(After 'The Secret in the Siege')
Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.
I don't own Bones.
Ooooooooooooooooooooo
Flipping through a magazine, Brennan studied several of the articles and found them interesting, but she wasn't sure their advice would work for her. For one thing all of the brides were wearing white. There was no way that they were all virgins. The symbolism was negated by reality. Still, the article about receptions seemed practical.
"What are you doing?" Booth had walked into the living room and found his fiancé reading a magazine titled 'Brides'. That was so out of character that he began to worry. Was this wedding going to put too much pressure on Brennan? He wanted to get married, but he didn't want her to do anything that she didn't want to do.
"I told Angela about our engagement and she bought this magazine for me." Brennan held it up and showed Booth the cover. "Most of these articles are ridiculous, but I have found two that are practical, one about receptions and one about cakes."
Relieved that Brennan didn't seem to be too into the magazine, Booth sat down next to her, took the magazine from her and placed it on the coffee table. "Bones, this is your wedding. I don't want you to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. We can have a tiny wedding or a big wedding or just go to a justice of the peace. Any of those things are fine by me. I don't want you to think you have to go the traditional route if you don't want to."
"Don't you want a wedding?" Puzzled, Brennan turned slightly so she could see her partner's face. "I assumed you'd like a church wedding officiated by a priest."
"I want a wedding if you want a wedding." Careful how he answered her, Booth tried not to influence Brennan in any way. "Look, I'm just glad we're getting married. How we get married is up to you. I mean that. Whatever you want to do is fine by me."
Her confusion growing, Brennan placed her hand on his knee and tried to find out what was going on. "This is your wedding too, Booth. You have a right to have an opinion about how the wedding will be planned . . . I want you to be happy about the wedding. If you aren't then there is no point to having one."
"I am happy Bones and I want to marry you believe me I do, but I know how you feel about marriage and I just want you to have the wedding that makes sense to you." As he spoke, he could see the wrinkle between her eyes which was a clear sign of worry. Certain that he was causing her to worry, Booth leaned over and kissed her. "If you want me to help with the planning say the word and I'll do it. You're right this is our wedding."
"We need to talk about the size of the wedding, who we wish to invite and where the wedding will take place." Brennan assumed that Booth would want a church wedding, but she would not press him if that wasn't what he wanted.
"Okay, then." Booth decided that if the wedding was to be successful, he'd have to be involved. He had thought Brennan would want to be in charge of the wedding, but apparently he was wrong. "We'll plan the wedding together, so this Saturday, let's make time, sit down and discuss what we want to happen. Then we can see what needs to be done . . . including when we want to get married."
Retrieving the magazine from the coffee table, Brennan held it on her lap and tapped it with a finger. "I would like to make Angela my maid of honor."
"Sounds like a plan." Booth had already assumed that Angela was going to be a big part of the wedding. "I'm going to get Parker to be my best man." He had considered asking Jared, but he really wanted his son to feel part of the wedding and what better way to do that than to make him part of the ceremony. "I need to let Rebecca and Parker know about the wedding as soon as I can. We may have to have the wedding while he's out of school for the summer."
"Alright." She was surprised that he hadn't asked Jared to be his best man, but it was a wonderful idea to ask Parker instead. "I think we should both come up with a list of who we want to attend first. That will determine the size of the venue and help with our plans. "
Feeling a little overwhelmed, Booth couldn't believe that he was actually talking to Brennan about a wedding. A wedding for them. It seemed surreal, a dream, but it was real and in a few months he'd be able to call her his wife. It was an impossible dream coming true.
Ooooooooooooooooo
"Angela, may I speak to you?" Brennan stood in the doorway of her friend's office and waited for an invitation to enter the room. She normally didn't stand on formality when it came to Angela, but her friend was nursing her son and she didn't want to intrude on a private moment.
Tearing her gaze from her son's face, Angela turned to look at Brennan. "Of course you can come in . . . He was a little feverish last night, but he's okay today. Cam said I can keep him with me today, but he has to go back to day care tomorrow."
As she moved closer to Angela, Brennan noticed that the child was staring intently at his mother while he drank. "He's very alert."
"He is isn't he." Angela found her son to be amazing. He was four months old and she and Hodgins considered him to be the cutest baby they had ever seen. Almost everyone said so. "What can I do for you, Bren?"
"As you know, Booth and I are getting married. Probably this summer. We haven't set the day yet." Brennan smiled as Michael Vincent turned his attention towards her. She thought he was exceedingly handsome for a baby. "I would like you to be my maid of honor."
Shocked, Angela wanted to jump up and hug her friend, but she couldn't do that with her son in her arms. "Really? . . . oh Honey, I would be honored to be your maid of honor." Her mind racing with the things that needed to be done for Brennan's wedding, Angela knew that there was a chance that by Summer, Brennan meant three months planning at the most. "I'll help you as much as I can."
"Oh, you only have to show up at the wedding." Brennan wanted to be clear about her plans. "Booth and I are planning the wedding. We don't really need any outside help. I just want you to be my maid of honor. Parker is going to be Booth's best man."
Surprised, Angela looked down, realized that her son was finished with his lunch and closed and buttoned her blouse. "I thought for sure that Jared would be Booth's best man."
"Booth wants Parker to be part of the wedding. He doesn't want Parker to feel left out." Brennan walked over to the doorway. "I think Booth plans to ask Jared and Hodgins to be groomsmen."
"Alright." Disappointed that Brennan didn't want her to help with the wedding, Angela sighed. "Can I at least throw a bachelorette party for you? It's traditional."
She hadn't really thought about that aspect of getting married. "It is traditional isn't it? If you wish to throw a party for me then that will be acceptable. I don't wish male strippers though. Booth can be very alpha-male about things like that and I would rather not have him interrupt my party to rescue me." Brennan giggled. "It would be entertaining, but I would have to protest the intrusion which would lead to an argument and I would prefer to avoid that if possible."
"Um, sure." Angela knew that Booth was jealous when other men paid attention to Brennan, she just hadn't realized that Brennan was aware of that. "No strippers, although that is a shame. They can be very entertaining, if you know what I mean."
"I think I do. I have nothing against strippers, but Booth does. I mentioned that I stripped once for a college thesis and he didn't appear to like hearing about it." Of course, he'd had a lot on his mind at the time. His mother had made a reappearance in his life and that had turned out to be unpleasant. "He can be a little prudish sometimes, although not as prudish as I used to think."
She wanted to ask about Brennan stripping, but that last bit of information seemed more titillating. "Oh, really? What do you mean? Does he like some of the Shades of Gray?" Angela hoped that Brennan would explain. "You can't just tell me that and not give me examples."
"Actually, Booth told me once that he could only do two Shades of Gray, but nothing further." He had told her that during a case they were working on and after they became intimate partners, she'd had him show her what he had meant by that. "I have some reports I need to work on, Angela. I'm glad that Michael Vincent is feeling better today."
Irritated that Brennan had dropped a bombshell then left, Angela patted her baby's back against her shoulder and decided that she'd get her friend to spill the beans during the bachelorette party. She planned on there being a lot of drinking and that would be the best time to get Brennan to loosen up about her and Booth's sex life.
Ooooooooooooooooooo
He couldn't put it off any longer. He needed to let Jared know that he was getting married and he wanted him to be a groomsman. He just hoped that Jared would understand why he didn't want him to be his best man. Booth called Jared after work that evening. He tried not to call his brother at the Sheriff's Office just in case that would cause him problems. "Hey Jared, it's Seeley."
Seeley, how's it going? Is everything okay?
"Yeah, sure . . . Hey, I thought I'd call you and tell you that Bones and I are getting married. We haven't set a date yet, but when we do, we're going to send out invitations."
Wow, you're getting married? Congratulations. I'm happy for you, man.
"Um, thanks." Booth decided to be blunt. "Parker is going to be my best man. I was hoping that you'd be one of my groomsmen." Okay, let's see how that goes.
Hey, Parker is a great choice. I bet he's excited about it and yeah, I can be a groomsman. It would be an honor, Seeley.
To say he was shocked would be an understatement. Jared had come a long way in the last year. "Thanks, Jared and yeah, I talked to Parker a few days ago and he was kind of speechless at first when I asked him to be my best man, but you know how he is. He found his voice in record time and he actually let out a rebel yell on the phone. Liked to have busted my ear drum . . . You know he loves Bones and he's happy that Bones is going to be his step-mother."
Yeah, I can see that. Hey man, since Parker is too young to throw you a bachelor party want me to do it?
"Nah, I don't want one." Booth thought it over and decided that the last thing he wanted to do was to have a bunch of drinking around his brother. "I'm getting married and that's all I want. A party wouldn't make it better. We'll talk about the wedding once me and Bones have it all planned out, but . . . thanks for saying yes."
Hey, thank you for asking me.
"Of course, I was going to ask you. You're my brother." Booth was so proud of the progress in Jared's life.
Yeah, well thanks anyway.
Oooooooooooooooooo
Let me know what you think of my story. I appreciate it.
