Tell Me How To Fix You

Chapter 17 - Part 3

By: The Duchess of Arendelle

AN: Sorry for any mistakes. I usually read over each chapter on five separate occasions to ensure I'm looking at it with fresh eyes, but today I read over it only twice because I wanted to go ahead and post. But as far as I know, I didn't catch any big ones. ENJOY!

"A- A coma? Oh God… H-how? Why? Is he- is he going to be okay?" Anna asked, trying to keep her voice level but failing miserably. She glanced over her shoulder to look at Elsa, the blonde still sat on the couch, oblivious to what was going on.

"Anna, calm down, please. The doctors said if he makes it through the night and the swelling on his brain goes down, he will definitely wake up again… They just don't know when that might be…" Kristoff informed Anna, trailing off at the end.

"So he could wake up tomorrow or ten years from now?" Anna asked devastated. Kristoff hesitated and then sighed.

"Yeah, that's about the gist of it…" Anna could hear the despair in Kristoff's voice and more tears came streaming out if her eyes. Kristoff could hear Anna quietly sobbing and pushed aside his own sadness and doubts to comfort her.

"Everything's going to be alright Anna. You know Olaf, he's a fighter and he's not going down without one. You'll see, we'll have our guy back just in time for summer." Kristoff tried to cheer Anna up. Anna let out a half choked laugh.

"So dry your tears, Olaf is going to be better than ok. Besides, you need to be strong for Elsa. How do you think she's going to feel when you tell her?" Kristoff said to the redhead as her eyes widen. That's right. She had completely forgotten. She was going to have to be the one to break this terrible news to Elsa. Anna swallowed hard around the lump in her throat and dried her tears. Kristoff was right. She had to at least pretend to be strong, for Elsa's sake.

"You're right. Olaf's going to be fine and I have to be strong. Thanks for calling to tell me about everything. Really, you're a great person, I don't know what I'd do if something were to happen to you too." She said honestly. Kristoff smiled at that and found himself blushing. He quickly cleared his throat and responded.

"You'd probably raid my house for chocolate and kidnap Sven for yourself." He joked, breaking the tension and ending the tender moment. Anna did laugh at that and she felt the tinniest bit better. But worry and unsureness still clung to her.

After a few more minutes of chatter and Anna and the Hauften's both forcing Kristoff to get off the phone and go home for a few hours, Anna hung up her cell, sighing deeply. She was now sitting down on one of the high stools in Elsa's kitchen. She laid her head gently on the cool surface of the real marble island. How was she going to tell Elsa about everything that was going on? She kept her head on the counter top, loving the way it was cooling her flushed face, until she heard shuffling behind her. She was about to lift her head and look up, but stopped when she heard Elsa sit down beside her. The blonde too laid her head down on the immaculately clean surface. Anna turned her head to stare at the beautiful woman next to her.

"Hi." Anna said simply with a small smile.

"Hi." Elsa replied back. It was the first words she'd spoken in the three hours since the bathroom incident. They stayed quiet for a moment after that, heads still down, staring into the other's eyes. Elsa finally took in a deep breath and slowly let it out. Anna noted that the blonde smelled just like fresh peppermint. She briefly wondered of her lips tasted like peppermint as well.

"Aren't you going to tell me what all that was about on the…?" she asked, making the phone sign with her fingers. Anna looked a bit shocked and then sheepish. Her eyes glanced away for a moment, before looking back into Elsa's. Anna sighed too, then spoke.

"It's not good Elsa, but it's not too bad either. Are you sure you want to hear this?" she asked hesitantly.

"Of course I do. He's my brother Anna." Elsa responded.

"Okay…" Anna said, then spent the next ten minutes relaying to Elsa everything Kristoff had told to her. After she finished the two finally sat up. Elsa was now looking down into her lap. Tears welled in her ice blue eyes but refused to fall.

"It's happening all over again…" Elsa whispered to herself. Anna heard and stared at Elsa, confused.

"What's happening all over again?" she asked as she moved to place a comforting hand on Elsa's back. The blonde flinched at the contact but other than that did not move away. She also ignored Anna's question and instead just sat there, lost in thought.

"What do we got?" a voice shouted out as her father handed her over to a lady in a funny looking uniform. Elsa didn't recognize the voice, but she tried not to pay too much attention to it, her chest hurt and her head felt all dizzy.

"Two kids. One in shock with respiratory alkalosis, minor hypothermia and a gash on her left cheek. The other with major head trauma, severe hypothermia, cerebral hemorrhaging, and a cracked skull perhaps." Another voice yelled back. Why were they yelling? It was making her chest tighten even more and the dizziness in her head increase. Suddenly there was a bright light be shown in her eyes. Elsa tried to open her mouth to protest but found that she couldn't move or speak.

"Yep, defiantly shock." The first voice said as they took the light away from her eyes. Elsa began to panic even more. What was going on? Why couldn't she move or talk? Her breathing began to spike again dangerously and she heard a bunch of voices saying so. She couldn't breathe and the pain in her chest was unbearable.

"Give her a sedative, now! I also want her on an I.V. drip, ASAP!" A man's voice yelled as they laid her down on what felt like a hard bed.

In the background she could hear a woman crying. When the woman sobbed out her and Olaf's name, Elsa could now tell it was her mother. Why was her mother crying? She heard her father saying something to her mother but she couldn't make out what he said. Another explosion of noise hit when she heard rapid beeping and saw five doctors join the other three at Olaf's bedside. So she was in a hospital? But why? Out of nowhere, Elsa felt a sharp sting in her right arm. A shot?! She had already gotten her flu shots! In a matter of seconds, Elsa began to feel unbelievably sleepy. Her head slowly lolled to the side. Before Elsa blacked out, she saw her brother being rolled away on a hospital bed, through big swinging doors as her parents looked on in despair. They were hugging each other, her mother crying freely and her father trying his best to stay strong. Her last conscious thought was,

"This is all my fault…"

"Elsa?" Anna called out her name hesitantly. The blonde had been staring blankly into space for about five minutes now.

"Elsa." She said again, this time successfully pulling the girl out of her memories. Elsa shook her head a bit, she looked slightly disoriented. The blonde stared at Anna for a second before looking away. She couldn't stand the fact that Anna held so much worry and care in those gorgeous aqua blue eyes, for her. Ever since the first day they met, Anna had always been looking after her, caring for her. Climbing off the stool and walking back towards the living room, she gently sat down on the couch, once again leaving Anna confused. Before the redhead could voice her confusion, Elsa spoke up.

"Anna, you should go…" she said, not looking at the redhead. In an instant Anna was up out of her seat and striding over to Elsa's side.

"What? You want me to leave? Why? Elsa I-" Anna was cut off by Elsa holding up a hand.

"Please go back to your home, your own life awaits you. You can't keep focusing on me and my problems. I'm a burden, please Anna. Just go." Elsa said, deliberately avoiding eye contact with the redhead. She knew if she looked into those beautiful irises she would lose her resolve. Elsa suddenly found herself with a face full of Anna. The headstrong redhead had crouched down in front of her, forcing the nervous blonde to look her in the eye.

"I'm going to say this as many times as you need to hear it Elsa…" Anna started, not letting the blonde look away from her for even a second.

"I care about you, deeply. You are not a burden. If I didn't want to be here, I wouldn't be. But I am. I'm here and I'm here for you. And maybe I'm being too forward, but I consider you my best friend now Elsa. I've never met anyone like you before. I've never met anyone as amazing or intelligent or… beautiful, as you. I'm not going anywhere Elsa. You're just going to have to deal with that." Anna finished, smiling at Elsa.

Elsa was speechless. She had no idea Anna thought so highly of her. Of course she considered Anna her best friend too, the redhead was technically her only friend. Suddenly she felt a wet trail make its way down her cheek. Was she crying? Before Elsa could wipe the single tear away, she felt a soft warm hand caress her cheek. Anna lightly ran the pad of her thumb over Elsa's cheek, wiping the tear away. The crippling anxiety that usually came along with people touching Elsa, especially on her face, didn't show up. Elsa was completely at ease with Anna's caress and found actual comfort in it. She leaned into the soft touch even more.

Anna didn't know what she was doing, it was like her body was on auto pilot. Everything she had just said to Elsa was 100% true, Elsa was her best friend. But now, crouching down in front of her, holding her cheek in her hand, and seeing how much Elsa trusted her, made Anna feel like she wanted the stunning blonde in front of her to be more than just her best friend. That thought made Anna's eyes drift down to Elsa's lips. She remembered her earlier thought on if the blonde tasted like peppermint. She saw Elsa's tongue quickly dart out to moisten her lips. Anna was staring and she knew it. She looked back up and saw Elsa staring back at her.

Elsa couldn't tell what the redhead in front of her was thinking, she wasn't exactly keen on flirting and things of that nature, but was it her imagination or was Anna leaning in closer? As the feisty redhead got closer and closer, the blonde could feel her chest start to tighten. Strangely enough, it didn't feel like the other times it tightened, when she was having one of her anxiety attacks, no this felt different, almost… warm? Anna stopped inches away from her face and smiled. Elsa felt the redhead remove her left hand from her cheek, moving it up to push back a lock of the magnificent blonde hair that had fallen in her face. Anna then leaned her head in the rest of the way and Elsa's mind went blank. The blonde waited in anticipation and finally felt petal soft lips land on her cheek, right were the small almost invisible scar from her childhood injury was. Anna then moved back and flashed a brilliant, somewhat nervous, smile.

"You're stuck with me now, you know that right?" Anna joked, but something her voice sounded off.

Elsa let out a shaky breath she didn't know she was holding in. She blushed and smiled back, giggling at Anna's comment.

"Fine by me." She joked back. The intensity of whatever that was, vanished and Anna rose from the ground, dusting the nonexistent dirt from her pants.

"I know I hate them, but how about we have a horror movie marathon?" Anna asked, smile still in place. It looked a little… forced, Elsa noted. Elsa smiled back and nodded her head.

"Sure, sounds great."

"Awesome! So, um, I'm just going to head over to my apartment for two seconds to get out of these uncomfortable work clothes, and I'll bring over some major junk food because, I swear Elsa, if I have to eat one more carrot stick that's not swimming in ranch dressing or cheese, I'm going to flip." Anna told Elsa, scrunching up her face and then laughing, as she collected her jacket and bag. The blonde shook her head at Anna's antics.

"Anna, vegetables can be snacks too, plus their good for you." Elsa responded. Anna snorted and rolled her eyes.

"Vegetables are not snacks, they're the things you feed your dog when your parents aren't looking." Anna joked. Now it was Elsa's turn to roll her eyes.

"Whatever, will you just go so you can hurry back?"

"Ohhh! Is somebody going to miss me?" Anna said in a fake mocking tone as she walked out the door.

"…Yes…" Elsa said under her breath as she heard the door shut. The blonde grabbed one of the chair pillows again, hugging and sighing deeply into it. She felt somewhat disappointed when Anna kissed her cheek instead of her lips. What was she expecting? For Anna to confess her undying love and then kiss and ravage her on the spot? Could she even handle that? Touching hands or even her face was one thing, but could she really handle being that intimate with somebody emotionally? Mentally? Physically? The answer was probably no. Or at least not yet… For now she'd just sit here and wait for Anna's move. But one thing she was definitely sure about, she cared deeply for the redhead, more than a 'best friend' should.

On the other side of the door, Anna was having her own revelations. She had kept it together until she was finally out of Elsa's sight. Now she was freaking out. 'WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ANNA? You almost kissed her! Kissed her, Anna! You know, the thing you do with person you are in a romantic relationship with? You could have ruined all the trust you built up with her because of your stupid actions! Keep your feelings in check Summers!' Anna's mind berated her. But still, the other voice in her head spoke up, 'But she didn't back away. She didn't look disgusted or put off. When you kissed her cheek instead she looked kind of disappointed.' Now that Anna thought about it, the blonde did look a little disappointed when Anna pulled away from the kiss. Did Elsa actually want Anna to kiss her? Dare she get her hopes up? Because if there was one thing she knew for sure, she definitely cared about Elsa more than a 'best friend' should.

Letting out a deep sigh, she walked to the elevator, climbing on and making her way down to her apartment. Little did she know, she was being watched the entire time.

"Well, well…"
