Ana

I want to run and not look back. I can't do this! Melissa is by my side and Grace has come with us too though she won't be allowed in the room. Christian has stayed at home with the kids thankfully as I know it's frustrating him that he doesn't know what's happened he's doing all he can to respect my wishes. I can't imagine how hard this is for him, he isn't even allowed to sleep in our bed right now because I don't want him to accidentally find my injuries. But he's being a perfect husband right now and doing as I ask.

"Hello Mrs Grey, we met before I'm Detective Meadows. If you'd like to come this way and we'll get you all set up. Can I get you something to eat or drink?" She walks and talks which is nice. The sooner we can get this over and done with the better though I know it's going to take several hours, Melissa has done all she can to prepare me for what's to come.

"Just some water please." I reply. "And call me Ana." I add as I don't want them to call me Mrs Grey, far too formal. I receive a sympathetic smile in return but I don't want sympathy. I just want to get on with it.

It takes a good half an hour for them to get all set up and my nerves are a wreck before we even start. Grace leaves when we settle down on the couch ready to begin. She can't be here for the statement. Meadows is joined by the Captain, another female thankfully a friendly and sympathetic older woman with short grey hair and a warm aura about her.

"Ok Mrs Grey, Ana..." Meadows starts. "Starting at the beginning, what happened on the afternoon of August ninth."

I knew where to start but I also know they'll start interjecting with questions while I talk.

"I was in my office at home, editing some photos on my camera to distract myself. Amaya had been missing for two days." My voice is hoarse and quiet but they don't seem to be bothered about that, they must be confident that the microphone on the table in front of me will pick up the sound to meet the video footage being captured by the camera facing me. It's an intimidating set up even in a very comfortable room.

"My phone rang. I was going to knock it off but when I saw it was an unknown number I was intrigued, no one calls me on an unknown number."

"Who was on the phone?" The Captain interjects.

"Jack Hyde" I reply meeting her eye.

"What did he say?"

"He asked me not to hang up. I think I asked him if he had my daughter and he assured me he didn't but that he knew who did."

"Did you believe him?"

"I don't know." I reply shrugging because I really didn't. I mean, I took a risk trusting him and I had to believe him, in my desperation to get my daughter back I'd have believed Satan himself.

"Carry on what else did he say?" Meadows pushes gently and Melissa gives my hand a soft and encouraging squeeze. She hasn't let go of me since we sat down and I'm grateful as I don't want her to.

We're in a very brightly lit room, all wood panelling and a room obviously often used by children from the small table and toy box in the corner. I'm sweating even though it's not that warm in this room, it's hard to talk about this.

"He said I had to trust him if I wanted Amaya back. Then he told me to meet him at the McDonalds by the parking lot for Bremerton Ferry at 4 o'clock and that he would be wearing a red baseball cap."

I take a small sip of water to wet my very dry mouth before continuing. I don't want to do this but I know how important it is to do so.

"At the McDonald's he told me he had avoided our security who was trying to track him down by following them so they couldn't follow him. He knew I was pregnant..." I shake my head. It's insane that he knew that when it wasn't big news at the time, all the security that had been brought in didn't know I was pregnant yet Jack Hyde did.

"Then what?" The Captain asks, prompting me to continue.

"He promised he wouldn't hurt me. Then he told me about the guy who he shared a cell with, someone who was obsessed about me and repeatedly raped him. He said this guy had my daughter, that he knew for certain he did but at the time he didn't know where he was. He sent me home and promised to be in touch with me as soon as he knew where Amaya was."

"Why didn't you tell anyone at this point?"

"Because he asked me not to. Told me if anyone was on to him I'd never see my daughter again." I reply shakily. I know I should have told someone but I had to save Amaya, that was my priority.

"Ana that's completely normal." Melissa says gently and I turn to look at her. "That you didn't tell because he told you not to and that you wouldn't see Amaya again. You did nothing wrong." She reassures and I nod but looking at the detective and Captain in front of me I'm not so sure they agree with her.

"After getting home and realising there was no news I went to our apartment in Seattle where I knew the security team were managing the case from." I continue feeling a little bit more confident now I know Melissa will interject too if necessary. "I wanted Christian to stop looking at Hyde for a bit and focus his energy elsewhere. I knew he was throwing all his efforts into finding Hyde first and my daughter second because he believed that Hyde had her and I was now pretty convinced he didn't."

"How did your husband take to that?" The Captain asks.

"It made him suspicious I think." I shrug. I mean now I think about it, it would have made me suspicious and I'm pretty sure he tracked me for a while after I had been to Escala as he called me to find out where I was.

"I was just getting into the car when my phone rang and Hyde told me that he had news and I was to meet him at Cafe Luna on Vashon Island."

"What time was it?"

"Around 6pm." I reply, I vaguely remember looking at the clock in the car. "I met him at the cafe and he told me he knew where she was and that he would take me to her but once we got to the location I was on my own. We left the island, took the ferry back to Seattle and then he took me to the house. Once the gate was open he told me I was on my own and I went up the drive to try find my daughter."

"At the house?" They prompt as I take another swig of a drink.

" I went in and called for someone, first room I entered there Amaya was asleep on the couch." I close my eyes as my heart begins to race in my chest. "Then Morton came in, my back was to the door and he came in and said 'we meet again Anastasia.' And I knew at that moment who it was and I think I knew what was going to happen too."

"How did you know it was Morton?" The Captain asks.

"He was my mother's third husband." I reply shivering. "I knew his voice. Didn't think I'd ever hear it again."

"What happened at the house?" The Captain asked bringing me back to the series of events that led me to be sitting in this room.

"I asked him if he'd taken Amaya and told him I knew about what had happened between him and Jack. I said I just wanted to take Amaya home and he said that I had to fulfil his fantasies first." I take a deep breathe and blow it out slowly. My heart is racing in my chest as we get closer to talking about the rape and beating.

"I told him I'd do anything as long as he didn't hurt Amaya and he pointed out he hadn't so far and I ... I thanked him for that." I cough to clear my throat and Melissa gives my hand a gentle squeeze.

"Are you ok to carry on Ana or would you like a break?" Meadows asks and I think for a second, a break would be nice but truth is if I stop now I don't know if I can continue. My behind is on fire sitting here even though it's on a soft couch, walking around would help but I know that's not possible due to the camera filming my statement.

"No I'm ok." I decide thinking I'd rather just get it over and done with. "He told me to strip." I say my eyes slipping close as I'm transported back to the moment. "I asked if we could not in front of Amaya and that's when he told me she had been drugged and wouldn't wake up." Another deep breath. I need to get through this but I'm struggling. "I started unbuttoning my blouse but I was shaking so much...he lost any patience he had and came over to me and pulled out a knife and just cut them from me. Once he had removed my clothes he grabbed my hair, yanked my head back and told me that he was going to enjoy it and I would to and when he was finished I could take Amaya and go."

"Did you want him to?" Meadows looks ashamed as she asks me this and I understand why she has to ask.

"No..." I choke. "But I didn't have a choice he had Amaya..." the first tear escapes and I quickly wipe it away. I don't want to cry, not now. "Still with his hand in my hair he forced me to my knees. He told me to get on my hands, released my hair so I could. I closed my eyes and tried to put my mind anywhere but that room...he removed what little scraps of my clothes were remaining, then he started touching me..."

"Where did he touch you?" The Captain asks softly, I know the importance of details here and that's why they're asking.

"He was stroking my butt." I manage. "I knew what he was going to do..."

"How?" Meadows asks, she knows what happened because she took my outcry statement but she looks captivated by my story.

"Because he threatened to do it to me when I was fifteen." I reply shakily. "When I lived with him and my Mom in Vegas."

"How close did he get then Ana?" The Captain asks.

"He came into my room with the belt in his hand and sat on my bed telling me how he was going to punish me for being such a naughty girl, all while stroking my leg."

"But he didn't?" She pushes and I shake my head.

"My Mom came home before he got the chance and he left me alone. I went to live with my stepdad then." I explain and they give a small nod. "I told him what Morton had done and he was happy to let me go back to him."

"So he was touching you then what?" Meadows prompts.

"Then he hit me, it sent me flying forward onto my face. Then he yanked me up so my behind was in the air and he hit me again and again and again, ten times in total before he penetrated me."

"How did he penetrate you?" The Captain asks.

"He put his penis in my vagina" I almost whisper this but Melissa had told me they would need to know exactly what was done in those terms. "He was raping me when Jack came in and told him to stop."

"How long?"

"I don't know. It felt like forever. But he didn't finish so... I don't know." I shrug, I wasn't exactly watching the clock so I don't know what they're expecting from me here.

"What happened when Jack came in?" The Captain prompts gently.

"He had a gun and Morton asked if he was planning on shooting him. Jack said he would if he had to. He slipped out of me and I went over to Amaya and pulled her to me. Jack told me to get out but I couldn't move. Stephen went for him and they were both fighting for the gun when it went off. Stephen tumbled to the floor and Jack ran over to me and put his coat on my shoulders and told me Christian was on the way."

And that's it. My story. I don't feel any better for having said it all out loud though. I take some water while I see Meadows and the Captain debate what to ask next.

"What's your history with Jack Hyde?" Meadows asks and I look surprised at Melissa. She gives me a nod, encouraging me to say.

"I was Jack's editor at Seattle Independent Publishing when I left college eleven years ago." I explain. "He...sexually assaulted me because I was Christian Grey's girlfriend. Then after being bailed, he kidnapped my sister in law and blackmailed me for five million dollars and then beat me up when I delivered it to him." I explain, he went to prison for it so they know what happened and I'm not quite sure why they're asking me about it all now.

"You never reported the sexual assault." The Captain says, it isn't a question but I shake my head anyway, Christian dealt with it I didn't need to go to the police.

"When Hyde called you or when you met with him before he took you to Morton, did you ever get the impression that he may have been involved?" The Captain asks and I glance nervously at Melissa, again though she just nods, silently encouraging me to answer.

"Not really. He seemed genuine when he begged me to trust him." I reply. "It was weird when he said he didn't know where she was while also telling me that if I told anyone I'd never see Amaya ever again."

"When he left you at the gate, did you believe he'd come to the house?"

"No." Ana replies shaking her head. "He said he couldn't and that he'd end up dead or back in prison if he came with me. I don't know what made him change his mind." I reply. "There's nothing more I can say..." I look at Melissa desperately. I want to go home now and I don't understand why all these questions about Hyde.

"Did you see the gun go off?" Meadows asks ignoring my desperate plea.

"No. They were fighting, I could only see Morton's back." I explain shakily. I've really had enough now and want this to end.

"Ok Ana that's all the questions we have for you for now." The Captain says and Meadows immediately turns the camera off. "We May call you back in if we have anymore but hopefully we'll get Morton arraigned tomorrow." I nod because my voice is failing me. Melissa stands though, prompting me to follow.

Christian

Ana has gone to the police station to give her statement and I'm sitting here in the office with Flynn after spending all morning with my children.

"Ana has barely seen the children." I say quietly. "She goes to check on the twins a lot in the middle of the night but otherwise she's locked away in her bedroom." I tell Flynn. I'm so worried about my wife and I don't have a clue how to handle all of this.

"Christian what she's been through. We can never know how someone responds to such trauma as they can all respond differently. Hopefully she'll be receptive to Tamara when she comes by to finally start working with her."

"She's refusing." I reply sighing. We've been trying to persuade Ana to see the shrink since she's been home but she's refusing point blank at the moment.

"Because she's not wanting to face it. That's normal Christian we just have to give her some time. Maybe when the physical injuries start healing."

"I don't even know what physical injuries she's got." I choke, no one will tell me exactly how Ana is injured because Ana has asked them not to.

"How are you coping with that?" Flynn asks softly and I roll my eyes at him, I'm not in the mood to have my head shrunk like this. "Well?" He pushes not taking my silence as an answer.

"I'm doing all I can to respect Ana's wishes." I reply bitterly because I know I'd be able to get it out of someone if I tried but I am taking every piece of strength that I have not to.

"Good." Flynn replies making me roll my eyes again. "She'll appreciate that Christian, even if it is frustrating for you."

"I just want to hold her, to tell her that she's safe but she won't let me near her. The few times I've been in to her after about ten minutes she tells me to leave as she wants to sleep. My Mum and that Melissa from the victim advocacy are the only people she'll let be with her for any longer than that."

"It's going to take time Christian, what she's been through, the trauma. While I wouldn't want this to go on for a long period of time right now it's what she needs to do and we all have to respect that, give her the space she needs."

"I'm scared I've lost her." I admit sheepishly, I've become more open with Flynn over the years and he rarely has to counsel me these days but right now I'm relying on him to get me through this.

"It's going to feel like that for a while Christian and this will change her. No one goes through something so traumatic and remains the same. But Ana is strong, so strong, she'll get through this."

I look at my friend and advisor wondering if he's right. I'm scared my Ana is lost and this shell of a woman that is currently in her place is a permanent fixture. I'm trying not to be selfish about it, but it's so frightening that I may never get my Ana back after this.
