I know I technically should be working on my other fic, but inspiration spoke and I had no choice but to listen. Here's some fluff to lighten up these chaotic times. :)
Marinette was walking home peacefully after a long day of school, when an unexpected arm appeared out of an alley. The hand grabbed her wrist and pulled her to join them in the alley. Flat against the wall of a brick building was her boyfriend, emerald green eyes darting around anxiously.
"Adri—?" He slapped a hand over her mouth before she could finish, pulling her closer to him so he could hear his whispered words.
"The bakery's not too far," he observed, peaking a head around the corner. "We need to get there, quickly and stealthily."
"Ah," Marinette drew out the noise, giggling a little. "That advertisement for the new cologne came out this morning, didn't it?"
"Unfortunately," he grunted. He gestured to a sack Marinette just now realized he was holding. "I had to grab some things and I was bombarded by fans."
Marinette only shook her head before sneaking Adrien to her house, the trip taking twice as long as it usually would have due to the constant ducking into alleyways and hiding behind trees and garbage cans. When the two finally arrived at the bakery, Marinette had to briskly escort Adrien to her room before customers could recognize him.
"We made it," Marinette sighed before plopping down into her chair. Adrien set the sack by her sewing machine before pulling a chair directly across from her. He dramatically groaned as he leaned back in his seat, knocking over his sack as he let his arm flail to the side.
Four wheels of cheese went flying to the floor, their stinky odor leaving a trail of wafting disgustingness. Marinette plugged her nose and backed away from the stuff, looking at her boyfriend with curiosity. Adrien only gave a slight chuckle and gathered the cheese to put back in the sack.
"Why do you have four wheels of camembert?" Marinette asked, unplugging her nose when her sentence came out a little squeaky and weird sounding.
"Uh… because?" Adrien replied, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Do you eat all of this? Does your father know?"
"I don't need his parmesan to buy food," he replied, giving her a smug grin. Marinette groaned. Over the course of the year she had been dating Adrien, she had been the victim of his terrible puns.
"Must I cheese him with every decision I milk?" Marinette plugged her ears at this, groaning at his sense of humor. Adrien stood and pulled her fingers out of her ears, looking at her playfully.
"How dairy you plug your ears!" he laughed, which only earned an eye roll from her.
"Your puns are so cheesy," she said before slamming a hand over her mouth, eyes wide.
"Did you just make a cheese pun?" Adrien accused, smirking. Marinette shook her head profusely, denying her words. "Oh, yes you did. Do you think your puns are cheddar than mine?"
"Yes," Marinette said confidently, sticking her tongue out at him. He gasped dramatically, before launching at her, tickling her sides.
"I'll milk you laugh at my puns," Adrien said.
"You c-can't use… the s-same pun… twice," Marinette giggled out, attempting and failing to push his hands away.
"You're right, I can do butter than that, but I thought that one was so grate, I had to reuse it."
Marinette finally got a firm hold of his wrist and twisted his arm behind his back, grabbing the other one so he wouldn't be able to get free. Adrien's silence told her he was shocked at her strength, and Marinette giggled.
"Do you surrender?" she asked, pulling his arm upwards slightly.
"Ow, ow, yes," Adrien said, laughing.
"If I let you go, no more puns or tickles," Marinette told him, slacking on his arm a bit.
"Okay, okay," Adrien chuckled, leaping away from her as soon as she let go of his arms. "How are you so strong?"
"Hey, a girl's got to have some secrets," Marinette said, crossing her arms across her chest and walking back to her seat.
"Yes, Adrien said, kneeling down and resting his chin on her arm rest, "But a healthy relationship should have no secrets."
"Fine," Marinette huffed. "Bags of flour are heavy, and I have to carry them practically every day."
Marinette's hands wandered to Adrien's head, stroking his long, messy, golden hair. He melted into her hand, sighing as her magical touch massaged his scalp. A low, rumbling noise erupted from within his throat. Marinette's hands stiffened, then looked down at her boyfriend.
"Did you just purr?" she asked, squinting at him. Every day she learned something new about him, but this was unusual. It didn't help that after getting to know Adrien better he reminded her of her crime-fighting partner.
"Uh…" he stumbled, wracking his brain to explain what had just happened. "No, that wasn't me. I think the ground was shaking. Do you think there's an akuma?"
"Oh, no!" Marinette exclaimed. "We better get you to safety. Hide!"
"Relax, Chat Noir and Ladybug will take care of it," Adrien told her, worrying he only made things worse for himself.
"I know, but I still don't want anything to happen to you," Marinette gushed over affectionately, causing Adrien to become suspicious. She stuffed him in her closet, before running off.
"Marinette, come back," Adrien yelled after her, banging on her closet door. Why wasn't there a handle on his side?
He knelt down and slipped his fingers through the bottom of the door, wiggling them as a plea to let him out. The outside was silent, so he guessed Marinette had run off somewhere to get help. Something fell on his head, and he rubbed his scalp and searched for the offending object with the little light that crept through the cracks of the door.
An umbrella? In his hands was a black umbrella, and it was high quality, too. It looked like something his dad would buy. He ran his hands over the fabric, and found something had been threaded into it. Squinting to get a closer look, Adrien saw that in matching, barely noticeable, black thread was the name Agreste.
"Marinette!" he called, a small smile playing on his lips. "Is this the umbrella I gave you when we met?"
The closet door opened immediately, and Marinette snatched the umbrella out of his hands. She looked at him horrified and blushing, before pulling him out of the closet.
"You're Chat Noir, aren't you?" she accused, narrowing her eyes at him. The color drained from Adrien's face, and his jaw fell.
"N-no, of course not!" he denied, palms growing sweaty. "Why would I be Chat Noir? There could be no way I was Chat Noir. I mean, that's just ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous! Ha, I just said what Chloe always says. Isn't that funny? That was hilarious. Don't you think so Marinette?"
"I knew it," she exclaimed, folding her arms. "I've been dating you for a year, Adrien. You didn't think I'd eventually figure it out?"
"Well, I figured since you weren't around Chat Noir…" he mumbled, looking ashamed. He then snapped his head up to meet her eyes, his own wide and terrified. "Ladybug's going to be so mad."
Marinette only laughed. She wasn't mad, she was only amused that they had been dancing around each other the four years they had been super heroes. Especially since she had rotated between having crushes on Adrien and Chat Noir. She also knew Chat Noir had flirty phases with her and times when he only saw her as a friend.
"I'm sure she won't be that mad," Marinette assured him, still laughing at the thought of their love triangle—no, square—between only the two of them.
"What's so funny?" Adrien asked, his face wielding the expression he wears whenever he's oblivious to his surroundings.
"I'm just thinking about how we've been dancing around each other," Marinette responded. Adrien tilted his head, looking more like a confused dog than a cat.
"What do you mean? He asked, confusion etched into his voice.
"I mean, that you had a crush on me, and I had a crush on Adrien," she said, clearly enjoying his confusion.
"Yeah, that's why we're dating," he stated.
"Yes, but you had a crush on me as Ladybug first," I told him, smirking. I watched him process the information for several moments before he looked at me with awe written all over his expression.
"You mean I've been dating my superhero partner for a year and haven't realized it?!" he said slowly, eyes wide.
"That's what you're surprised about?"
"Well, yeah. Of course you're Ladybug. Both of you are quick-thinkers, incredibly intelligent, kind, generous, focused, extremely attractive—" he wiggled his eyebrows— "and the love of my life. Marinette, are you crying?"
Marinette was, in fact, weeping. She ran up to him for a hug, crashing into his chest and wrapping her arms around him. Adrien didn't hesitate to envelope her in an embrace. He closed his eyes and rested his head on hers.
"And of course you're my silly, sweet, pun-loving Kitty," Marinette whispered, tightening her arms around him. Adrien pulled back slightly so he could kiss her, before crushing her in a hug again.
When they finally pulled apart, Adrien laced their fingers together, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"I guess the cat's out of the bag now, Bugaboo." Marinette groaned.
"Adrien, we were having a moment!" she whined. "And I'm assuming you've been planning to say that for years!"
"You betcha," he said, donning a crooked grin. He tried to grab her other hand, but it was occupied by the umbrella that she was still holding.
"Hey, you never answered my question about the umbrella," Adrien said. Marinette's cheeks warmed, a pink blush blanketing her cheeks.
"Y-yes," she said. "It's the one you gave me."
"And you've kept it?" he said, a hopeful gleam in his eyes. Marinette nodded. He only smiled at her sweetly and reached into his pocket. He opened his closed fist and revealed a charm bracelet. Marinette gasped.
"You still have that?" she asked, running her pinky over a charm.
"There's never a time I don't have it with me," Adrien told her, pressing their foreheads together. Marinette, however, pulled away and opened the top drawer on her desk. Inside was her own charm bracelet, and she tied it onto her wrist.
Adrien attempted to do the same with his, but struggled to tie the knot. Marinette tied it for him, before clasping his hand in hers. He pulled her into a kiss, before pulling her into another hug.
"I love you," he whispered, fingers gently pulling out her hair ties and running through her raven hair. She smiled as his scent filled her nose.
"I love you, too."
