Bean had learned something. She had learned that tomato cans are very sharp. She also learned that if Ivy walks through the door while you are wrapping plastic wrap around a tomato can, you can cut yourself. Then you will need a fancy bandaid to fix it.

Bean selected a rainbow band aid. "There!" Ivy said cheerfully, "it looks much fancier now. Even though I still think you should have done the one with cauldrons on it." Ivy decided she would use the cauldron band aid anyway even though she was not hurt. She put it on her knee, then on her nose. "Where are your shoes, Ivy?" Bean asked. "I am not wearing shoes to protest going shopping." Ivy replied. Bean took off her shoes too. It was nice to have an excuse to do so. Now she could tell her mom she was being innovative if her mom told her to put her shoes on. Bean had just learned the word innovative and was trying to use it as much as possible. Ms. Aruba- Tate liked it when the second graders used big words.

"Why were you wrapping tomato cans in plastic wrap?" Ivy asked. "I was making a drum!" Bean looked downcast. "But it didn't work." Ivy sucked on her hair. "I have drums at my house!" she said. "My mom used to be in a drum circle." A drum circle? Bean thought. This was going to be good.
