So, this is my 100th fic. Also, my first fic for this fandom (I know, seriously behind the times over here). Obviously, I don't own any rights to FMA. Enjoy!

Roy wasn't really one for emotional speeches or heartfelt moments. But if there was ever a time for either of those things, he figured it would be right about now. Especially considering that they had almost died less than ten minutes ago.

Capturing rogue State Alchemists on their own was pretty difficult. It got even harder when there was four of them, and they're all trying to kill you. Both Roy and Maes had been part of a team assigned to bring these Alchemists in. But something had gone very wrong and the two of them had ended up separated from the group and completely surrounded by the very people they had been tasked with capturing. Roy had threatened them with his Alchemy. This usually worked with most criminals they hunted down but, unfortunately, these people knew the Flame Alchemist by reputation. Also, it was raining. So, Roy's threats didn't really hit that hard. This had given them little choice but to run away as fast as they could. Which was why they were now huddled together down a dark alleyway, both breathing heavily and shivering as they hoped they had finally lost the people trying to kill them.

"You okay?" Roy whispered, noticing the long cut on Maes' shoulder.

"It's nothing, I've had worse," Maes joked with huffed laughter, which caused him to wince in pain and clutch at his side.

"You sure?" Roy asked sceptically, his hand hovering over Maes' arm.

"Okay, maybe a broken rib or two. But I'll be fine, I promise. What we really should be worrying about is how to get out of here," Maes sighed, looking around them for any possible ways out.

"Right..." Roy sighed, leaning back against the wall behind him. He breathed heavily and shut his eyes for a moment.

"What's wrong?" Maes' worried voice caused Roy to open his eyes once more.

"It's just, we almost died. You almost..." Roy's sentence trailed off as the reality of what he was saying caught up with him.

"But I didn't; I'm right here," Maes smiled softly, placing a finger under Roy's chin and gently pushing his face up to meet his eyes.

"I know," Roy smiled weakly "it's just, I don't know what I'd do without you,"

"You'd be fine without me," Maes raised an eyebrow and smirked. Suddenly, Roy reached out and held Maes' hands in his own.

"I'm being serious," Roy spoke softly but Maes saw the fear in his eyes "I'd be lost without you,"

A moment of silence passed between them as Maes felt his heart clench in his chest. They had been through so much together; the thought that it could all end with a single gunshot sent a harsh shiver through his body. Gently, he intertwined his fingers with Roy's, wanting nothing more than to feel closer to him.

"I'd be lost without you too," Maes whispered, the realisation of those words hitting him as they left his lips. Silence drifted between them, both of them knowing that they needed to move but neither willing to let the other one go.

"We should get moving," Maes eventually said, beginning to stand.

"Wait!" Roy said a little louder than was necessary, pulling him back down.

"What-" Maes started to ask but he was cut off by Roy's lips suddenly covering his own. His body relaxed instantly as he leaned into Roy's touch. The kiss lasted hardly a second, but still managed to convey the wealth of emotion held in both their hearts. Once they pulled away from each other, Maes stared at Roy and a smile began to form on his face.

"We should probably be getting back, don't you think?" Roy asked, smiling back.

"Well, those guys are still out there looking for us. Might be a while until they give up," Maes suggested, his smile turning into a smirk.

"You're right, it's probably best we just stay here for a while," Roy raised an eyebrow, turning to fully face Maes. The two of them watched each other for a moment before Maes leaned in and pressed his lips against Roy's. His hands reached up and cupped Roy's face as Roy's hands moved to rest on his hips. The kiss deepend as Roy pulled Maes closer, his desire to feel every inch of him growing by the second. Eventually, they pulled away, both gasping quietly for air.

"You know I'd die for you, don't you?" Roy said suddenly, his heart pounding in his chest.

"I know. And I would for you. But hopefully, neither of us will ever have to," Maes smiled softly, brushing his thumb in circles on Roy's cheek. He pulled him forwards and connected their lips once more.

Several hours later, when the two of them returned to their offices, both looking rather disheveled, no one really seemed to notice. Or at least if they did, they didn't make it obvious. The two of them stopped outside the door to Roy's office.

"I guess I'd better get going," Maes said, not even bothering to disguise the fact that he didn't want to.

"Me too. I'll see you around soon though, right?" Roy asked, a little scared of how Maes was going to reply.

"Sure, maybe next week for coffee?" Maes suggested with a slight smile.

"Sounds great," Roy smiled and Maes' smile grew. They nodded to each other before Maes turned and left, glancing back at least 3 times just to look at the smile on Roy's face. Once he was finally out of view, Roy reluctantly opened the door to his office and stepped inside.

"What's got you so happy today?" the voice of Riza asked as Roy looked up to see her stood by his desk.

"Oh, nothing. It's just been a pretty good day," Roy smiled, sitting down at his desk. Riza didn't push him any further but she did notice that Roy did not stop smiling for the rest of the day.
