"Who screamed like that?!" Greta turned behind, looking at Mirii and lowering her smartphone.
"It's the scientist!" Mirii's right forefinger pointed at the small entrance at the other side of the river. "We must get there as soon as possible!"
Greta groaned, flattening her mouth. Bars stopped a bit behind Mirii's back, while holding the cage with both his hands.
"… I need some energy juice, Mirii… and I have to finish up this phone call." Her hand brought her smartphone back on her ear. "Excuse me for the drop: stuff happened and I couldn't control it. Were you sayin'?"
Mirii frowned, as her head shook slowly.
"I wish that idiot didn't splat the scientist… but I can't stand here, waiting the others." Her head pointed back at the cave entrance. "I must find a way to pass this river…"
"Yeah, the car is far away from us… we are inside a cave." Greta pushed her tentacle behind with her free hand. "I can tell you where the cave is, though. Do you know the Great Hole, right?"
Mirii folded her arms.
"Even if I wasn't tired, I couldn't possibly jump across the river with my physical skills…" She turned around. "What kind of item I could use, in order to solve this predicament…?"
"Yes, it's all the way over there!" Greta grinned, while nodding and squeezing her eyes. "There is a secret entrance inside the rock near the hole." Her free hand waved around, while smiling widely. "No need to get all scientific on it: once you"
Her mouth opened, expanding her eyes.
"Wait… wait, wait!" She frowned a bit. "What do you mean by 'I need some reinforcements'?! Can't you just pick up your car and go all the way near the hole, waiting for us?"
"Greta, stop wasting your time with that discussion!" Mirii frowned at her friend, while showing her teeth. "End the call, before that monster returns…!"
Greta snorted, as her irises rolled.
"Shollen? I gotta run!" Her head shook. "I'm kind of tied at the moment… I will explain everything later on, ok?"
Mirii turned her head to the right, watching a large wooden crate near the wall.
"… alright, alright." Greta smiled a bit. "See you later." Her hand brought her smartphone down.
"That crate is going to sink, if I manage to bring it on the river…" Mirii sighed, as her head lowered. "… I could build a raft, but I don't have the time to build it! Let alone the energy…"
"So, are you going to save that scientist dude?" Greta's hands went on her hips, stretching her mouth to the right side.
"You don't want to?!" Mirii frowned, staring back at Greta.
"No no, of course I do!" The taller girl opened her arms wide. "But I was thinking… we should divide the work up."
Mirii's eyes squeezed a bit.
"… you want me to rescue the scientist all alone…?"
"What a nice idea you got there, Miss Perfection!" Greta grinned widely.
"That was NOT an idea!" Mirii frowned, as veins popped out from her forehead. "I was just trying to"
"So, let's settle this!" Greta's hands clasped. "Me and Barsy will find a safe room to stay in… we will bring Hunry too." She looked at the boy for a second. "In the meantime, you are going to explore that passage and bring the scientist with you."
"I can't do it all alone!" Mirii bended forward, while frowning. "I'm so fatigued, I couldn't even run at full speed for 5 minutes!"
"Let me out of this cage!" Hun frowned too, as his tentacles grabbed the fence. "I want to help Mirii out!"
The short girl blushed, shrinking her irises to small dots.
"Well, well, farm Squid…" Greta giggled. "… do you have any idea on how we are going to open up that can?"
"Can? What can?" Hun's top-left eye lowered.
…
Heeeelp!
Mirii twisted over the source of the voice, before turning back over Greta.
"Would you think of a way for letting us reach the other side of the river, instead of coming up with more excuses and nonsense?!"
"Actually… I do have an idea…"
Mirii's ears rose: Bars chuckled, yawning afterwards.
"Like… what if you turn into a Squid… I pick you up and throw you across the river?"
…
A dark aura was surrounding Mirii.
"… I'm going to use a newly purchased device on you, Bars… a torture device used for"
"That's a nice idea, actually!"
The girl's eyes enlarged: Greta nodded twice, while smiling.
"If you can throw her far, big boy… that would be the quickest solution-ACK!"
Mirii's hands were grasping her shirt, pulling her in front of her eyes.
"ARE YOU CRAZY?! THROWING ME AS IF I'M AN OBJECT?!"
Greta grinned slightly, as her eyelids lowered to the middle.
"… do you have a better idea than that?"
Mirii growled, gripping the shirt with all her strength. Greta snickered.
"… nnnggh…" Sweat formed on Mirii's forehead. "… I-I… well…"
"Hey, hey… don't waste your time thinking about it." Greta's head shook. "I mean, there is this awful beast that could rush towards us and eat some Squid dinne"
"A-are you… imitating me?!" Smoke came off Mirii's ears, as her right cheek twitched.
"Nah." Greta shrugged. "I'm reminding you the objectives you are after…"
"N-no!" Mirii left the grip, as she jumped backwards, while her face went paler. "I-I couldn't possibly…!"
Her head began scouting the surroundings: crates, broken wooden pieces, written papers, almost-empty clear bottles, sword handles and guns were the only things identified by her sight. Mirii gritted her teeth, as her hands grabbed her tentacles.
"… the clock is ticking…" Greta folded her arms, while stretching her neck and smiling widely.
"Nnnnnnnggghhh!" Mirii began walking in place, as her eyes squeezed a lot. "I-I'm not an object! I-I'm not"
A growl came from behind the walls. Greta jumped, stretching her arms down and gasping.
"CURSES!" Mirii's eyebrows went up. "CCCUUUURRSSSEEEESSS!"
"I'm outta here!" Greta rushed forward.
"Wait for me, girl!" Bars began taking fast steps, while lifting the cage upwards.
The boy passed the girl, as he was panting-
"Bars! Stop immediately!" She frowned, while clenching her fists.
He stopped instantly, turning behind and staring at Mirii: she swallowed silently.
"… pick me up…" She turned into a Squid. "… BE QUICK, YOU IDIOT!"
"I am, I am!" His eyes grew just slightly, as he put down the cage and ran back at full speed.
Her tentacles waved on the floor, as her irises went down.
"… first I was carried around like a doll, by that failure of a pirate… and now this overgrown fool is going to throw me like a rock…!"
His hands went over the Squid, picking her up and carrying her in front of his chest. His head turned over the river. His right hand grasped the Squid, as he began taking some steps-
"OW!" Her eyes almost popped out, chocking a bit. "EASE THE GRIP, YOU IMBECILE!"
"S-sorry for that, girl!" Sweat jumped out from his head, as he increased his pace.
His arm swung, as Mirii flew off his hand and proceeded above the river. The top of her head was pointing at the sandy ground, slamming against it. Bars held his hand in front of his smiling mouth. The girl resumed her humanoid form, as she immediately looked back at Bars: his hand went behind his back, as her eyes expanded.
"YOU FOUND THAT FUNNY?!" Her forefinger pointed at him. "I WILL HAVE THE LAST LAUGH, WHEN I WILL SUBJECT YOU TO ONE OF MY EXPERIMENTS!"
"S-sorry for that, girl!" He rushed to the left, before turning behind and rushing towards the cage. "I'm sorry!"
Mirii followed the boy, as his feet slowed down just before he would reach the cage: once near, his hands lifted it up and resumed his speedy run. The girl closes her eyes.
"Calm down, Mirii! Calm down! Calm… down…" She inhales the air from her nose, before reopening her eyes and turning over the small entrance. "… uff… uff… my head…"
Her hand went on her forehead, as she began walking over the door-shaped hole.
"My head is… is really hurting…!" She stumbled a bit. "Ouch, ouch…! I-I need to take a break…! A quick rest, once I'm inside that entrance…"
She suddenly tilted forward, once her foot's tip touched a rock: her posture lifted back up in a second.
"… don't give up, Mirii… I-I'm almost at the entrance…" Her eyelids lowered to the middle.
The girl walked in front of the entrance, passing through it. Rocky walls were surrounding Mirii, as lit lanterns were hanging on one of the two sides.
"… the floor looks so soft…" She sighed loudly, for at least 2 seconds. "… I wouldn't mind sitting down on it…"
Her feet pressed the ground, as she lowered and sat down: her back leaned against the wall.
"Hhhmmmmm…" Her eyes closed. "It wouldn't be a bad idea, if I focus on restoring all my lost energy back… … so… I can save the scientist… more efficiently… …"
Her head rubbed on the wall for a bit, before she began breathing calmly.
