Handing Bilbo his tea I smile at the poor Hobbit, no wonder he fainted after all this excitement, I bet he hasn't had this many guests in his house at once let alone extremely boisterous dwarves who have no table manners at all!
"You okay there Bilbo?" I ask while Gandalf enters the living room, giving the Wizard a stern look I turn back to the Hobbit.
"I'll be all right, let me just sit quietly for a moment." He mumbles while sipping his tea, grinning I look to the wizard and see him puff in a lot of air, oh no! He is going to make a long winded speech, and it isn't even to me. Quickly skipping off out of the room I hear Gandalf start with 'you've been sitting quietly for far too long', chuckling to myself I go back over to the table with the contract on.
Re-reading through it, it seems fair enough though I have not had much experience with contracts, only renting places and bills. Frowning at the part about getting burned like a crisp I quickly wiz past that bit onto funeral arrangements. If I did die during this quest, where would my body go? Obviously it can't come back here as I do not live here, and you can't exactly send it first class postage back to Earth. Biting my lip worriedly I read past that section also, I am sure confusing and complicated matters like that are much better to ask Gandalf when he is not lecturing Bilbo.
Reading the last sentence I nod to myself, it all seems fair enough for a 'burglar' though I have no idea how well I will do with that bit as I haven't stolen a thing in my life, unless you count that one time when I was in Year Two at school and I accidently on purpose took Stacey Wollen's Barbie home. But I felt so guilty that the next day at school I gave it her back and gave her my only Barbie so she wouldn't be mad at me. I guess you can't exactly do that to a Dragon can you? 'Here you go Mr Fire Breathing Dragon, here's your gold, sorry mate had to steal it for these Dwarves but I felt bad so have brought it back to you. Please don't eat me!' Yeah I can see that going down soooo well!
Frowning I look in the drawers of the table but can't seem to find one of those quills that Bilbo used earlier on today. If I was a quill where would I be?
"Looking for something Lass?" Holding in a shriek I leap back slightly from Balin who had managed to creep up behind me, bloody dwarves!
"Jeez Balin, you nearly gave me a heart attack!" I clutched my chest and took a deep breath trying to reduce its mission of leaping out of my chest. His responding laugh made me give him a playful glare, sticking out my tongue I step back to my original place and carry on searching for a quill. "I am glad I amuse you so much." I look back at the dwarf and see a small smirk on his lips, I repeat – bloody dwarves!
"What are you looking for Miss Fiore?" He asks once more.
"A quill and some ink Balin, and I told you before it's Marcy." I reply, turning round to face the dwarf.
"And what would you be needing ink and a quill for lass?" He reached into his robes and pulled out a pot of ink and a very expensive looking quill, how big are his pockets?
"I need it to sign this contract", wow was that not implied you know with me standing holding the piece of parchment, maybe he thought I was going to scribble over it? Wouldn't be the first time I've accidently done it to a contract, but that was a phone bill so it was fine, kind of.
"You are still going to sign it?" His blue eyes regarded me carefully. Flushing under his gaze I nod somewhat shyly.
"Aye Balin, when I give my word to something I stick to it. I know I don't look like much but Gandalf chose me to help you and the others, that has got to count for something. Plus someone's got to come who looks half decent." I cheekily wink at him as he hands over the ink and quill; he chuckles to himself as both Fili and Kili walk around the corner.
"Who's got to look half-decent? I hope they know that both I and Kili have that covered." Fili states matter-of-factly, snorting I sign my name in a flourish and hand Balin back the ink.
"Who told you that? Your Mother?" I smirk when the brothers both give each other a look. "I take that as a yes." I giggle and leave the contract where it was ready for Bilbo.
"She's come out of her shell. I like her!" I hear Fili say when I walk away from the small group.
"That's what I thought. Sorry, Gandalf, I can't sign it. You've got the wrong Hobbit." I spin round and see Bilbo walking away down the hall, sighing I shake my head, how on earth could we get him to come? Hearing a huff I look back behind me and see Balin and Thorin chatting, where on earth have those two brothers gone now?
Confused I walk back into the living room and sit on one of Bilbo's armchairs, how they got them this comfy I have no idea but I am ordering one after this whole quest thing is over! Seeing a movement to my left I see Kili sitting on a stool next to me, seeing me looking over(yes looking over, I wasn't staring … I promise!) he sends me a cheeky grin which turns my cheeks a bright red. So much for ever being good with men, seems my awkwardness followed me over from Earth, which by the way sucks! I got a whole new look, surely they (whoever they are) could have given me a brilliant personality including an innate way to know how to act around attractive males. Not so much to ask for, right?
All of a sudden they started humming a tune, closing my eyes I let the tune run through me feeling the hair on my arms rise. At once the dwarves start to sing:
"Far over the Misty Mountains cold,
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To find our long-forgotten gold.
The pines were roaring on the height,
The winds were moaning in the night,
The fire was red, its flaming spread,
The trees like torches blazed with light."
Looking at all the Dwarves I can see how much this quest means to them, looking at Thorin I see the distant look in eyes, he was reliving what had happened to his home again. Feeling someone staring at me I look left and lock eyes with those chocolate ones, I seem to be doing this a lot. Smiling unsurely at him, he gives me a small smile he opens his mouth around his pipe as if to speak but was interrupted by Gandalf.
"Marcy, my dear could you come here for a moment please?" Talk about 'moment-blocker' Gandalf! Quickly jumping up I stumble over to the wizard who was holding a full backpack and a small sword, confused I tilt my head at him. "This is for you." Grinning excitedly I open the backpack and see a pair of dark brown trousers on top, sending him a very grateful look I pull them out and see they are quite thick, I am guessing to keep me warm and will not rip if I fall, which will undoubtedly happen at some point. A deep purple tunic rests underneath; I think I see a pattern happening here.
"Does everyone know my favourite colour is purple or is it happy coincidence?" I grin up at Gandalf who chortles softly while handing me a pair of brown boots and a thick coat slash cloak. "Why are you giving me all this Gandalf?" I ask feeling overwhelmed; I have never been given this much from someone ever.
"Because I brought you here with no warning and no time to get any resources so it was my duty to get you these things, plus something told me that at some time I would need to give a woman dwarf some clothes and a sword." He responds gently while ruffling my hair softly, smiling gratefully up at him I hug the items close to me. "Now it's time to get some sleep young one, go claim a comfy chair before one of those dwarves steal it from you." Grinning up at him I quickly hug him and skip off to the chair I was sat on with Kili and Fili sat on either side. Cuddling down on the chair I pulled out the rest of the clothes I place them on my lap and pull out a blanket again a deep purple, smiling at this, I pull out a canteen and a flint for the fire. Placing them all carefully back into the backpack but keep the blanket out I then look at the sword that Gandalf gave me. Checking the belt (I think it is called a baldrick though not entirely sure) I saw it would fit perfectly around my hips, holding the dull gold handle I pull the sword out of the scabbard and can't help but grin excitably. Thought it was smaller than the other dwarves swords it was none the less beautiful, it wasn't straight edged but had a gentle curve to it making it kind of look feminine, holding it up with one hand it didn't feel to heavy neither too light, I can't wait to practice with it. Sliding it back into its scabbard I place it on to the ground near my feet as well as the bag.
"That was one nice looking sword lass." Looking over my right shoulder I grin at the blonde haired dwarf.
"Indeed it does Fili." I smirk cheekily at him while I slip off my slippers and curl my legs under me and place the blanket over myself.
"I believe we are going to be good friends Miss Marcy, don't you think so brother?" Fili asked Kili who grinned.
"I agree brother." I glance at him and see those chocolate eyes locked on me, blushing slightly under his gaze I look away and into the fire.
"We should get some sleep lads, big day tomorrow and all." I state while trying to look anywhere but the brown haired dwarf on my left.
"Good night Miss Marcy." They both chorused, smiling to myself, this adventure was certainly going to be interesting!
SOSOSOSO sorry it's a short chapter but it is a needed one just to get the adventure started :) Hope you enjoyed it! REVIEWWWW PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
