Ah! If only you knew what your eyes tell me.

Time slowed.

Jean's blade clattered to the cement.

It was Kagome who dared to move against her emotions.

x

She whispered softly, as if she'd known him her entire life. "Jaeger...Jaeger..." She glanced backwards to Captain Levi, but he was staring at the burning titan form with a mix of confusion and anger. It was in that moment that Kagome caught the arm that emerged from the bubbling flesh.

A hand that was warm and clasped hers tightly.

She pulled him upwards.

x

It was then that everyone snapped into action. Eren came tumbling out of the large mass, landing heavily on her body. She steadied him and noticed that he appeared unscathed. Before she could say anything to him, Mikasa rushed forward and took the boy in her arms.

Kagome watched the interaction wearily before retreating backwards, her steps brisk. It was Jean's chest she bumped into. Upon seeing him, she studied his expression. "Are you alright?" She asked him, placing her palm on his chest, right above where his heart was beating.

It took him a while to nod. They were silent as Mikasa reunited with Eren and Armin cried with uncontrollable joy. It was something that was both lovely and horrifying. Kagome knew questions would be asked. Hard questions that she was certain would have no reassuring answers.

x

For a few minutes, there were only sounds of the young soldiers surrounding Eren, holding him and pinching themselves that he was indeed alive and breathing. Beyond where they stood, titans were still killing civilians and destroying homes. Yet, all they could do was feel grateful because in such hopelessness, they had found a ray of light.

Then a scream. "You murderer!"

Not a frightened one.

Captain Kitz Woermann along with numerous Garrison members. His team consisted of teenagers just like them and they gazed at their leader expectantly, waiting. Kagome's eyes moved from the frantic captain to the cannon that was aimed at Eren and the others.

She ran.

x

Her feet smacked against the tarmac. It was only in her rush that Eren glanced to her moving figure in alarm. His green orbs grew and she saw something like determination in them. Before she could even think about her next action, the boy seized her by her arm and tugged her to his chest.

Beside her, Mikasa stirred and Armin shouted.

A blast of smoke.

x

She watched his sleeping form and almost gasped. What was he? Were those...ears? She inched closer to the tall tree. He was lovely and not in a human way. She dropped her backpack to the grass.

There was something. Some sort of energy beckoning her forward. Telling her to reach the man.

She tightened her hands on the branches above her and grunted as she tried to reach him. When she eventually did, her fingers were red and her palms sweaty. The first thing she noticed was the way he smelled. Like pine and cinnamon. Pursing her lips, she hesitantly dragged her fingers through his silky hair.

Who was he?

He was beautiful.

She didn't realize how close she was to the arrow that protruded from his chest. Was he dead? Her heart froze and she had to snap her focus away from him. She needed to go home. To Sota.

A pulse. Throbbing and nearly shaking her to the ground.

Sneering, she heard a voice, "Are you gonna stay useless, Kikyo?"

x

Her eyelids opened to find Eren, Mikasa, and Armin peering down at her, their faces etched with worry. Surrounding them was a darkness she couldn't understand.

It was Eren who spoke first. "Are you okay?"

She couldn't speak. Her shoulders rose and fell. Her breathing was ragged. "You were calling out to someone..." Eren hesitated for a moment, his eyebrows drawn.

She didn't reply. She took his hand and he pulled her to her feet. She nearly stumbled when she tried to figure out where they were. She could see villages and homes. She could even catch slivers of light that indicated it was still late afternoon.

"Where are we?"

It was Armin that stepped forward, his fists tight. "We know just as much as you do. But-" He turned to Mikasa, who gave him a nod to continue. "Eren bought us some time. We don't know how long, but once we're out of here, we'll be killed."

x

Kagome was quiet as the three companions spoke to one another, planning how they would somehow convince the other regiments that Eren wasn't an enemy. Her mind was racing. She didn't know exactly why. There was something so eerie about having another one of her nightmares, but while she was totally awake.

She cleared her throat. "Who was I calling for?" Her voice was tender and perplexed.

Mikasa placed her hand on her shoulder. It was meant to be supportive, but Kagome was already sick to her stomach. "It was Inuyasha."
