They had different numbers and different names, but they all shared a face and a purpose- try to save a Republic that was doomed from the start.
So many souls lost in a war that tore a galaxy apart at the seams, a war that took a horrible turn when it seemed as if it would finally come to an end.
"Do we take prisoners?"
"I don't!"
-Heavy, right before hitting the detonator that destroyed the Rishi outpost
A soul that was stubborn and hot headed, but brave. Brave enough to give his life in an effort to keep Kamino safe. A soul who earned his name from a brother who believed in him and his squad.
"I'm a soldier, like you! This is what I was bred for!"
-99, moments before being gunned down by battle droids
A soul who had the heart of a soldier, but sadly his malformed body was incapable. He held earnest and unwavering love for his brothers, which ultimately brought about his downfall. His loss was not in vain, his sacrifice helped to win the day and save Kamino.
"Live to fight another day, boys. Live to fight another day..."
-Hardcase, aboard the Umbaran supply ship
A soul who was hyperactive and childish, but fearless. No amount of danger was able to faze him. He would laugh in the face of death and crack a joke or two. But there was no joke to be made when he sacrificed himself to save his brothers and turn the tide of one of the war's most important battles.
"Forget the mission. The nightmare. I'm... free..."
-Tup, after having his inhibitor removed
A soul who's first battle was one of the bloodiest in the entire war, his innocence lost all too soon. A conspiracy revealed too soon by a malfunction in his mind. His best friend and closest brother fought tooth and nail to try to save him, but sadly to no avail.
"The mission... the nightmare... it's finally... over..."
-Fives, in Rex's arms after being shot by Commander Fox
A soul that was brave, intelligent, and cared more about others than himself. Risked everything trying to uncover a grand conspiracy that would bring the war to an end in the most horrible way imaginable. In trying to save countless lives, he was instead chased through city streets and executed like a common criminal.
"Commander Rex, you are in violation of Order 66."
-Jesse, aboard a Venator-class Star Destroyer
And so many other souls, more than could be counted, lost to a fate worse than death. Their free will gone, and consciousness hijacked, turning them against their longtime allies. From loyal soldiers to deadly assassins, an instantaneous transformation that changed the course of galactic history.
"Not gone, merely marching far away."
-Mandalorian expression for the dead
