"March 3rd, 1989, I left the Rescue Rangers' last night and have made it my journey to start a new life far from New York. I can't seem to live with the past or try to continue the future that I may have had so I'm moving away to start a new life. Far away from here. I'm so sorry Dale.

It was 10:30 Friday, March 3rd, 1989. The Rangers' were ready and set to go. However, regardless of what happened yesterday they knew they couldn't leave Chip behind as he was their leader.

"Dale, could you go tell Chip that we're leaving now." - Gadget asked softly as she turned to Dale in the backseat of the plane.

"Ok Gadget." - Dale said with his iconic smile and bailed off the plane and up to his and Chip's room.

"Chip are you ready to go?" - Dale asked as he walked over to Chip's bed tapping the blanket.

"Chip?" - Dale said then ripping back the comforter.

A note appeared on the pillow and Dale picked it up and read it.

"Dear Dale, words can not express the actions I took to you yesterday. I have failed you as a friend and a brother and I am truly sorry. I didn't know what I was thinking when I swung at you yesterday. I never ever wanted to bring harm on you and the sight of the blood running down your face was far too hard for me to bear. I have decided to leave the Rescue Rangers and begin my new journey in life. I don't know where I'll go or what I'll do but I'll always remember and never forget all that we have done for each other. I love you brother, and don't you forget that. I'll visit you someday but when that someday will be I am not sure. I left my hat on the floor in the living room as something for you to remember me by. Cherish it as much as I did. I have confidence in you making the right decisions for the group while I am gone. Never doubt yourself Dale, I have confidence in you.

Sincerely,

Chipperson Oakley."

A tear fell from Dale's face as he ran down to the plane, but before exiting grabbed Chip's hat and put it on.

"Where's Chip, Dale?" - Gadget asked with a look of concern.

Dale just looked at Gadget with Chip's hat in his hand and showed no emotion. Dale didn't know what to think.

"We have to go find him." - Dale said, looking over the side of the plane with a view of New York upon the horizon.

"Too right Dale, but where should we start looking?" - Monterey posed the question to Dale.

At this moment Dale realized he had to lead the Rescue Rangers' to find Chip. He was never good with on the spot thinking. He had a flashback to their vacation one year that led to him attempting to find hermit crab shells. He was lost as to where to start or what to do. Dale always wondered how Chip was so good at coming up with a plan on the spot and going according to his desire without a mistake. It was now Dale's turn to lead.

"We need to get up in the air and start looking for him. Zipper you go check alleyways" - Dale instructed as Gadget got the plane in the air.

Zipper nodded and went on his way, while Gadget started to fly the Ranger plane around. As Dale focused his attention to the ground looking over the side of the plane, the letter he had been carrying started to blow away. Monterey caught it just before it was gone. Before he handed it back to Dale, the signature at the bottom of the letter caught his attention and he proceeded to read the letter.

"Brothers! Pally, you never told us you and Chip were brothers." - Monterey was shocked and confused as he turned and looked at Dale.

Dale froze and turned around slowly to make eye contact with Monterey. He attempted to argue against it but saw Monterey had the letter in his hand.

"W-We were gonna tell you but Chip wanted to wait. He thought it would be good to say when the timing was right." - Dale mumbled as he refused to make eye contact with anyone.

"Gee, if I was to know any better I'd say you guys seem embarrassed to be brothers." - Gadget said keeping her focus on the plane controls.

"We had a rough childhood. Our parents died at a young age. Chip, however, stayed and took care of me. He had an opportunity to run away a long time ago and start a new life with a squirrel named Rebecca he met in school but he didn't.

A Flashback Starts…..

(The song of Brotherly Love By Keith Whitley calmly plays in the background of this flashback )

"Oh but Chipper why can't you join me. My parents said it would be fine for you to move with us." - Rebecca pleaded with Chip grabbing his hand.

"I wish I could Rebecca, really. It's just.." - Chip said.

"It's just what? Oh right, you have to look after Dale. You know no one would hold it against you if you told him you were going to the store and left with me instead. I'm sure he could put two and two together. Unless that requires using your brain in which you might need to send him a postcard to catch a hint." - Rebecca snarled sarcastically giving Chip a disapproved look.

"Now you listen here Rebecca, my brother is not an idiot. You may think he's stupid but he is not. He is just as smart as anyone else. Now I'm staying here and taking care of him because I need to. He is all I have and all he has for family and I would never forget about him." - Chip yelled in outrage to Rebecca's comment.

"But- Chip." - Rebecca muttered.

"No buts, Rebecca. I'm staying and that is final." - Chip said as he stormed off inside the tree house to be greeted by a younger dale aged 9 or so years old in the living room.

"Gee Chip, is everything alright? I've never heard you yell like that before." - Dale said looking up at Chip from the floor where he had been sitting.

"Don't worry Dale. Rebecca and I were just disagreeing on something." - Chip said as he smiled at Dale kneeling and embracing Dale for a hug.

The Flashback Ends….

Tears fell from both Gadget and Monterey's face. They looked at each other and then smiled at Dale.

"Will bring him home to you Dale." - Gadget and Monterey softly whispered to Dale.

As hours went by Chip had struggled to find a way out of the city and stopped off at a local bar that Monterey used to go to for cheese sauce when times were rough for him. As Chip tried to drown out his sorrows he came into an encounter with a member of Rat Capone's gang. Chip was unable to fight as he had been drinking for the past hour or so.

"Look at this wisecrack. Thinks he can come into our establishment and buy things from us. We outta show him just who he's dealin' with." - A bystander said grabbing Chip by his coat and tossing him to the floor. +

Chip stumbled to his feet and took a swing missing and striking a female rat in the face.

"Is that all you got." - Chip slurred his words and stumbled across the floor grabbing a hold of a table for balance.

"Get this fool out of here. No fighting in my establishment." - The bartender ordered.

Chip was tossed into the street and dragged into an ally where he was ruffed up by some of the patrons of the bar. Left beaten, Chip laid lifeless on the concrete up against a garbage can. Zipper searched ally's all across town and then came across the one Chip was in. He tried to wake Chip out of his unconsciousness but was unsuccessful so he flew to find the others.

"Maybe we should turn back and continue this tomorrow Dale." - Gadget said as she prepared to head back home.

"Too right Gadget love, I've worked up quite an appetite from all this searching." - Monterey said while rubbing his stomach.

"You guys can go home, I'm going to continue to search." - Dale replied while looking over the side of the plane.

Zipper flew up to the plane and tugged on Monterey's coat.

"Zippa, did you find him?" - Monterey asked.

"Yes." - Zipper replied as he flew down to the ally.

Gadget turned the plane and followed Zipper to the ally and landed.

"Chip!" - Dale exclaimed as he ran to Chip's side.

"Gadget love, we need to get him to a doctor and fast!" - Monterey ordered.

Everyone helped lift Chip into the plane where they proceeded to fly to the animal hospital near there home. Carrying him inside, doctors rushed him into a room to prepare first aid. While Chip was treated for, the rest were asked to wait in the lobby.

"It's gonna be alright Dale." - Gadget said in reassurance as she put her arm around Dale's shoulder.

"Oh this is all my fault. If I had thought before sayin' anything this would've never happened." - Dale said with his head being propped up by his hands.

Dr. Gerry Moleson then entered the room and greeted the rescue rangers'.

"Well I've got good and bad news." - Dr. Moleson stated.

"What is it doctor?" - Gadget asked.

"The good news is that Chip is going to live. The bad news is this he has a broken leg, a sprained wrist and minor concussion. He will be in need of being looked after. He won't be able to walk on his own or bathe without assistance." - Dr. Molseon explained.

"Does he have any family that he can stay with for the duration of his recovery?" - Dr. Moleson asked.

"Me." - Dale stated as he stood up from the chair.

"Very well then. Follow me." - Dr. Molson said as he motioned Dale to follow.

Dale was led into the room where Chip was laying on the bed, now bandaged up and sleeping.

"I'll leave you two be for a few minutes while I prepare his medications to be released." - Dr. Molseon said as he left the room closing the door.

Dale walked over to the side of the bed sitting down in a chair next to it. He reached out and grabbed Chip's hand, rubbing it, feeling the scars and cuts that covered most of his hand.

"Oh Chip, I don't know if you can hear me but I'm sorry. I know I'm a goofball, and I know I ruined your hat. I hope you can forgive me for this. The doctor said you need to be looked after for the next little while, so I volunteered to take care of you. I just hope I don't screw that up." - Dale said in a somber tone as he gently rubbed his thumb while holding Chip's hand.

Chip, awake now, looked at Dale.

"Dale, why are you apologizing? It's my own fault for hitting you. I was the careless one, not you. My hat can be replaced. But you, you Dale cannot. It was wrong of me to run away from my problems. I should've talked to you." - Chip said in a tired voice.

"And I should've listened." - Dale replied glaring back to Chip.

Dr. Moleson entered the room, Dale let go of Chip's hand.

"Alright, Mr. Oakley, is it. I have you medications and a release form." - Mr. Molson stated as Dale took the medications from him.

Chip signed the release form

"Thank-You, I'll see to it you'll find your way out. Also, Chip, if you feel and additional pain increase just come back and will take a look, okay."

"Thank you doctor." - Chip and Dale replied.

Dr. Moleson exited the room. Dale then helped Chip pack his things and helped him into a wheelchair.

"Okay Chip, I think the others want to see ya." - Dale said with a smile as he pushed Chip down to the lobby.

"Chippa, your alright!" - Monterey exclaimed as he stood up and walked over to Chip.

"Oh I'm so glad you're alright, Chip." - Gadget said as she gave a hug to Chip.

Chip winced as he attempted to smile in admiration.

"Golly, sorry Chip." - Gadget said as she backed off and blushed slightly.

"It's alright Gadget." - Chip said as he let out a smirk.

"Why don't you say we continue this at home?" - Gadget said as she gestured to everyone to leave.

The Rangers' loaded Chip into the plane and flew home. Once home, Dale assisted Chip with dinner as Monterey and Zipper packed their bags for a personal vacation. Gadget unpacked equipment from the plane.

"Alright pally's, Zipper and I are off." - Monterey said, setting his bags on the ground next to the door.

"Where are you going, Monterey?" - Chip asked in confusion.

"Zippa and I are going on a trip to visit my parents in Australia. And we may stop to admire a few cheese ships along the way, hehe." - Monterey said, letting out a slight laugh at the end.

Monterey then hugged Gadget and shook Dale's and Chip's hand, then picked up his bags and left.

"You want more Chipper?" - Dale asked Chip.

"No Dale. I'm full, thank you." - Chip said as he smiled at Dale.

Dale then glimpsed at the wall clock then back to Chip.

"I know it's late, but did you want to watch some TV before bed?"

Chip looked at the clock then back to Dale.

"Sure Dale, it's not like I have anything better to do." - Chip said as he shrugged.

"Let me help you Chip." - Dale said as he put his arm around Chip's waist walking him over to the couch and setting him down gently.

"So… What do you want to watch?" - Dale said as he looked at Chip in question.

"I'm not sure Dale, anything you want to put on is fine with me." - Chip said as he starred at the blank screen.

"Ok Chip." - Dale said with a large grin.

Dale turned on the TV. and started flipping through channels. Chip squinted and looked away as the bright light from the TV aggravated him due to the concussion he had.

"What's wrong Chip?" - Dale said with a look of concern.

"It's the light of the TV, it's too bright!" - Chip said, looking away in displeasure.

"Oh-" Dale mumbled as he turned off the TV.

"Dale, Chip can't watch TV for at least a week due to his concussion. Didn't the doctor tell you that?" - Gadget said as she entered the living room.

"Uh-um, no." - Dale said as he tried to remember what the doctor said.

"Maybe you should let Chip get some sleep, Dale." - Gadget said to Dale.

"Oh, okay, Gadget." - Dale replied.

Dale then turned to find Chip had fallen asleep on the couch. Dale then tried with all his might to lift Chip up and carried him to his bed, removing his coat and putting his nightgown on, he gently laid Chip into his bed and covered him up. Dale then grabbed the chair from Chip's desk and sat next to Chip's bed. Dale then pulled out a comic book and started to read it.

"What are you doing, Dale?" - Chip mumbled in a tired voice.

"I'm just watching ya so you're alright." - Dale replied with a smile.

"Dale, you don't have to watch me while I sleep. Get some rest, I'll see you in the morning." - Chip replied as he rolled over in his bed.

"Ok Chipper." - Dale replied as he put the comic down and got into his bed.

"Good night Chip" - Dale said as he drifted slowly into a deep sleep.
