The Game is On
Ava returned to her apartment. She wheeled into the bedroom. Ella flickered on as well as Lexie. "Hey, Ava, you're looking a little blue."
Ava twitched. "Good pun, Lexie, but..." She paused. "How do I stop a serial killer?"
Lexie was scrolling through her save data. A game called Soul Survivor appeared among other games. "Just outrun and hide..." More scrolling. Le Chat Noir came onscreen. "This one's probably not relevant."
"A real one," Ava said.
Ella blinked. "Is it that killer drill? The Kirby murderer?"
Ava nodded. "I think that vacuum she's been traveling with has something to do with the murders, since only G5s and later have been targeted."
Lexie closed out of her save data. "And you're an Avalir II?"
"Yeah," Ava nodded. "I still need to make a plan."
Lexie reopened her save data and played a clip from another game. "Fight or Flight." The protagonist, a bespectacled man in a suit, was fighting a grotesque ragdoll monster.
"Fight back?" Ava said.
"Yeah," Lexie said. "That's what I would do." She paused. "When you come back, can you tell me how you S-ranked Effigy doll? The highest I've gotten was B."
The smile returned to Ava's face. "I'll do that. But I've got bigger plans."
