Chichi decided to start her birthday celebration by buying a present for herself. She went to the mall to look for something special. After browsing a couple of stores without finding the right present, she decided to buy something that she wished Goku would have gotten for her. She stopped by a jewelry store and saw this very thin bracelet with a little turquoise around. It was beautiful, modest, yet elegant. She did not hesitate to buy it.

After her purchase, she decided to treat herself to cake. She went to this nice cafe with a patio in front of a lake. She sat there enjoying the sunset while eating a delicious cake. Not Goku's favorite cake or her sons' choice, but her own. This was a small detail, but meant a lot to her since she did not pick many of her favorite things. She usually went for what her family would like.

Meanwhile at Mt. Paoz Goku and Goten were trying to wash the dishes. It was not going too well. The saiyans struggled with their strength and broke many plates already. "Son, you need to be careful. Your mom is going to be upset when she finds out we broke so many plates".

Goten: Dad, you broke most of them and I will tell her so if she asks.

Goku: Common' son, we are on this together. I wonder when your mom will be back. It is dark already.

Goten: Dad, look, a plane just landed. It must be mom.

Goku: No, son. That is Gohan and Videl's energy.

Gohan entered the house with presents and a huge cake. As soon as he entered he screamed, "Happy birthday, mom!" He realized that it was only his dad and brother in the house making a disaster in the kitchen.

Gohan: Hi dad, where is mom?

Goku surprised and confused: Birthday? What do you mean by birthday?

Goten: Oh no! We forgot mom's birthday!

Goku: I feel terrible. That is why Chichi was sad today.

Gohan: What do you mean you forgot. It is here in the calendar.

Goten: I never look at the calendar.

Goku: I didn't know we had a calendar. What am I going to do? I can't believe I failed her.

Gohan: Dad, don't be too hard on yourself. It is my fault too. I usually let you and Goten know a few days before, but I have been so busy with my new job that I completely forgot to tell you. I should have called her this morning, but I had meetings all day.

Goku: I need to get a calendar. I feel terrible. Chichi is so happy on her birthday and I made her sad. I am going to go find her.

Goku used instatrasmition to find Chichi. She did not look sad anymore. She seemed to be enjoying the moment. She was eating cake and sipping some tea. Goku was happy not to see the sad look on her face. He could take all of Chichi's moods, even the super hype angry one, but he could not take her sadness, especially when it was because of his fault.

Goku: Happy birthday, babe! I didn't mean to forget your birthday. I am very sorry. I need to get a calendar.

Chichi: Thank you, Goku. It is okay. I celebrated my birthday. I even got myself a present.

Goku: What did you get?

Chichi: This bracelet

Goku: It looks very pretty on you. I will get you a special present. Forgive me for the delay.

Chichi: Don't worry. I do not need anything. I am happy with the present I got myself.

Goku: But, Gohan has more presents for you and a cake. Let's go, they are waiting for you.

Chichi: Gohan remembered?

Goku: Yes, he could not call you earlier because he had meetings all day, but he knew it was your birthday. Please come with me. They want to wish you a happy birthday.

Chichi: Okay, Goku.

The couple used instatransmition to get back to their home. Their children were waiting for them to celebrate Chichi's birthday. They ate cake and Chichi opened her presents. She smiled, but her eyes were sad. She was grateful that her oldest son remembered and prepared a nice surprise for her, but hurt that her husband could not remember her birthday. She also realized that he only knew about her past birthdays because Gohan told him all those years, not because he bothered to care.

She did not ask for a lot from her relationship. She learned to accept Goku as he was and still loved him with all his flaws, but she still wanted to feel special, even if it was just once a year. She loved Goku. No question about it, but did he love her?

She also remembered that she enjoyed her time alone that day, doing things that she wanted to do. She felt she was missing something in her life and spending the afternoon alone made her realize she needed more "me time".

After Gohan and Videl left, Goku approached Chichi with a playful smile.

Goku: Goten is sleeping already. What about if we go to the room to celebrate your birthday.

Chichi: I am tired from today. I think I am just going to read the book Videl got me.

Chichi sat on the sofa and opened the book. Goku thought the Chichi might still be upset since she never declined that type of proposal.

Goku: Chichi, why don't you come to bed to read your book?

Chichi: That is okay, I don't want to lay down yet. Go ahead, I will meet you in bed later. Don't wait for me.

Chichi did not go to bed that night. She read some of the book and slept for a few hours on the sofa. She could not sleep anymore, since she had a realization about her "me time". She wanted to train again and rediscover the person she was before being a wife and a mother. She remembered she was a martial artist.
