One Shot
Otto was light on his feet and incredibly happy. Why? Because he had a certain item in his left pocket. A woman waiting for him just up the street. He could see her from where he stood. The cafe was gorgeous this time of year. The cherry blossoms fluttered down, landing all around her. As he walked up and sat down in his own seat. A seat that had been his spot since they were 13 and began to frequent the cafe every Tuesday for their hot fudge sundaes. What better place to ask her then the place they loved to go to together.
He looked up into her green eyes. Eyes she inherited from her father. She blushed and looked back down at her latte. Something warm to drink after eating something cold. It was who she was. Someone sweet, and sometimes bitter. Never afraid to tell you what was on her mind. It was what he loved most about her. No secrets, no worries, and OMG that smile.
Reaching out very slowly she took Otto's hand and looked around at the boardwalk to the beach. It wasn't hot at all. Perhaps a simple w...what was that?
Persephone felt a very small item in Otto's hand. She turned her head to look at him looking out at the ocean. The wind whipped just slightly causing his bangs to land on his forehead perfectly. She slowly lifted her hand to see the very small trinket in his hand. The look of surprise on her face was adorable to Otto.
The ring wasn't much, but it was personal to him. With his mother's permission he took her ring and ran. This ring mattered so much to them. His father saved three paychecks to get it. Placed it on her hand, and his sister tried to steal it. If it weren't for this ring they wouldn't have gave chase and met her. Adopted her. Started a family together. He had to have it resized of course since his mother is rather small compared to the tall earth master in front of him. But the ring slid onto her hand perfectly. Everything about her was just so...perfect.
They did get to walk on the beach.
Eight years went by
Persephone sat down in front of Borg. His grey and black peppered hair was in a pony tail behind him as he tapped away at the keys. He looked up at the machine that had the embryo in it. A piece of herself and Otto. She had been told on many occasions that Otto was a rainbow baby. This process was a bit more drastic, and painful. She didn't expect it to work at all. But this time they had something Danny didn't. The woman stood on the other side of the incubator. Otto's cousin Danika smiled as she nodded her head. There was a stable heart beat...but all of the sudden it was as if the heart beat began to have an echo. Danika looked baffled for a moment before her face broke into a huge smile.
"Borg!" She practically screamed as the embryo broke in two. Borg threw his hand down on the arm rest.
"Damn! I thought we had it this time!" He growled out turning away. But he looked confused at the look on Danika's face as she continued to tap at the keyboard.
"Oh no no...we succeeded Borg...that's not a breakaway...that's a twin." She smiled pulling the headphone jack from the computer. The room was filled with not only one heart beating, but two.
"Perfectly alive and well. We'll have to keep an eye on them still. But this is as stable as I've seen it." He turned to look at Otto who had his head in his hands for most of it. But the shocked look on his face caused Borg to chuckle.
"My first successful clone has children of his own. How brilliant." He chuckled, clapping Otto's shoulder. He, like his mother didn't tell anyone about what they were doing for fear of the same thing happening to him. Yet here he was...here they were...such perfection as he sat there and watched that incubator.
On the second day Danika bumped him away and whispered.
"Come see." She whispered so not to wake up Borg who had once again fallen asleep at his desk.
Otto and Persephone got up and followed Danika. The baby's heads seemed to have started to grow tiny tufts of hair. One black, the other blond.
"Lookit." Danika pointed toward the babies. "The one with black hair is a boy. The other is a girl." She giggled. Otto smiled and leaned forward doing the most dad thing he could ever do.
"Oh look at you. I see you." Persephone then noticed that the little boy had its eyes opened watching. It seemed to pull in tighter.
"Awww he's scared."
"Well with him wearing grandpa's smile I can see why." Danika laughed and Otto blushed and bumped his cousin.
On the third day the room was full of not just Otto's family. But the ninja. Persephone lost her mother at child birth so her father was the one standing behind her looking over the incubators. With a soft hiss they popped opened and the liquid fell into the trains. Loud crying could be heard from one of the infants. But the others not so much. The little girl seemed to just watch. Borg however didn't look pleased. He reached over and touched her with his cold hand and the little girl screamed. The boy's hand came down and hit Borg's hand.
"Wow…" Otto looked shocked. "Not as shy as I thought." He looked up at Cole who had a look of surprise on his face.
"I think he broke it…" Borg hissed in pain showing it to Zane. Pixal had long since passed on.
Zane chuckled.
"Seems to be fractured Mr. Borg. May want to retreat to the hospital area." He began to wheel the man into the elevator. Luna, Zanes adopted daughter trailed behind.
Ten Years later
Kira watched her aunt with interest. Danika put the DNA and algorithms into the incubator and stood back. Tapping at the keyboard again she smiled.
"Alright if this goes good then in a few days you'll have a little brother or sister." Borg had died the year after Kira and Omino were born. Danika now owned Borg industries alongside Zane. Danika really didn't want the company, but Zane didn't want it either. But they didn't want to give it to the grubby person that wanted to buy it and liquidate all that Borg had created. That would mean the police force old and new. That would mean Cryptor and Mindroid. That was something neither wanted. As far as it was considered Luna and Jimmy were in direct line to inherit after.
Omino stood up to look over his sisters shoulder.
"Wow...we were created in that?" He whispered looking at his aunt who nodded.
"Oh yes. Your dad looked...pretty similar to that." She pointed to the way Otto was sitting with his head in his hands. "Oh stop it." She giggled sitting back down to tap at the keyboard again.
Kira put her head on her brother's shoulder. A soft pop and Kino held up cards.
"Hey a pop...wanna play some cards?" He held up the deck. Otto looked up and chuckled.
"Yeah okay." Kino dealt out the cards to play go fish.
The night of the second day there were explosions everywhere. Otto stood by the elevator door. He wasn't the brown ninja by no means. His arm cannon was smoking and there was a hole on the other side of the open door. Danika had both kira and omino on the other side of the desk pulled close. Danika's cell phone was open. Not totally sure if she'd be okay after today. She couldn't use her ink the way her mother could. She was scared to bits. She couldn't hear her mother or father talking. She knew her uncles were on the ground floor trying to help to get to them.
Percephone stood on the other side of the incubator. Danika could hear her fathers scream of pain before he hit the window and crashed to the floor in a heap. Percephone activated her lava arms turning to the elevator. The woman standing in the doorway held up a vengestone sword and smiled at her. One clean sweep of the blade hit her. Causing her to hit the floor. The sound of glass hitting the floor and an infant crying caught Danika's attention. Pushing the twins into the back of the desk pushing herself from her hiding spot running at the woman who was trying to get the blade from Persephone.
Danika's wasn't sure what happened next. All she knew was the the infant was in her arms and there was a long black spike that melted from her hands. The woman that had the sword lay dead on the floor.
Danika couldn't think about that now. The infant couldn't breath. She ran over to the tank realizing it was broken she fished something out of the drawer and placed it over the infants mouth. He was the equivalent of a 30 week old within the womb. He was going to have a hard time breathing.
"Persephone!" Otto must have just woken up. Running over scooping her lifeless form up in his arms. The roar of agony echoed within the room. "Danika do something…" He begged. He looked at the woman pleading with her. She shook her head.
"I am doing something." Danika swallowed hard. "I can not save Persephone. There is nothing I can do for her. She's lost too much blood. But your son is here still and I am doing what I can to save what she fought to protect. I refuse to let her die in vain." Otto looked down at his wife and shook his head. He looked up when he felt a hand on his.
Saying goodbye was never an easy thing. Now he understood just what his mother had gone through all those years ago when his father died.
"Otto!" The elevator dinged and in ran the ninja. One in particular seemed to slow to a stop and gather his daughter into his arms. Pulling Otto to him and crying. Not much else he could do.
Several hours later after Persephone was placed into another room. Cole and Otto sat down on a couch. Cole looked angry, sad, and lost
"Why?" Cole asked Otto. Otto didn't answer. Cole shot Otto a look before grabbing his front. "Why didn't you save her!" He pulled back to punch Otto. He didn't move. He felt the arms around him to try to get the large earth elemental to stop.
"For him!" Danika yelled walking over with the only blanket she could find. Otto's Gi jacket. "She died protecting him." Cole looked down at the infant in her arms.
"I've named him Ryder." Zane smiled up at Cole. "It would seem the melding dragon took a liking to him and won't leave him alone." Malt padded after the ink master.
Cole reached down to pick up the infant from Danika's arms and seemed to melt back onto the couch.
"She is and will always be a hero to us." Otto told Cole. I won't fault her for what she did. She did nothing wrong. Such a perfect woman...giving us perfect gifts to keep as she's left." Otto looked up at Zareth who pulled him into a hug. Having let go of Cole after trying to keep him from Otto.
"Ah she's still here kiddo. She's in them. You'll just have to teach the kid who she was." He kissed the top of the boys head.
"I mean you did a good job when mom died with me." Otto told him.
"Nah I did a bad job." Zareth laughed.
Malt curled up on the couch peeking over Coles large arms at the infant. Her loud purrs filled the room. Yes...this was her boy. She would love him, for always. He would need her. She leaned up and licked his hair back. His her pulled back in a perfect quap.
"Hey!" Cole barked out. "Someone get the dragon please." Zane reached over to grab Malt only for Malts fur to poof out and a loud growl and a loud squeaky roar echoed in the room.
"Oh Cole...I don't think he wants to."
"Ah the guardian...I think she's claimed him." Zareth chuckled.
Malt turned back around and nuzzled up to Ryder. [Yes you are my boy. One day...we'll show them why.]
