Whitney stared down at her half-empty cocktail glass of fine wine. She knew it was going to be a good day.
It was sunny at Tortimer Island with a soft breeze and a purple striped umbrella behind her. The wolf took in a breath of fresh air. Her vision was tinted by her shades, and that's just what a lady like herself wanted today: A tinted world to keep the light of problems away. She wore a gorgeous cream-colored swimsuit with white pansy patterns.
"What a gorgeous day," she thought out loud, "I really have to thank the resident representative when I get back to town. This is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon."
With a sigh, she laid her head back. She crossed one leg over another and let her body ease. Relax, she thought to herself, as it would get her mind off of everything around her.
Clouds over the sun began to move and block the luxurious rays Whitney was soaking in. They were gray, dull of life and fun. She had to lower her shades to get a better look.
"Huh? The forecast didn't call for rain," she wondered, "Perhaps it will steer away from here in a minute."
The breeze began to intensify, turning into gusts of wind now. The umbrella behind Whitney began to stir. Not good. She quickly got up and closed it. She took off her shades completely.
A droplet of rain hit her cheek.
Without another word, she dashed across the sand towards the tour office. A clap of thunder rattled her bones and made her squeal. She could almost feel the bolt of lightning prick her fur.
When she made it inside, she fell flat on her face. She was embarrassed enough as it was to have to run to the tour office, but it quickly turned into confusion once she noticed all of the villagers hiding in the tour office too.
Phoebe, Sheldon, Egbert. The three were hiding in the tour office like it was doomsday. They were close together with Phoebe getting the most amount of warmth out of the three. Whitney walked up to them.
"What are you three doing," she asked with a bit of annoyance in her voice, "I don't think huddling together is going to solve the problem."
"Well, when the forecast calls for a storm, we hide!" Sheldon cuddled against Phoebe tighter.
"Didn't you watch the weather report this morning, Whitney?" Phoebe asked.
She shook her head. "I was never told about a storm," she said, "Isn't Tortimer Island always sunny?"
"Not today," Egbert spoke up, "The climate is shifting for the island!"
Whitney blinked, then she let out a laugh. Phoebe, Sheldon, and Egbert were all puzzled by her reaction and also somewhat concerned that she wasn't taking it as seriously as they thought. After calming down, she explained, "You all are so silly. The climate only changes when the seasons are changing, snappy!"
Phoebe's eyes widened as the group began to break their huddle. "So, does that mean Tortimer Island is changing seasons, sparky?" Whitney nodded.
Sheldon let out a hefty sigh. "That's a relief," he said, "But wait, Tortimer Island never changes seasons."
"There's a first for everything, darling," Whitney said to Sheldon with a smirk, "Even for jocks like you."
"Hey!" Sheldon growled, but Whitney waved him off, angering him more.
Phoebe stepped up so Sheldon couldn't do anything stupid. "So, does that mean we have to go home?"
"Oh, heavens no," Whitney answered, "It only happens once. We'll just have to wait for the storm to pass. It should not be too terribly long."
Within a second, the group of four jumped as the lights in the tour office went out. Another clap of thunder scared them all to pieces.
It was going to be a drawn-out storm.
