(The Woman in White)
Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.
I don't own Bones.
Oooooooooooooooo
Their wedding day was approaching fairly fast now and Booth was trying to keep Brennan occupied at work to slow her down a little bit. Their wedding had been better planned than the D-Day invasion as far as Booth was concerned and Brennan was determined that the plan be followed to the letter. The only thing she didn't take into account was the human element. Plans were great, but no plan was perfect and Booth could foresee problems if Brennan didn't accept that. Her hatred of chaos could cause her undue anxiety and Booth was determined to make sure that didn't happen.
"Bones, Parker's flight is delayed, but that still shouldn't be a problem." Booth had just checked on his son's flight and when he realized that the flight was delayed, he'd called Rebecca. She had assured him that everything was alright. She had moved Parker to another flight and he'd be leaving six hour later than originally planned. "He's just leaving six hours later than he was supposed to. We have a two day cushion, so it should be okay."
She hadn't been pleased with Parker's delayed flight, but as long as he made it to wedding, she felt that the delay wouldn't be a problem. "Yes, I was hoping that he would be at the church for the rehearsal, but it doesn't really matter."
"It's okay, Bones." Booth placed his phone down on the counter, reached into the fridge for a bottle of beer and opened it. "He just has to stand next to me and hand me the ring. A piece of cake."
"We probably should have had the wedding in the summer." Brennan had been the one that had wanted the wedding to be held on October 21st so if there were any problems with Parker arriving on time, it would be on her head. "It would have insured that Parker would not be rushed to get here in time for the wedding."
He could hear the worry in her voice and Booth knew that he needed to do something to settle her down. Placing the bottle down on the counter, Booth stepped closer, moved his hands so that he cupped her hips and kissed her. "I appreciate that you want it to be on my perfect day, Bones. It was nice of you to think of that day and wanting to improve it." He kissed her again. "My perfect day is going to be even more perfect."
Amused, Brennan returned his kisses and felt the tension fading from her body. "Perfection is perfection, Booth. You can't make something more perfect."
His hands moving under her shirt towards her bra, Booth smiled as he kissed her again. "Um, if you say so."
Oooooooooooooooooooooo
Parker finally arrived and with him Hank, Jared and Padme. Jared and Padme were given the guest bedroom downstairs, while Hank and Parker used the rooms that Booth and Brennan considered theirs.
Making certain that they were alone, Jared looked towards the kitchen door, didn't see anyone and turned to face his brother. "You didn't invite Mom, did you?"
"Why the hell would I do that?" Annoyed, Booth grabbed a cookie from the cookie jar and handed it to Jared then grabbed another one for himself. "I haven't heard from her since she showed up to tell me she was getting married."
Relieved, Jared broke off a piece of the cookie and popped it into his mouth. "Just checking." His mother had been out of his life since he was four years old and he didn't want a relationship with her now. "Pops looks pretty good. He says he's still crocheting." It cracked up Jared that his grandfather called sex crocheting. "I hope I'm in his shape if I get to be his age."
"Ain't that the truth?" Booth laughed. "You know he has two girlfriends?"
"Ha! That doesn't surprise me." Jared finished his cookie and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. "I did a walk through of the retirement home. It's clean, the workers there seem nice and did you know they have a gym and an onsite therapist? Pops said he uses the treadmill to do his morning walk if it's raining outside."
Glad that Jared had done a checkup of the place, Booth nodded his head. "I do a walk through every time I go to see Pops. I've never seen anything that would make me wonder about the place."
"Good." Jared wanted to make sure his grandfather was being take care of properly. "You hear horror stories sometimes about retirement homes . . . Pops found one of the good ones."
Before he could respond, Parker ran into the room and over to where Booth was standing. "Dad, can I have some ice cream?"
Checking his watch, Booth shook his head. "Sorry Sport. We're getting ready to go to the restaurant for dinner. I don't want you to spoil your dinner."
Spying half a cookie in his father's hand, Parker pointed at it. "What's that?"
Quickly popping it in his mouth, Booth shook his head. "What's what?"
Irritated, Parker folded his arms against his chest. "You just ate a cookie."
Ruffling the boys wild hair, Booth smiled. "I'm bigger than you. Believe me one cookie isn't going to spoil my appetite."
As she walked into the kitchen, Brennan overheard Booth's reply to his son. "Since it's a tofu oatmeal and raisin cookie, I can assure you Parker that your father is not eating empty calories and it shouldn't spoil his dinner."
Shocked, Booth glanced at Jared who had grown pale. "Tofu cookie . . . I ate a tofu cookie?"
"Yes, you did." Smugly, Brennan checked the cookie jar and found most of the cookies she had made were gone. "I was certain I could make a healthy cookie and that you would eat it. I see I was correct."
His eyes hooded, Booth shook his head. "When I eat cookies, I don't care if it's not healthy. I'm eating a cookie because I want a cookie, calories and all."
"Yes, I know, but I do care." Brennan turned to walk out of the kitchen. "We need to leave for the restaurant soon."
Once she was out of the room, Jared laughed. "Ha, you've been eating tofu cookies."
"Yeah, well you ate one too." Booth smiled. "You know, she loves me and she wants me to live a long time."
Parker scrunched his nose. "I'm not eating tofu cookies. Are you sure the ice cream isn't tofu Dad?"
Opening the freezer, Booth checked the brand. "It's fine, thank God."
Ooooooooooooooooooooo
The wedding came off just like Brennan had planned. Though she wasn't Catholic, Father Harrow had agreed to officiate the wedding at the church Booth attended. Booth was originally going to get Father Hebert to officiate, but the Father had broken his left leg water skiing and Father Harrow was able to step in at the last minute.
Dressed in white, the gown flowing down to the tops of her white shoes, Brennan had walked down the aisle of the church with her father and once she was standing next to Booth, she began to relax. Facing the priest, they had listened to the Father talk about love and partnerships and then he notified the wedding guests that Booth and Brennan had written their own vows.
His hand resting over his heart, Max listened to his daughter's vows and felt tears begin to flow down his cheeks as she spoke about being trapped underground with Hodgins after the Gravedigger had kidnapped them and how she had written a letter to Booth just in case she died before she was found. "How is it possible that simply looking into your fine face gives me so much joy? Why does it make me so happy that every time I try to sneak a peek at you, you're already looking at me? Like you, it makes no sense and like you, it feels right." The tears were a steady stream now as Max thought about his daughter and the fact that she had thought she was going to die at that time and there was no one she could write to except Booth. She'd had no family at the time to worry about her and Max felt the pain he had caused his daughter was being encapsulated in this moment, in that letter. She had been alone since she was fifteen years old and when she had thought she was at the end of her life she had written to someone she had known for a year to say her good-byes to. It made him sad, but at the same time, he knew that Booth had been there in her time of need and he always would be.
Sensing his stress, Hank placed has hand on Max's arm and squeezed it. "She's happy, Max. She's with my boy and she's never going to be alone again." Hank loved Brennan and he was happy that she had agreed to become part of his family. One of Hank's biggest fears had been that his grandchildren would walk through their lives unloved and unwanted once he was gone. Now he knew that they were safe and happy and when it came time for him to go to heaven, he could do it in peace. His boys were loved by women that adored them and they adored the women they had found to share their lives with. His job as their father was complete. The circle was closed and his boys were never going to be alone, just like Temperance would never be alone. The past was buried and his grandsons had a bright future ahead. "They love each other and they're never going to have to go through their lives alone anymore."
His face a wet mess, Max pulled his handkerchief from his pocket, wiped his cheeks dry and blew his nose as he watched his daughter and son-in-law kiss. He'd seen them kiss before, but this was different. They were so happy it seemed impossible that anything would ever make them unhappy again. Of course, he'd been happy with his wife Christine until their lives had gone wrong and she'd died. "Life is unpredictable, we both know that, but yeah, they're not alone."
Ooooooooooooooooo
The reception had been fun, but Booth and Brennan were ready to leave the party. After they kissed Christine good-bye and watched Angela and Hodgins carry her away with them to the parking lot, Booth had turned towards Parker and Hank. "Okay, Parker . . . Pops we're going home now. Thanks for agreeing to watch over Parker until his mother can come and get him. Remember Parker, your Mom will be here on Wednesday and you're going to fly back to England on Thursday."
A little tired and wanting to go back to Booth and Brennan's house, Hank walked towards Booth's SUV. "You worry too much, Seeley. I can take care of Parker for two days and if Rebecca is delayed that'll be fine. Jared and Padme are going to drive me home once Rebecca picks up Parker. It's all planned. You two can go on your honeymoon tomorrow and everything else will be taken care of."
Exiting the reception hall, Jared heard the last words his grandfather had said, took in a deep breath and exhaled. "Seeley stop worrying about shit. I didn't even have to hear you talking to know that you're worrying about something. Parker is going to be picked up by his mother, I'm going to drive Pops home after that, then me and Padme will go home. Sheriff Wilkins said I can have this week off, so no worries big brother. I don't have any vacation saved up yet, so I'm going to work five Saturdays in a row to make up for the days off."
"Wilkins is a good guy." Booth appreciated that the Sheriff had given Jared the week off to come to the wedding and to take care of family business. "I served with him in Kosovo."
"Yeah, I know." Jared was aware of Wilkins' history with Booth and he appreciated the fact that the Sheriff respected his brother a lot. "I hope you and Tempe enjoy your honeymoon. Don't worry about anyone back here because we're not going to be worrying about you.'
Brennan thought that seemed rather mean, but since Booth laughed and slapped his brother in the middle of his back with an open hand, she understood it must be a joke. It wasn't a funny joke as far as she was concerned, but she was used to that. Jared had an odd condescending sense of humor and she found his jokes to be tasteless most of the time. "We will have our phones with us in case there is an emergency."
Padme stepped over to where Brennan was standing and hugged her. "There will be no emergencies, Sister. None at all."
Booth smiled and waited for Brennan to join him so they could walk to the truck. "Okay, we get it. Everyone will be fine while we're gone."
Shyly, Parker moved closer to the happy couple and handed them a small wrapped box that he'd been keeping in his jacket pocket. "Dad . . . Bones, I have a present for you."
Surprised, Booth took the box, opened it and then handed the box to Brennan so she could see what it was. "Thank you, Parker." He leaned down and hugged his son. "Thank you."
A bright smile lighting up her face, Brennan pulled the gift from the box and held it her hand for everyone to see. "It's lovely Parker." The small art glass blown duck glistened in Brennan's hand. The lights from the front of the building and the parking lot showed off the dark green head and the brown and white feathers on the body of the duck. "Thank you."
A little embarrassed that everyone was staring at the figurine, Parker shrugged his shoulders. "It's from Mom and me. She said that you've finally got your ducks in a row Dad and she thought this might be a cool present. Do you get it?"
Booth rested his hand on his son's shoulder. "I do Parker and your mother is right. All of my ducks have finally lined up perfectly."
Ooooooooooooooooooo
Let me know what you think of my story. Thanks.
