Bells were tolling throughout the vast region known as Johto. They could all be heard through dense forests, caves, and even into nearby Kanto. Those ringing bells throughout the region were a daily reminder of the incoming morning.
The stars that twinkled throughout the night sky started to disappear as dawn started to fill in. As black skies turned a mixture of blue and pinkish-orange, the sun rose from the horizon.
Johto comprises the mythology and traditions carried by its oldest landmarks; Ruins of Alph, Bell Tower, etc. The history dwells back to a time when a species of Pokemon, known as Unown, supposedly created the Ruins of Alph, and the region developed surely with more landmarks and civilizations being created throughout the land. The oldest man-made structures in the region were Bell Tower and the Brass Tower. Bell Tower had been said that an exceptionally rare Pokemon is known to land on top of the highest tier. That pokemon supposedly represented the sky, flying all across Johto. The whole of Bell Tower had been an icon of Ecruteak City, an old, historical city in the northwest of the region. However, that sky pokemon flew away and had not been seen, since it was in search of a pure-hearted trainer. Some say that it had happened after Brass Tower caught fire from a lightning strike, but a storm put the fire out. Three unknown Pokemon were killed in the destruction of Brass Tower, before the sky pokemon revived them during its flight. Brass Tower, like Bell Tower, was also where an exceptionally rare Pokemon lands on top of its highest tier, also located in Ecruteak City. However, unlike the sky Pokemon, that Pokemon represents the sea. Today, Brass Tower had been referred to as the Burned Tower. Once the tower caught fire, the sea Pokemon fled south to a big island south of Johto. It lived underneath a sea cave in peace, resting inside a waterfall basin. One day, however, two groups from different regions were in the thick of who could rule the island, causing a cataclysmic war, with Pokemon mostly getting hurt or killed during combat. This angered the sea Pokemon, which caused it to surge lightning and sea levels onto the island. This not only drove away both the groups, but it also tore the island apart into quarters. The island, or archipelago, had been reduced to what is now known today as the Whirl Islands, plaguing it with whirlpools. The sea Pokemon slept once more, in hopes of a manifesting trust between humans and Pokemon.
Why am I even reading this? This is all coming from this book I'm reading. Whatever… I don't think I'll need it… thought our hero… or main character of the story…
Our story begins in a darkened, messy bedroom of fifteen-year old Eon, our main hero… or whatever… Why do I ask?
Eon let out an exasperated sigh before tearing up the page of the rare, legendary Pokemon of the book he was reading, crumpled it all up, and threw it at a pile of other crumbled up pages across the room from his bed.
"The sooner I get out of this dump," he said, "the better…"
He is nobody's friend. He has no care for anything whatsoever. Having been raised by his grandparents in New Bark Town, he had not been properly disciplined. He kept thinking very differently from everyone else. Everyone's goal was to become the champion of Johto; in fact, everyone wanted to become the greatest champion of all. Eon's thoughts? He thought it was all an overrated dream. He thought winning eight badges just to become the champion of Indigo was a huge waste. But everyone points out the legendary Red. Eon's response? 'He's just an average trainer nobody needs to swoon over', he says.
Eon stares at his poster of a smirking Red with his Charizard and Pikachu, with red marker writings that write 'Loser', 'Waste', and crossed out the word 'Champion' and wrote 'Chump'. He hopes to meet this guy everyone babbles about, defeat him in a Pokemon battle, and rub the win in everyone's faces until Red hides himself from all of reality forever.
"Eon," called an old man's voice, "Are you getting ready?"
Eon groaned just from the sound of hearing his grandfather's voice. He had no respect for the man whatsoever. But nevertheless, he had to get up for the day. "Hold your hat, old man!" he responded, "I'll be down in a minute!"
Stomping his feet onto the ground off his bed, he went to the curtains that hindered the day from shining in his room, before yanking them to reveal the morning sun.
As the sun rose high beyond the sky, Pidgeys and Hoothoots flocked in pairs, flying with each other as the dawn bells rang once more. The air wafted into Eon's room, as it had his lengthy black hair tickle his neck.
Eon saw groups of Oddish bouncing about, following after Hoppip and Skiploom. Smelling the fresh air from the Hoppip and Skiploom's aroma, a slight smirk stretched upon Eon's face.
"Today's the day…" he said with confidence.
He saw it all. The day was all set in his eyes. He was finally going to become a Pokemon trainer.
Eon did not wish to be a champion of what sort. He didn't even want to be the guy who has to let people kiss his feet for being 'a champion'. Eon's wish when he wants to be a trainer is to shut everyone up about champions. Not just Red, but everyone else. He's tired of champions like Lance, Cynthia, Steven, Iris, anyone who is considered a champion. He's also heard of the young trainers who've beaten champions, and has vowed to crush them too. He hopes to dub himself, 'The Champ-Crusher'.
But while 'Champ-Crusher' was fresh in his mind, Eon didn't have time to dream too much about it. After throwing his black jacket over his dark blue t-shirt, he waltzes out of his bedroom, passing through his grandparents hallway, before hitting the stairs.
As he made his way down the stairs, he did not go unnoticed by a soft but raspy voice, "Good morning, Eon!" his grandmother greeted him, cooking something in the kitchen.
"Mornin' Maw…" Eon responded, nonchalantly, as he reached the final step.
Gazing at the old-fashioned interior of his house, he sees his grandmother cooking breakfast. Whiffing a smell, he could make it out to be tamagoyaki, his favorite. To his left, he could see his grandfather sitting at the dining room table, reading a magazine. He had a cup of coffee sitting in front of him.
Walking to the table, he sat down at the end table with his elbows off the edge.
Eon's grandfather, Landon, looked up from his newspaper. He was a soft man with a strong arm and a history of Pokemon. In his younger and middle-age years, he was an assistant to the greatest Pokemon professor of all, Professor Samuel Oak. He was smart, tame, and helpful with Pokemon. One day, he and his wife decided to move to Johto to open up a Pokemon day care. Success had gone throughout the few years since it'd been opened, and even Oak stopped by to check on him.
Eon's grandmother, Kessie, had been there with him throughout her husband's journey. She was a small, frail woman, who also worked with Pokemon. When she was young, she interned at a Pokemon Center from a small Kanto town. On some occasions, she volunteered at a Pokemon day care near Saffron City, where she, one day, met her then-boyfriend, Landon, where they were a match made in the high skies. Years later, she, along with her husband, decided to pursue opening a Pokemon nursery to help take care of Pokemon who are too weak to handle the wild.
Their business was thriving for years - it still is. So why are they not there?
After Eon's parents tragically passed away, this left the boy under the care of his grandparents. Landon and Kessie, knowing that their day care was in full swing, but not wanting to neglect their grandson, decided to leave their business to a few close workers to manage. While they still own the business, they are only there part-time. They left it under the care of a few workers, at least for now.
"Good mornin', sporto!" Landon greeted his grandson.
Eon gazed over to his grandfather, "Hey, Geezer…" he greeted him.
"That crazy Power Plant is experiencing a swarm of Grubbin in Kalos." said Landon, reading off the newspaper.
"Yeah, who cares…" said a nonchalant Eon, "They're just tryin' to integrate from another reason and become a new regional variant or whatever…"
Kessie, with a plate of tamagoyaki, walked over to where Eon was sitting. "Are you excited about today, Eon?" she asked, while giving him the plate.
"Yeah, sure…" said Eon, "As soon as I begin my journey, I'll be on my way to destroy lives."
"Now now, Eon…" Kessie reassured him, "It's not that easy to become the best trainer by defeating top-tiered Pokemon trainers like Red."
Eon rolled his eyes in annoyance, "But it's easy to get eight gym badges and attempt to challenge the Elite Four and Champion?"
"Well, not necessarily…" Landon said, who sat his newspaper down.
"What are you talking about, Geezer?" Eon suspiciously questioned the old man. Geezer is a name Eon likes to nickname his grandpa. Meanwhile, he likes to nickname his grandmother Maw.
"I mean, it's easy to just go and get eight gym badges, to recognize yourself as a true Pokemon trainer." said Landon, "The hard part though, kiddo, is when you want to challenge the Elite Four." He took a sip from his coffee mug before he continued, "Not a lot of trainers who challenge the Elite Four make it to the Champion. And the ones that do, they get beaten by him."
"Yeah, I know." Eon rolled his eyes again, "Lance."
Unlike Red, Lance wasn't as much of a person Eon loathes, let alone wants to defeat in a battle. But like Red, he can't stand him for being the 'Champion of Indigo''. He calls foul on him for his usage of Dragon-type Pokemon, especially when he has THREE Dragonites on his team! Like Red, he wants to defeat him, but not as badly as Red.
"Dearie…" Kessie tried to say to him, "I know you're all bent on trying to defeat the greatest Pokemon trainer to ever live, Red, but-"
"Please…" scoffed Eon, "Wake up, Maw! Red's not a Champion! He's not the greatest trainer of all time! He may think so, but he's just a brat who climbed his way because he had nothing else better to do…"
"How do you explain him defeating Team Rocket?" asked Landon.
"Oh what a hero!" Eon sarcastically stated, slowly clapping, "Big whoop! If one crooked team's downfall was done by a young trainer, shouldn't it have been done by local law enforcement even before he went on his journey?!"
Landon was about to say something else, but Eon interrupted him again, "And then you have young, amateurish trainers playing the hero card trying to save the day and defeat evil teams! Take Hoenn for example, Team Aqua and Team Magma were both foiled by a young trainer. Sinnoh, Team Galactic was foiled by another one. Same deal. Unova, Team Plasma was foiled… twice! By two other trainers! We've even had some twerp stop Team Rocket here in Johto!" He took a bite out of his breakfast, but then he started to think about what he said in his last sentence. "Or… at least he tried to stop them before they could rise back up, but you know what I mean! And they've all ended up becoming Champions!"
"Look, sweetie…" Kessie said, wrapping her arm around Eon's back, "I don't want to be rude but… don't you think you're a little jealous of Red?"
Eon's face went white as snow. "Jealous?!" he cried, "Yeah right!" He took another bite from his breakfast.
"Eon…" Kessie tried to reassure him, "I wish you could stop thinking about these negative thoughts about Red and the other whippersnappers who went in their own regions, and start to think about the positives…"
"Oh yeah? Like what?"
"For starters, look at Red." Eon scoffed when Kessie mentioned his name again, "After he went and became Champion of Indigo, he decided to travel the world, teaching a younger generation of Pokemon trainers the ways of becoming a Pokemon Master! He and best friend, Blue, have been traveling for years since Red won in Indigo Plateau."
Eon rolled his eyes yet again, they practically went backwards into his head, "And that's a reason why I should like him?" He questioned his grandma.
"Well why not?" asked Kessie, "There's plenty more good in him than bad, y'see?"
"Who cares…" Eon retorted, "Hero worship the boy all you want, Maw… But someday he'll realize what a completely pathetic loser he is… That goes for every other twerp who even had the guts to try! Someone will defeat them and the suckers who claim to be 'Champions'. And that someone is me!" He points to his head with his thumb. "I'm gonna crush every Champion out there, they'll be sorry if they even rise back up from the dead!"
Kessie and Landon's eyes perked up at the sound of Eon's words. Sure, they're aware of his delinquent attitude - They couldn't tell if it started either from his parents' deaths, or when Red became the Champion of Indigo. Regardless, they knew he couldn't be serious. Could he though?
After breakfast, it was high time to go get a new Pokemon for the boy.
"You know what every twerp has in common?" Eon asked his grandparents, as they sighed, "They all had to get either a Grass-type, a Fire-type, or a Water-type. What if I don't want either of those?"
"Well I'm sorry you feel that way, kiddo." said Landon, "But almost every region around the world, you have trainers who start with either of those types. In this region's case, it has to be either Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile."
"Ask Red how he got his first Pokemon…" Eon grumbled, "He got a Pikachu of all starters!"
"Do you want a Pikachu?" asked Landon.
"No, I just want a Pokemon that is neither Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, or Pikachu… I want one that is totally capable of destroying the opposition, without using those overrated creatures!"
Landon sighed, as he opened the door for his grandson and Kessie.
"Let's just get this over with…" the teen grumbled again as he walked in front of his grandparents, not even thinking of waiting for them.
New Bark Town was the average small town in every region where most young trainers who've successfully become champions start their journeys. In fact, the town had been the hometown of one of Johto's trainers, Ethan. Like Red, he was on Eon's list of 'burying legacies'. While he does fault Red for the 'trend' of young trainers becoming heroes and becoming champions, he feels Ethan is one of the many cronies that has followed under his footsteps. He wants Ethan gone as much as Red, but a little less than Red to add.
Besides New Bark Town being remembered for once being the home for Ethan, many people reckon this town as the most peaceful town in the region. The town lies between Route 29, a forest route, and Route 27, a river that leads to the ocean, and then eventually, Kanto. It's also the hometown for the regional professor, Professor Elm. Elm's studies revolve around the evolution stages of Pokemon, as well as Pokemon breeding and eggs. In fact, he's the guy who gave Landon and Kessie an offer to open their own Pokemon day care in Johto, all the way near Goldenrod City.
As Eon strutted away to Elm's lab, his grandparents were having a hard time trying to keep up with his pace.
"Eon, dear…" Kessie tried to tell her grandson, "I know you're anticipated for your journey to start, but… can you please slow down?"
Eon did not say anything. He just kept walking straight to the lab, which was right in his eyes.
There it is…" he thought with a smirk on his face, My ticket to my goal…
"Eon!" Landon called for him. In response, Eon walked faster, eventually landing straight in front of the door of a big house with a light green roof.
Great! Eon thought again, This is the place! Now to make a warm welcome for the man…
Eon's 'warm welcome', unfortunately, was him banging on the front door. "Open up, Elm!" he called, "I'm here now!" But there was no response. He tried opening the door with the knob, but it was locked. "Darn professor…" he murmured, before glaring back at the door. He started banging at it faster. "Hey! Stupid! We have time wasting shorter than a Joltik here! Open this door!" Still no response.
If he doesn't open this door, I swear… he silently cursed.
"Fine!" he shouted, "We'll have to do this my way!" He stormed off ten or so feet away from the entrance. After waiting five seconds, he literally charged straight to the door.
However, it did not break down when he rammed straight into it. Though the charge did cause recoiling pain in his right arm, leaving an angry Eon to nurse it.
"What did that accomplish, exactly, Eon?" questioned an old man's voice.
Eon groaned and turned around to see his grandparents, who'd finally caught up with him. "No one asked your opinion, Geezer…" he grumbled.
He banged on the door once again. This got his grandparents to shake their heads.
"No one's livin' in this house." sighed Eon.
Kessie looked a bit worried. "Maybe… he's not home?" she suggested, "Or he might be sick…"
"No way, Maw…" said Eon, as he was about to bang the door yet again.
"Are you looking for the professor?" a girl asked.
Eon rolled his eyes. "Ah, what's it to you, madame?" he asked as he turned around to see the one who talked.
She is a girl who was almost the same age and height as Eon. She was neatly dressed, wearing a white hat with a red bow on her hat with pigtails hanging beside, a dress as well as overalls over it, denim shorts, and kneesocks. She had a yellow handbag on her left shoulder. Standing beside her was a Marill.
This young brod… Eon thought as he glared at the girl, She's probably one of those suckers who wants to idolize Red and become a stupid Champion… She'll never make it… Not when I'm around to beat her…
The girl was curiously staring at Eon as he was glaring at her. "I'm sorry." she said, "I wasn't sure if you were looking for Professor Elm or not."
"Yeah I am." Eon grumbled, "What's it to you?"
The grandparents examined the young lady. "You know that Professor Elm fellow?" asked Kessie.
"Sure!" exclaimed the girl, "I happen to be his neighbor." She turns to Eon with a friendly smile, "My name's Lyra. It's super nice to meet you!" She took out her arm to the boy.
Eon rolled his eyes. "I doubt it." he said, nonchalantly, "Name's Eon if you're wondering." He extends his own arm and shakes his hand with Lyra's.
Her hand… Eon thought as he shook Lyra's hand, It's soft… Just like her mundane personality…
Once they rescinded their hands, Lyra asked, "Are you here to get a starter Pokemon?"
"Trying to." stated Eon, "But someone's not responding…" He glared at the door, before he banged it again with his elbow.
"Well, I'm sorry to say this, but Professor Elm is coming back from running an errand in Cherrygrove City." Lyra informed the group.
"Aww, that's a shame." said Kessie, "I was afraid he wasn't gonna be here."
Eon wasn't impressed. "You sellin' tickets, missy?" he questioned.
"I'm afraid not." a frowning Lyra responded, "He was contacted to bring back a couple of eggs back from Cherrygrove City. He just called me as I was on my way here."
"Well you're gonna have to get in line, missy," said Eon, "I was here first. And I'm picking a Pokemon before you."
"Marill-Mar!" chirped Lyra's Marill.
"Oops," Lyra giggled, "You must've not paid attention to my little Marill…"
Eon looked down and saw Lyra's Pokemon right beside her. "Oh." he said, "You already have a Pokemo-" But then he realized something. "Wait a minute!" He glared at his grandparents, "No way! She started with a Marill?! Like Red, she started with a Pokemon unlike those other three you mentioned, Geezer!" He stared specifically at his grandfather.
Landon sheepishly chuckled, "I guess some people are prone to exceptions."
Eon huffed, rubbing his temples. "You've gotta be kidding me… It's bad enough Red got one, now her?!"
"C'mon, kiddo, getting either Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile is not that bad." Landon tried to reassure Eon.
"Yeah, well not if I'm gonna be fitted into a trend!"
Lyra's ears perked up. "What trend?" she asked. She and Marill looked at each other, confused on what Eon was talking about.
However, Eon did not pay attention to her. He was still going off at his grandpa, "Ya lied to me! Ya pierced the toast on this one, Geezer! How am I gonna destroy all the Champions in the world now?!" Eon clenched a fist, but went to kick the door.
"Are you okay, Eon?" asked a concerned Lyra, "You don't look too good."
"Marill…" her Marill agreed.
Eon finally acknowledged Lyra and Marill. He was shocked by how the girl was giving him concern. "I-I just…" he stammered, "I need a walk…"
Before anyone could stop him, Eon grumbled off into Route 29, murmuring to himself how the world sucks, how with a Pokemon like Chikortia, Cyndaquil, or Totodile, he's never gonna become a 'Champ-Crusher', how he'll be 'fitted' into a 'trend', and how much he hates Red.
His grandparents, Lyra, and Marill could only do nothing but look as he storms away. For twentyish seconds, nobody said anything, until…
"Is he okay?" Lyra asked Kessie and Landon.
"Sorry about that, Lyra…" said Landon, "But Eon's been going through a rough patch since… well, I don't know…" He scratched his head, trying to remember what got Eon to crack.
"He's always like that?" asked Lyra.
Landon shook his head, "Not all the time. I must say, this had to have started when his parents died, six years ago."
"Six years ago?" Lyra questioned, "That's around the time Red became champion!"
"Yes. He's also been harping on Red becoming the Indigo Champion ever since he beat the Elite Four." said Kessie, "He's been calling it a fluke."
"Why?"
"Well… one, Red started without a 'starter Pokemon'..." Kessie started.
"In Kanto, you could only start with either Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle." said Lyra, "That's understandably rare to get a Pokemon outside of one of the starter packs." She turned down to her Marill. "But for me, I got this little cutie as my starter…"
"Mar-Marill…" Marill squeaked.
"But still, why does it matter what starter he's going to get? It's not like the options he'll pick out are bad."
"It's just he finds it a 'trend' using either of the optional Grass-Fire-Water starters." said Kessie, "He knows that Red hasn't started with any of those types of Pokemon, but he keeps on saying he wants to find a starter that is much better than the one Red got."
"What? Pikachu?" asked Lyra, "There's nothing wrong with that." Marill hopped onto Lyra's shoulder as she kept on speaking, "And why's he complaining about Red in the first place? He never started with either a Grass, Fire, or Water-type. If anything, Eon sounds like he wants to idolize Red."
Kessie and Landon's eyes widened. They knew that their grandson has made it clear that he does NOT want to associate with Red in any way, nor does he want to be in a trend where Pokemon Trainers get to choose either of the required Grass-Fire-Water-type starters. He's stated very clearly to them that even though Red has received a different starter than the trainers before him, he had started the trend of trainers taking on the title of 'hero', and becoming champion from their own region. Eon just wants to be his own kind of trainer- one that can destroy champions and bury their legacies.
"Trust me, Lyra…" said Landon with a sigh, "It's gonna be a long explanation about Eon…"
Out on Route 29, Eon was still out on his walk. He was still upset about how terrible his journey is going to start by getting either a Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile. In no way was he even going to get either of them.
Once he stopped, he saw that he was nearly a mile away from the town. But then he turned back to see the rest of Route 29. He saw how the route was a small path with tall grass. He heard a rustle from one of the nearby trees, and saw a Pidgey fly out of the tree.
"Wonder if that'll be my starter…" he said, sarcastically.
He heard another few rustles. Turning his head, he saw a forest full of Sentret and Spearow trekking around a few trees. Shrugging, he walked over to go check, to see what kinds of Pokemon he might encounter. He doesn't even have a Pokemon yet, but it's not like he cares.
Heading into the forest, he could hear the sounds of Pokemon cries and rustling leaves. He couldn't believe it: Traveling on routes without the use of a Pokemon. Usually, he never got the chance to go on his own… courtesy of his grandparents always driving him around the region.
He looked to his left, and he saw a group of Spinarak crawling on top of a tree. One of them was hanging on top of a spider web. Another Spinarak was weaving the same spider web down to a tree stump.
He looked to his right, and saw a Farfetch'd sleeping with a Pidgey and Noctowl. The Pidgey was gnawing at the Farfetch'd's leek in its sleep.
As angry as he was about how he was supposed to choose either Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile, exploring on his own, seeing the wondrous previews of what it is like to be a Pokemon Trainer has given him higher hopes.
"I wonder…" he said with a smirk, "If one of these Pokemon might want to be my companion…" He was ready to find a Pokemon that'll help him with his dream. But who?
Eon looked back at the Spinarak, before turning to look back at the Farfetch'd. Those seem like contenders… he thought.
Suddenly, he heard more rustling. But that did not come from the ground. He heard from up a few trees. Was it…
A flying-type? Eon thought again, No… It has to be a bug-type… What if it's…
He ran towards the tree, looking up to see a bushy tree shaking. From the looks of it, the tree was shaking harder, and harder…
"What the?"
Suddenly, what looked like a dark sphere shot down the tree, and it landed straight onto…
BAM!
Eon fell on his back, right on the tall, damp grass. He could feel a few twigs and a rock underneath his weight. He could see up above the tree no longer shaking, but he could see a small opening amongst the trees, where he could see the blue skies. He saw the sky. But there was more than just the sky… he could see a giant dark bird flying over him.
Looking up to see what had fallen onto him, he saw a black egg, with a strange yellow shape in the middle. On the underbelly of the egg was a red circle.
What is this egg? he had pondered, What pokemon's underneath here?
Stepping up, he patted his jacket to dust off some dirt. He took another look at the egg, before he started thinking to himself again, Could the egg be from that bird?
But Eon wasn't going to waste time. He was going to find another Pokemon that would accompany him and his dream. He started to walk off further into the forest when…
Wmmm-wmm-wmm… wmm…
Eon's attention laid back to the egg, where it started wobbling and shaking. Cracks were starting to form from the egg. He squinted his eyes, examining what Pokemon was going to hatch from that egg. He knew it was going to waste time, but if it were a Pokemon he would want, then that's his opportunity to have it travel with him.
Wmm… Wmmm-wmm-wmmmmm…
The egg started shaking even harder, and then eventually…
Crrrrrrrkk!
The egg glowed a white, blinding color. And eventually, it laid a small black bird Pokemon with a hat for a head.
The bird Pokemon opened its eyes and stretched its wings, "Krroooooooww…" it yawned, looking around its surroundings.
"Huh…" said Eon, starting to recount from skimming through book pictures of Pokemon, "Murkrow…"
Eon walked over to Murkrow, and examined it. Murkrow noticed what Eon was doing and started locking eyes with him. It was confused on why Eon was looking at it funny.
"You lost there?" Eon asked the Murkrow.
Murkrow looked around again, wondering where it came from. All it saw were trees, plants, and wild Pokemon lounging about or minding their own businesses.
Murkrow looked back at Eon. "Krow…" it said.
Eon did not know what the Murkrow said, but the more he examined it, the more he thought of an idea. Since he does not want to be in the 'trend' of trainers receiving either a Grass, a Fire, or a Water-type as a starter, he feels as if he'd get a final option for an alternative. As long as his alternative is not a Pikachu that Red got, he'll be content.
Smirking at the confused Murkrow, he crawled down and gave him his elbow. "How would you like to come with me?" he asked the black bird.
Murkrow was confused. It had just hatched from its egg, and yet it's being asked to go along with a random trainer. It doesn't even know what to do or where to go yet. All it knows is that it ended up hatching from an egg in a forest.
Finding itself without any other option other than to just wander or fly around the forest, curious and confused, it hopped up on Eon's elbow. "Krow…" it said, albeit a little hesitant about the offer.
With the deal set and his starter Pokemon a Murkrow, Eon smirked at it and said, "You made the right call, coming with me… Well then, we have lots to go and explore…" He started out back onto Route 29, ready to become a 'Champ Crusher', breaking as many elite Pokemon Trainer's hearts as possible. But then he had just got a realization. "Oh right, I have to get a few things…" he said, remembering that his grandparents are back waiting outside of Professor Elm's lab, and that he needs to grab a backpack, Pokedex, and whatever else he needs for his goal.
He turned to Murkrow. "Don't fret, little one. We're just gonna head back into town for a pit stop…"
Murkrow just stared at the boy, confused. "Murkrow?" it asked.
But just as Eon was ready to leave, a spider web shot towards Murkrow. "KROW!" it yelled, before hitting a tree. It tried to break free, but it was blanketed by a web, unable to get out.
Eon turned back at whoever shot at Murkrow. "HEY!" he yelled. He saw that the one shooting the web at Murkrow was a Kakuna, with two Weedles by its side.
"You'll pay for that!" Eon cried as he picked up a rock and threw it at the Kakuna, which directly hit its head.
"Kakkkuunna…" Kakuna darkly hollered, provoked by the attack.
"Wee-Wee-Weeeeedle!" the two Weedles angrily cried, as they fired a silk web of String Shot towards Eon.
Eon dodged the attacks, picking up and throwing another rock at the group, before turning to get Murkrow unstuck from the web. "Come on, Murkrow!" he said, "You can take them on!"
"Murkrow!" Murkrow responded.
Murkrow flew towards the group of Weedle and Kakuna, vengeful for the attacks. Its yellow beak started glowing white, before it started pecking at the two Weedle, knocking them out.
"Kakkkuunnnaa!" Kakuna yelled, seeing its companions down. It jumped up at the Murkrow, before stinging it in the stomach.
"KROW!" Murkrow yelped in pain.
Murkrow tried to attack with another Peck attack, but then it started to feel sick. Purple bubbles started to pop out of the Pokemon.
"Kakkkkunnna!" Kakuna had fired another String Shot into Murkrow, covering it with a thick, silky spider web.
"Hey!" yelled Eon. Kakuna turned to see the teen, armed with a few more rocks. It was about to fire a String Shot towards him.
"Back off, ya stupid bug!" Eon threw a few rocks at it, hitting the head of Kakuna.
Murkrow shakily turned to see Eon tossing the rocks at the bug Pokemon. He was surprised to see Eon helping it, even though they have barely met.
Kakuna tried to fire a String Shot at the teen. But no matter what, Eon was still throwing a barrage of rocks towards the enemy.
Eventually, Kakuna fell back, knocked out from the barrage of rocks.
Eon ran over to examine what had happened. Seeing that the Kakuna had been knocked out, and that Murkrow is safe from certain harm, albeit poisoned, it was clear that the scene was safe to go back and travel.
"Krow…" Murkrow said to Eon.
"You'll be fine." said Eon. Seeing that Murkrow has been poisoned, he has to make his 'pit stop' longer than just picking up a few items from Professor Elm's lab. "We've got to get you outta here right now…" Without hesitating, he picked up the sickened Murkrow.
Just as he was about to find a way out of the forest, he turned to see himself confronted by a menacing Beedrill.
"Beeeeeeee…" Beedrill yelled.
Eon jerked back from the angry bug-type Pokemon. Murkrow, while it was poisoned, jerked back to see it as well. Both of them turned back to see the knocked out Kakuna and Weedles, and realized that the Beedrill was on the venge for them taking out its companions.
Eon grimaced at Beedrill, "Your pokemon attacked me first!" he yelled, "I'm not afraid of attacking you either! Bring it!" He sat the Murkrow on a tree stump, before picking up a few rocks. He started throwing them towards it.
"Beee… Beee… Beeeeeee!" Beedrill responded by using its drill-stinger arms to counter the rock throws.
"Oh you little…" Eon snarled, before going to pick up another rock. He doesn't care how much it'll take to defeat a Beedrill. He just wants it to leave him and Murkrow alone.
But suddenly, the Beedrill flew towards the teen. It tried to use its stingers to stab onto the teen. "Drill! Drill! Beeeeedrill!" It hollered as it kept trying to stab Eon.
In retaliation, Eon grabbed its arms. "You ain't doing that to me, you jerk!" he yelled. Eventually, Beedrill wrestled him to the ground.
Murkrow popped its head up to see Eon wrestling with the scary bug. It was even more shocked… and a little more touched to see him help fight the enemy Pokemon. Even though it had hatched out of its egg not for long, it knew that Eon was protecting him.
Suddenly, Eon felt a searing, stabbing pain from his left leg. "AAAAAAAUUUGH!" he screamed from the pain.
Murkrow's eyes widened to see Eon fall to the ground, clutching onto his leg. He saw that Beedrill had stung Eon in the left leg from its abdomen stinger.
Fear was fogging through Murkrow's mind. It was scared of the vengeful Beedrill, as he was concerned for Eon, who was on the ground in pain.
But Beedrill was far from over. It started to jab its drill-stingers on the helpless Eon all around. Two hits from its stingers had jabbed the teen, hitting both of his arms.
"Arrrrrgh!" yelped a pained Eon.
Suddenly, a nerve went into Murkrow's mind, as he had seen enough of Beedrill repeatedly thrashing down on Eon.
"Murrrr…" Murkrow tried to stand up. Suddenly, its beak started to glow white. "Murrr… KROW!" Suddenly, Murkrow flew towards the Beedrill, pecking on its head.
Eon looked up to see the Murkrow attacking the Beedrill.
"Drill! Drill Driiiiiiiillll!" yelled Beedrill, as it tried to counterattack Murkrow with its drill-stingers, trying to land an attack on it.
Suddenly, Murkrow's wings started emitting a darkened aura. It wasn't long until it started to slap the Beedrill using its wings, causing the Beedrill to fall over.
"Get em, Murkrow!" ordered Eon, "You can stop this monster!"
Murkrow tried to land another wing onto Beedrill, but Beedrill was able to counter its attack with a Poison Sting from its drill-stinger.
"KROOOW!" yelled the Murkrow as it fell back from the attack, dazed from the attack.
"Beeeeee…" the Beedrill buzzed as it started to circle around the poor Murkrow. It started to raise one of its stingers to land another hit onto Murkrow.
"Nooo!" yelled Eon as he crawled over and grabbed its leg, preventing it from moving further towards the Murkrow.
Beedrill noticed Eon holding onto its leg, and started to jab its right stinger towards Eon to have him let go. But Eon was not even close to letting go.
"Krow?" Murkrow regained consciousness and noticed Beedrill near it. It saw Eon holding onto its leg as Beedrill was trying to have him let go.
Using the opportunity to defeat it, Murkrow's beak started to glow white. "Muurrrrr…" it said, as it flew towards the bug, pecking furiously at its head. "KROW, KROW, KROW, KROW!" it yelled with every peck towards the head.
Beedrill was knocked back from Murkrow's attacks, lying unconscious.
Murkrow was left, still standing. It felt proud. "Krow!" it exclaimed, happy with it emerging victoriously over the nasty Beedrill. But then, the poison started to get the best of him and he fell to the ground.
Seeing that Murkrow had just finished off the Beedrill, Eon sighed with relief. But as he tried to stand up to get to Murkrow, he could feel the pain. It was coming everywhere from his body; his leg, his arms; everywhere he felt, he was in so much pain.
"Gyah…" he reacted in agony, "This is gonna be more than just a pit stop…"
"Kroooow…" Murkrow agreed, responding in the same pain as Eon was feeling.
Eon limped to the Murkrow, recoiling with all the pain he was feeling in his system. He picked it up, before turning to see where he could find an exit out of the forest.
"Alright…" he said, "Let's get ourselves outta here…" He started to limp his way back into town, with a sick Murkrow in his arms.
"Murrrr…" Murkrow groaned in pain from the poison and attacks from the Beedrill.
As much pain Eon was feeling from the attack, he could not help but feel happy for Murkrow helping him when he was getting thrashed down. He turned down to see the Murkrow in his arms. "Hey…" he got the Murkrow's attention, "You and I would definitely be a great match for my journey… Y'know that?"
Murkrow stared at Eon. While it was in a lot of pain, it remembered how Eon had helped him when he was getting attacked and webbed by the Kakuna and Weedles. It's true, it has nowhere else to go. It just hatched from an egg. On the other hand, it couldn't help but notice the help and effort Eon had given it. It smiled very weakly and said, "Kroooow…", while nodding towards the teen.
The teen smirked, "Perfect… After we're healed, we can go out… and crush as many trainers as possible…"
Still limping to New Bark Town with pain searing across his leg and arms, Eon started to feel confident. Now that he's found his starter Pokemon, he could not wait until he can go out and become an unstoppable trainer, that not even the champions, or even 'pathetic' Red, can stop him. He was ready.
