A Little Bit of Truth

In every urban legend, there's a little bit of truth.

Debbie did have a master. He was gone almost all day. Commuting to the city for university took nearly forever and he'd come home at strange hours of the night. His room was away from Debbie's collection.

He was no Hector the Collector, but he had a fascination with technology.

His name was Steven Rhodes. Everyone called him Steve.

Debbie arrived home from one of her many outings. She slid a vacuum motor onto the shelf. The shadow of a vacuum drifted closer.

"Ah, Levi, look what I got," she said.

Levi was a Kirby Vacuum, a G4. A desk lamp clung onto his stem. "Sorry to bother you, but what is that from?"

Debbie glanced at the motor. "Well, there's an Ultimate G that lives down the street from here..."

A smile crossed Levi's face. "Ultimate G, you say?" He wheeled closer to the shelves. The desk lamp uncoiled herself. A piece of duct tape had been placed where her eyes would've been. "Thanks, Oracle." He took the motor in his plug. "Well, I expected nothing less."

Oracle chuckled. "It's beautiful, isn't it?"

"It is," Levi replied. He glanced at Debbie. "You kept your end of our bargain. You'll kill any Kirby that's younger than me."

Debbie smiled. "If I killed you, then who'd be Oracle's Seeing-eye vacuum?"

Steve got home. He pulled Shade's cord, turning him on.

He found a new motor on the shelf. He picked it up.

"What's this from?" He glanced at the G5 motor sitting beside it. "Must be from a vacuum."

He glanced at Debbie. She was laying on the ottoman. "Well. that's another addition to the collection."
