Unfulfilled life of Deku
Izuku was walking home whit a sad look on his face. He had just witnessed his idol, All Might, turn into a weak and frail man. In addition, All Might had told him he couldn't become a hero without a quirk. It wasn't the first time Izuku had been told to give up, but it was definitely the one that had the most effect on him. He heard an explosion in the distance and became excited for a second, but the feeling quickly stopped when he remembered what All Might had told him. He decided it wasn't worth it anymore. What would he do with his analyses anyways, there was nothing he could do.
Subconsciously Izuku ended up walking to the source of explosions anyways. Since he had walked there he decided to see what the situation was. Izuku saw the sludge villain who had attacked him earlier. 'Didn't All Might capture him? How could he have escaped?' Izuku thought to himself before realising what had happened. "I caused this" He said quietly to himself. The hostage then released a big explosion that allowed Izuku to see his face. "Kacchan" Izuku said to himself. He was about to run and help his bully but stopped. 'What can I do? It's my fault the villain is free right now. I'll only make it worse' He thought to himself and looked down in defeat.
Suddenly, All Might charging at the villain and punched it away with a single punch. The punch was so powerful that it started to rain. Izuku looked at the victorious hero in amazement. 'All Might was right. I stand no chance against such evil. I can finally live a normal life' Izuku thought to himself as he walked back home, letting go of his dream.
"I'm home" Izuku called out when he came back. Inko came running at Izuku and hugged him in a tight hug. "I was so worried! I saw the news about that villain and was afraid you got hurt. I'm just happy you are alright" She said. "Mom?" Izuku said. "Yes Izuku?" she asked. "I don't want to be a hero anymore. I want to live a normal life" He said. "What made you change your mind?" She asked and let go of him. "I guess I just realized that I didn't want to be a hero anymore" Izuku replied. "That's good to hear. Now I know you will be safe" Inko said. "I'll go and make katsudon" She said and went to the kitchen. "I can't wait" Izuku replied and walked into his room and turned on his computer so that he could change his high school application.
After the incident Bakugo didn't bully Izuku nearly as much as he used to. If it was because of what happened, Izuku changing his application to the general education course or something else was hard to say. The other classmates continued, but even they didn't bully Izuku as much as before. Life was getting better for Izuku.
After 10 months Izuku was standing at the gates of UA ready for his entrance exam. The hero course test had been earlier that day and those who had applied was now leaving the campus. Izuku accidentally ran into Bakugo while admiring the building. "I-I'm sorry Kacchan!" Izuku blurted out while flailing his arms around. "Tch. Just stay out of my way Deku" Bakugo said and walked away without another word. Izuku then realised that he was getting late for the exam and hurried up.
Two weeks later a letter from UA arrived. Izuku already knew that he had passed the exam since he checked the answers himself when he got home. When he opened the letter there was a small disk that fell out and then a projection off Cementoss. "Izuku Midoriya, you passed the test with flying colours and have been accepted into the department general education. Congratulations" He said, and the projection disappeared. Izuku then picked up the letter saying which class he got into and who his homeroom teacher and classmates were. "Cementoss is my homeroom teacher. Cool" He said to himself as he read the letter.
Izuku's experience with UA was an improvement from his former school. Although, it wasn't so difficult. His classmates quickly found out that he was quirkless. They didn't bully him, but they didn't socialize with him either, so he ended up being alone for most of the time. There was one student he somewhat socialized with. His name was Shinso and he had messy purple hair. The only reason they sometimes talked with each other was because they both knew how it was to be told you couldn't become a hero. The only difference being that Shinso hadn't given up.
It was a few days after some villains had managed to attack class 1-A at the USJ, that Izuku and Shinso had one of their conversations. They had just been informed of the incoming sports festival. "So, you want to attempt to enter the hero course during the festival?" Izuku asked. "Of course. It's the best chance anyone gets at joining the hero course. Class 1-A apparently only has 19 students this year. Meaning that there is a vacant spot. I think it'll be fairly easy. I'll go check out the competition later today" Shinso replied. "I hope you succeed. I'll be rooting for you" Izuku said. "Thanks" Shinso responded and they both fell silent for the rest of the lunch.
During the sport festival Izuku didn't even make it to the second event. He ended up in 84th place which was expected since he didn't really try to begin with. For the rest of the festival Izuku was rooting for Shinso. He made it to the third round in the battle tournament where he faced Bakugo and was immediately blown off the arena with no chance of brainwashing his opponent. When Izuku saw the only person, he talked with in the entire school receiving a bronze medal from All Might himself he was certain Shinso would achieve his dreams.
A few days after the sports festival Shinso was transferred into the hero course which made Izuku a bit sad since he no longer had someone he could talk to. One day while Izuku was walking through the hallways of UA he saw All Might in his true form. He walked over to the hero, so he could talk with him. "Hey All Might" Izuku said and made said person flinch. "Why did you-" All Might asked before realising who Izuku was. "Oh, it's you, the quirkless kid. Listen, I know I was a bit blunt when I talked to you back then, but I hope you understand why I said that" He said. "I understand. I wanted to thank you actually. You stopped me from doing something stupid and allowed me to try and achieve more realistic goal. You're probably busy, I'll go now" Izuku said. "I'm not busy right now, but it was nice talking to you again" All Might said, and they walked away in opposite directions. Izuku turned around one last time and noticed that Shinso was talking with All Might. "What are they talking about?" he asked himself.
Nothing new happened to Izuku for the next few months. He didn't talk to anyone in his class while staying at the top of the class when it came to grades. Before he knew it the first semester was done, and he was spending time home with his mom. In the middle of the summer there was an incident regarding UA. The hero course students were at a training camp and had been attacked by villains. Many of them got injured and one had been kidnapped.
The heroes then put together a raid against the league of villains and everything was going well until an unknown villain appeared. The villain was almost playing around with All Might, deflecting the attacks with seemingly no effort. Izuku watched in horror as the symbol of peace reached his limit and turned into his true form. After several minutes of All Might barely holding the villain at bay, he managed to knock out the villain with all off his strength.
The day after All Might retired and the day after that Izuku quit UA and applied to a quirkless high school. The reason he applied to UA to begin with was so that if he wanted to become a hero again he could change courses. Now however, he didn't want to become a hero at all.
After Izuku had sent in the application he decided to take a walk. He ended up at Dagobah beach. It had been used as an illegal dumping site for years, but recently there had been someone that was cleaning it up. It wasn't done yet, but it was definitely much less garbage now. Izuku was about to head back when he heard someone talking. He didn't pay much attention to it to begin with, but he thought they sounded familiar, so he decided to see who it came from.
When Izuku turned around a garbage pile he accidentally ran into Shinso. "I'm sorry! Wait, Shinso?" Izuku asked, not expecting the purple haired boy at this place. Izuku then looked at the other man and immediately recognised him. "All Might? What are you two doing here?" He asked. "W-well young Midoriya. We..." All Might said. "You can tell him All Might. I trust him" Shinso said cutting of the hero. "If you say so. The reason I'm training Shinso young Midoriya, is because I want him to become my successor. I want him to inherit my quirk" All Might explained.
"Inherit... your quirk? Is that even possible!?" Izuku asked, not quite believing the hero. "My quirk is a secret only known to a few individuals. So you must keep it secret" All Might said, emphasizing the last part. Izuku gave a quick nod before All Might continued. "My quirk is called one for all. The power to pass down power. One user cultivates the power and makes it stronger before giving it to the next user. I judged Shinso worthy of becoming the ninth holder" All Might said with vigour. "I see. I'll keep it a secret. Good luck Shinso. I must go home. Goodbye" Izuku said wand walked back home.
The following years were some of the best Izuku had had. The quirkless school he applied for accepted his application and he began after the summer vacation. It was a boarding school, so he had to move away, but he visited Inko regularly. For the first time in his life he felt welcome. He wasn't looked on as different or disabled and he even made several friends.
Eventually three years had passed, and he graduated. Now he had to find a job, the only problem being that it was hard when you were quirkless. Employers preferred people that had quirks suited for the profession. Accounting jobs wanted intelligence quirk, police wanted lie detector quirks and so on.
In the end Izuku got a job for a small line of grocery stores in Tokyo. The pay wasn't much, but it was enough to support him. Meanwhile his childhood friend Bakugo was climbing the hero rankings with incredible speed, becoming number one after one year. Shinso was also doing quite well as a hero, reaching the number two spot after a year and a half. Izuku was happy for them and kept on living his normal life in his rundown apartment.
One day while Izuku was closing the shop he suddenly heard a commotion a few blocks away. He hurried up and made his way over to the commotion. After all those years he still made notebooks on new heroes and their fights.
When Izuku got there, he wasn't disappointed. Several of the biggest hero were there and fighting the villains. Uravity, ranking number 25, was sending debris flying towards the villains using a pillar and her quirk. Red riot, the number 14 hero, acted as a protective shield for his teammates as well as punching down villains left and right. Ingenium, the number 9 hero, was attacking villains with incredible speed using his recipro burst. Shoto, the number three hero, knocked out the villains using his flames or restricted them using his ice. Hitoshi, the number two hero, who had also just used his name, brainwashed villains for the other heroes to handle and attacked others using one for all.
Izuku was looking the scene with an almost childish amazement. Then he heard a familiar voice. "HOWITZER! IMPACT!" Ground zero, the number one hero, yelled as he literally came blasting into the battle. The explosion released from his special attack, knocked out almost all off the villains and Ground Zero was quick to knock the out as well. The crowd was silent for a short while before they erupted in applause, including Izuku.
While the heroes were talking with their fans Izuku started heading home, happy that his childhood friend achieved his goal. Meanwhile, Bakugo was signing autographs when he noticed a familiar mop of green hair walking away. He stood still, not paying attention to what was happening around him. "Deku?" He asked silently, while thinking back to the last time they met. When Izuku crashed into him at the UA entrance exam. "Ground zero?" a fan asked, pulling Bakugo back into reality.
When Izuku came back to his apartment he immediately slumped down on the couch. It had been nice seeing the heroes fighting, but it still had been a long day of work. "Wish I could get another job, but I'm always turned down because someone with a quirk showed up" Izuku complained out loud. "At least the boss is nice" He said and got out of the couch and walked into the small kitchen. He found some instant ramen and started preparing it in one of his two cooking pots. While the food was cooking he found a bowl and a pair of chopsticks.
After a few minutes the ramen was ready and Izuku poured it into the bowl and sat back down on the couch. "Wish I could have katsudon more often" He said as he began eating. Right before he took the first bite there was a knock on the door. 'Who can that be? Mom isn't supposed to visit this week. Someone must have knocked on the wrong door' Izuku thought to himself and went back to his meal. Before he could do that, the person knocked on the door again, harder this time.
Izuku decided to check who it could be. After all, what's the worst that could happen. He opened the door and saw someone he never thought he would talk to again. "KACCHAN!" Izuku yelled in surprise. "SHUT UP DEKU! I don't want to attract any attention. The paparazzi can be annoying as hell" Bakugo retorted. "S-sorry" Izuku said sheepishly. "So- can I come in?" Bakugo asked. "Yes. O-of course" Izuku stuttered out and moved aside so that Bakugo could get in.
"I-I haven't c-cleaned up i-in a while. I d-don't get any visitors e-except from mom" Izuku said nervously while scratching the back of his neck. "I get it, but you really live in this crappy apartment? I thought you would get a bit further in life at least. And stop stuttering! It's annoying" Bakugo responded. "Sorry. Anyways, I tried getting a better job, but there was always someone with a suitable quirk that got the position instead. I work at the grocery store a few blocks away. The pay isn't much, but it's enough and the boss is nice" Izuku explained. Bakugo then noticed the food Izuku was eating. "You're eating that cheap crap?" He asked. "As I said, the pay isn't much. So, how is your jo-" Izuku said, but was interrupted when Bakugo grabbed his arm and started dragging him out. "What are you doing!?" Izuku asked in shock. "I'm taking you to a proper restaurant! That's the least I can do. We can talk more when we get there" Bakugo said and dragged Izuku out the door.
Bakugo ended up taking Izuku to one of the fanciest restaurants in the city. The staff immediately recognised Bakugo as the number one hero Ground zero and quickly prepared a table. When Izuku saw the prices, his jaw dropped. "Some of this dishes costs as much as my rent. Kacchan, I can't afford this" Izuku said once he had regained his composure. "Don't worry, I'll pay. I earn enough as a hero" Bakugo replied. Then a butler came and took their orders. Izuku ordered Katsudon while Bakugo ordered some extra spicy curry.
"So, how is your hero career doing?" Izuku asked. "If you're just half the hero fan you used to be you should know the answer" Bakugo retorted. "Of course. Then, how is it like? Being the number one hero and all?" Izuku asked. "I'm not quite sure" Bakugo said, giving Izuku a confused look. "I have done what I have always said I would do" Bakugo continued "But now I don't know what I should do next. I was always so focused one becoming the number one hero, the richest, the most famous and so forth that I didn't think about what I should do if I achieved that goal. I talked about this to All Might and he told me I should work for something bigger than myself like he did as the symbol of peace. I just don't know what would be right for me" He explained.
After Bakugo had finished talking the food had arrived. "Enough about me. What have you been doing?" He asked as he began eating his food. "Normal, I suppose. I was in UA general education for a few months. People didn't talk with me because I'm quirkless. After All Might's fight with All for one I transferred to a quirkless school where I got friends and finished my education and now I'm here, talking to you" Izuku explained and began eating as well. "This is delicious, but nothing compared to what mom makes" Izuku commented while devouring the food.
The two sat in silence and ate their food. When they both had finished Bakugo decided to break the silence. "Listen, Deku" He said and let out a dep sigh. "I did and said some bad things, especially to you. I want you to know that I have changed. I'm no longer the hothead I used to be, alright? So that is why I want to apologize for how I treated you when we were younger" Bakugo said.
Izuku stared in disbelief and then started to cry. "Don't cry on me in public!" Bakugo snapped. "Damn paparazzi" He muttered angrily under his breath shortly after. "S-sorry" Izuku said and wiped away the tears "Guess I'm still a bit of a cry baby. But really, it's nice to hear. Plus, I think you helped me do something better with my life rather than chasing an impossible dream" Izuku said with a small smile. Bakugo seemed like he wanted to say something, but he stopped himself.
After a while Bakugo had to leave for some hero work. "I have to go. It was nice seeing you again though. Goodbye" He said and left. "Goodbye Kacchan" Izuku said back and began walking home. When he came home he put the ramen he had prepared earlier in the fridge and went to sleep.
A few days later Izuku was working in the cash register. It was very few people at this time of the day, so he didn't have much to do. He heard someone who entered but didn't pay much attention until the person walked right up to him. "Kacchan! What are you doing here?" Izuku exclaimed. "Didn't I tell you to calm down a few days ago? I just wanted to see where you worked. It's pretty shit to be honest" Bakugo responded, making Izuku let out a nervous chuckle.
"There was also another reason I came here" Bakugo said and took a deep breath. "Come work at my hero agency" He said, more like an order than an offer. "What!? I-I can't do that! I-I'm quirkless. I d-don't want to work as a hero" Izuku blurted out. "Come work for me. You can do that, you don't need a quirk and you won't be doing hero work anyways. You'll help me run the entire thing. The current person who is supposed to that kind of suck. I'll also pay you much more than what you are earning right now" Bakugo explained. "I don't know Kacchan. I just feel like I don't deserve it" Izuku said nervously. "You don't deserve it, you've earned it. I must repay you in some way for everything I did to you and a single dinner isn't gonna cut it. I won't leave until I get a yes" Bakugo said, clearly not changing his view. Izuku thought over it for a while before hesitantly responding "Alright, I'll work for you. I just need to finish this shift and inform my boss" He said. "That's what I like to hear!" Bakugo exclaimed. "Meet me outside my agency at 10 o'clock tomorrow. I'm sure you know where it is" He said and left.
The next day, Izuku had quit his job at the grocery store and met Bakugo at his hero agency. It was a skyscraper covered in glass that had been finished just a year prior. Izuku quickly became used to his new job and position. He earned much more than before, and it wasn't long until he could afford a much better apartment. A few months after he was hired, Bakugo convinced Izuku to let him train him, just in case. Two years after that, Izuku received the biggest surprise of his life for his birthday.
"K-Kacchan. How did you-? Why did you-?" Izuku asked as he looked in shock on the hero licence he held in his hand. "It's your birthday gift. I pulled a few strings to make it happen, but you are now an official hero. Although, part of the agreement was that you had to work as my sidekick for a while. Now open the rest of the present" Bakugo said with a genuine smile. Izuku did as he said and opened the suitcase that was in the present and got even more shocked. Inside was tons of support gear as well as a hero costume. He pulled out the costume and looked at it. "This is just like the one I drew when I was younger. How did you find out about it?" Izuku asked. "I talked with Inko about it" Bakugo replied. "She knew!?" Izuku exclaimed. "Yep!" Bakugo replied with a grin. "I don't know what to say. I never thought I could achieve that dream again and that you would support me on top of that" Izuku said. "You can say thank you" Bakugo suggested. Izuku then stood up and hugged Bakugo. "Thank you Kacchan" He said. "You're welcome Deku"
A few days later Japan witnessed the debut of Deku, the first quirkless hero. He began working as Ground Zero's sidekick, but after a while he went independent. He still worked at Ground Zero's agency, but as his own hero. The pro hero Deku would eventually reach the top fifty and became an inspiration for many others that previously thought they couldn't become a hero.
