Titanic's General Room
12:30 A.M
As they reached the general room, there were loads of people crowding certain areas of the room but mostly they were bickering at the stewards.
"It's not time to come up to the boats! Please remain calm." One of the stewards addressed as they used gentle words to hold the steerage passengers back. It wasn't out of sheer panic but more of curiosity and concern. The pink haired assassin looked towards the floor and back towards Joseph's emerald eyes.
"Something's up Joe! The ship feels like it's leaning a bit to the right." The pinkette acknowledged as she wasn't the only one to notice the sudden starboard list.
"Strange! We're they shifting coal again? She was listed a bit to port about an hour ago and now she's listing to Starboard." Joseph says as concern began to grab his attention. Not only was the ship leaning to the side a bit but she was leaning forward.
"And she's leaning forward, we're being told to put on lifebelts and now to wait until the boats are ready." The pinkette whispered as she leaned her head closer towards the other.
Joseph leaned towards another steerage passenger and tapped on his shoulder, his head turning to face his to wonder why his attention was grabbed. The lad was wearing a white button-down shirt while carrying a black coat over his upper section and black tight pants with blackened oxford shoes, blonde hair and combed to the back. "Excuse me? What's the reasoning behind this whole fiasco?"
The man kindly replied. "Oh! I heard we stopped because we ran into some Ice, according to what I've been hearing so far."
"Ice? Have we struck a berg or something?" Joseph asked as his brows raised a bit, his body was feeling a slight chill from this news.
"Possibly. And I heard that the captain has issued orders to prepare the boats but I don't see the problem. This ship can't be sunken that easily." The man replied with a tone that inspires confidence but Mine didn't buy this one bit.
"Okay! Thanks for the info." Joseph compliments the nice man for the needed info, turning his head to face Mine who carried an unamused look on her face.
Her arms were crossed as her eyes were gazing at his very soul. "Yeah! You know what I said about raising a few flags?"
"Y….Yeah." He replies.
"I believe we've found ourselves in quite a pinch." The pinkette says, placing her index and thumb onto her chin while giving him that "I told you so" look.
"Wait! Are you saying that this ship is going to-"
"Founder? A good possibility."
A sudden chill entered Joseph, his legs and arms were encased in ice as the flow of unfortunate news slipped into his ear canal. "That's unlikely! Are you sure about this?"
"The conditions seem quite favorable for such a scenario, don't you think?" The pinkette asked, she felt the chill through her frame too but she was more composed as she went through numerous deep pinches.
"There…..isn't enough boats for everyone on board." It was painful for him to admit this but it was the truth, only about twenty boats for about twelve hundred out of twenty two hundred passengers spelled imminent disaster.
"You've got to be kidding me! Why? That's stupid!" The pinkette ranted, at least in her world there was enough to satisfy everyone on board. Her fist tightly clutched as she was about to erupt in utter rage.
"Regulations! Half the boats would be disabled during a sinking so they were meant to be used as ferries to transport passengers to another nearby ship." He immediately informs the pinkette to prevent a misunderstanding.
"And what if there isn't a ship nearby? What happens then?" Her brows crossed even more as she leaned even closer towards his eyes, expelling that fearsome aura out of her frame.
"I…..don't want to imagine that."
"Why?"
"It's cold outside tonight and there's the fact that the waters are below minus two Celsius."
"In other words…..Anyone can die within minutes of entering these waters?"
Joseph was struggling to even say the answer to that question but it was already obvious to the pinkette.
"Then it's time that we leave!" The pinkette announced as she grabbed Joseph by the hand, escorting him towards the third class stairwell.
"Wait! We're supposed to wait for the boats!" Joseph stood his ground while keeping his grip on the pinkette's small hand.
"Forget it! More than half of the people on here will die and it's obvious that we're being kept here until the boats are gone." Whispering into his ears to prevent any panic from spreading.
It took a minute but he was making a decision whether to trust someone he just met or just wait until it's time to be called up but the chill was starting to freeze his body out of the thought of waiting to be let out. "A…..Are you sure? Are you sure that I can place my trust in you?" He asked, awaiting her answer.
"Yes! You'll be bowing before me and thanking me! I know you will." The pinkette replied with a shred of pride in her voice.
"O...Okay then! Let's go!" Joseph finally agrees with Mine's decision to find their own way out.
"Alright! You know the geography so be my humble guide! You've got a grandfather to see, Kid!" Dragging the boy by his wrist and rushing down the stairs towards the lower decks as if to find a way to escape to the boat deck.
Boat Deck
12:39 A.M
Meanwhile on the boat deck, the crew were busy setting up some extra lifeboats on the quadrant davits. On the port side is Charles Lightoller in charge of securing evacuation on their side. The strict law was only that women and children can enter, no men under any circumstances can enter these boats.
"Women and Children only! Step back sir! Come through madam." Gently and calmly the second officer called out towards the passengers as they started to fill the boat. Gesturing more women and children to enter the boats until the capacity was enough for satisfaction. Spreading his arms together and giving the command to lower away.
The crew released and gripped the ropes again and again as the boat made a rocking noise as it descended towards the freezing sea. Lightly lapping against the wooden hull as the ropes were released.
The oars were swung out and the passengers used to row themselves away from the sinking vessel so as to not get caught in the suction as she plunged.
Lots of things were on Lightoller's mind at the moment, the moment he even gets an opportunity to sleep the ship strikes a berg and now he's in charge of evacuating a sinking ship and this one is supposed to be acknowledged as a ship that has surpassed the need for distress signals or lifeboats. But it's like he's always known, no seaman ever thinks they're God.
There was a huge problem with loading the boats and that came to the countless first class passengers refusing to enter the boat, unknown to the whole ordeal. Preferring to say in the warm, safe ship rather than enter this unstable looking lifeboat with temperatures below normal despite the roles being swapped.
Back on the starboard side, Murdoch was placed in charge of the frontal boats but the result with the passengers' reluctance was the same. Ismay was beginning to panic as he walked slowly towards a lifeboat.
"There's no time to waste!" Ismay shouts as he grips onto the davit ropes and tugs violently onto them. "Lower away, Lower away!"
Fifth Officer Lowe noticed this and immediately tossed Ismay from the davits.
"Hey! Get out of the way you fool! You want to drown the lot of them?!" Yelled Lowe, trying to keep Ismay from prying his hands on the ropes.
"Do you know who I am?!" He asked, feeling slightly insulted.
"You are a passenger and I'm the ship's bloody officer, now do as you're told!" Said, Shouting at the face of the company's head without awareness. Ignoring Ismay and focusing on the boats.
"Yes….Quite right, S…..Sorry I….." And the owner of Titanic took that lecture to heart without barking back at his lowly ranked officer, it takes a lot of guts to yell at a superior officer, let alone the company's owner.
E Deck.
12:43 A.M
Mine and Joseph were rushing down the corridor, looking to the sides for possible entrances but none can be found so far.
"Say! Joseph! Do you know any other way to the boat decks?" Mine asked as she glanced towards Joseph's gaze, considering that he knows more about the entire ship gives her a pretty significant advantage.
"Not really! I've never explored those areas of the ship…..mainly because steerage passengers weren't allowed in those areas." Joseph spoke like he was in a rush.
"You've got to be kidding me!"
"Hey! What's your problem?! I'm just a steerage passenger! I can't be expected to know every place on this boat! What am I? Thomas Andrews?" Joseph barked at the pinkette with an agitated tone, his fist raised and crushed tightly as his teeth gritted lightly.
"Well…..I…..Oh….You mean?"
'Yes! I'm only familiar with the space around me in the stern. Everything else is uncharted territory for me Mine! And what have I done to deserve this attitude from you? I took you in and cared for you!"
"I never needed that from some stupid bumpkin like you! I can take care of myself!"
"Unconscious? You make the worst jokes Mine!"
"Forget it! Let's just try to find our way out!" Mine argues as she makes her steps towards the frontal part of the ship.
"No! You do that! I'm waiting with the rest of the steerage passengers." Joseph defies, turning back but just then it occurred to him. He has little idea of where the general room is now. "O….Oh! Right…...I have no idea where that is now." He says, rubbing his temple with his fingers.
"Yeah! Exactly! Now you're stuck with me!" Mine mocks, crossing her arms, a shit eating grin making an appearance on her face.
"Great! It's like a maze here! Finding our way out will take too long and who knows if this ship is going to sink or not."
"It is!"
"Quiet tiny!"
"Excuse me?! Don't you know that you're speaking rudely to a lady…..A classy one at that." Mine says, letting the sarcasm spill out of her toxic mouth.
"There's hardly anything classy about you besides your dress. Who knows! Maybe you're actually a first class woman trying to mess with my head, making such absurd lies about getting a "Better Life" in New York." Joseph taunts.
"You know what? Yea! I lied but telling you my real story would've had you dropping on the floor and laughing at me!"
"What could possibly be so bad that I would want to laugh at someone I just met?"
And that's where Mine actually hesitated upon telling the brunette the news he wants to hear. "I'm from…..another world." Mine finally admitted as her gaze was focused on the floor for seconds to come, awaiting the others' response.
