Pairings: Shinichi x Kaito
A/N: This is my first pairings fic. Using this chance to test out writing romance fics. Also, I really wanted to write something with Kaito and Shinichi. So, without a further ado HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHIN-CHAN. (Shinichi groaning in the background)
Fireflies are
special messengers
that whisper in
the night:
See!
Magic does
exist
-unknown
The light that illuminated his world
This was our secret place. A place we only knew about. Our safe heaven, none of us shared this place with their best friends or their parents, and we took delight in that. Our place, it was a field, but unlike any, this one was magical. Filled with stars, hundredths of them, close enough to touch.
At least that was what he said. For course I knew better, being the ever eight-year-old I was, pointed the obvious fact out. Of course, he pouted, telling me to have more of an open mind and be more imaginative. I would always say something along the lines of, I'm a detective, I'm always supposed to state the truth. He would cross his arms then pout. I found it cute, wouldn't tell it straight to his face.
We would sit cross-legged together, watching the fireflies go by. For a moment I would look at him, he was absolutely beautiful as the fireflies surrounded him. As he looked at the fireflies in awe, his eyes sparkling. It made me believe that magic might just exist.
The other boy who was about the same age, thought of an idea. He started chasing fireflies trying to catch one, clasping one in his hands, he sat across from me, "Look Shinichi, I caught one! Now I can make a wish," he said happily.
"Baro, it's not like it is going to come true."
"We will see about that. One day my wish will come true then will see about it," he stuck out his tongue like the child he was, closing his eyes he silently whispered to the firefly. He let it go, flying away carrying a silent hope.
My curiosity was piqued, taking the shot I asked, "What did you wish for?"
He shook his head, turning towards me, smiling he said, "It's a secret," he sing-songed.
"-ichi Shinichi! Sheesh I've trying to call out to you these last five minutes. Are you okay," concern laced in her voice.
"Sorry Ran spaced out for a minute. So, what were you saying again?"
Puffing her cheeks out she said, "You know you have to start paying more attention to when people talk to you," Shinichi laughed sheepishly, "as I was saying there for our last night here we all thought we go see fireflies together."
Fireflies, that brought a vivid memory to light, but as soon as he grasped it. It disappeared from his reach, back to the corners of his mind.
"Be sure to come down at six so we can all go."
"Sure," he made sure to remember it, he didn't want to stand up Ran again or he was going to have hell have hell to pay.
They were currently at a resort. His parents set it up, to get out Shinichi of the house and away from detective work. He protested, of course, stating that he had better things to do. His mom and Ran together were unstoppable force to be reckoned with, when they teamed up against him. Even Kaito, joined in to gang up against him. It definitely not how the cute magician gave him those eyes that he knew he wouldn't be able to say no to. Of course not. Traitors them all. That is how he found himself along with Ran, Hattori, Kazuha, Kaito and his two friends Aoko and Hakuba.
Him and Ran were currently sitting in the café which wasn't as packed. Shinichi saw her as she smiled talking about one thing or another. Her smile was bright. He thought to himself that it was not as bright as that person's smile, shaking the random idea away.
Shinichi began to think about the mysterious person in his dreams, since they have been here. From what he could make out of it, was they would always play in this secret place that no one knew about. It was only them, surrounded by a thousand stars. The thing was he could never remember the boy's face, he called his mom to ask once.
She said, "He was your childhood before Ran. I remember the two of you were the best of friends. Since I was studying under his father. You often beg me to take me with you. I have to go now. Bye Shin-chan," she hung up before he could get a name to put on the face.
He took a sip of coffee when Ran started to blush "Shinichi, I something important to tell you I have-"
Shinichi glanced at his watch, he couldn't believe it was this late already, standing up abruptly, he gulped down the what was remaining dark liquid apologizing to Ran as he ran out to go and meet Kaito.
The said magician was waiting just outside of their shared room, he is wearing a hood, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, black jeans and sneakers, spotting Shinichi running his way he pocketed his phone. Smiling brightly at him, Shinichi heart did a somersault in his chest. He caught his breath for a bit, Kaito watched in amusement.
"Shall we head on," Kaito said grinning towards him. Shinichi couldn't help but smile with him as they walked out of the hallway.
Night fell sooner than they could expect. Shinichi sat in comfortably on the couch with a book in his arms. He didn't watch the time close enough letting it slip by. Someone knocked on the door, leaving the book he was reading, worst part was how it was getting to the climax, groaning slightly.
He opened the door coming face to face with Ran. He looked at his watch seeing how late it was, smiling warily, "Sorry, I forgot. Let's quickly get down and meet up with everyone."
Ran shook her head tiredly, she then blushed as she thought of something, "Before we go, I have to tell you something. Well I-" she stopped internally debating, coming closer. She stood moving closer to Shinichi; he was mildly confused till he felt a pair of lips gently press against his. He widens his eyes in surprise. Ran pulled away, blushing madly.
They both jumped when they heard something. They looked at the Kaito who looked completely devasted, he expertly covered behind his poker face. No matter how hard he tried to cover it up Shinichi could see through him.
He said with a smile that didn't reach his eyes, "Everyone is waiting for you guys downstairs," running off as soon as he said it.
Shinichi shouted after him, "Wait Kaito," he had already run off.
He looked at Ran telling Ran, "Sorry Ran, but I don't feel the same. You deserve someone who won't always leave you, or someone who would be there for you on dates. You deserve someone better than me. I'm sorry," he didn't have to see her cry to know how heartbroken she was, he knew that she would comeback from this. Right now, he chased after his magician.
Shinichi couldn't keep up with Kaito as he rounded the corner Kaito seemingly disappeared. Kaito could have went anywhere. He didn't the time to search the entire place. Shinichi paused for a minute, he's mother had told him once that they had been here as a child and that he would wonder off to their secret place.
Kaito couldn't be there, could he. It was worth the short. If he wasn't there, he would look the entire place for him. He ran to that place he could vaguely recall.
He didn't know if Lady luck was on his side this time. His breath caught in his throat at the sight; Kaito was sitting cross-legged surrounded by fireflies, he looked upset, he didn't notice Shinichi yet. Shinichi didn't like the troubled expression the magician had, it felt wrong. He sat next to him, Kaito tensed ready to run if needed.
Shinichi grabbed his wrist before he could think of running, trapping him in place. Shinichi said, "Can we talk?"
"There is nothing to talk about Kudou-kun," his hair obscuring his eyes.
Shinichi didn't like how Kaito called him by his last name. He said, "Kaito won't you look at me," he lifted Kaito's chin so he would at him. Kaito looked wounded and it was because of him, it tore him inside.
"Kaito, I love you," he saw how Kaito how his eyes widen.
"About Mouri-chan, I saw you guys k-kiss," he couldn't finish without breaking down into tears.
"She kissed me, then I told her I didn't feel the same way. There is only one person I fell in love with."
"But she is a beautiful girl," he softly. Why did you choose me? Left unsaid.
" Yeah I know that but I love the way you smile, I love the way you would make coffee for me in the mornings, I love how you would wait for up for me after a case, I love when your flustered trying to cook. Kaito, I love you," he then kissed Kaito gently, he was about to pull back, having self-doubt when he felt him kiss back. They deepened the kissing, remembering the still needed to breathe. They pressed their foreheads; their breathing were the only things that could be heard in the still night.
Kaito spoke first, smiling softly, "Told you so. My wish came true."
