Title: Learn from the past and live for the future
Pairings: 1x2
Chapter 10
.
When the phone call came the entire good mood, the happy chatter, and jokes that had happened during the meal and after, vanished like water in the desert. Tom excused himself as soon as the phone rang, the others waiting anxiously.
"Do you think something happened to his sister?" wondered Duo aloud.
"Probably," responded Joe, his eyes on Tom.
"From his body posture and his tone of voice, I would say it's not a happy message," continued Duo.
Compared to Duo and Joe, Heero did not have any clue about whom or why someone was calling, but what he could do is read lips and based on that it was all about his sister who had some kind of accident and was in a hospital.
"What is the name of Tom's sister?" asked Heero, without taking his eyes off Tom's lips.
"Oh, right, we never talked about her after you came to live with Duo," responded Joe, "her name is Ann Lin, she is 30 years old and her husband recently died. She also has a son Alex; he was born blind, he's only three."
That was something Heero had not expected to hear. Just the thought to have a blind child was unthinkable. "Was it some kind of health issue?"
"No, Alex was born blind," answered Joe with a sad voice.
"She has to be a strong person then," added Heero thoughtfully; just the thought that Solo would be blind and not be able to see all the colors around made his chest hurt.
"Yes, that she is and the last time I saw small Alex he was just as a very cheerful baby," He halted as the kitchen door opened and Tom came inside.
"What happened?" asked Duo as soon as Tom entered.
"Is Ann alright?" asked Joe at the same time.
At first, Tom just sat down, face contorted in shock. Taking a breath, he replied, "She is as alright as she can be in her position."
"What the heck are you talking about?" asked Joe in a worry.
"I was told, Ann had an accident today," responded Tom.
"She had what?" asked Joe in astonishment.
"An accident," repeated Tom.
"What kind of accident are you talking about," wondered Duo.
"It was a car accident," answered Tom.
"Why did they call you?" asked Joe "I would expect they would call your father or mother instead."
"It seems Ann has changed her next of kin document after Sam's death, that's why."
"At least something good came out of it," responded Duo with a dry humor.
"Indeed," said Tom with a sad smile, "anyway, as I was told she went to pick Alex up from his day care and was almost flattened while crossing the street."
"That is not possible, she's the most careful person I have ever known," responded Joe. "She would look left and right before crossing the street. I am sure of it."
"Exactly, and she did. An old couple who were there to pick up their grandchild saw everything. They told the cops and the ER guys who came to the 911 response, that whoever was driving was either drunk and ran after or did it intentionally."
"So what are you saying?" continued Duo "Someone crazy waited for your sister to cross the street and tried to drive her over?"
"Not try, he or she actually did almost drive her over. The nurse informed me that Ann was brought into the hospital with one broken leg and a head concussion. They won't know if she has any brain swelling or inner bleeding until she has the CAT scan."
"Damn it, that is horrible," responded Joe.
"What about Alex?" asked Heero, "did anyone take the child out of daycare?"
"The ER guys went into the daycare to get him because of Ann, even with her concussion, she was called out for him."
"If she was conscious the whole way to the hospital, then her head injury shouldn't be too serious," reminded Duo "Right?"
"I really don't know," replayed Tom.
"What about the driver, do they know anything?" asked Joe.
"Everything happened too fast so nobody got any letter or number of the license plate. The police hope they will have more luck with street cameras around that neighborhood. For now, it will be reported as a hit and run." For a while nobody said anything, shocked. Tom continued, "What are we going to do?" while asking he looked toward his husband, hoping to hear something that would make the horrible news better.
"How far along is she with her packing?" wondered Duo.
"When Ann called us she informed us she had her business closed and all the papers signed. She also hired some small agency that will take care of selling the building."
"It's really ironic that we talked to her just yesterday," said Tom sadly, more to himself than to others "Who would have thought the next day she would be in a hospital."
"I would rather say thank the God the accident happened before she got Alex," responded Heero in hope Tom would get out of his depressing thoughts. "It could be worse."
"What about the house?" wondered Duo.
"The same agency will be in charge of selling the house, but they will start promoting it after Ann leaves," responded Tom.
"So what is the problem?" asked Duo. "All you have to do is go there, help with packing and getting her back to the ranch." While talking, he looked toward Joe and Tom to see if that was what they intended to do.
"Yes," Tom responded, "Duo, we told you our history or some of it, you know we left the hometown, but you don't know why. I even don't see any point of telling you all that," and yet he continued to talk. "Some of the town's people, I don't really know who exactly, have their own opinions or even rules about what is good for the town and what is not acceptable. Being homosexual, for example, is one of those things which is deemed not acceptable. Because of it, they sent a few goons to make us leave."
"Oh," said Duo alarmed and concerned, "does Amy know?"
"She knows some of it," responded Joe.
"How many of those goons were there for that chat," wondered Heero.
"Five or six, I think," answered Tom, "but I could be wrong."
"They did not harm us in any way," continued Joe "but they threatened us with death if we would not leave. It was also said to not come back again and if we did someone would die."
"Wow," responded Duo "so what are we going to do?"
"I don't know," answered Tom tiredly, "After leaving that town, I promised myself I would never go back, so I don't want to go, even if it's my sister who needs me. How sick is that?"
"Love," responded Joe, "I can go alone, that way nobody can say we came back to stay. All they will see is one family member coming back to help out. And even if they send someone to talk to me, I will just explain it to them why I am really there."
"But what if they don't see it as that? What if… what if they send someone to hurt you for coming back? Then, just because of my cowardliness and selfishness you would suffer and… I-I would lose you. If that happens, I could not live with myself." While he talked his whole body started to shake uncontrollably, so all Joe could do at that point was to get up from his seat and rush to Tom, pulling him into his arms and rubbing his back comfortingly.
For Duo and Heero it was like they were watching a movie where the two main characters were having a discussion and looking for unknown answers which were before their eyes all along and not knowing about it.
"Guys," stated Duo, looking toward Heero and getting a nod from him "guys, both of you forgetting something." While waiting to get their attention he continued, "you two are not alone anymore. I or even Heero," as he said Heero's name he shook his head as to remembering something, then continued "no, not Heero." While he continued to explain he looked toward Heero, "Relena would have a cow if you left to some unknown town without her knowing," then he looked toward Joe and Tom and continued, "but, you both can count on me."
"What are you saying," responded Tom.
"I just offered myself to accompany Joe to your sister to help out with packing and watching his back for you." And that was all that Tom needed to stop seeing problems which could come if Joe went alone and started making plans.
.
.
.
Much later when the house was quiet, Heero and Duo still lie awake quietly talking to each other while Solo slept soundly between.
"I am wondering how little Bubbles is doing," said Duo quietly.
"He is drugged up to the hilt and sleeping like death," replied Heero back.
The range of topics, they were choosing to talk about was all widely dependent on Duo's motivation to talk and Heero's motivation to follow it.
"What time did you say the painter would come?" Heero asked.
"Bobby Marrow," prompted Duo, "and he didn't specify but he is usually early so if I would guess, he will be here before the breakfast."
"Does he know what to paint or do I have to remind him?" asked Heero again.
"I told him exactly what Solo wanted, in spite of that Bobby will probably like to spend some time with him to get a feeling for him and his wishes," explained Duo but before Heero could ask more about it Duo continued, "He painted mine and the other rooms in the same way. His way of reading people wishes is interesting."
"Explain," was Heero's only replay.
And Dou did just that, "When I hired him to paint all the rooms, I thought I would just have to choose colors. Man, was I wrong? At first, all we were doing was chatting in the living room and not once did he ask me what I wanted. When time passed and nothing happened, I started to doubt that I had a painter in my house so I ask him directly what was going on and if he really was the painter I was talking on the phone with. I think I made him speechless, but soon after he started to explain. He told me it was too easy just to paint the walls with colors, his method is to get to know the person whom he would paint for."
"His methods are a little bit unorthodox, but if it works for him I am okay with it," responded Heero. After that, the topics soon changed again.
"It was nice of Tom and Joe to remove all the furniture from Solos room while we were at the Shopping Mall," continued Heero.
"Yes, it was," agreed Duo, "it is also good they will be using them in their new rooms."
"Is there something you want me to do while you are gone?" asked Heero.
"Tom will need help with horses, but I don't think it is fair to make you work so soon."
"Don't be ridiculous," Heero argued, "What is fair and what is not doesn't belong in our life, you know that."
"Yes, yes… my lord" returned Duo with humor.
"Also, what happened to Tom's sister is something nobody could predict. At least you can give them a new start."
"She is a baker. I think she had a store with baking goods. Maybe she will bake something good for us too." said Duo with a smile "What more do we need for a good start into a new day."
"Truth and nothing but the truth," confirmed Heero thoughtful "What kind of work does Tom need help with?" asked Heero again.
"Someone would say it's only cleaning out the stalls, feeding and exercising the horses. How hard can that be?" explained Duo then continued "I won't say he couldn't do all the work alone, I have done it too, but if you help him it will go faster."
"Would Tom be willing to show me," asked Heero again.
"Sure, he would and he will enjoy it too," responded Duo with humor.
That made Heero pause "Are you mocking me?"
"No," Duo responded quickly, "When the school teacher can't make it, it's Tom who jumps in and helps out. He is a very patient man and very good with children. That's why he is usually working with school kids showing them how to handle their horses, specifically what to do and how to do it."
"As long as I know what to do, I am fine with helping out," added Heero in response.
"You will have to avoid Shiny for a while. That horse doesn't like changes. He probably won't even let you in his stall, that's for sure," Duo said, talking more to himself than to Heero, "he will bother Tom as soon as he figures out Joe and I are not around. "
"Oh, is it safe for Solo to be in the barn with me?" Heero abruptly asked, remembering his little charge.
"If you mean, if it's safe for him to be near a horse while you are helping out, then yes, it is but you have to make sure he doesn't stand near their rear's and that he doesn't pull on their tail's."
"Why not?" Heero asked.
"They kick like a hammer with their back legs," said Duo with a smile.
"Really?" asked Heero in fascination "Did that ever happen with your horses?"
"No, but I saw it happen to a drunk once when Quatro and I went to a horse show," explained Duo with a smile "damn, did that guy fly."
"Hmm, would be fun to see," said Heero absently.
For a while, both stay quiet and Heero wondered if Duo drifted off to sleep without wishing him a good night, but then Duo spoke "You can also use the time to check out the rest of the house and all the rooms. That way you can see where everything is and make notes if you want to change something."
"I don't want to change anything in your house, its perfect just the way it is." stated Heero.
"Our house now," responded quickly Duo then continued "if you see anything that's bothering you…," he let his voice drop off, both knowing his meaning.
"I know you are just saying that to make me feel more welcome, but you are forgetting one thing," before he continued he looked into Duos eyes and waited.
"Okay, I will bite. What is more important than my house to make you feel more at home and to be more yourself?" while saying that he gave Heero that little smile only the other man ever saw.
"It's you," answered Heero in response "your presence is more than enough for me."
"I will miss you," replied Duo.
"I know you will," said Heero "but, let's face it, I will miss you more."
"That is for sure, ha ha ha," Duo chuckled quietly, "You will get to know Shiny when he is a brat."
"As long as he lets me sleep, I can ignore him through the day," continued Heero with a comeback.
"You can try, but it all depends on his moods."
"By the way, if I still have some time on my own I can make changes with my own room." Heero waited to see what kind of response that would garner but when none came, he continued "Do you still agree to move your office into my room and combine it?"
"Of course," replayed Duo, "also, while you are moving my stuff you can take a look at all the papers and finances."
"Slave driver," was Heero's comeback.
"You need to be one to know one," said Duo in the comeback.
It wasn't long after when both of them actually did fall asleep before wishing one another a good night.
.
It was 5 am in the morning when Duo strolled into his barn to get the morning chores out of the way before he and Joe left. At the same time, he wanted to see the dogs and his horse let them know why he won't be around for a week or two. When he entered the barn he found both dogs inside Solo's stall each sleeping in one corner while Solo stretched between them.
"Look at you three sleeping so nicely." Both dogs looked up when they heard footsteps, but as soon as they saw Duo they went back to sleeping pose. "What kind of guarding is that," while talking nonsense to them, he moved inside and set down near Solo's head to caress his sleeping friends. "I will be away for a few days, so you three have to be good for Tom and Heero. Your job will be to take care of the house, barns, and property." Duo did not know if they understood what he was saying probably not, even so, he felt better for it.
After going through the chores and giving each dog and even Solo an order, he left and it was not long after he set on the steps of the house with a small suitcase by his legs waiting for Joe to arrive.
.
.
.
"Duo, wake up," Joe's voice was calm.
"What? Where? Who? " Duo sleepily replied after waking up. The sleeping position in which he woke up was Hell to his body. His back and neck were killing him and if that was not enough, his ass was asleep. He couldn't even feel it. "Fuck, why didn't you wake me up earlier. Damn, my back and neck are killing me."
"If you think I would wake up a Gundam pilot while he is deathly tired next to me, think again. I love being alive." Joe responded with humor, "By the way, we are here."
The drive to the small town called Leachlock was a mystery for Duo as he slept for almost the whole ride. It was not done on purpose, the late night talking to Heero and then cleaning up the horses and feeding them in the early hours took its toll on his body. Joe just looked him up and down and decided right there and then that he would drive the whole way, so Duo should take the time and sleep for a while. At the end, Duo knew he shouldn't argue and just took the offering as it was, a friendly gesture.
"Where is here, specifically?" responded Duo, while getting out of the car and looking around.
"The hospital," replied Joe back.
"You sound troubled, what is wrong?" while asking he looked around himself to see what made Joe so tense.
"Nothing really, I just don't have good memories of that town so my defense mechanism is kicking in," explained Joe.
"Oh," added Duo then continued "I still think you should have woken me up before you drove into town."
"What for?" asked Joe in wonder.
"I wanted to see what kind of town Leachlock is," the reply was more to himself than to Joe.
"You did not miss much. It's a small town with only one main road traveling left and right. Also, it has a minimum of one or two tourist attractions," replied Joe.
"Wow, you really know how to present a town as an attractive tourist destination," mumbled Duo, eyes still wondering.
"If I had a say in it, I would tell everyone to just move out or avoid it entirely," muttered Joe "Do you see some kind of machine for parking tickets, I don't want us to get problems the first day we are in town."
"Is that not against the law?" muttered Duo.
"No, if the parking place belongs to a company who wants to get money out of sick people who need help."
Ten minutes later, after making sure their car was parked correctly, they moved into the hospital. The building on its own was new and the smell was still normal.
"Did the hospital move?" questioned Duo.
"Yes, Ann mentioned something way back when we talked on the phone. The old one was smaller and the building was way older," replied Joe.
At the front desk, they stopped and waited patiently to be noticed. The lady in charge was typing furiously and at the same time, she was talking to somebody on the phone. The waiting did not bother them, but still, they were relieved when the lady ended whatever she was doing and looked at them. In here expression Duo could read only the wish to help.
"Can I help you gentleman?" she asked them. The tone of their voice was warm.
"Yes, please, I am looking for Ann Lin," Joe replied.
"Just a moment please," came the reply and the lady moved to the computer to check the given name on the computer. "Yes, she was brought in yesterday. She was in the intensive care for the night but was moved into a normal room. The visiting time is still open so it's okay. Are you her family member?"
While talking, she was constantly in motion. First, she was typing on the computer, then she was searching and pulling some papers to be filled up.
"Yes, she is the sister of my husband Tom Turner. He got the phone call yesterday and was told to come as soon as possible. Also, Ann has a son, he is 3 years old and goes by the name of Alex."
When the word husband came both saw the surprise on her face but was soon vanished and the talking preceded normally.
"Can I please see your identification card?"
"Of course," responded Joe while getting it out and giving it to her so she could make a note on the computer.
"Please here are some papers to be filled up. Miss Ann did not have the time to give us the information if she would pay the hospital bill or someone else."
"And you are," she asked while looking expectedly toward Duo.
With a big smile on his face, Duo responded "Just a friend coming to help and I will take care of the hospital bill. Here, is my ID card and my home address please send the bill there."
While Duo talked, she was just nodding and making notes on all the information she needed. When she got what she wanted, she again looked toward Duo. "Will you be visiting too?"
"Yes," replayed Duo "if that is okay?"
"Yes, it's good."
When both of them got checked and booked into the computer they got the needed information on Ann, the baby boy and the number where they could find here.
Before they were released to move on, she promptly said. "gentleman, please talk calmly with Miss Ann, she had a severe head concussion."
"Thank you, and where can I find my nephew Alex?" Joe asked.
"You will find him in the same room as Miss Ann," she informed them.
"Thank you again," added Duo.
With that, they moved away from the front desk and into the corridor where they were told they would find the correct room.
"You know we could take care of the bill," Joe said in a quiet tone so nobody could overhear them.
"I know, but you two are my friends and also my family so I don't mind taking care of it," responded Duo
"Thank you," came the reply.
"By the way, did you see the face when you told her you are Tom's husband?" asked Duo in wonder.
"Yes, and it did not surprise me." Said Joe then continued, "it's also good that she needs to be professional in her position and not homophobic."
"I don't think she was disgusted or angry, those are feelings you cannot remove from your face if you don't train it."
When Duo said that Joe stopped and asked in wonder, "There is really a training to not show any emotions?" wondered Joe "Was that part of your training as Gundam pilots?"
"Yes, and yes. Also, you would not like it one bit." He never asked Heero or any other of how they were trained for that part. For Duo, it was not as fun. If he thought deeply enough, he could still recall the exact feelings and the pain he felt when he was sitting in that stupid chair with his head, hands and feel tied down. The training was for Duo to watch different scenarios on the screen and not showing any emotions. If the computer who monitored him noted any emotions the chair got electro shocked.
"Wow, those are for sure unpleasant memories," Duo muttered to himself.
"What?" asked Joe when he saw Duo shivering and shaking his head as to shake some thought off.
"Nothing, I just want to stop remembering those training times."
When they came to the right room number they could see a room with 3 beds in it, but only one bed being occupied, Tom's Sister Ann. Beside the bed was a small child's bed in which a 3-year-old boy was at that moment standing on both his legs with his head turned toward the woman talking to him. To Duo, it looked like the boy was listening to every word his mom was saying and more he could also see from his movements that the small boy knew that someone stopped at their door and was not leaving.
"It seems that we were noticed," responded Duo with a smile.
"What are you talking about," asked Joe.
"Your nephew knows we are here," explained Duo.
"How can he know that? He is blind." wondered Joe.
"Yes, but because of it his hearing is extra good," explained Duo.
When Ann realized his son was not vocal as normal she looked toward the door. As soon as she saw Joe her face got warmer and happier in an instant.
"Joe," came the happy melodic sound "Thank the God, you came." After expressing her happiness she turned toward her son and continued speaking to the small child "Alex your Uncle Joe is here." Even if the boy did not see who it was that came into the room he became happier and Duo assumed it was the tone of Ann that made that happen.
With few fast steps, Joe reached and hug Ann. "Dear God, it's so good to see you. When Tom got the phone call from hospital staff, we got worried. How do you feel?"
"My head hurts like crazy and my leg won't work for a while. It's broken in several different spots so it will be some time before I walk on it again. Still, If I considered yesterday pain, then I am good."
"Good," Joe responded.
"But now that you are here, I feel so relieved." While talking she looked toward the door like searching for someone "Where is Tom?"
"Sorry Ann, but we did not want to make problems for you, so we decided it's better if just one of us comes." The lie was one both Joe and Duo agreed on if that question came.
"Oh," was the only word she said, but it was enough for everyone in the room. Both could hear the disappointment in her tone.
"Don't be like that. After we take care of all that need to be done, we will go back home and you can see Tom every day for the rest of your days." Joe responded with a smile, then continued "For now, you can meet our boss and friend Duo Maxwell."
"The one you were talking about?" and like a switch, she was again curious and interested in talking.
"Yes," he said then looked back toward Duo "Duo come, and met our Ann."
.
.
.
"No, No, No, no" her body was tense and her mood dark. "Why? Why is he so blind? And why is he ignoring me? He told me he would send me pictures and letters, but I get so little." The steps she took to her desk and away from it were rigid and fast. "Can he not understand? I am not a bad person here! All I want is to make Solo normal as any other child his age is."
Relena's day was not as good as she expected to be. Okay, to be honest, the whole month was bad, even if it was her own doing. She made the decisions she could not and would not change. Now, she was in the process of divorcing, her soon to be ex-husband was ignoring her calls and her freak of a son was still as dangerous as he was the last time she saw him.
"Why me? Why my son? Why us?"
It all started when Solo was only 2 years old. At first, she noticed how Solo watched everyone around him like he was watching something that only he saw but did not understand. Then, he started being agitated whenever a maid or other servants gotten near him. Nobody knew why or what made him be agitated. Heero, of course, did not see the problem with his behavior, he just took it as it was and removed them from Solo's presence.
It was so easy for Heero, but for her, she just could not ignore it. So, she watched him closely in the hope to understand him. At one point she actually asked Heero if Solo was not behaving strangely for a baby. The look he gave her was the look of surprise and bemusement and the reply she got was "That baby?" while asking, he held Solo up over his head and making funny faces at Solo which made him smile with delight.
But of course it was her who Solo started ignoring next and it went so far that he did not want to be near Relena in any way. Again, why her and not Heero, she could not answer. There were small signs Relena noticed at first, like whenever she was in the same room as Heero and Solo, their son was quiet, looking away from her and actually ignoring her. To her, it was like her a betrayal. Her own son rather chose to ignore her presence, then showing her what was wrong. How ridiculous was that?
A next sign she got was when she held him in her arms. How and why? At first, he would become very still, not move, not look at her and not doing anything. Then his small eyes where start searching for Heero. If he did not see him, he would start screaming like someone was abusing him. At that point, Heero would come almost running toward them and as soon as he was in Heero arms he would calm down.
Once time it actually happened in a ballroom full of people. Of course, it was she who insisted on taking Solo with her in the wish to mingle between guest and show them her own son. Her intention was to show everyone that she was not just a political figure, but also a young mother. Sadly, what she got was much worse than expected, her own son started to scream in a matter of 5 minutes in her arm. So, what she really got was only humiliation, and that feeling made her wish for Solo to never be born at all.
It was from that point on that Relena only felt anger for having a child as alien as Gundam pilots were. That was also the beginning when Relena started avoiding not just her son but even Heero. To her it was like both of them were judging her for something she did not know or understand.
Maybe that was the problem? Maybe she led it to happen? While avoiding it and deceiving herself, she created those problems? One thing was clear, if she could go back in time she would force Heero to talk to her about Solo and what she was doing wrong. But, what she should or should not do was something she could not change, not anymore.
The way she saw it now, she had only one option and that was to trust the doctors who promise her they would discreetly check Solo out and see what they are dealing with. Afterward, they would give her full report and make the proposal of how to make Solo normal again. Afterward, nobody would judge her to be a mother of a freak.
"What is done is done," she told herself.
The knock on the door brought her out of her thoughts "Yes?"
True the open door came the secretary who bowed and said "Mis Relena, here are two gentlemen saying they are doctors and asking for a few minutes of your time. Do I send them away or let them in?"
"I was expecting them Matilda so please send them in." The secretary bowed again and turn to leave "And, Matilda" she said more forcefully "I am not to be disturbed by anyone."
"Of course," with that, she left.
After the door was closed Relena took a deep breath, "Thanks the God, the time of waiting is over and time of change comes. I have to be a little bit more patient."
One thing was clear, whom or what those doctors needed to help her out she would provide. Why? Because that was one meeting Relena hoped would turn her future on a better path.
Next time the knock on her door was made her secretary came in with two men in tow. Both were slim, one tall with black hairs another small with brown hairs, but both pale with the same serious expression on their faces as she used to see on Heero.
"Miss Relena, let me introduce you to Mr. Frank Bolocky," while talking, Matilda looked toward the black-haired man, "and Mr. Mark Freeman," once again she pointed toward the brown-haired man.
Once done with introduction she asked, "Is there anything else you need me to do?"
"No thank you, Matilda. You may leave."
"Yes, Mam," with that she turned around and closed the door behind her.
"That is very reliable secretary you got here, Miss Relena." The tall black haired man told her while both took the sit on her visitor chairs.
"Jes, I do," said Relena "Is there any refreshment I can provide? Maybe water, juice or coffee?"
"Water, for both of us." Mr. Frank Bolocky answered.
During the time Relena phoned Matilda to bring her refreshments all tree waited patiently. It took only minutes for Matilda to bring the drinks and leaving as she came. Afterward, they drank in silence and waited for someone to start talking.
"While your house and even your office are beautiful Miss Relena, we are not here for it." Mark, whose hairs were brown spoke up. "Let's us go to the main point of why we are here. Can you tell us more about your son?"
"Yes," Relena confirmed, "What do you need to know?"
"First of all, when can we expect to get our hands on him, Miss Relena?"
"Mark" the tall and dark companion prompted quietly.
Without even registering his companion, Mark continued "The agreement with our science medic department and yourself, prompt us to give you support any way you need to get the votes for your political career. So far we have done all it was asked of us. Now, the time comes for you to fulfill your part. Don't you agree, Miss Relena?"
"I do," Relena said quietly, "but".
"But, what?" Mark prompted impatiently.
"Heero, my husband" Relena started with an explanation.
"Our information are that you and your husband are in the process of divorcing."
"My soon to be ex-husband, so still my husband if we are specific" while saying that she angrily looked to Mark then continued "found out about my intention with Solo. Because he did not agree with me, he took Solo and moved away."
"Do you have any idea where he is or where he went?" asked Frank, who only listened till now and let his companion talk.
"The only information I can provide you with is the address."
"That's more than enough for us," Mark replay absently to Relena while giving his companion a quick look.
"Gentleman, you have to understand something," Relena forewarned them "my husband Heero won't let you take Solo away from him in any way. In my eyes, it's a suicidal attempt. That is the only reason why I was so slow in informing your colleagues about the unpleasant situation which arose."
"We will just have to get help with that, won't we?" once again Mark responded.
"Can I ask how?" Relena asked skeptically.
"Not to be impolite Miss Relena," Mark started, but the look from his companion and the shake of his head stopped him with intended topic, so he continued with something new "but we cannot talk about it. Let us rather talk about your specific wishes and what we will need to get it done."
Both doctors saw that Relena did not like the respond but soon the topic of Solo and what she wanted and desire from them made her forget all about it and once again they continued with planning.
When the talk and planning were completed, they thanked Relena and informed her to expect the contacted them as soon as they get Solo. Afterward, they would give her full report and make the proposal of how to make Solo normal again. Satisfied with that Relena and both doctors shook hands and then they parted ways.
Once out of Relena house and safe inside their own vehicle, both men at first did not say anything both knowing how easy it would be for someone to overhear them with the right equipment. First, they had to get as far from Relena's estate as possible and make sure they were not followed. Only then would they start the conversation.
"We should make more demands of what we would need even if we made stuff up, I really don't care," said Frank as a start into the conversation.
"Yes, we will, but first we needed to see her and get a measure of everything and what we can expect from her," replied Mark.
"True, and we saw enough," mocked Frank.
"One thing is crystal clear and you can say whatever you want Fran, but that lady is definitely a fool, a loony, an idiot or any other metaphor for it. "
"Yes, yes, I got your point. I have a feeling she is desperate and because of it, she doesn't think rationally anymore," responded Frank.
"As long as she is ignorant and doesn't know what we really want and give us whatever we say, she can think whatever she want's. Even if we have to make her believe that we can cure her kid."
"I would rather have Heero Yuy than a small frail child. He won't give us much of interesting data," continued Frank absently.
"We could always get both," said Mark in the conspiracy.
"You sure?" Frank responded with more energy than before.
"Yes, I am," said Mark, "Just imagine numerous experience, we could make on him. Also, I do agree with you on not getting much from the small kid."
"It's good, nobody knows we got our hands on the diary of Doctor J."
"Got?" Mark responded "We both know we stole it. Also, I still did not have the privilege to read it because someone is taking his time," responded Mark.
Without taking the note of the metaphorical bite Frank continued "He has done so many experiments on Heero Yuy that I am astonished for him to even be alive."
"So what? You want to see which of them are true and which are false?" asked Mark.
"Yes, I sure do," replied Frank.
"Then we will need help with him and the kid," responded Mark.
"Yes, we will, especially because we have Gundam pilot to abduct."
