Chapter 2
Bonding With A Dragon
0o0
Hinata walked out of the Lightning Town gates and looked at Raiden with uncertainty who looked back at her with confidence. "You will be able to do this, Hinata." He stated, going down on his knees to place his hands on her shoulders in a reassuring way. "This is something everyone does alone. Something I can not help you with much. You are the one who will pick the dragon. You are the one who will make the decision. Not me and not anyone else. I promise you I will be in this town when you come back. I'll get you more Cinnamon Rolls and Dango when you get back and we'll go to a BBQ place while we're at it."
Hinata nodded hesitantly. Everyone did this part of their Dragon Master career alone so it would be no difference for her. She was the one who would make the decisions. "Thank you." She whispered.
Raiden nodded standing up and then looked at her seriously. "I give you two days to come back. If you're not back by then I will go searching for you. Got it?"
Hinata nodded more confidently this time. "I understand. I will be able to do this." She was surprised that she didn't stutter once.
Raiden nodded. "This will be a walk in the park for you." He chuckled brightly.
That's how that conversation ended shortly after they said goodbye, Raiden promising to come looking for her if she didn't come back in two days. She was now walking alone, rubbing her hands together. It was kinda cold and she only had on her dojo training outfit. She put her hand in her pant pockets and played with the Dragon Crystal in there. She would use this to capture the dragon she wanted. Then it would melt or something and then she would have the Dragon Tattoo. That was what Raiden said after all.
She really had no clue on how to begin the search on finding her future partner, really. This was very confusing and so much to handle. She was honestly surprised that she was able to remain composed and calm during the entire explanation Raiden had given her. She had no clue a place like this existed. She had no clue there was another Realm. Let alone a Realm dedicated to dragons and all these new abilities but the weirdest thing of it all was that she felt calm here and more comfortable here than she had been in the Ninja Realm. Here she was not known as a Hyuga. Here she was just Hinata. She could be Hinata. No Hyuga and no expectations to live up too. No elders eyes prying into her life and looking deep into her. Her father wasn't here to belittle her and Neji wasn't here to use her as a punching bag.
She had made a friend with Raiden. A man who she had never met before, someone who was willing to explain everything with her and take his time in explaining the things she had trouble understanding. She wasn't a burden to him and he looked pleasantly happy being in her presence. Which made her happy because she finally was doing some good with herself. He was looking out for her and it made her happy. She felt protected, something she had not felt in a while.
Maybe she could just fake her death in the Ninja Realm and stay here for the rest of her life. She chuckled at that and quickly shook her head at it. That wouldn't happen. She kicked a small rock as she walked, lost in thought as she thought about what kind of nature she wanted her dragon to be. If she could have all of them it would be amazing. She giggled as she pictured herself cuddling up with cute small dragons of any type.
She perked up when she heard the sound of a waterfall. She looked around herself to realize that she wasn't in the lightning area of the Realm anymore and from the sound of the water and the lighter blue rocks on the ground she was able to conclude that she most definitely reached the water area. Her eyes widened slightly, she could find a river and see if she could still use Chakra here. She walked over to the sound of the water and found herself at a river stream. Seconds later she found herself walking along the river to see the end of it.
She let out a gasp when she got towards the edge. She was looking down at a waterfall, as she looked straight ahead she saw many other waterfalls and streams leading to this point, the water making a pool. Her mouth dropped when she saw a town standing on top of the water. Blinking her eyes, "This must be Water Town."
The entire place was very magical looking. The vibe screamed peace and happiness. She looked around and saw a small staircase going down to the town, some people were already walking down. Some children ran down racing each other while their small dragons flew faster above their heads with smiles on their faces. She walked over to the staircase and let her hand touch the railing. The stairs were marble white, the railing as well. It looked well with the colors of the waterfall and the water around the town.
Hinata looked on with awe as she slowly crept her way down the stairs. She let out a wow but then shook her head rapidly. She needed to find a dragon and then she could explore this beautiful looking town. So she walked away, making sure to remember the location of the town so she could come and visit.
She sighed to herself as she walked. She probably wouldn't, considering that she had to get back to Konoha as soon as possible or risk the chance of her father sending assassins to kill her. She shuddered.
So she continued on her journey to find her future dragon partner.
. . .
She came by a lot of dragons as she walked. She saw a few lightning and water ones but they didn't hit her. Like she knew that it wasn't the one for her. What she learned by walking for a couple of hours was that many dragons liked to stay in caves. So that's what she did. She started looking for caves.
She heard small roars and whimpers. So she followed the noise that led to a cave. On the ground to the entrance of the cave was a water droplet-shaped design and a lightning bolt. Inside the cave came the noises. She walked in.
Her anxiety was screaming for her not to go in, considering that there could be a chance she would be endangered.
The sight in front of her scared her or worried her. In all honestly it made her sad and a little bit mad.
In front of her were a bunch of dragons. A family. Hinata assumed. Considering the designs before coming into the cave and now seeing the dragons looking a lot like each other made her assume this was the cave where this family of dragons lived.
All the dragons watched one scene play. In the middle of a cave stood a tall black dragon. His tail was water like but there was electricity going around his body. A hybrid. Hinata thought. Lightning and water. This dragon was roaring, he looked mad.
He was looking at a much smaller dragon, who whimpered as it stared down at the floor. The smaller dragon had lavender, almost snow-white, colored skin. Its tail was a weird combination but Hinata thought it was cool. At the edge of the tail, half of it was liquid like water and the other half was sharp lightning, flickering on and off. Its wings were small, the edges of the wings were water-like. Its eyes were almost the exact same color of her eyes. Lightning sparked around it as well but it was very weak. The entire dragon screamed weak. It wasn't defending itself.
Hinata's eyes widened. This scene reminded her about her father and herself. How she would let her father belittle her when he deemed she was weak or doing something wrong. He yelled at her, screamed, and roared.
And that's probably what was going on between the bigger dragon and the smaller dragon.
The bigger dragon, Hinata assumed the father, considering the way it held itself and roared, was probably belittling the smaller lavender skinned dragon for being weak.
And it honestly made Hinata really mad. The dragon was still a baby, what did the father expect? Some prodigy?
She stayed silent and watched the scene unfold. The bigger dragon roared once again, his mouth opened and lightning struck out making sure that it hit the smaller dragon directly. Hinata's eyes widened and in the corner of her eye she saw some other dragons flinch. The smaller dragon whimpered once again and tears welled up in its eyes. The lightning strike caused the smaller dragon to bruise and bleed.
Hinata cried for the dragon, clearly now understanding what was happening.
The bigger dragon roared once more and the smaller let out a whimper and a little whine but nodded its head. The bigger dragon roared once more letting out another lightning struck. The smaller dragon let it hit and after crying and whimpering from the pain, it turned around and walked away and flew up in the air with difficulty. Considering that its wings were bruised and bleeding it wouldn't get far.
Hinata dried her tears, now understanding what happened. The father dragon had just banished his child from ever coming near its family and cave ever again.
Hinata's byakugan blazed awake as she quickly dashed out of the cave. She had to make sure the dragon was okay. She dashed around the area to find the dragon. Her worries grew more and more when minutes ticked by and she couldn't find it. She let out a gasp of relief and halted in her running and quickly turned to the other side and started dashing.
The dragon laid there, looking like it was sleeping, next to a river. Realization crossed her eyes when she realized that this was most likely a river that led into Water Town, so that was good. She deactivated her Byakugan. Now she knew she could use chakra in this Realm. Hinata looked intently at the dragon. It was still bleeding and bruised and dirt-covered its skin.
She sighed in frustration, realizing that she had nothing to help clean the dragon up and she didn't want to take the chance of the dragon leaving if she went into town for a while to collect things. Then Hinata also realized that would be a no go anyway since she had no money to afford anything.
In the end, she decided to take off her training shirt. She blushed as she walked over to the river and dipped her shirt into it. She hoped that no one would come into this area to see her like this. She twisted her shirt to let some water out and then carefully walked towards the dragon. The dragon stood quickly and took a step back.
Hinata smiled at the dragon. "I'm not going to hurt you." She whispered. "I just want to help you and make sure you get better," Hinata said this and didn't make a move to walk forward, not wanting to scare the dragon even more. The dragon took more steps back, glaring at her.
Hinata also took steps back, still smiling at the dragon. "Okay, I'll just wait here then." She stated simply and sat down. Hinata could see the tired look in his eyes and the way it flinched when it moved. The dragon needed help and she really wanted to help the dragon but she knew she couldn't force it so she waited hoping that the dragon would see that she was not a threat and would let her help it.
That's how the day went. They stayed in their positions like that, not daring to move. The small dragon laid curled up to itself on the floor. Hinata sat a couple of feet away from it staring at it, with the same calming smile on her face.
Soon that smile turned into a frown. "I know the feeling." She whispered. The small dragon ears perked up but did no effort to move. Hinata didn't see it, as she was looking down at the floor. "Of not having enough power or strength to please your family. The feeling of being unwanted within your family. I know the feeling all too well." The dragon's head picked up at her words and his lavender eyes stared at her. This small weird looking girl knew how he felt? How his family treated him?
"My family doesn't like me." She whispered. "They think I am too weak and not fit to rule the clan. You see, I'm supposed to be heiress but the way things in the clan are going right now and my inability to improve, it's almost definite that my younger sister will take the title from me. It's alright for me though, I had accepted that a while ago. Nothing will help me, unless I become like god or something but that won't happen."
The dragon let out a small smile before it returned to a frown.
"I'm sure my father would have disowned me by now if I didn't have the Byakugan." Hinata started explaining after a pause. "So I understand how you feel. You're not alone." Hinata picked up her head and lavender eyes stared at each other. "You're also a very cute dragon."
The small dragon blushed slightly before lowering his head.
Hinata's head tilted to the side. "Are you a boy or a girl?" The dragon lifted his head. She did not know his gender? Hinata stood up and walked over to a small tree and climbed it with her hand and legs and took a stick. "Use this to write your name on the floor."
The dragon stared at her. Is this girl assuming that he knew how to write?
Hinata saw the look on the dragon's face and giggled. She walked towards the dragon and smiled happily noticing that the dragon wasn't walking away. She used the stick to write two words on the ground. She wrote the word boy and next to it the word girl. The dragon watched with wonderment. The girl pointed to the first word and said, "That's boy." and then to the word next to it, "and that's girl. Please use this stick to circle which one you are." She started holding the stick out to the dragon. The dragon blinked its eyes. It took the stick in its mouth and circled the first word the girl had written on the floor. "You're a boy!" Hinata exclaimed, clapping her hands excitedly. "So cute!"
The dragon blinked, not understanding what this girl was so happy about. He grimaced as the pain on his body became even more to handle. He looked at the sky. It was night, he would sleep and if the girl was still there in the morning he would let her help him. He closed his eyes curling into himself and letting his head rest on his body. Soon the pain drifted him to sleep.
Hinata watched the dragon with a smile and let out an aw. "So cute!" She grinned, clapping her hands. She waited a couple of more minutes making sure that the dragon was fast asleep and then walked over to him. Thankfully her shirt was still wet, gently, and carefully used her shirt to clean the blood, bruises, and dirt on his skin. She had to make sure to get back to town to get food for him and maybe get a new shirt for herself.
She looked down at the shirt in her hand, it was dirty now, dirt and blood covered it. She grimaced and shook her head and cleaned the last bit of dirt and dried blood on the dragon. As she looked at the peaceful dragon sleeping. It hit her.
"You're the one." She whispered. Her hand went into her pocket and pulled the Dragon Crystal out. Did the dragon want to be captured? He refused help, maybe he didn't. Hinata sighed and put the Dragon Crystal back into her pocket, she will figure it out. She shivered. At night the wind blew roughly in the water area of the Realm. She rubbed her hands together. She frowned and put her shirt back on, the wet cloth making her shake with cold when the wetness hit her skin. She got next to the dragon and very gently, making sure not to hurt or wake him up, pulled one of his wings around her like a blanket, and gently rested her body on his body and let sleep hit her.
. . .
He was the first to wake up. He felt rested and his body did not hurt as badly as the night before, it stung yes but the agonizing pain of being hit by two lightning strikes was not there. He felt a small weight on him. He picked up his head and looked over to his right-wing. His eyes widened, bewildered. Had this girl healed him while he was sleeping? Maybe that was the weird sensation he felt while asleep. She was using his wing as a blanket to keep warm. He lifted his wing to take a closer look at the girl. She had on the shirt she probably used to clean him up. He frowned, that did not seem comfortable considering the blood, dirt, and wetness on the shirt. She wanted to keep warm so she had put on her shirt and used his wing to shield her from the wind.
This girl actually cared about him. He smiled and liked the warmth her body was giving him. He placed his wing over her again and waited until she woke up.
An hour later Hinata woke up and stared straight at lavender eyes. "Hi." She whispered, rubbing her eyes. "I cleaned you while you were asleep." The dragon nodded. "I need to go to town to get some food for you and me and then we can spend more time getting to know each other."
The dragon nodded. He did want food.
"You stay here, okay?" Hinata asked. The dragon nodded once more. "Good boy." Hinata cooed. The dragon blinked and frowned. He just wanted food.
. . .
She would probably never get used to the amazing view of Water Town. It was absolutely magical. She walked down the white marble stairs quickly, apologizing if she bumped into someone. She made it at the end of the stairs and walked over a wooden bridge and made her way into town. The roads were cobblestone. Many different shops on the sides, kids running about playing tag with each other and their small dragons.
Her eyes widened slightly and a small smile formed on her face as she recognized a man with fire like hair. "Ryuu!" She called out running to him.
Ryuu turned around his black eyes piercing into her lavender ones. For a second Hinata swore she saw a kind of darkness Neji Hyuga and Sasuke Uchiha possessed but in a matter of seconds it was gone, replaced with a sort of calmness. Hinata didn't know what to think about it.
"Hey, newbie." He waved and looked down at her. "Where is Raiden?"
Hinata shook her head, concluding that she was seeing it. "He's in Lightning Town." She explained. "I'm on a journey to find my dragon. I actually found him a while ago but now I need food for him."
Ryuu nodded. "Why does your shirt reek of blood and dirt, and why is it drenched?"
"My dragon was hurt and I had nothing so I used my shirt."
"He was hurt?" Ryuu asked, placing his hands in his pocket.
"Yeah, family issues," Hinata replied, not wanting to get into details.
A look of understanding flashed his eyes, then once again the darkness was there for a split second and then gone. "Alright, let's get you some food and a new shirt."
Hinata nodded and thanked him. As they walked down the road, she asked, "Why are you in Water Town? I thought you would be the type to stay in Fire Town."
Ryuu chuckled. "Yeah. I came here to pay someone a visit, catch up and stuff. I plan on leaving before night rises."
They stayed quiet after that. They got the food and a new lavender shirt for herself. She held the brown bag of food in her hand and bowed at the red-haired adult. "Thank you."
"No problem," Ryuu responded. "See you around."
Hinata nodded and turned around and walked away. She walked over the wood bridge and then ran up the marble stairs, skipping some steps while doing so. She placed the bag down, did a couple of hand signs, and awakened her Byakugan. She picked up the bag again and dashed when she spotted the dragon.
The dragon was still in the same position. She walked over to him, sat down, and placed the brown bag in front of her. "I got some dragon fruit, meat, and some plants." The dragon smiled and reached over to the dragon fruit. Hinata's eyes widened with happiness. "Do you like dragon fruits?" The dragon nodded, the dragon fruit in between his white teeth. "I'll make sure to get a lot next time."
The dragon looked at her. This human seemed very nice and caring. Hinata blushed and ducked down. And seemed a little weird. The girl lifted her head and took out the Dragon Crystal. "I basically don't have a clue on how to do any of this but I would like for you to become my best friend." She stated and placed the crystal in front of her.
The dragon finished munching on his dragon fruit and looked at the crystal. He stared at it before using his claw to push the crystal back to her. Hinata furrowed her eyebrows and pushed it back. The dragon pushed it back. "I want to capture you."
The dragon blinked.
"So we can be amazing friends and I promise to always protect you!" Hinata exclaimed out and once again pushed the crystal back. The dragon looked at her and a thoughtful expression on his face. Then the dragon nodded and picked it up with his claw and placed it in Hinata's open hand. Hinata blinked and was about to retort but noticed that the dragon used his claw to point at its forehead. He pointed at the crystal and then at his forehead.
Hinata nodded, understanding, and stood up. She gently placed the Dragon Crystal against his forehead and poured a bit of chakra in it. The crystal lit up a small lavender glow which they turned into a light blue and dark blue gradient. The dragon stayed there calmly, like the feeling that Crystal was giving him.
A thin layer of sky blue aura appeared around him. He felt the chakra engulf him. Hinata watched in wonderment as the chakra surrounded him until it was just a blue dot. The blue dot touched the Dragon Crystal. The Dragon Crystal glowed and then turned a bluish-purple color.
She felt the Crystal melt in her hand and she watched as it oozed into a bluish liquid substance. It moved up her arm making her squirm and shiver at the weird feeling. It was cold and the feeling gave her goosebumps. The liquid went to her shoulder then up her neck, to her chin, then cheek until it covered her right eye. On instinct she closed her eyes. She felt herself grow anxious. Would this affect her byakugan? She hoped not or else her father would have a field day with her.
And she didn't want that. She kept her eyes shut, the liquid substance didn't move. She felt it shift into an image. Was her tattoo going to be around her eye? She felt the substance disappear and she opened her eyes. The Dragon Crystal was gone, the dragon was gone. She placed her finger around her right eye. She frowned. Was the tattoo there?
Hinata hasty ran over to the clear river and moved her head to stare at her reflection and her breath hitched.
The tattoo was there. Over her right eye. It was a small lavender dragon tattoo. The head and neck was above the eye, while the tail and the other half of the body was below her right eye. Hinata actually liked the design of it. It was very cool and Hinata found everything that happened around her very interesting but she would prefer if that liquid substance wouldn't be part of the process. It made her uneasy and shivered.
Hinata cupped her hands under the water and splashed her face. "I just need to figure out how to get father to accept this."
Do you not like the tattoo there? I can change it for you. A small child-like voice stated in her head.
Hinata gaped, her jaw-dropping. "W-What?"
It's okay. I'm the dragon. We are now together and we can communicate through our thoughts. I'm also new too so we will learn together.
Hinata blinked and sat down, trying to process everything. Raiden did not mention any of that. She rubbed her forehead with her hand. She felt stressed. She opened her mouth to speak again. "I didn't know that." She whispered.
That's alright. You can also think about what you want to say instead of speaking out loud.
Hinata nodded her head. Okay, I see. This is so strange. Also I don't mind the tattoo being there. I like it. Why did you pick that spot?
Your eyes are like mine. I like it, they are cool looking. My name is Yuki.
Hinata smiled and blushed and she let her hand dip into the river. I like your name. I'm Hinata Hyuga. You don't have to change the location of the tattoo. I just don't know what I'm going to tell my family when they see.
Oh. I can try to make it disappear but I don't think it will work. I can only move it.
It's okay. Hinata thought. If it doesn't work I will just have to convince them. Hinata stared at the water and waited to get a response from Yuki. She saw that her tattoo started glowing but then soon stopped.
It won't work. Yuki stated sadly, disappointment seeping through his voice.
Hinata frowned. It's alright, don't be sad. I will just convince them. It won't be that hard hopefully. Hinata stayed quiet once again before thinking. How do I get you to come out?
It's like a voice command. Yuki started explaining to Hinata. I'm not sure what it is though.
Hinata chuckled gently. We'll figure it out. Hinata stood up, wiping some dirt off of her pants. "Time to get back to Lightning Town." Before heading towards Lightning Town, she decided to take a better view of Water Town.
I don't understand why you chose me. Yuki started. I am a weak dragon. You can probably find a younger dragon then me and it'll be stronger.
Hinata shrugged as she walked. I am weaker than you. I don't care about that. You were cute looking and I felt like we had a connection, that is why I chose you not because if you were strong or not.
Not that many people think that way. Some people just capture dragons so they can be powerful and if that dragon is not strong enough they kill the dragon.
You won't die. I will protect you. I won't do that and I won't let anyone hurt you. After that Yuki stayed quiet. Hinata did too, not bothering to think or speak out loud. She walked around town, saw cute dragons, and looked at the clear water that surrounded the town. After looking around for an hour or two she decided to head off towards Lightning Town.
The only problem now, is that she didn't know which way that was. She frowned. Do you know how to get to Lightning Town?
I do. Yuki answered. I would be able to fly you there but we don't know how to get me out of here.
Hinata nodded and thought back to when she first saw Ryuu and Raiden, what had they said to get them to get back into the tattoo? Maybe if she just said the opposite of what they said. She dashed out town and into the clearing.
"Yuki, come out!" She exclaimed. She waited and waited.
Nothing happened.
I can see that.
"Yuki, unleash!"
Nothing.
I know.
"Dragonfruit!"
Yuki snorted. Did you really think that would work?
Not really, Hinata laughed, it was worth a shot though.
"Yuki, release!" Hinata felt her tattoo light up and burn slightly but it was nothing compared to the burn she felt when she first arrived here. A small dot appeared in front of her face and she saw the dot move towards the ground and expanded into the shape of Yuki. Hinata clapped her eyes as she saw Yuki blink at her. "It worked!"
Yuki nodded his head. Hinata saw a small smile appear on his face and then used one of his claws to point at his back, hop on. Let's get to Lightning Town.
Hinata squealed and leaped on her dragon's back. "Yes, yes, yes!" She cheered. "Fly, Yuki!" She heard Yuki laugh and then felt them lift up in the air.
Be careful, Yuki warned. I'm not the best flyer out there.
Hinata paled. "What?"
