In Season 2's premiere "The Fisher King," Elle Greenaway was hospitalized from getting shot and Gideon was at the hospital waiting for her surgery results. Meanwhile Morgan, Hotch and Reid went to the address that Diana Reid had provided them to find Randal Garner and his daughter, Rebecca. Diana was left at Quantico. Spencer asked Garcia and JJ to keep an eye on Diana until he returned.
"Where's my son?" asks Diana.
"Uh, he went to the house in the photo you gave us to find your neighbor, Randall Garner," said Garcia.
"Randall," said Diana. "He's such an emotionally disturbed man. Do the two of you know my Spencer?"
"Yes, ma'am," smiled JJ. "My name is Jennifer Jareau, but you can call me JJ."
"JJ?" said Diana. "Spencer has written to me about you. He said you are a very efficient worker and a beautiful young lady. He said he loves that you've nicknamed him 'Spence,' and that you collected butterflies as a child in Pennsylvania and that you are a huge Redskins fan and that he took you out to a Redskins game recently."
Garcia laughs.
"Yes, ma'am," blushed JJ. "Thank you. Uh, this is my friend and colleague, Penelope Garcia."
"Garcia?" said Diana. "Spencer has written to me about you, too. He said that you are another resident genius and that if there is anything he needs to know about any bad person online that you are the person who he would ask. He said that you are a Tetris champion, and that you don't like a lot of people surrounding your personal space, but you would make an exception for one agent named Derek Morgan."
JJ laughs.
"Yes," blushed Garcia. "I am a fellow genius, a Tetris champion and, yes, I would make an exception for Agent Morgan."
JJ received a phone call from Gideon in the hospital.
"Gideon?" said JJ. "That's great! Thank you for letting me know, sir."
JJ and Garcia left Agent Anderson with Diana in the round table room for a minute.
"Elle's going to be okay," smiled JJ. "She's in recovery."
"Oh, thank heavens," said Garcia.
"Mrs. Reid is amazing," said JJ. "I can see where Spence got his brilliant mind from. I didn't know that he told her all of those things about me. I feel so flattered."
"Yeah, me, too," said Garcia. "He wrote letters to her about all of us. But unfortunately, that's how 'Sir Kneighf' knew all of those things about us. Diana Reid inadvertently told Garner all of those things about us."
"I thought you said that he was a patient in the Bennington Sanitarium in Nevada," said JJ.
"I did," said Garcia. "And Diana Reid is too. Reid just flew her here from Nevada to identify Randall Garner's voice in that quest disc that he gave us. She has schizophrenia, Jayje."
"I didn't know that," said JJ.
"Yeah," said Garcia. "Reid is worried that he'll have schizophrenia some day. He told me it is genetically passed on from parent to child."
"Oh, poor Spence," whispered JJ.
"Yeah," said Garcia. "He took care of her alone until he was 18, and then he moved her into Bennington. Is his father dead?"
"I don't know," admitted JJ. "He knows more about us than we know about him. I'm going to change that when he returns."
"Me, too," said Garcia.
Garcia and JJ stayed with Diana until Hotch, Morgan and Reid returned.
