(The Carpals in the Coy-Wolves)

Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.

I don't own Bones.

Oooooooooooooooo

Asleep, the sound of his phone ringing jarred Booth awake. Rolling over onto his side, he fumbled for his phone and managed to answer it. "Booth."

It's Padme, Booth. Something's wrong. We're at the hospital. Something's wrong with the baby or Padme . . . I don't know . . . I'm scared Seeley. I'm really scared.

"Hold on, I'll be there as soon as I can. Just hold on." Booth ended the call and turned on the bed to face an already awake Brennan. "Something's wrong with Padme. I'm going to the hospital as soon as I get dressed."

"I'll come with you." Brennan moved to get out of bed.

Moving from the bed, Booth hurried over to the closet. "No, Bones. It's three in the morning and I don't want to scare Christine or get Hank worked up. Wait until they're up, get Christine to school and Hank to Day Care then arrange to get Max to pick them up this afternoon . . . I'll call you as soon as I know something." His pants on, he pulled a tshirt on and ran his hands through his short hair. Leading over he kissed his wife. "Go back to sleep. I'll call you about eight, that will give you time to get the kids squared away and you can get to your office and let Cam know what's going on. I want her to know. She thinks of Jared as her little brother. She always has."

After she returned his kiss, Brennan watched while her husband slipped his shoes on, pulled on a jacket and stuffed the pockets with his wallet, phone and car keys. "Be careful."

"Of course." Pausing in the doorway, Booth smiled at her. "I love you." With that he was gone and Brennan was alone. Laying back down, she stared at the ceiling and hoped that Padme and her baby were going to be alright.

Oooooooooooooooooo

He found Jared in the waiting room, sitting under a poster reminding people to wash their hands to protect the patients and medical staff. Moving across the room, Booth sat down next to Jared and placed his hand on the middle of his brother's bowed back. "Hey, I'm here, you're not alone. Tell me what's going on."

Grateful his brother was there Jared exhaled deeply and ran his hands under his eyes trying to erase any signs he had been crying. "She . . . she was getting ready for bed and she said she felt tired and I get that, she was diagnosed with anemia a few months ago and she's been taking supplements . . . she fainted. That scared the hell out of both of us. I called her obstetrician and he said to come to the hospital and he'd meet us here . . . anyway, they've admitted her, she's in labor, the baby is coming and it's not time . . . I'm scared, Seeley. I'm scared I'm going to lose them both."

He knew his brother was afraid and he had to remain calm for his brother's sake. "Hey . . . hey, the baby is only three weeks early. He was healthy the last time Padme went to the doctor, he was the right size for a baby that far along, you told me that yourself. He might be early and he might be smaller than you were counting on, but this is going to be okay. I know it will."

Desperate, Jared nodded his head, his gaze on the floor at his feet. "This is a good hospital, Temperance recommended it to me and Padme if we needed one. That's why when Padme chose her obstetrician, she made sure he works out of this hospital. Of course, Tempe thinks hospitals are a hotbed for germs and that's why she had her baby at home." He turned to look at his brother. "She gives out way too much information, you know that?"

With a soft chuckle, Booth nodded his head. "Yeah, she likes this hospital because one of her former classmates is the top surgeon in this place and he graduated first in his class. He's got a good rep and Brennan knows he'd never work in a dump." He cleared his throat. "She just gave you that information so you'll be informed. She hates hospitals because it's full of sick people . . . that's not a joke. She's smart and she knows what goes on in a hospital, but you know, when you need one you need one and this is the best in town . . . Padme is in good hands. Bones checked out her obstetrician when she found out Padme was pregnant. She told me he's got a great reputation and Dr. Seward likes him, that's her friend." Booth knew he was rambling but he needed to calm his brother down. "Has anyone talked to you yet? Want me to call Bones and get her to call Dr. Seward?"

"No, I mean don't call Temperance . . . at least not yet." Jared sat back against his chair with his hands gripping his thighs. "Dr. Kramer came in and told me that Padme is in labor and not to worry . . . that's easy for him to say . . . anyway, Padme is in labor and they don't want me in the room because the situation is kind of . . . um, medical . . . they didn't give me a real reason, they just said some gobble de goop stuff that went over my head and told me to wait out here . . . I don't really know what's going on."

He knew that Jared wasn't a stupid man, far from it, so Booth was worried that he didn't understand what the doctor had told him. It was possible his brother had shut down while the doctor was talking to him, hell, he had almost done that himself when Brennan had been shot. The only thing that had kept him calm was the fact that Cam had been in the operating room keeping an eye on things and she had told him what had happened afterwards. His mind had been on autopilot for a few hours while Brennan had been operated on and he thought Jared was doing the same thing. "Hey, if they can they'll come and get you when it's time for the baby to make an appearance."

"Yeah." Deeply sighing, Jared felt helpless. "I love her, Seeley. I love Padme. She gave me another chance when she didn't have to. I got my shit together and she gave us another try. She didn't have to do that. I was a drunk and she was tired of my shit, but I asked her to give me another chance and she did it . . . We've been happy and when we found out she was going to have a baby we were so excited . . . so happy. I don't want to lose her Seeley. I need her."

"I know how you feel, Jared." Booth knew that Brennan was his rock. She kept him anchored in this world and he tried to be the best he could be because of her. It had been this way for a very long time and he knew that Jared had found his rock and would be adrift if he lost her. "We've been lucky to find that someone in this world that makes us want to be better. We need that . . . I'm staying until the baby is born, Jared. I'm not going anywhere. Bones is going to take Christine to school and Hank to Day Care and then she's going to talk to Cam and let her know what's going on. I think she plans on coming here later this morning."

Glad he wasn't going through this alone, Jared nodded his head. "Okay, got it. Um, thanks for coming Seeley."

"Not a problem." Booth leaned back against his chair and stared at the coffee machine. He wanted some coffee, but he didn't know if he wanted it bad enough to drink vending machine made coffee. It usually tasted like battery acid and it was too early in the morning for that.

Oooooooooooooooo

Brennan found Booth in the waiting room. After he greeted her and kissed her, they sat down and she handed him a cup of coffee from the Diner and a bag with some breakfast sandwiches. "Where's Jared?"

"Padme and the baby seemed to be doing better, so they allowed him in the room with her." Booth sipped his coffee and sighed. "Bless you, the coffee in the machine is awful." His stomach rumbling, he pulled one of the sandwiches from the bag, unwrapped it and began to eat.

"It is Cam's intention to be here at noon." Brennan sipped coffee from a cup she had bought for herself. "She has a meeting she must attend with the Board of Directors at ten and it should last approximately an hour."

Glad Cam was coming, Booth nodded his head and swallowed his bite of food. "Good, how are the kids?"

"They're fine. Christine wanted to know where you were and I told her you had to leave early." Brennan had been careful not to lie to her daughter. She tried to always tell the child the truth even if it wasn't the whole truth.

"Okay." After he finished his first sandwich, he began to eat his second one when Jared entered the room. Placing the sandwich back in the bag, he placed the bag and his coffee on the chair next to his char and stood up. "Jared?"

Beaming, he walked over to his brother and crushed him in a hug. "Padme's okay and the baby is here. He's little and they took him to NICU but he's in pretty good shape for a preemie. Dr. Seward says he's a fighter and Padme was a real trooper, Seeley. She came through it and she's going to be fine . . . I don't think we're going to have any more kids. I don't want Padme to risk her life like that. Not again."

He understood and Booth would have felt the same way if Brennan had gone through what Padme had gone through. "Can we see him?"

"No, not yet anyway." Jared sat down, picked up his brother's bag and took the sandwich out. Biting into it he hummed. "Man, I'm hungry."

"Help yourself." Booth rolled his eyes and sat down. "Bones, if we leave now, we can go home and get some sleep before we have to get Christine from school and Hank from Day Care. I'm bushed and you have to be too."

After checking her watch, Brennan nodded her head. "I'm going to call Cam and let her know that the baby is here and Padme is doing fine."

Interrupting his breakfast, Jared turned his attention upon his sister-in-law. "Tell her to bring me some donuts and some more coffee. This half eaten sandwich isn't going to cut it."

"Alright." Brennan laughed, stood up and left the room to make her call.

Rubbing the back of his neck, Booth stood up and stretched. "What are you guys going to call the baby?"

"Oh, Joseph Hank Booth. We didn't want to step on Little Hank's name so we're using Hank instead of Henry. We wanted to name our son after Pops and you. You helped when I needed it and well . . . I want my son named after you."

Flattered, Booth smiled. "Well, as long as you didn't name the poor kid, Seeley."

"God no, that was never going to happen." Jared laughed at the expression on his brother's face. "Sorry, but it's true."

"Yeah, I guess." Since he hated his first name, Booth could see that Jared had a point. "I'm going to come back tonight it see Padme. You behave yourself."

Amused, Jared sipped the last of Booth's coffee. "Of course."

Oooooooooooooooooo

Let me know what you think of my story. Thank you.
