A/N: Hello again my lovely readers! I don't have an actual sequel for this fic yet, but I have been doing some little extra scenes that came to me after reading a few 'Naruto Character Boyfriend Scenario' fics, and I thought it might be fun to use a few of those titles to write some little one shots for Luna and Kiba.
I'm posting this first one on the end of this fic as a little preview, but the rest will follow on the new story I'll make for them.
Enjoy, and as always, disclaimer!
When he's being affectionate
(A/N: This one can also be classed as 'When they go to a festival', because well, it's set at a festival…)
Glancing down at their clasped hands, Luna couldn't hold back a slight blush as she diverted her gaze.
It wasn't very often they displayed any sort of open declaration of their relationship, despite the obvious longing the Inuzuka had to do so sometimes. She suspected he held back a lot because of her. Perhaps it was because of her shy nature when it came to this sort of thing, or the deep ingrained teachings she'd grown up with to never become close to someone outside her own clan. Either way, she appreciated his restraint in public.
Today though, it seemed, had been too exciting for him to resist.
It was the first day of the two-week-long Five Nations Peace Festival, which this year was beginning in their very own Leaf Village. The festival marked the yearly anniversaries of the end of the Fourth Great Shinobi War, where each nation would host market stalls, fairground games and various product shows for a few days in turn. The highlight of the Leaf's turn was it's finale, a grand firework display in which ninja from the village would create their own versions of fireworks, in a competition of sorts.
Luna had to admit, she found it funny how the Leaf ninja managed to turn almost everything they did into a competition. And needless to say, Kiba was at the forefront of the running, along with Rock Lee and Naruto Uzumaki.
She was currently being dragged through the crowded streets of Konoha as the eager Inuzuka followed his nose to the nearest stall selling endless variations of Okonomiyaki, something he'd been impatiently waiting for, for weeks. He'd become even more excited once he had learned Luna had yet to have ever tried it.
The she-wolf chuckled as he broke into a series of grumblings with Akamaru about the size of the queue when it came into sight, though she was slightly relieved to gain a few extra minutes to decide what exactly she'd like to order.
It shouldn't have come as a surprise to find herself being led to a Takoyaki stall almost immediately after swallowing the last bite of her pancake.
And after the third food stall they visited, her full belly forced her to politely decline eating at the next five. Kiba, on the other hand, didn't seem phased in the slightest, and she wondered absently where he was managing to fit such an incredible amount of food. Even Akamaru had stopped eating by stall number six.
Somewhere along the way, they bumped into Team Guy, which of course ended in a heated debate over whose firework was going to take the prize this year. Luna found solace in a quiet conversation with Tenten while the boys argued, breaking away to temporarily play a few rounds of gun-shooting.
When the others caught them up, Luna had to roll her eyes as this, too, became a new form of competition. She was amused to see Tenten join in with them on this one, and enjoyed very much when the natural weapon user put all three boys to shame and won herself a rather large panda plushie.
By the time the firework event rolled around, Luna was more than curious to see what everyone was so hyped up for. Kiba had been especially secretive about his creation, which would have bothered the she-wolf had she been even remotely interested in the show before tonight. Truthfully, she'd never been much of a firework fan. The loud noises were disruptive to her sensitive hearing and with her heightened night vision, the colours could be blinding against the black sky.
However, she had withheld her distaste for the explosive light show. How could she complain when it was all the Inuzuka and his friends had been rambling on about for the past few weeks?
Kiba had picked out the perfect spot for the show, on the roof of the old council building on top of the Kage Mountain. Luna had always liked this view, finding that the calming glow of warmly lit lanterns lining Konoha's streets complimented the evening hues well. It would be a lie to say she wasn't pretty contented with their location.
It was just the two of them now, Akamaru having disappeared with Hana and the Haimaru brothers as the evening had settled over the village.
"I'm surprised there aren't more people up here for the firework show." She commented off-handedly, forcing herself to relax as she sat in front of the dog-trainer, his legs out-stretched either side of her.
He hummed, his chin resting on top of her head. "Most people like the buzz of the crowd while the show's going on, I guess."
"Don't you?"
"Not bothered either way." He shrugged nonchalantly before she could worry he was missing out on anything. "Besides, this way I get to do this as much as I want without you freaking out on me."
He nuzzled his nose into the back of her neck and inhaled deeply, a chuckle rumbling in his throat as he felt her breathe out sharply, suspecting there was an eye roll to accompany the huff.
"Whatever you say." Her ears flattened slightly as if to further voice her disapproval of his actions, but with the way his arms were secured around her middle, she was sure he'd have felt her increase in heart rate. "How long till this firework show is meant to start anyway?"
"Any minute now. They do an opening display for a few minutes, then they move onto the competition entries. After that there's another routine display and then the finale."
"Sounds very extravagant. How long does it la–" Her question was abruptly cut off when a loud boom exploded in the sky overhead, Luna jumping slightly at the sound. She growled a little at Kiba laughing at her expense, then fell quiet when he leaned his head forward to rest on her shoulder.
She turned her attention back to the sky, ears flickering this way and that at each new eruption of colour, the theme for the opening display being pastel colours mixed with flashes of silver, which looked like an array of falling stars as they each fizzled out into blackness. The opening fireworks ended with an impressively large circle of lights, shooting up from all around the circumference of the village, seeming to come together in the centre overhead, in a dome of silver sparkles.
Okay, so that was a little more impressive than anything Luna had seen before… Not that she was going to admit that out loud.
When the night fell into temporary silence again, the hybrid cast a sideways glance at Kiba, who was watching her oddly.
"What's with that look?"
"Do the fireworks hurt your ears?" He asked bluntly.
"E-errr…" She stammered, surprised he'd deducted that assumption without any form of hints. "Actually, it's not so bad from up here. Maybe it's 'cause the sound is echoing around the village rather than bouncing up the mountainsides."
It was the truth. Usually the sound reverberated through her ears making her very brain itself shake, but so far, tonight hadn't been so bad.
The dog trainer let out a sigh, his brow furrowed slightly. "You shoulda said something sooner."
Luna shrugged. "Like I said, it's fine up here. Besides, everyone was so excited about the fireworks I didn't see the point in mentioning it."
"Aw, you do care!"
"Shut up, Mongrel."
He snickered as she crossed her arms stubbornly, the action somewhat hindered by his arms around her waist and making it seem more like she was hugging him back.
"The competition ones are about to start now. I bet I can guess who each one belongs to!"
She didn't doubt him. In fact, she even joined in on the guessing herself after realising pretty quickly that everyone had tailored their firework to something very specific to themselves or their team.
Naruto's was an intense spiral of blue, white and silver that spun in a large arc over the Hokage tower, almost perfectly mimicking the motion of his signature jutsu, rasen-shuriken. Sakura's was a dead centre explosion overhead, that broke apart into tiny pink and white petal-like sparkles that fell and faded from the sky before they reached the ground.
Sai, being an artist, made arguably the most intricate of fireworks. With only the use of white and silver, somehow recreated an entire outline of the Leaf village itself, each landmark outline lining up directly above each of its counterpart, real-life models. The school over the school, the hospital over the hospital and so forth. The detail was incredible, even down to the 'a' and 'n' kana on the entrance gates.
There was some debate between the she-wolf and the Inu nin over which was Rock Lee's, and which was Might Guy's, as both had used identical colours and timings, the only difference being their positions in the sky. Luna wondered aloud whether or not that was intentional, to which Kiba had scoffed, probably not, knowing them. Those two practically shared the same brain waves.
Tenten's resembled twin, upward-moving spirals of red and gold, their colours mingling together in a vibrant implosion in the centre at the top, which was so far one of Luna's favourites. There were a few others from people Luna was either unfamiliar with or had simply not met that Kiba filled her in on, and then it came to his teammate's submissions.
It seemed that Hinata and Neji had worked on something together, a stunning collaboration of varying shades of purple fizzing and popping like the motions of a bath bomb. And as for Shino… Well Shino's could either be described as a sprinkling of lights covering the entire sky in what might have been stars, or fireflies. Luna suspected the latter.
From the way he was practically bouncing behind her, the hybrid could tell it was about to be Kiba's turn before the firework had even been set off.
She bit her lip to stifle the contagious grin he was infecting her with, tail lifting and falling lightly in anticipation. The she-wolf would be dammed to admit she was actually looking forward to this one, after all his annoying secretiveness about it.
Only, when it finally did light up the sky before them, she could no longer hold back her reaction. She wasn't even aware that her jaw had dropped until she felt him nuzzle his cheek against hers, and sent her a teasing wink.
It wasn't the most detailed of the night's works, but it was by far her favourite.
It was a three-part display, the middle firework somehow forming the shape of a silver 'C', or for those who knew him (and Luna) well, a crescent moon. Either side of the moon symbol shone an upside-down, crimson triangle, framing the middle symbol in a striking contrast of colour. The display filtered out into black sooner than Luna would have liked, the obnoxiously loud booming of the rest of the show barely seeming to affect her.
And when the very last of the fireworks had faded, Luna finally met Kiba's prideful gaze.
"So, what didja think?" He grinned with child-like glee.
And the hybrid hadn't the heart to deny him this time. "Okay, you win. That was pretty impressive."
He chuckled and patronisingly touched his nose to hers. "Why, thank you, Princess. I know how hard that must have been for you to admit. God forbid if it ever got out that you actually approved of something I did, right?"
"Right." She stuck her tongue out in mock disgust, twisting around to face him properly. "So, don't get used to it."
"Then I shall treasure this moment forever!"
Flashing a smirk, he quickly cut off whatever retort she had planned with a sudden searing kiss that had her tail curling around her side, her hands gripping the front of his jacket in surprise. She hummed against his mouth as his tongue traced her lower lip, pulling him in deeper as her lips parted.
The she-wolf didn't need to admit out loud how he made her feel when they were alone together like this. It was pretty obvious in the way her heart was doing little somersaults with every breathe that mingled with hers, and the involuntary shudders that would creep up her spine as he trailed his mouth down her jaw and to the side of her throat. Her fingers tangled in the hair at the back of his neck and he inhaled her scent again.
His head lifted to press their foreheads together, onyx eyes sliding open lazily as she stared back with equal intensity.
It was in these quiet, shared gazes that they conveyed the most important things. Like those three little words that had never outright been spoken.
And somewhere along the way, it had become a sort of game of who would be the one to say it first. And while Luna was nowhere near as competitive as Kiba, she matched his nature in stubbornness.
Perhaps they would never say the actual words, but either way it didn't matter. The words didn't need to be said out loud.
They just knew.
A/N: So this was just one of the scenarios I've been working on by way of a sort of sequel to The Inu and the Okami. I will be posting these under the new title 'The Inu and the Okami: One Shots'.
Hope you like them, see you there!
