Keeping me afloat

Harry Potter always has been secretive about his life among the Mundane. He told his surrogate family that the Dursley abused him, which was true, but other than that, even them did not know much.

He, however, always refused to stay over the holidays with them. And he never gave a reason.

Mrs. Weasley ("Please, Harry dear, call me Molly!") was very worried for the boy she saw as her seventh son.

The Weasley boys always wondered what was going on, but Harry told them he was fine, and happy.

Ginny always worried for her future. After all, Dumbledore, behind her whole family's back, had promised her that she would, one day, marry Harry. If he wasn't in good shape, what would she do?

There was only one person that wasn't worried for Harry. After all, nobody knew what happened during the Holidays...

The party was going well. The music was so loud, if there were windows in the room, they would have vibrated.

Fans were all partying right in front of the stage. What was once a concert ended up in a party, much to the artist's pleasure. People were drinking, those who brought drugs on the site were arrested, some had gone to the bathroom for sex, and the artist was only too happy to oblige their public with more and more music.

Their cat, Athens, was watching them have fun from the backstage, protection on her delicate and sensible ears. She could tell they loved it up there.

Jumping up and down, DJ Jamie was mixing and composing live, in the party, since all of his works had been played already. It was a blast! Besides, live mixing were often his best. He'll just have to refine them later on.

Hands flying over the controls of the mixing table and computer, headphones on his ears, and signing like there was no tomorrow for the covers he was doing right then and there, his girlfriend came and kissed him, during a part of the mix that was instrumental only.

The Yule ball had gone well. People had had a lot of fun. The next morning, there was a surprise for everyone in the middle of the Great Hall.

There was a weird table in the middle of the room, covered in strange... things. Only the first generation magicals knew what it was, even if it was only vaguely.

"It's a mixing table, with all the necessary equipment for a Disc Jockey!" exclaimed a fifth year Hufflepuff.

"What is it doing there?" asked a Gryffindor.

"Muggle technology? Here? At Hogwarts? Don't disgust me." spat an Inbred Slytherin.

"Wait 'til my father hear about this!"

"What's going on here? Come on, move out of the way! Out of the way, I said!" growled Snape.

The Hufflepuff explained to the angry Professor that when they had arrived, it already was there.

When Harry, Ron, and Hermione arrived to the Great Hall, everyone had seated themselves, but whispering about why Mundane technology was there. They stopped in front of it, Ron and Hermione curious and confused, and Harry in awe.

"Oh, my, god! Is this really a Akai Professional APC40 MKII?!" he exclaimed, looking over the equipment.

Everyone got quiet. He obviously knew what it was, even if it was clear he did not put it there.

"And a M-Audio Oxygen 49 MKIV Keyboard Controller?!" he continued, running his hand almost reverently over the material.

"As well as a Pioneer DJ DJM-900NXS2 live mixer, a DJ PLX 1000 turntable, a Denon MCX80000 digital turntable, a Shure SM58 live microphone, Sony MDR7506 headphones, JBL EON612 speakers, and KRK Rokit 8 studio monitors." (Please note that I found that on the Internet, as I know nothing about mixing, and that, I have no idea if it truly is good equipment or not, nor am I being sponsored.) said a voice coming from the open doors of the Great Hall.

Harry turned around. He looked as if he was the happiest man in the world.

"Merry Christmas, Harry." said the stranger.

"Lewis!" Harry cried. "You're the one who brought all of this here? For me?"

Lewis mocked being confused for a moment. "Who else would I bring this to? And for who else would I have chosen that particular equipment?" His face then broke out into a big grin. "Go try it! I know you're dying to!"

Harry couldn't help but smile. "Thank you, I couldn't have chosen a better manager! Let's see what this baby has got!"

Lewis laughed as Harry sat on the cushioned stool, put the headphones on his ears, and started up the equipment.

Music started, with a fast beat, sad, happy, and relieved all at once. A mundaneborn recognized the song immediately, as the song was extremely popular.

"That is 'Keeping me afloat', by DJ Jamie!"

And Harry started to sing.

Since the beginning I've been sinking

Through hardships no child should fight

I've been broken once, I've been broken a thousand times

I've been loosing myself in slavery

But then you came along, brightening my world;

I couldn't have asked for better friends

There with me keeping me afloat

Keeping us from being killed, you were there through it all

You guys always tried to keep us all alive

Even though we were hunted down

By stupid criminals for petty revenge;

Harmony my sweet bestie

You've been there through it all, keeping me from sinking

You were my rock, the one I could count on

They say 'knowledge is power', you understood that well;

I couldn't have asked for better friends

There with me keeping me afloat

Keeping us from being killed, you were there through it all

You guys always tried to keep us all alive

Even though we were hunted down

By stupid criminals for petty revenge;

Runner my dear brother

Always a strategy in mind

Keeping me from sinking with games

You always helped me out

Through all those trials and hardships;

I couldn't have asked for better friends

There with me keeping me afloat

Keeping us from being killed, you were there through it all

You guys always tried to keep us all alive

Even though we were hunted down

By stupid criminals for petty revenge;

I wouldn't be here without you my friends.

Hermione understood. Her best friend was the DJ she fangirled on! In his song, Harry spoke of how Ron and her were his best friends, and how they kept him from sinking into depression from being Voldemort and his Death Eaters' target. How they helped him stay alive.

When she had heard the song for the very first time, she thought that it was just feelings of being hunted down, struggles of a celebrity's life. Now she saw the truth. Their names had been changed for the song, so as to keep them anonymous.

As Harry ended his song, Mundaneborns realized the same things she did, and Hogwarts' people and guests were thinking that Harry was a good signer. Lewis (whom she noticed was the same guy that she knew was DJ Jamie's manager) looked very proud, and happy.

Harry himself had just given a live performance on his new equipment. He looked happy.

Professor Mcgonnagall looked proud.

And Ron had understood too, judging by his facial expression. He and Hermione gave Harry a big hug, and congratulated him. Leaving the Great Hall, Lewis had people dismantling the equipment and put away in big, cushioned and protective boxes, and left to deliver them to Harry's house. To his true Home.

Harry's music became very popular among Hogwarts' populace. The Durmstrang and Beauxbâtons' deleguations enjoyed it quite a lot, too. DJ Jamie's fangroup extended to Bulgaria and France so fast it was surprising! Lewis had already got contracts for a big World Tour, instead of only making a tour in America and England!

Ron and Hermione had a long talk with Harry that night, as he finally told them of his life in the mundane world. The joys and pains of being a celebrity who's stage name was well-known in the whole country, how he kept out of the press thanks to the laws in the mundane world, which he intended to use against Rita Skeeter and the Ministry of Magic of their slander, and of course, of his home-life and girlfriend, Luna Lovegood, who was actually very good at pretending they did not know each other during the school year.

As Harry was explaining everything, his cat, Athens, decided to show up. She sat on Harry's bed, away from the three Gryffindors. She looked proud and happy.

"Harry, is this Athens?" asked Hermione.

Harry looked at the cat as well. "Yes, she is." he grinned.

"May I pet her?" she asked again.

"Ask her yourself, I cannot give you permission for someone else."

Hermione looked at him a little weird, but did all the same, noticing the cat looked relieved at having the choice.

As Hermione approached her hand she asked permission... which was not granted. Athens hissed a little, while pinning Hermione with a glare that would make Professor McGonnagall proud.

"Wait..." said Ron. "We saw that cat once..." He looked thoughtful. Then, his face illuminated.

"Yes, Ron." Harry said with a smirk.

They all turned to the cat, who turned slowly into Professor McGonnagall.

"Good thinking, Mr. Weasley." she said. Then, looking at Hermione: "No, I will not let you pet me, Ms. Granger. I do not like to be pet." She still looked stern.

"Yes, well, you don't complain much when people do so when I'm on stage..." Harry trailed off, with a smirk.

McGonnagall spluttered. "I-I-I do n-not!" she blushed redder than a firefighter truck.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night!" laughed Harry.
