I hope you all liked the trailer for this possible story. Before the actual story is started, I would like to go over a few things regarding the Destiny half of the story, and that involves some game mechanics. I'm bringing this up specifically because there is quite often a big difference between novels and games and that is in regard to what characters are able to do and cannot do. For example, in the Destiny games, you as the player are only able to have one Exotic weapon in your primary loadout at a time, this is to keep the game balanced and fair for all players. For my story, I will essentially be ignoring this fact because there really isn't any reason why Ryan wouldn't be able to use powerful weapons. So, for this story, Ryan can use multiple exotic weapons at a time and most of these weapons in question will have some sort of significance to the story/lore of Destiny.
Weapons like the Ace of Spades, Young Wolf's Howl, Dreadfang, and Whisper of the Worms are all weapons that hold some sort of great significance to the lore of Destiny. I will admit, the Ace has more of a sentimental value compared to Whisper which is the literal remains of a Hive Worm God formed into a weapon, but both have importance to the story and lore of Destiny. While we're still on the topic of weapons, I will be changing how specific weapons work/function. Going back to the Whisper, I think it's perfectly reasonable to make the Sniper Rifle stupid powerful because it is literally made from a Hive Worm God who are second only to the Darkness itself, a Paracausal force of the universe. Admittedly, Xol is the weakest of the Worm Gods but still a god regardless. The reason we don't see this in-game is because of balancing; in lore, it's insanely powerful.
Another weapon that I believe is allowed to be more powerful than what it currently is is the Dreadfang. I'll be honest, I really only included this sword because I think it is cool, having a Taken sword, but it got me thinking: despite being a legendary weapon and not an exotic, the idea of this weapon is very interesting to me. Thanks to the lore video for swords in Destiny, provided by My Name is Byf, the idea of Dreadfang as a concept is pretty haunting. You should definitely watch the video, the whole thing might be a bit confusing but it is definitely interesting. The video is called "Destiny Lore - Swords and the Dreadfang, A sword of Darkness (Extra Lore)". Just put this into Youtube and watch the video, but I digress.
I'm sure you get the idea at this point; if the weapon comes from a stupidly powerful source, I believe it is reasonable for that weapon to be equally as powerful, if slightly less. But since I will be portraying these weapons so powerful, they will see limited use because of that reason. Essentially, if Ryan's only option was to use the Whisper of the Worm against the Reapers to prevent them from doing whatever it is they are doing in the story, he will use it only in the most necessary of situations. So no spamming godlike weapons.
Okay?
Alright, moving on.
This next part is mainly about Ryan himself as a Guardian. Now, in lore, Guardians are extremely powerful and it does show in-game at certain points, but I believe they have so much more potential. I guess I should mention that Ryan Phalanx would basically be THE Guardian, the one we would create. So, for this story, Ryan would have accomplished everything in the game from every raid, striker, dungeon, story mission, side mission, quest, bounty, to defeating every boss and everything in between. So, essentially he would be insanely powerful and would no doubt have a ton of skill as well despite not even being 6 years old at this point in time.
I went on Reddit not too long ago and asked if Guardians are limited to one specific element, like in lore a Guardian would be limited to only Void, or Arc, or Solar, but that is not the case. Guardians mainly stick to the power they are most proficient with. For this story, Ryan would be proficient with all of them as we players are somewhat perfectionists and want everything. If that was the case, I believe it is reasonable to display Ryan with the ability to switch between powers mid fights and also be able to use other weapons while using his Supers. Again, no reason why he shouldn't be able to in lore, but in-game, balancing issue.
One other thing to mention is that obviously if Ryan completed everything, his light level would be at its peak. So, I believe it is reasonable to place his light level at around 1,000, 1,100, or 1,250; whichever you believe is more likely.
With everything I've listed, I know it sounds like I am making Ryan out to be the male equivalent of a Mary Sue: basically a perfect character with no flaws and is stupid strong. I assure you I have no intention of making it so in the story; just because he has the power to do all this doesn't mean he will use it all the time. So, for the majority of the story, he will show a great deal of restraint and won't be flashing his abilities left and right, he will mainly keep a low profile, especially around Cerberus and the Illusive Man. So, Ryan will keep his abilities and his origin, for the most part, a secret and won't reveal them for a while, not until the Hive get more involved.
The next thing I want to talk about is pairings.
I don't have a specific pairing in mind for Ryan, so for the story, I'm going to play it mainly by ear. I give Ryan ample interaction with all the female characters and whichever is most favored will result in the main pairing down the line. So, much like the game Mass Effect, the relationships will develop and Ryan could end up with either F. Sheppard, Miranda Lawson, Kasumi Goto, Liara T'soni, Tali'Zorah bar Rayya, Kelly Chambers, Ashley Williams, or someone new entirely. As is the case with Mass Effect, there will be some romance/lemon scenes in this story so it will fall that this story will be rated M.
I am considering bringing characters over from the Destiny universe to help take on the Hive when the story reaches that point, but it will not happen for a while. Speaking of the Hive, there are some things I want to go over first before we get into the story. Firstly, I have done research on both the Reapers and the Hive, and after reviewing everything, I believe that the Hive has a rather large advantage over the Reapers and poses a bigger threat in the grand scheme of things.
...
Look, any Mass Effect fans who are heading to the reviews to try and counter what I said, just hear me out first, okay? Alright.
The reason I believe the Hive as a bigger advantage and are more dangerous is what resources they have at their disposal. The Reapers have highly advanced technology at their disposal, the mass relays and the Citadel are examples of such, and are responsible for harvesting the galaxy's sapient life once every 50,000 years for the last 37 million years. On top of having vastly superior weapons and tech, the Reapers also have a power source that seems to violate the laws of physics but is not unlimited. In a way, they are similar to the Vex from Destiny, but only marginally; but, they are not without vulnerabilities.
While they have the tech advantage in the Mass Effect universe, they can suffer setbacks with the right gear, intelligence, and planning, which is true for most things I suppose. On top of planning, the Reapers do not posses Quantum Shields, only Kinetic ones, which can be worn down over time, or with specific weaponry or enough firepower can bypass the shield altogether. There are some other shortcomings, but I'll stick with the main ones to keep this as concise as I can.
Now, for the Hive and Oryx. The reason I believe that the Hive, Oryx, and by proxy, the Taken, hold an advantage of danger and power is due to the fact that they are able to access powers that go beyond the limits of our universe. I mean, they serve the Darkness a Paracasual force of the universe and have been granted immeasurable because of it. The Hive regularly rip holes, in reality, to get their ships where they need to go with absolute ease, songs that literally kill anyone who hears it from start to end and have been killing things for much longer than the Reapers have by a long shot. According to Destiny lore, the Hive and Oryx have been killing things longer than the Earth has existed, which is approximately 4.6 billion years and haven't stopped at any point as there is no indication as such in the lore of Destiny. Now, before anyone says that the Reapers have an edge when it comes to technological advancement, this is true, but the Hive really doesn't need technology when Ascendant Hive and Hive Gods are able to break the laws of physics and reality themselves and can't die true deaths outside of their Throne Worlds. No to mention, their ships are much bigger than any known Reaper vessel. The largest Reaper vessel I have found is approximately 120 meters or about 2 km. Oryx's flagship, the Dreadnaught is approximately 3,475 km in length! That's the same size as our moon's diameter! Not to mention it has a superweapon that created a hole in Saturn's rings that stretches well over 12,115km at maximum to 8,750km at a minimum given the perspective of the hole it can vary. Regardless of the hole's diameter, the weapon annihilated everything that was caught in the wave when it fired.
So, yeah, the Reapers have got crazy advanced tech, but they are still bound by the laws of physics whereas the Hive and their Gods are able to outright break them without any issues at all and have far more experience than the Reapers by several billion years. Not to mention, even if the Reapers develop a way to fight the Hive and Oryx, Oryx has the power to Take anything that exists and corrupt/bend whatever or whoever he Took to his will and have them fight for his cause. This is something that Oryx actually did as it is documented in the Book of Sorrows from Destiny. So whatever advantage the Reapers come up with, Oryx can make it his own and turn it against them.
Mass Effect fans, I'm sorry, but when compared to the Hive, Oryx, and the Darkness; the Reapers are child's play for them. Heck, even a Mass Effect fan I spoke to on Reddit even admitted that the Hive would, and I quote: "The Reapers have nothing against the Hive." While the Reapers do have indoctrination, that can easily be bypassed when the Taken are involved since they have no free will of their own and I'm willing to bet that Oryx's will is far stronger than anything the Reapers could try to use against him.
I think I covered everything relevant or everything I wanted to go over first, so yeah, that's really all I got for now. I'm still fine-tuning some things regarding the lore for both Destiny and Mass Effect so the story won't start for a while. But if anyone has any possible facts I may have missed about Mass Effect, let me know now, I want to get everything straight and clear before I start the story.
