I knew she would but it took you guys long enough.
Tony: i'm so over the moon right now.
Rhodey: I can tell and I am soo happy too for you guys.
Tony: thank you, thank you so much.
Rhodey: all I know is that, I'm the best man at your wedding.
Tony: of course (tony smiles)
Rhodey: yes! I am so happy to be apart of this moment.
Tony: im glad to be in this moment with you. Love you man.
Rhodey: love you too man, catch you later.
Tony: ok, I will see you.
He hangs up with rhodey and calls rhodey.
Happy answers the phone
happy: it's late, so this better be good.
Tony: well, i'll late you be the judge of that.
Happy: ok but it better not be because your suit made you fall on your ass agin!
Tony (laughs) its not ok.
Happy: it better not be anything embarassing like Pepper tied you up and forget to let you down again.
Tony: ok, you don't have to say that over the phone, you don't know who's listening.
Happy: well whose listening?
Tony: I don't know but someone might!
Happy: ok. Dso maybe I should talk about the time that you were dressed like a female french. Or the time that you were covered in whip cream and Pepper was in your Ironman suit and you were stuck to the ceiling. Or the time you had that whip and Pepper was bent over and you were about to...
tony: ok! Ok! That's enough! I called to tell you that I proposed to Pepper and she said yes!
Happy: oh my god! And happened and I missed it, out all the times you call me and this is the one time that you don't! I mad, I am seriously mad! I wanted to be there!
Tony: can you calm down!
Happy: no! I can't calm down and I won't because I wanted to witness the moment. I very happy for both of you
tony: well, that's good to know
happy: well, I wasn't there.
Tony: Rhodey didn't act like this when I told him.
Happy: and you called me second?
Tony: here we go
happy: yes, here we go because you called me second and I wasn't there. How i'm I supposed to react to that.
Tony: like a stable human being
happy: I am very stable, it's you!
Tony: it's not me because i'm calm, your the one acting crazy.
Happy: i'm not acting crazy, i'm actually very rational.
Tony: ok, crazy.
Happy: i've been here since you first told me that you wanted to marry her and I clearly said " I wanted to be there" and you said ok! So what happened.
Tony: when I said that I didn't think that it was possible, it was just something I said and this just happened.
Happy: but you had time to plan, so you had time to call me. Anyway, make sure you remember to send me the invite.
Tony: I will.
Happy: love you man
tony: love you too man.
Happy: don't do that again thoughtful
tony: I won't.
Happy: good, I'll catch you later. I'll let you go back to your engagement (he says upset)
tony: ok I will. I love you happy!
happy: yeah, yeah apparently not enough.
Tony laughs
happy: bye
tony: bye. (Tony hangs up and walks back to Pepper)
she smiles as he sits down
pepper: I just got off the phone with my family, they are so happy.
Tony: so did I, they were happy too.
Pepper: it looks like were all set then.
Tony: yeah, everythings perfect.
Pepper is snapped out of her daydrem by the waiter bringing her, her food. She pulls the lid off and smiles, chicken with shrimp, red potatoes marinated in butter and cilantro with asparagus with diced tomatoes smothered in alfredo sauce. She ate her food in silence and when she finshed her food, she walked outside where she was met by her alternate universe self.
Pepper: what do you want?
Pepper:(alter uni) I came to see you and offer you a place to stay.
Pepper: last time I check you were pretty adament on getting me out of the house.
Pepper:(alter uni): i'm sorry.
Pepper: I don't care and I'm not interested.
Pepper:(alt uni): where are you gonna go?
Pepper: to a hotel
pepper: (alt uni) with my card?
Pepper: it's not your card, it's mine and I have cash.
Pepper:(alter uni) ok but it would be better if you stayed with me.
Pepper: not for me (pepper walks away)
pepper: (alter uni) i'm sorry ok, I was wrong! I'm truly sorry.
Pepper: dosen't matter
pepper:(alter uni) please, allow me to make it up to you.
Pepper: no, thank you.
Pepper:(alter uni) I am so proud.
Pepper: no, i'm not! I just don't want your help.
Pepper (walks off until she reaches a nice hotel and calls it a day. As soon as her head hits the pillow she falls asleep. She is woken up by a whirring sound, she jumps up in her bed when she sees herself in her rescue suit.) what the fuck! (she says as she pushes back in her bed)
rescue: don't give up on him, he needs you. You need to go to him but you have to build me first.
Pepper: why don't you just find and help him alternate universe me, why do you need me.
Rescue: I am you and you are the only one who can save him. Your his only rescue.
Pepper: that's so lame (pepper rolls her eyes)
rescue: I know but it doesn't change the fact that Tony is in danger! If you don't save him, he will die! Do you want that?
Pepper: of course not!
Rescue: ok then, go save him! Your not crazy, your not jealous or dillusional. He needs you and you have to save him, your the only one who can. Go! You need to find me
pepper: where are you?
Rescue: you need to hurry, please! It won't be much longer. If you don't hurry, we will lose him again. Find me and you'll save him!
Pepper: how? What danger is there?
Rescue: you'll know, just find me!
