Stefan released Serana and went to inspect the corpse. He sifted through his corpse, he felt a folded piece of paper in his pocket. He took it out and unfolded it. It was a hand written note and the writers handwriting was scruffy and hard to read. He squinted at it.
"What's that you found?" asked Serana.
She stood beside him and they read it together.
'Our scouts have spotted Serana and Stefan travelling South to Whiterun. You are to capture them at all costs. You will be awarded 10,000 gold upon your completion.
F'
"Oh my," said Serana shocked.
"I know," said Stefan. "We're only worth 5,000 gold each. I thought you would be worth more than that."
She fired an ice spike at him. He felt a blast of cold that subsided instantly.
"You're lucky I'm a vampire now," he said.
"So are you," she replied menacingly narrowing her eyes but smiling at the same time.
He turned his attention to the letter.
"Who's F?" asked Serana reading over his shoulder.
"I don't know," replied. "But this 'F' really wants us captured."
"What does he want with us?" asked Serana looking up at Stefan.
"I think this has something to do with the recent Vampire attacks," said Stefan thoughtfully. "Although werewolves usually kill, they never capture."
He lowered the paper. Serana took it from him and read it carefully.
"If they knew we were travelling, they must have scouts near the castle," said Serana. "What about the girls?"
"It would be too dangerous to go back and warn them," he said. "Plus they are with Valerica, I'm sure they can defend themselves quite nicely."
Serana looked at him.
"They will be fine," he said. "We have to get to the college as soon as possible."
Serana was silent for a moment.
"Okay," she said. "Let's go."
Stefan looked at her for a second. He then turned and lead her towards the mouth of the cave. She hesitated and then followed him out of the cave.
A large fire burned in the great hall. Valerica, Lucinda and Valeria had pulled three chairs close to the fire. Several bottles of Nord Mead sat haphazardly on the floor in front of them.
"That was it," explained Valerica. "They were never seen again."
"Never?" asked Lucinda.
"No," said Valerica. "The Dwemer haven't been seen for centuries now."
"How does an entire race disappear like that?" asked Lucinda.
"No one knows," replied Valerica. "The only thing that's left are Falmer. Disgusting creatures."
"What are Falmer?" asked Valeria. "We've used their ears in alchemy."
"They were Snow Elves that the Dwemer enslaved," explained Valerica. "It's said that they lost their minds and went blind by living underground for so long."
"I've never seen one," said Valeria.
"You are lucky," said Valerica. "Psychopathic creatures. If you are curious about them ask Serana. She and your father have fought more then anyone."
Valerica took a swig of her mead.
"I heard a rumour that father used to be a mortal before he was a Vampire Lord," said Lucinda. "Is that true?"
Valerica looked at her. She was about to answer when she froze.
"Do you hear that?" she asked.
"Hear what?" asked Valeria.
Valerica held her hand up to silence her.
"There's something outside," said Valerica. "I'm sure of it."
She stood up and crept slowly towards the main doors. Lucinda and Valeria got up and followed close behind. Valerica crept up the stairs and approached the main door. She hesitated and pulled open the door. She peered outside and then looked her grandchildren.
"Nothing," she said. "It must be the wind."
Suddenly a window smashed above them. Glass showered the room. The girls threw their arms over their heads to protect them against the falling glass. A fully grown werewolf leapt through the smashed window and landed heavily on the stone floor. The furniture shook as it landed. It looked at Lucinda and Valeria. Its teeth barred and drool dripped from its mouth. It roared fiercely.
Lucinda and Valeria backed off slowly as it advanced on them. The werewolf's teeth were ungodly sharp, capable of turning them both into mincemeat in seconds. It growled as it advanced on them. A bolt of ice shot across the room. It landed in the werewolf's neck. It turned. Valerica shot another ice spike. It cut through the werewolf's left legs. It raised a paw and knocked the girls on the floor. It advanced towards Valerica.
Valerica shot another ice spike at it.
"Get to cover," called Valerica. She changed from ice spike to chain lightning, electrocuting the beast.
Lucinda and Valeria, with their Vampire blood, ran at double speed to the armoury. Valeria picked up her bow and a large quiver of arrows.
Lucinda raced towards the weapon rack and pulled out a silver sword.
"Silver!" she called. "You must use silver."
Valeria wasn't paying attention. In the head of the moment she loaded her quiver with several Daedric arrows. Powerful to be sure, but unable to defeat the werewolf. They dashed back into the room. The werewolf had pinned Valerica to the floor. She was holding it at bay by clutching its throat.
Valeria loaded an arrow. She took aim. She fired. The arrow slammed into the werewolf's back. The beast turned. It saw Valeria loading another arrow. She fired another. It struck the werewolf in the back. The beast turned to her. It made a beeline for her. She loaded another arrow. She fired. It struck the beast in the front leg. It hobbled, continuing its advance.
Valeria loaded another arrow. She aimed. She fired. The werewolf leapt up. The arrow struck its belly. Valeria leapt back. She beat it with her bow. The werewolf swiped at her. She beat it back again.
"Hey!" called Lucinda. She wolf whistled at the beast. The beast turned to look at her. Lucinda smiled menacingly. Her red eyes glowed and her fangs were bared. She raised her silver sword and her glass shield. The werewolf roared. It made a beeline for her. Lucinda back flipped onto the table, landing a little unsteady on her feet.
She raised her sword and shield. The werewolf leapt onto the table. It slashed at her. She raised her shield, blocking it. It slashed again. She blocked it. She bashed it with her shield. It stumbled. She lunged. The werewolf slashed, knocking her sword away. She raised her shield, blocking the attack . Valeria loaded an arrow into her bow. She fired. The arrow landed in the beasts back. She loaded an arrow. She fired again. It struck the beasts head. She loaded another arrow. She fired. It struck the beasts back.
Lucinda raised her shield. The beast attempted a dual attack. She blocked them both. She backed away slowly. Valerica shot continuous ice spikes at the beast, slowing its advance. Lucinda glanced behind her. The edge of the table was getting closer and closer. She raised her sword and lunged at the beast. She sliced an opening in its chest. She then raised her shield. She slammed it in the face with all her strength. It stumbled. She raised her sword and drove it through the beasts chest, right through its body. The beast slumped.
Lucinda pulled her sword from the werewolf and kicked its dead body onto the cold, stone floor. She breathed heavily, with adrenaline and excitement. Valeria lowered her bow as Lucinda lowered her sword. Valerica walked over to inspect it. Several daedric arrows were sticking out of its corpse.
"It's dead," she said at once.
Lucinda dropped her sword and shield on the bloodstained table. She climbed down and darted over to the corpse of the werewolf. She inspected the wound she created.
"What is a werewolf doing in Castle Volkihar?" she asked.
"I have a feeling that's why mother and father have left on an adventure," said Valeria. She bend down and began plucking her arrows from the dead body of the werewolf.
