This is a Tangled AU. Sabine came to mind as she and Rapunzel are both artists and have an associate who is a thief turned hero (Ezra and Flynn). Maybe I will right a Sabezra version of this story, but this Tangled AU is meant to be a father-son version between Ezra and Kanan. Second, I couldn't decide on whether to work on a Tangled fanfiction or a Star Wars story, so this was born. Also, for those who read my Girl at War series, I promise to get the story back on track sometime this week. Stay tuned for that.

Anyways, enjoy the first chapter of the Tangled AU no one asked for.

Prologue

This is the story of how I died...

Okay, not really, but, it's a true story. And it's not about me. It's about a boy named Ezra and it starts with the sun because a tiny drop fell from the heavens, and from it, a golden flower said to heal the sick and injured.

Overtime, a kingdom grew, led by King Ephraim and Queen Mira. But the Queen got very sick and was about to have a baby. However, Ephraim, in great fear of losing his wife and unborn son, heard of the magic flower, sending out many guards after it.

However, former Sith Lord, Darth Maul, hid the magic flower from the world and refused to share its gift. For it helped keep him alive for centuries until the day he could gain vengeance on our head guard, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.

Maul, an old Zabrak with horns, crouched down to the flower and began chanting:

"Flower gleam and glow

Let your power shine

Make the clock reverse

Bring back what once was mine.

Heal what has been lost

Change the Fates' design

Save what has been lost

Bring back what once was mine

What once was mine…"

Maul closed his eyes and let the golden fumes enter his system through his ears and mouth, once again becoming young and turning his grey tattoos and pink skin back to black and red. His eyes glowed yellow in the light.

Okay, you get it, right? He sings to the flower and it makes him young again. Can't get any creepier than that…

Maul heard the search party coming closer. In fear, he quickly hid the footer, pulled his hood back up and fled, inadvertently knocking the fake bush as he ran. Meanwhile, the guards led by Kenobi and Skywalker came closer, with Maul glaring at them both.

"Hey, are we even sure this crazy flower exists?" Anakin muttered.

"According to our King, it is real," Obi-Wan said. "As Knights of the realm, Anakin, we must keep an open mind."

Anakin rolled his eyes. "What I wouldn't give to be training Ahsoka and taking care of my wife and children."

"Not to worry Anakin I'm pretty sure Padmé and Satine can take care of two children," said Obi-Wan. However, Avalon panicked. Because they were best friends, their wives were ten times worse than Anakin and Obi-Wan were.

"General Skywalker, general Kenobi, we found it!" Rex, Captain of their guards shouted. Anakin and Obi-Wan rushed, coming to see Commanders Cody, Wolffe and Gregor taking it safely from the ground. Anakin smiled. They were going to get that flower to save the queen and that child. Being a father himself, Anakin couldn't help but feel pity for King Ephraim, should he lose his wife and children.

"Now we just got to get it back to the Queen," Obi-Wan said. He was relieved that they had it. Meanwhile, Maul glared. They had found the flower that rejuvenated him for his thirst for vengeance. They raced back to Lothal and the physician; Mr. Sumar turned the golden flower into an elixir. They were glad that Mira was going to be okay.

After the magic flower healed the Queen, a healthy baby boy was born with golden hair. That kid is Prince Ezra... And I got to say, this kid had something special but, more on that later.

Prince Ezra was loved by his parents the moment he was born. Mira smiled, reaching down and picking her son up and making sure their foreheads touched. Ephraim couldn't have been prouder in his entire life. The baby giggled as his father placed a crown on their son's head.

To celebrate his birth, Mira and Ephraim released a lantern into the sky.

Anakin and Padmé stood by each other, holding Luke and Leia. He would have been standing with the other guards. However, he wanted the day off with his family. Meanwhile, Ahsoka, ten years old, couldn't see over the adults. She didn't have a good glimpse of the baby. Anakin, standing in the crowd gestured to Padmé at Ahsoka trying to see. She smiled and nodded, taking Leia from Luke. Without a word, Anakin lifted Ahsoka off the ground and on his shoulders. The young Togruta smiled, glad to see baby Ezra, all unaware of the boy, young Caleb Dume and his best friend, Zeb Orrelios stealing. Suddenly, the boy stopped and saw the child. Caleb, now Kanan, at first couldn't stand to see how happy that kid was and with the King and Queen. However, as he came to the front row, Ezra looked down at Kanan and giggled and the fourteen-year-old couldn't help but smirk. The young orphan felt something special and that kid had it. Kanan shook it off. He wasn't going to dwell on it, then, he trudged off.

"what's the matter Kanan?" Zeb said with a smirk. 'Not jealous of a baby, are you? Or are you looking at your girlfriend Hera?"

Kanan blushed at her name. Hera was the daughter of outlaw King Cham Syndulla. Usually, Hera could be there but, Kanan hadn't seen her yet. They were just kids, after all.

"Oh, buzz of, Zeb," said Kanan. "We've got what we need."

They trudged off, and Zeb followed. The boys quickly ran, leaving the kingdom of Lothal behind and into its woods.

Yeah, that kid had something about him that made me curious about him. That boy was going to grow up big and strong one day, I just knew it. But in that moment, everything was perfect…but that moment ended.

Darth Maul was clad in a black cloak, sneaking into the King and Queen's chambers, where Prince Ezra slept. The child was calm and quiet. He began chanting again, taking out a pair of scissors and cutting off a streak. However, when he tried to clip away the boy's blonde hair, Maul was in shock when suddenly, the hair he was holding and the hair on the boy's head where he cut suddenly turned dark blue-black. Maul sneered. If the power was not going to be his, then maybe, the boy would be enough. He grabbed the child from his crib, causing Ezra to scream and shout. He sat on the ledge and looked up to see the parents looking up.

With one word, Maul took the child and disappeared into the night. The kingdom, including myself and Zeb, tried looking for the child, but Ezra was nowhere to be found. Maul imprisoned the child in a tower, where he raised the boy as his own…and this prize, Maul was determined to keep Ezra hidden… this time, for good.

Maul made sure that Ezra was still as he brushed through the child's hair. Despite kidnapping the boy, Maul felt some fatherly affection or Ezra. He made sure the child never knew his past or his real identity as the Lost Prince. Six-year-old Ezra finished his song, replenishing the boy's "father" again.

"Why can't I go outside?"

"You know why, my son," Maul said as he stroke Ezra's blonde hair. Quickly, he hid color that was the boy's natural hair color. "The world is a dangerous place, at least, you will be safe if you remain here. Do you understand, Ezra?"

The boy nodded. "Yes, Father." Maul smirked, this time, with reassurance he would end Kenobi one day. Later that night, Ezra snuck out of his room and down the steps, to watch the floating lights. He smiled, hoping to one day, find out what they were. For the lights were the only joy in his life, despite him being raised by Maul and being isolated.

However, the secret could not be contained forever, for every year, on the Prince's birthday, Queen Mira and King Ephraim released lanterns in the air, hopefully for the day their Lost Prince would return… For it would be years until Ezra was truly loved by another.
