The weeks were passing and Goku still did not have a present for Chichi or an idea what could be the perfect present for her. He wanted to show her that he loved her and wanted to stay married to her. Goku decided to visit Capsule Corp. Bulma could help him pick something, or at least let him borrow the dragon ball radar so he could wish for the perfect present.

Father and son made it to Capsule Corp. Goten immediately disappeared with Trunks while Goku and Bulma talked.

Bulma: So what do you need the Dragon Balls for this time? Did anything happen or is there a new enemy coming?

Goku: I need to get the perfect birthday present for Chichi. It is very important.

Bulma: Chichi's birthday was months ago…

Goku: I know, but I forgot and she is really mad. Wait, she is not mad, she is sad.

Bulma: Oh no, that is even worse

Goku: Well, the worst part is that she is thinking that maybe we should not be married anymore.

"It took her long enough", Vegeta interrupted. Goku with an upset tone, "Hey Vegeta, that's not nice to say".

Vegeta: What do you mean? You will have the freedom to do whatever you want without having to listen to your woman telling you what to do and putting you to work.

Bulma: VEGETA! What type of marital advice is this? Goku, don't listen to this grumpy man. You and Chichi are meant for each other. You can fix this. I will help you.

Goku: Thank you, Bulma! Please tell me what should I get her?

Bulma: Let me think… Let's start with a nice date… Dinner! Flowers! I will make a reservation for you two for tonight.

Goku: She can't tonight. She left for 10 weeks to train. She should be back in two weeks.

Vegeta: To train? Aren't you the one who trains while she stays home?

Goku: Well, she wanted to retake her training and do more things for herself. She used to practice martial arts before we got married.

Bulma: Didn't you know that, Vegeta? She is fighert too. Actually, Goku and Chichi announced their engagement at the World Martial Arts Tournament after Goku knocked her out of the platform.

Vegeta: She must be a weakling like all of the Earthlings

Bulma: An Earthling for sure, but she can kick Goku's ass and I am sure yours too.

Vegeta: Grrrr

Bulma: Did you also know you are not the only one royal in the group?

Vegeta: What?

Bulma: Chichi is a princess, so that makes Goku a price, the Ox prince. You are the prince of saiyans and Goku is a saiyan who is a prince. You too have so much in common.

Vegeta: Grrr

Bulma: They should make a TV show about it. The Saiyan prince and the Ox prince fighting bad guys across the universe

Vegeta: The Ox prince, what a joke.

Bulma: So anyway, where is Chichi now?

Goku: She said she was going to the mountains, but I arranged for her to stay at Tien's school.

Vegeta: So you are saying that you arrange for your woman to stay at another man's house as a nice gesture to save your marriage? You are a lot dumber than I thought.

Goku: I don't understand what you mean? Chichi's safety is what matters the most to me, so I made sure she had a safe place to stay.

Vegeta: Right… Hey Bulma, do you want to move in with Yamcha for a couple of months?

Bulma: Oh shut it, Vegeta! Goku, you are right. It was nice of you to make sure Chichi is safe. I think you need to plan a date. Where was your first date, maybe you want to relive that?

Goku: Our first date.. Let me think… I remember! We did some light sparring in front of the lake near her castle and ate apples.

Bulma: Such a not usual date, but it is so you two. Do that again. She will have no doubts after that.

Goku: That is a great idea. It will make her so happy.

Bulma: I will help you prepare the most perfect picnic basket with the softest blankets, because you might need them after this perfect date.

Goku and Goten returned to their home in Mt. Paoz after staying a couple of days at Capsule Corp planning the perfect date with Bulma and fighting with Vegeta in the gravity chamber. After Goten went to bed, Goku took a bath in the outdoor bathtub to relax and think while staring at the stars. He remembered all the times that he shared a bath with his wife. They have spent long periods of time apart in the past, but he always came back to Chichi. This was the first time that he was not sure if Chichi was going to come back to him.

Goku loved Chichi and wanted to make her happy, but he was not sure if he was capable of it. He would sacrifice his life for hers, but could not live the lifestyle that she wanted for him. He was committed to never forgetting her birthday again and showing his appreciation for her more often, but he could never stop training. He was happy with Chichi, he enjoyed how she was strong willed, how she smelled, how pretty she looked with her hair down, even how she yelled at him. But, could he make her happy? For a second he thought that maybe Chichi was right and it was best not to be married, but that thought left his mind quickly, because Chichi was part of his woke up a part of him that made him the most vulnerable, yet the most powerful. Chichi made him whole.

Chichi was staring at the same stars from Tien's school, thinking that the 10 weeks were coming to an end and she needed to make a choice. She missed her husband and sons, but enjoyed this break and doing something for herself. She was proud of the man Gohan had become and happy to raise Goten to be a good person as well. Her family was her priority, which will never change, but she had to admit to herself that she needed a break here and there.

When it came to Goku, undoubtedly, she loved that saiyan. He was always going to be that free spirited warrior that she fell for as a girl. But now she was a woman and wanted stability. He was never going to get a job and stay at home like she wanted. Financially speaking, they had been able to and comfortably live with Chichi's inheritance. She made the smart decision to invest some of it in Capsule Corp so they have had a reliable source of income. Having Goku work was a way to make him have a responsibility to his family and more importantly, to have him around. Chichi loved Goku and also wanted him to be happy. That life that she wanted, did not align with the life that would make Goku happy. So maybe it was time to go their separate ways.
