The door opened, as Tonna walked past it: her irises rolled, almost letting her arms falling down.
"Groan…" She pushed the door back, now moving towards her desk. "How I was capable of walking all the way here, is something I would never figure out…"
Her head turned in the direction of a small photo, sealed behind a cupboard's glass and framed in wood: the photo was depicting Tonna, hugging a taller Inkling girl and smiling. The woman smiled too, before her feet would move again.
"… I should call mom, later on." Her eyes closed. "She truly deserves my gratitude…!"
Tonna sits on her tall office chair, reopening her eyes and sighing deeply. Her hands landed on the desk, massaging it delicately.
"Last time, I completely forgot to do so, because of all that pile of paper work to finish up…" Her head shook. "… today, I just have two briefing sessions and a trip over… over where, exactly?" Her eyes squeezed. "Gaaah, my head is already heating up!"
Her fingers went in between her eyebrows, as she breathed deeply.
"That aspirin didn't work as effectively as I hoped… and my legs are even worse than my mind!" Her mouth downturned, as her legs went on a small chair below her desk. "Being a chief is tougher than I"
Knock, knock!
Her mouth opened, immediately staring at the closed door.
"… groan…" She stands up, stumbling in the process and walking past her desk. "Once I have some free time, I'm really going to order that Remote Door Opener device…"
Her hand went on the door handle, opening it widely. The woman's eyes went already large, as they were staring at an Inkling woman, who was wearing round glasses and a business suit.
"Good morning, Miss Pinna." The woman's hands were down, holding a small bag. "I apologize for the small delay of 3 minutes…" She bowed.
"… oh no… th-the next part of the interrogation…!" Tonna's face went paler. "I completely forgot about her visit!"
She swallowed silently, grinning a bit.
"Good morning, Miss Lala!" Tonna moved aside, as she grabbed her own hands. "Please, do take a seat!" She nodded twice.
Lala walked inside the room, looking at the small armchair sitting in front of the desk. Tonna closed the door, walking rapidly past the woman and over her own chair.
"I'm in a bit of a hurry, this time." Lala put her bag on the desk, as her hands were sinking inside it. "As usual, I'm giving you the interrogation paper to compile."
Her left hand pulled out a printed-paper, which moved in front of Tonna: she took the paper, looking at each word carefully.
"… oh thank turfness!" She smiled, lowering the paper on the desk and picking up a pen from a geometrical-patterned penholder. "I don't have to hide my butt as much as the previous times!"
The woman brought her pen over a line, next to the word "NAME".
"Even though I gave you such paper…" Lala lifted her posture, putting her hands on her legs and closing her eyes. "… this is not an interrogation session."
Tonna stopped completely, as her irises shrunk.
"I came in here to announce the results." Lala's glasses shined. "Results I was anxiously waiting for days, if I have to be completely honest."
Jerkily, Tonna's head rose back over the woman…
"… wh-what results…?" She shivered.
Lala smiled, as the shine went away from her glasses.
"Miss Pinna… the WIT examined all your previous interrogation sessions." Her hands clasped, laying them on the desk and smiling a bit more. "And reached the following conclusion."
Tonna shivered even more!
"… are you nervous, Miss Pinna?" Lala adjusted her glasses, before her free hand clasped back on the other one.
"F-for what?!" Tonna grinned widely, as sweat formed on her forehead. "I-I'm curious to know the results…!" She nodded once. "Wh-what did they said…?"
"Your results were all positive." Lala smiled even more. "Which means, the WIT doesn't suspect you anymore."
…
Tonna's eyes and irises grew widely. Her mouth kept opening and opening…
"Because of that, the WIT is now using your testimony as evidence for our main goals." Lala nodded, as her back rested on her chair. "In fact, that's why I'm in a bit of a hurry: I have another interrogation session to attend, in about a half-a-hour… speaking of that, I really must get going before it's too late." She stands up. "… could you please compile the paper, Miss Pinna?"
"Ah! S-sure!" Immediately, the woman began writing rapidly on the paper, as sweat jumped out of her head. "I-I will be done in less than a second!"
Her hand threw the pen on the side, as she grabbed the paper and showed it to the woman.
"Here!" Tonna panted. "All done!"
Lala chuckled, as she picked up the paper and bended it in three parts, before putting it back inside her bag.
"Thank you for the cooperation." She bowed.
Tonna rose her thumb, smiling widely.
"Yes… YES! THE NIGHTMARE IS FINALLY OVER!" Her eyes closed. "I can finally proceed"
"Miss Pinna…"
The woman blinked her eyes, watching Lala putting her hands back inside her bag, while her head was pointed at its contents.
"… I know that, after this encounter, it's going to be highly improbable that we will meet again." Raising her head back, she showed another piece of paper held by her hands. "Which is why I would like to give you this, before I go…"
"… what is that?" Tonna grabbed the paper, as she fully opened the paper.
Her irises began scanning through the paper's words.
"There is no rush: that paper is all yours." Lala nodded, while smiling. "You truly deserve it…"
"Huh?" Tonna looked back at Lala. "Deserve…?"
"Miss Pinna… whenever I learn that the Squid I have in front of me, is really honest and kind… I cannot turn away from them, if they are asking for help." Lala grabbed her bag, wrapping it on her left shoulder. "I distinctly remember the very first time, when you called for requesting a suspect list."
"Yes… yes I did." Tonna nodded.
"You did that, so you would learn more about your sister… am I correct?" Lala took a step backwards.
"Ehm… well…" Sweat returned over Tonna's forehead.
Lala grabbed her smartphone with her right hand, as the screen lit as soon as it went in front of her face.
"I must go, Miss Pinna!" She turned behind, running a bit. "I apologize for the rush… but I can't even waste a second!" She reached the door, opening it. "Goodbye, Miss Pinna!"
She pulled the door with her, closing it.
"… phew! Saved by the bell!" Tonna smiled, letting her back fall on her chair's backrest. "One slip, at this point, would mean to ruin my recently-earned freedom!"
Her eyes fell back on the paper she was still holding.
"You know… I should hide this paper and read it later." Her head began turning around. "I have to use my spare time to prepare myself for those briefings, after all…"
She looked back at the glass on the cupboard.
"Well, well… that photo frame is big enough to cover the whole paper fully!" She stands up, walking towards the cupboard.
Her free hand opened it, as her right one put the paper right below the photo frame's diagonal leg.
"Once I will come back in here… I will take the paper in my room and start reading it, without even thinking about any job!" She smiled widely. "… and I really want to take my time, in order to read this paper completely."
The woman closed back the cupboard, as she took some steps backwards and kept staring at the photo frame, while putting her hands behind her back.
"It's something written by Ursula, after all…"
Her mind was seeing the first words written on the paper.
