Serana sat at the chair by the fire. She was re-reading something she had already read before. She wasn't paying attention to the words on the page however. No, she was listening for activity from her daughter who will still locked in her temporary bedroom. Lucinda hadn't appeared all day and she was hoping that now the night was approaching she would make an appearance.

A door upstairs opened. Serana closed her book with a loud snap and looked behind her. She could see Lucinda coming. Her hair was tousled and she yawned widely. She had clearly fallen asleep during her stupor. Lucinda's red eyes were misty with sleep as she looked down to see her mother staring at her. She rubbed her eyes and looked down at her mother.

"Why don't you draw a picture?" she asked. "I will last longer."

Serana shook her head and looked away. Lucinda descended the stairs carefully as her mother looked into the fire. She stepped out onto the wooden flooring and made her way into the alchemy lab. She picked up a blood potion, uncorked and drank a good measure. She picked up another and left the room.

She approached her mother and handed the potion. Serana took it. She smiled up at her daughter as she received it. Lucinda then took a seat next to her mother as Serana uncorked her bottle and took a drink.

"How are you feeling?" asked Serana.

Lucinda looked at her.

"I know you were upset about what I told you," said Serana. "You're my daughter. I can tell."

Lucinda sighed. She took a drink of her potion to give herself some time to think about what she wanted to say.

"I want to fight," she said. "If those...creatures...want to kidnap me. I'm not going to cower in my room and wait for them to come and get me. I'm going to fight them. I'll take as many of them as I can before they get to me."

Serana nodded.

"That's my girl," she said patting her on the back.

Lucinda was quiet for a moment.

"I hope they haven't hurt Valeria," said Lucinda.

"I'm sure she will be fine," said Serana.

"I'm her big sister," said Lucinda. "I should be there to protect her."

"She has your father with her," said Serana. "She's very well protected."

Lucinda smiled. She had an image of her sister and her father fighting together. Behind them the cloudy night dissipated to reveal the full moon. Large and round, just like the one that occupied the night Lucinda was born. They could hear a kerfuffle outside. Lucinda looked up at the noise. Serana also looked up. She looked at her daughter. They were here.

"What do you think you are doing?" called a guard's voice from outside.

There was a loud roar of a large creature. The sounds of the guard being picked up and thrown. His body slammed against the front door of the Breezehome. The door shuddered violently. The creature roared again. There was a sound of a slamming on the door. The creature roared and banged on the door once again. The door shuddered violently once more.

The hinges began to splinter as the creature slammed on it again. It was clear that the door wasn't going to hold on much longer. Lucinda stood up. She raced over to the weapon rack and pulled out the Steel sword. Her mother raised her hands preparing to fight.

"Is that silver sword?" asked Serana.

"No," replied Lucinda. "Steel. That's all we have."

Serana sighed. She turned to face the door. It was thrown clean off its hinges. They ducked as it flew over their heads and shattered as it hit the wall behind them. Farkas the werewolf stood in the doorway, his teeth bared and yellow eyes glowing in the moonlight.

"Come on then!" yelled Lucinda raising her sword. "You want me, come get me."

Her eyes glowed deep red and she bared her fangs.

Farkas the werewolf bounded into the small room. He was followed by several thralls. The room was so small, it was hard to fight them effectively. Farkas leapt at Lucinda. She dodged and made for the door. Farkas crashed into the bookshelf sending books everywhere. She turned back and goaded him to follow her. Her plan was to force them outside. Her hope was that the guards would help pick them off so she could concentrate on Farkas.

Farkas roared and pointed to Lucinda as she ran outside. The thralls abandoned fighting Serana and tore after Lucinda. Serana fired chain lightning as they ran after her daughter. The lightning jumped playfully between two of the thralls. She fired the lightning. It jumped. The two thralls dropped to the and twitched involuntarily. She stepped over them and allowed them to electrocute.

Lucinda fired lightning behind her. Farkas dodged it but she caught a thrall. He stumbled. Serana drew her sword and shoved it into his stomach. Lucinda dashed up the stairs and stood under the Gildergreen. Guards looked up from their patrols. Farkas looked at Lucinda and then looked at the guards.

"Vampires!" called one.

"Werewolves!" called another.

The guards looked from each of these creatures, unaware to decide who to fight first. Lucinda stood under the Gildergreen, waiting for someone to decide. Suddenly, a thrall was killed. A sword was driven into his back. He made a loud groan and fell to the floor. Lydia pulled out her sword and turned to face the werewolves and thralls.

"What are you waiting for?" called Lydia. "That's the daughter of Stefan. We are honour bound to protect her."

The guards drew their swords and turned to face the thralls.

"FUS RO DAH!" shouted a voice.

The thralls were thrown from their feet and were distributed unevenly a feet away.

"Father!" called Lucinda. Her face lit up with a huge smile. Her eyes glowed and her fangs were bared.

Valeria fired an arrow at the thralls. It flew straight past her sister and struck one in the neck.

Stefan drew his sword and lunged at Farkas. At once the fight resumed.

The guards fought the thralls. Lydia engaged the particularly large one. Stefan swore he had some troll blood in him. Valeria sprinted to a nearby house. She hoisted herself on the roof and perched herself along the central beam. She drew her bow and began showering the thralls with arrows from her vantage point.

Two werewolves were trying to fight Serana. She fired chain lightning at them. The blue shock waves danced happily from one to the other. She back peddled as she fired the spell, ducking and diving the swings of their swords. Lilith was aiding Lydia in fighting the eight feet tall thrall. He was enormous and wielded a truly massive sword. He brought it down as they dodged it. He roared loudly in annoyance as he missed them. He swung again. They ducked. The sword cleaved through a wooden beam. The house Valeria stood on shook violently.

Lucinda and Stefan were engaged with Farkas.

"Come on Farkas," said Stefan. "Let's finish this."

Farkas roared. He raised his claws. He swiped at Stefan. Stefan raised his sword. He blocked the attack. Lucinda fired lightning at him. He swiped her. She blocked it. She fired lightning again. Farkas glowed blue.

Stefan slashed his sword at Farkas. He cut him on the side and sliced an opening. Blood poured from the open wound. Farkas roared loudly in pain. He turned around. He saw Stefan's blood stained sword. He swiped his claws at him. Stefan dodged. Lucinda slashed at him opening another wound on his other side. He roared in pain. He swiped his claws at Lucinda. She dodged. One of them caught her arm. The wound bled for a moment and then healed instantly.

Serana defeated her werewolves and dashed to help Stefan and Lucinda. She fired lightning at Farkas. It was doing nothing more than aggravating him. He roared again and made a beeline for Stefan. He bounded at him. Stefan took off as Farkas ran underneath him. He reached up and grabbed him, preventing Stefan from flying. Lydia struck down the enormous thrall. Lilith spotted Farkas pulled on Stefan's ankle. She took a quick aim. She threw her dagger at Farkas. It sailed through the air and slammed into Farkas's back.

Farkas roared loudly. He released Stefan as the silver dagger stung and smoked into his skin. The guards has defeated the thralls. They watched as Farkas squirmed and yelled in pain. Valeria fired another arrow. It struck Farkas in the back. He roared as the arrow struck him. She fired another, and another. Each arrow hitting him in the back. Farkas roared loudly. The silver burned his skin. However, it didn't seem to be killing him.

He reached down to the silver dagger and attempted to pull it out. Valeria shot another arrow. It struck his paw. He roared again as he pulled the dagger out. He threw aside and it clattered along the floor. He looked over to see who threw it. Lilith looked at him, horrified. Farkas approached her. His teeth were bared. He walked on his hind legs. His claws glinted in the full moon light. A guard ran in front of him. Farkas grabbed him and tore him apart.

He advanced on Lilith. Lucinda looked up at the full moon the filled the sky. She looked at her mother, and then over to Lilith. As if in slow motion, Lilith prepared for a fight to the death. Farkas advanced on her. Lucinda then decided to do something very brave but equally very idiotic. She took a great running jump, she leapt onto Farkas's back and wrapped her arms around his neck.

Farkas roared loudly in annoyance and anger. He tried to throw her off but she clung on. Stefan and Serana watched, their feet glued to the ground. Valeria loaded an arrow into her bow and took aim. Farkas kept moving around, she couldn't get a clean shot. Lucinda looked up at the full moon again. She extended her fangs and dug them deep into Farkas's neck. He roared in agony.

She sunk them as deep as she could. She closed her throat, unwilling to drink his blood. His blood spurted everywhere. She held her fangs into his neck as long as she could. He grabbed her and threw her off his neck. She landed hard on the floor and rolled along the stone, landing in a heap in the water.

Farkas roared in agony as his blood sprayed from his wound. He clutched his neck as he collapsed onto the floor. He collapsed on his hands and knees as his transformation failed and he reverted back to his human form. He looked over to Stefan.

"This is not over," he snarled.

Stefan picked up the silver dagger. He then approached Farkas and picked him by his neck.

"Yes it is," he said. He thrust the dagger into Farkas's chest. He pulled it out and allowed Farkas to fall the ground. He lay in a heap on the stone, a pool of blood surrounded him as passed into death.

Stefan dropped the dagger and turned to his daughter. Valeria dropped her bow and quiver. She leapt off the roof and sprinted towards her sister. Lucinda coughed and opened her eyes. Valeria threw arms around her in joy.

"Lucinda!" she cried.

Lucinda coughed again.

"Okay," she said. "That's enough. It's hard enough to breath without you smothering me. Get off!"

Valeria released her sister as Lucinda sat up. She was drenched and her long hair stuck to her face.

"Are you alright?" asked Stefan as her parents kneeled over her.

"Yes, yes, yes," she said dismissively. She got to her feet. Her sodden robes dripped onto the stone.

She looked over to see the corpse of Farkas, laying in a pool of blood.

"He's dead my dear," said Stefan as she looked over to him. Lucinda walked over to Farkas and inspected him.

"How did you know you could defeat him?" asked Serana.

"Oh I but I didn't," replied Lucinda looking at the bite marks on his neck. "I thought that if he could turn me by biting me then perhaps I could do the same."

She looked down at his corpse.

"Seems as if it didn't work though," she said thoughtfully

"I'm not complaining," said Stefan.

They were silent for a moment. The guards sheathed their swords and went about their daily business. Lilith walked over to pick up her dagger. She cleaned it and sheathed it into the scabbard. Lucinda stood up finally and looked at her parents.

"Are we safe now?" she asked looking around the city.

"For now," replied Serana. "Yes."

Valeria put her arm around her sister and hugged her tightly. Stefan put his arm around Serana.

"Let's go home," she said. "I want to show you how much I missed you."

She kissed him deeply.

"Oh brother!" said Lucinda and Valeria in unison.
