Dear Mathias,

It's been 4 years now, have you accomplished what you have planned? It's difficult for us to believe that you're still alive. Please send us something if you were able to receive this. Christmas is coming soon, I'm pretty sure Tino will write to you. hate to say this but we'll probably go searching for you if you're not back for the next 3 years. Why were those letters sent back? Are you still surviving out there somewhere? If you're pretending you're dead, don't believe that we're not going to kill you when you come back.

Best regards,

"And that is the last letter ever written to Mathias," I told the other two who just happened to be here as well. How did Leon and Erika end up in my situation? Long story short; it all happened two weeks ago.

Tino invited our friends over for Christmas since it was always a family tradition for us to gather up during this time. I thought about inviting over some of my friends as well just to lighten up the mood a bit. Tino considers that it would be very lonely if only him, Berwald and I were the ones celebrating Christmas in this rather large house of ours.

You're probably wondering where Lukas went. About that, my older brother left one morning, only leaving a note that said, "See you soon" on the kitchen table. None of us knew where he went.

Leon and Erika suggested looking through some of the letters that Lukas wrote since there might be some clues on where in the world Lukas and Mathias went. It was quite ambiguous how the letters were all sent back. That means Mathias should be alive out there somewhere. He told us that he'd been off to Copenhagen…who knows where that idiot went.

But, it was just last week, when things started to get weird…

Last Week…

Tino was serving the guests we invited over (quite a lot if you ask me) with dinner. Francis and Arthur were practically nagging each other the entire night, and just don't even mention about how loud the Italian bros were. I didn't feel like doing anything then. Why did Tino have to invite everyone over in the first place? Eduard was trying to convince us to live with him, Alfred was pretending to be the 'hero', and I believe the only sane ones were Leon and Matthew.

Everyone came on the day that Lukas left 32 years ago, but it was just a coincidence. For 32 years we've never heard from him. He might as well just be dead by now; he never came home, never sent us anything, just left one morning and disappeared as Mathias did 36 years ago. Why did Mathias leave? I was too young to remember, but I heard somethings about a different world. Everything was a mess. The day everyone came over, November 24, was a night with a round and bright full moon up in the sky. It was a peaceful night, until (I apologize for saying this) the guests made everything chaotic.

Thank you for inviting them over. You know what's next.

A note was under my cup when we ate, but I didn't bother taking it seriously. It was probably just some of the guests trying to scare me just because I'm a 'kid'. I looked at the date, it was 1969, the year that Mathias left. If it was one of the guests, then why would the date be 1969…would it just be another coincidence?

After that day, I found more and more of the same message for the next few days, until it stopped on the 29th. However, something different came on the 30th. The date was 2001 this time, not 1969.

Drawing room

Emil Steilsson

Emil Steillsson? The person who is writing me these notes probably met me before, or are they just a stalker? Was it a joke Alfred's playing? By drawing-room, it probably meant going to the room at that hour. I thought about whether listening to the message or not and why not it check out?

The guests were all asleep, so I tried to make my way downstairs as quietly as possible. There was a light that shone in the dark hallways, what was it? I thought. I was sure that all the lights were turned off around 11:30 PM. I wasn't hallucinating, was I? Maybe someone woke up to go to the bathroom, but there were bathrooms inside their guest rooms, so why was the light turned on? I wasn't quite sure about the case; it probably didn't matter anyway. It's not like that they're going on a murder spree.

While I made my way down the stairs, I heard a door creak open. Just the wind I guessed, or was it the person who decided to meet with me? I continued walking since it was already 11:58 and being late wouldn't have done me any good.

There was no one there when I entered. The curtains fluttered below the bright moon. I felt a gentle gust of cool wind that blew in, and something white stood out in the darkroom. A piece of paper lied next to the vase on the table. There was something written on it; a set of numbers.

0407

Now I'm sure that no one will be meeting with me. It was just another note all along. Something's got to be peculiar about the drawing-room; a secret that either Mathias or Lukas left us, or else why would the note be in the drawing-room in the first place?. I was looking around the room until I felt something cold. The wind stopped and the windows closed. It was silent. In the silence, I heard footsteps coming this way. They were heavy ones and sounded as if someone was carrying something. I felt something ice-cold touch my shoulder. My heart raced. My mind debated to either turn around or not.

I decided to turn around.

There was no one there.

Everything came back to normal again. The windows were open, the wind blew in, and I could hear the owls that were hooting. What was it, was I hallucinating? I'm pretty sure it was all just a hallucination. I probably dozed off a bit, I mean, it was midnight after all. Scary things usually happen at 3 AM, so there wasn't anything I needed to worry about. I made my way back upstairs; one of the guests was out in the hallways, holding something.

This was real.

What they were holding? It wasn't clear enough for me to see in the dark, but it glimmered beneath some of the moonlight that shone through the window. I hid in one of the empty rooms and waited for the guest to pass, in case I get murdered, then I quickly went back to my room.

What did the number mean? I questioned myself. There were many things I wanted to know. Was Lukas back? What about the guest, who was it and what were they holding? It wasn't long until I fell asleep afterwards. Questions were still swarming my head even in my dreams.

Things were pretty chill the next day. We received our usual mail and newspaper, but there was a flaxen coloured envelope that stood out from all those other envelopes and flyers.

"For me?" I asked Berwald

"Mhm," he replied. When I said things went back to normal, things were still a bit off. The person who sent me the letter was unknown, but it must have been someone I knew.

0407 0407 0407 0407 0407 0407

0407 0407 0407 0407 0407 0407

0407 0407 0407 0407 0407 0407

0407

That number I saw the last night was the only thing written in the letter. It repeated 19 times. The person who sent me the letter must have known that I saw the note from the drawing-room. Was it one of the guests? There was that cold touch I felt on my shoulders, the guest that carried something which was possibly a knife, and the light that turned on. But taking a good look at the numbers,

I realized what it had meant.

It must have been related to one of the guests and a plan that one of the other Nordics was thinking of.

Dear Mathias,

September 18, 1965

It's been a week since you left. Emil is still glum about your departure.

Isn't it stupid for you to just leave one day, without telling us beforehand? You said you wanted to see a different world, a new one that no one has ever encountered before. Why do you think such things? I know it might not be possible to find one, but even though you're stupid, we all think that you're too stupid to give up.

How is going back to Denmark like? We're sure that you can find something there. Please write us back, or send something. Who knows what situation an idiot like you will end up in. If you find a different world, just go.

Best regards,

Lukas Bondevik

"The first letter from Lukas to Mathias…something that talks about a different world…" Erika asked. Despite how fragile she looked, the girl was quite strong and fearless.

"What do you think 'a different world' means?" I asked them.

"What if," Leon replied, "what if Mathias was trying to look for a different dimension? It does say 'a new one that no one has ever encountered before'"

"You have a point" I replied with.

"See?"

"But where do you think your brother Lukas went?" Asked Erika,

"No one knows. He's the most mysterious out of all of us. At least we can briefly understand why Mathias left."

"Take a look at the last letter,"

I took the last letter Lukas wrote from Leon. "It says, 'we'll probably go searching for you if you're not back for the next 3 years'…"

"If you think that Lukas went searching for Mathias, it wouldn't make sense since it says '3 years' not 1 day"

"Your brother might have left earlier. He was probably the one who worried about Mathias the most…"

"I guess we can say Lukas left for Mathias now, can we?"

"Mhm," the other two replied.

"But those numbers," asked Erika, "what do they stand for?"

"I'm afraid I can't tell you much," I said.

The numbers weren't any number, it was a warning.

It's someone who is with us right now…

And that's that!
